I visited the Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine. Right in front of the torii gate, there is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop. It has a very old-fashioned feel, and when I stepped inside, there was a retail space and an eat-in area. I decided to take a short break. It seems the shop has been around for over 250 years. Amazing. Looking at the menu, there was a set with 2 Haneji mochi and a drink, but there was also a set with 1 Haneji mochi and a different type of Japanese confectionery, so I opted for the latter to enjoy various flavors. The Japanese confectionery set includes 1 Haneji mochi and 1 other confectionery, and you can choose from 4 types of confectionery to pair with the Haneji mochi: chestnut matcha yokan, chestnut mochi, chestnut minazuki, and maple leaf (Kamiyoshi brand). I chose the set with the maple leaf confectionery. I decided based on the appearance in the photos without knowing exactly what it was, but the maple leaf turned out to be a steamed bun. I love mochi, so I slightly regretted not choosing the set with the chestnut mochi later. The set also includes a drink, with sencha costing 650 yen, and coffee or matcha costing 800 yen. Since I like coffee, I had it with my set. The Haneji mochi is a soft and small-sized double-layered mochi that you can eat many of. Double-layered mochi is a taste I've been familiar with and loved since childhood. The interior of the shop is small, and you can see the stone garden and the torii gate of the Hachimangu Shrine, creating a calm atmosphere. Ah, I'm glad to be Japanese. It was a moment to cherish. Japanese Confectionery Set 800 yen.

There was a shop right near Ishiyama-Hachimangu Shrine Station on the Keihan Line. It was my first time visiting, and I tried the famous Hashiri Mochi Set and Uji Azuki (matcha from Hachiman Fukusuien). The Hashiri Mochi was made with freshly pounded mochi every morning, and it had a soft texture with a refreshing and elegant sweetness that paired perfectly with the smooth red bean paste. It was extremely delicious. I definitely want to visit again!

Before I knew it, I hadn't had shaved ice all year. It was over 35 degrees in September, a really hot day. Originally planning to go to a different shop, I ended up making a U-turn on my bicycle thinking, "No, let's have some shaved ice!" I headed to a long-established traditional Japanese sweets shop in my town, Hachiman City, which appears in the paintings of Katsushika Hokusai. They had reasonably priced shaved ice like black honey syrup for 600 yen, and Uji shigure for 700 yen. I intended to go for the cheaper option, but as a Hachiman local, I couldn't resist when I saw the word "pear" and ended up ordering the "Pear Ice with Shiratama" for 1460 yen. Pears are a specialty of Hachiman, and during the pear picking season, my classmates would skip school to help out at home and guide tours. Here it comes! ✨ Wow, it's white and beautiful! ✨ Let's eat! Simply grated pears with a crunchy texture syrup. The pears surrounding it are like natural pear sherbet! It's in a semi-icy state, so delicious that I could eat this endlessly. The pear itself is like shaved ice. The syrup only consists of pears, lemon, and sugar. I had tried the pear ice back when they first started serving it, but now it's much tastier, probably due to a better balance. Maybe it's because of the quality of the pears. The types of pears used in the pear ice change depending on the season. When I asked the staff, they said it's a blend of "Toyosui" and "Akizuki." Akizuki is a pear that the farmer has just started growing! They said it's really delicious! Shaved ice season is almost over, and they're not sure if they'll have Akizuki pears next year. Wow! ✨ I'm glad I made that U-turn! The shiratama is still wonderfully chewy and delicious. I recommend dipping it in the melted syrup. The shiratama is only 60 yen more, so it's definitely worth adding. There's no sign, but you can help yourself to warm hojicha tea, so don't forget (I was freezing until I noticed). Shaved ice is available until late September to early October. They'll probably announce on Instagram when it's finished, so if you're thinking of going, check before you do. The pear ice might run out sooner. Thanks to the heat, I was able to enjoy some delicious shaved ice! ✨

The gentle taste of pear is enhanced by the lemon. A specialty of Ishiyama Hachimangu Shrine called "Hashiri Mochi". The name of the shop comes from the use of spring water "Hashirii" when it was founded in Otsu. The shape of the mochi is like a rough sword blade. It is believed to bring good luck and success as it is inspired by the swordsmith Sukezane Sanjo who forged famous swords using the spring water. At Hachimangu Shrine, doves are considered messengers of the gods, so there are also monaka with a dove mark.

The restaurant has a charming atmosphere. I came here with high expectations because it has good reviews, but after seeing everyone praising the shaved ice, I decided to try it! The result was that the shaved ice was delicious. I'm usually not a big fan of shaved ice, but I found this one to be tasty (although it was too much for one person to finish).

I came to a Japanese sweets shop in front of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in Yawata and bought the famous Hashirii Mochi right away. The softness of the mochi is exceptional, as it can only be kept until the next day. The red bean paste was also carefully strained. It's a dish that I recommend enjoying with hot tea.

I'm glad I was able to visit before the end of shaved ice season. I could taste the deliciousness of the pear, even the frozen pear was tasty. I was in a slightly tipsy mood, so it tasted even better. I wanted to try the Sagai mochi as well, but I was too full to do so. I would like to visit during the strawberry season as well.

"Soui Mochi Shoten" is a long-established Japanese confectionery and mochi shop founded in Otsu during the mid-Edo period. In the summer of Reiwa 5, I visited with a friend. While the shop's specialty is "Soui Mochi," the hot weather made us crave shaved ice. My friend added an ice topping of "Hojicha Azuki" (800 yen + 100 yen), while I ordered the "Nashi Koori" (1,400 yen) that I had seen on the shop's Instagram beforehand. Within 5 minutes, the Hojicha Azuki arrived at our table followed by the Nashi Koori. The Nashi Koori is a limited-time product available from August, made with pears, a specialty of Hachiman City. The ice is generously topped with pear-flavored syrup, surrounded by frozen, chilled pears. The syrup had a simple taste with a concentrated pear flavor that complemented the ice well. The frozen pears added a nice texture and flavor contrast to the shaved ice. Surprisingly, pears and ice make a great combination! We arrived at the shop just before 2 p.m. There were two groups of customers already present. We initially waited on the bench outside the shop, and once one group was seated, we waited inside. The shaded bench outside with a breeze might have enhanced the deliciousness amidst the heat. While waiting inside, we browsed the souvenirs for sale, so we didn't feel like we were kept waiting. The interior of the shop had a traditional Japanese design, with a beautiful garden on the side, creating a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. It was a delightful summer experience. Thank you for the meal!"

Visited in August 2023 and stopped by this restaurant after praying at the Ise Kamo-wakeikazuchi Shrine in the morning. They serve traditional rice cakes called "Sagui Mochi" which my family used to enjoy toasting in a toaster when they became hard (which was also delicious). There is a designated parking space nearby, but it's a bit tight. Since it was a very hot day, I considered trying their shaved ice, but I can't eat it due to various sensitivities, so I opted for the Matcha set with Sagui Mochi instead. The set included 2 rice cakes and Matcha tea for 700 yen, just the right amount for a satisfying treat. The shaved ice ordered by the customer next to me was huge! Thank you for the meal.

The building has a very traditional feel to it. It's made of glass, so you can enjoy your meal while looking at the outside view. The atmosphere is nice. I ordered the "Hasui Mochi Shigure" and "Uji Milk Azuki" shaved ice. This is what shaved ice should be. Delicious. The Hasui mochi is soft and tasty. The sweetness of the red bean paste is just right. I'm full now. I saw some people eating udon, so I'd like to try that next time.

Located near Ishizumi Hachimangu Shrine Station, this traditional Japanese sweets shop offers a refreshing treat on hot days with their specialty "Hojicha shaved ice" and famous "Hashirii mochi." The shaved ice is generously portioned yet goes down smoothly. The Hashirii mochi is filled with plenty of sweet red bean paste, but it's light and easy to eat - I finished both in no time. Even while enjoying my treats, I noticed customers coming in for takeout orders of Hashirii mochi. The shop has a nostalgic atmosphere typical of a long-established Japanese sweets shop, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing break.

Established in 1764, the long-established Japanese confectionery shop "Hashiri Mochi Honpo" is located near the Ishikiri Shrine in Kyoto, next to the Keihan Line station. Their specialty, Hashiri Mochi, has been beloved by visitors to the Ishikiri Shrine for a long time. The shop interior is occasionally renovated, with a fresh and comfortable atmosphere. I visited on a weekday afternoon around 3 pm and saw customers of all ages enjoying their time there, especially on a hot day with many people ordering shaved ice. I ordered the famous Hashiri Mochi set with green tea, which was soft and delicious with a subtly sweet red bean paste. The green tea from the well-known "Ocha no Fukusuien" in Hachiman City had a comforting taste that paired decently with the Hashiri Mochi. Enjoying these traditional sweets in the nostalgic atmosphere of the long-established confectionery shop was a delightful experience. If you are visiting the Ishikiri Shrine, why not stop by "Hashiri Mochi Honpo" and try their treats? [Foodlog rating 3.62 (at the time of visit)]

I saw a post on Instagram about the ultimate strawberries, so I visited the restaurant. Last year, they sold out right in front of me and I couldn't try them (T_T) This year, I planned ahead for revenge. The strawberries were not too sweet, with plenty of flesh, and delicious with 100% strawberry syrup. In August, they will start serving pear shaved ice, so I have to go again! (*^^*)

"Sagai Mochi Shigure (Matcha & White Syrup + 2 Sagai Mochi) for 900 yen. Instead of Shiratama, our specialty Sagai Mochi comes with 2 pieces. The syrup is a combination of matcha and shigure (white syrup). From the traditional menu of Sagai Mochi. Located in front of the Keihan Electric Railway Iwashimizu Hachimangu Station, this long-established Japanese sweets and dessert shop. Sagai Mochi Shigure uses matcha from "Hamacha" grown on the riverbed of Kizugawa at Hamadai in Yawata City, Fukusuien. I was advised to eat the cold Sagai Mochi first as it hardens when cold. The mochi wrapped in sweet bean paste was soft and sweet in the mouth. Eating the ice next... although it should be bitter matcha, it became a mellow taste. I could clearly taste the white syrup when it was almost gone, and enjoyed the shaved ice with syrup until the end. The cold Sagai Mochi did harden a bit, but it was interesting to taste the difference in texture. There is a parking lot across the street from the shop."

Visited Soui Udon on Friday around 11:45 am. No other customers were there. Enjoyed the firm kombu dashi and tororo kombu mixed with mochi. The udon surprisingly had a good chewiness and was delicious. You can also buy this dashi as a souvenir. Since it's also a Japanese sweets shop, I want to try their red rice next time.

A traditional Japanese confectionery shop located in front of the first torii gate of the Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, one of Japan's three great Hachiman Shrines. I had it as a breakfast substitute. <2 rice cakes + green tea/500 yen> The skin is soft and smooth. It's delicious. Can I really be this relaxed since morning? I've visited Hachiman City many times, but I didn't realize there was such a cool spot. There seems to be a cable car, but next time I definitely want to walk up. Excerpt from the website: "The history of Hashirii Mochi dates back to the first year of Meiwa (1764) in Otsu during the mid-Edo period, when the founder Ichiroemon Masakatsu used the spring water "Hashiri" to make sweet bean paste rice cakes. Hashirii Mochi, a famous product of Otsu depicted in Hiroshige Ando's "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido," was passed down to the foot of the famous spring water of Ishiyamadera by the fourth son, Kashiro, of the sixth generation Ichiroemon in 1910 (Meiji 43). The original Otsu branch closed shortly after it was inherited by Yawata. At the same time, our family became the only direct descendant of Hashirii Mochi." <Note> As of today, 3.62 =======

I was forced to take paid leave from work, so I decided to go on a trip! On the first day, I visited the Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in Kyoto. After enjoying sightseeing at the main hall and observation deck, I took a break and visited the Iwashimochi shop here. I ordered the "Iwashimochi Set" with matcha as the drink. The Iwashimochi had a gentle sweetness that helped soothe the tiredness from walking. It was very delicious with sweet bean paste inside. Since it was a small size, I feel like I could eat more. It goes well with the bitterness of matcha. I would like to visit again when I come to Kyoto to try other traditional Japanese sweets and udon. Thank you for the meal!

I had a set of Soi Mochi, Warabi Mochi, and green tea. The Warabi Mochi was deliciously dense, while the Soi Mochi was light. I leisurely enjoyed them. They seem to have a wide variety of shaved ice, so I'd like to come back to try that next time. I bought Soi Mochi and Mizuki as souvenirs on my way home.

I arrived here after wandering around exercising. It was lunchtime, so I had freshly made udon with mochi and the famous Hashiri Mochi, and I really relaxed. It's a tourist spot, but it's a bit away from the crowds, so it's just right. It's a place full of memories from the past ^_^
