I made a reservation for 11:45 on a regular Friday (opening time 11:45). When I arrived, there was already one person sitting at the counter and one group of two people. It's a good idea to make a reservation in advance for this restaurant. When I made the reservation over the phone, I had already ordered the "Assorted Sushi for 2800 yen". As soon as I sat down, tea and chawanmushi (savory egg custard) were served! Then a hot bowl of clear soup arrived shortly after. Both were piping hot and delicious. The sushi was served one or two pieces at a time, and they kept coming out quickly! The moment the sushi was placed in front of me, it was at its maximum deliciousness, so I devoured it in no time. I finished 11 pieces in less than 20 minutes, the fastest I've ever eaten sushi in my life. I wish I could have savored it a bit more slowly. The medium fatty tuna and seared blowfish milt were so melt-in-your-mouth. The crunchy whelk was exquisite! Of course, all the other toppings were delicious too. I want to come back next time for the seafood bowl lunch or dinner and enjoy it slowly. Note that payment for lunch is "cash only, please prepare exact change."

We used it for a social gathering. We chose a table with a sunken kotatsu. It's not a completely private room, there is a light partition between the neighboring seats. The voices from the next table can be slightly distracting. It seems better suited for casual gatherings rather than formal entertaining. Today we opted for a course with all-you-can-drink option. The all-you-can-drink is for 90 minutes. We started with a toast with bottled beer! Snacks kept coming one after another. There was an incredible amount of sashimi and eel! By the time the sushi arrived, we were already stuffed, haha. The steamed dish in a pot was delicious. Next time, I want to leisurely enjoy sushi at the counter. Thank you for the meal!

Once again, I visited with high expectations after a long time. It was rare to see fewer customers this day, and the chef was calm. The dishes were carefully prepared, from sashimi to steamed dish, even though it's a bit early in the season. The highlight of the day was the superb red sea urchin sushi. They served plenty of sushi, and I was thoroughly satisfied!

Sushi lunch for 2800 yen, seafood bowl lunch for 2300 yen. Ranked 9th in the Kitakyushu sushi division, with a rating of 3.64 stars (as of the third week of June 2023). Made a reservation and was the first to arrive. Sat at the counter seat where I could watch the skilled chef with short hair making sushi efficiently right in front of me. The sushi was fresh and the rice was moist and dense. The lunch came with a delicious miso soup and chawanmushi, both in generous portions. The seafood bowl ordered by my companion was as delicious as it looked. The cost performance was outstanding. More customers arrived while I was eating, and it seemed like everyone had made a reservation.

The taste aside, the customer service was terrible. The female staff on the floor were very nice, but the male staff at the counter were rude. It was a weekday around 12:30 pm with only 4 of us and two other groups of 2 in the restaurant. While I understand the need to start preparing for the evening, the constant loud sound of chopping and scolding of staff from the kitchen made it hard to have a conversation. The sushi was good, but the lack of friendliness was noticeable. The price of 2000 yen for this experience may seem cheap, but the poor customer service was disappointing. Before the pandemic, this restaurant was always fully booked even on weekdays, but now I understand why it's not as popular.

I had a sushi lunch on top of rice for lunch. The shirako (cod milt) left a strong impression on me. The other sushi was also very delicious. The miso soup was filled with ingredients and was excellent. I was able to make a reservation easily. I had a great conversation with regular customers about seasonal ingredients, and it was very informative.

We made a reservation in advance and visited with my wife. The atmosphere was warm and the staff's service was good. The place is not intimidating, and I would like to bring my children next time. On the day, both of us ordered the chef's choice sushi. We were satisfied with the chawanmushi, 11 pieces of sushi, and miso soup in terms of quality and quantity. Next time, we definitely want to visit during the evening. Please note that they only accept cash for lunch. We enjoyed our meal today. Namaste.

Visited for lunch with my spouse. Sat at the counter and started with a beer toast. The chef kept making sushi quickly. Started with a steamed egg custard with fish, which was delicious. The sushi kept coming, and the quality of the fish was great. The miso soup had a lot of ingredients and was a perfect side dish for the alcohol. Definitely coming back again! Next time, we'll try dinner.

This sushi restaurant is so good that I find myself wanting to visit regularly. You can enjoy high-quality sushi at a reasonable price here. Located on the 4th floor of a building, it may be a bit confusing to find at first. However, once you take the elevator up to the 4th floor, you will see a purple curtain at the back, indicating the entrance to the restaurant. It has a welcoming atmosphere, making it easy for solo female diners to enjoy a meal. The sushi is made by the chef at a good pace, so you can finish your meal in about 30 minutes. The lunch set with assorted sushi costs ¥2800, which is a bit more expensive than before, but still offers great value for money. The sushi pieces are large and delicious, and the chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) and arajiru (fish head soup) are also very tasty. I always leave the restaurant feeling satisfied after enjoying high-quality sushi. I have visited for lunch multiple times, but I hope to try their dinner course someday.

This is my first time in Kokura, Kitakyushu. I arrived from Kitakyushu Airport and took a bus to Kokura for lunch. There are three lunch options available here: - Premium sushi lunch for ¥2800 - Regular sushi lunch for ¥2000 - Seafood bowl lunch for ¥2300 Although I was tempted by the seafood bowl, I decided to go with the premium sushi lunch as a celebration for my first time in Kokura. The meal started with a steamed egg custard and included 11 pieces of sushi, finishing with a fish head soup. The sushi was fresh and the slightly sweet vinegared rice was deliciously soft. Considering the quality, the premium sushi lunch for ¥2800 was definitely worth it. Even someone like me who usually only eats ramen can appreciate it.

I used this restaurant for the first time. Each dish was delicious and reasonably priced. I had made a reservation in advance, but the restaurant was full when we arrived. On this day, my partner and I each had a drink or two, and the total bill was 18,700 yen. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

The tatami seating area was full! The counter was about half full and it seemed quieter than usual.... Truly a popular restaurant! Every dish was delicious, especially the homemade sweet potato tempura was exquisite! Choosing meat over oysters was the right decision! The sushi was also delicious, and I was completely satisfied with the course meal. From entering the restaurant to leaving, it took about 80 minutes.

This is it! Even if the price goes up to 2800 yen, being able to eat sushi of this level for that price is amazing!! I went to a nearby restaurant for lunch and the quality and price here are truly wonderful!! Reservation by phone is required, but it's definitely worth going to this place! The seafood bowl also looks really good, so I want to try it somewhere!

Today, I had a rare solo overnight business trip. That means I can go wherever I want for dinner (laughs). So, even though I asked the hotel front desk for recommendations, I decided to do my own research and ended up at Manryo. It seemed like ordering the course was the norm, so I decided to go with that. I started with a refreshing glass of draft beer. Ahhh, today's beer is delicious as always! Here's what I had: - Appetizer (Mineoka Tofu with Sesame): The tofu had a sticky texture that melted smoothly in the mouth, with a nice sesame flavor. - Sashimi Platter: A selection of 5 types of fresh sashimi, all very tasty. The fish in Kitakyushu is really good! - Grilled Miyazaki Saito Beef Tataki: The balance of the lean meat's umami and the sweetness of the fat was amazing! - Eel Vinegar: Warm eel served with cold grated radish. A new and delicious combination! - Sushi: A variety of nigiri sushi, each piece was expertly made and delicious. - Chawanmushi: A nice warm dish in between sushi courses. - More Sushi: The second half of the nigiri sushi course, all very tasty. - Clam Soup: A warm and comforting end to the meal. After the satisfying meal, I walked back to my hotel, feeling too full to have another drink. I couldn't even stop for a nightcap as my stomach was so full. Thank you to the chef for the delicious meal! I hope to visit again next time I'm in Kitakyushu.

On May 6, 2022, a visit to a sushi course with a full volume that cannot be missed in Kokura! ~ Manryo ~ Konnokamachi 8-5 Kokura Building 4F, Kokura Kita-ku, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. On the first night of my trip to Kokura, I went to the sushi restaurant Manryo for the "Chef's Choice Course" priced at 8,800 yen. After researching online, I found out that it was a sushi course with a generous serving, so I made a reservation in advance! The course included: - Appetizer (simmered fish): A simmered dish of burdock and white fish cooked in a sweet and savory sauce. The aroma of burdock is delightful! - Assorted sashimi: A platter with 7 varieties including medium fatty tuna, octopus, squid, sea urchin, whale bacon, and more! At this point, I switched to sake! - Grilled fish (yellowtail): A whole yellowtail fish grilled to perfection! The fatty texture was delicious! - Deep-fried dish (goby fish): Crispy fried goby fish with a fluffy texture. By this point, my stomach was quite full! - Chawanmushi (savory egg custard): A small break with chawanmushi before the intense battle ahead! - Sushi (10 pieces): A selection of 10 pieces including medium fatty tuna, sea bream, sea urchin, greater amberjack, horse mackerel, steamed shrimp, scallop, salmon roe, simmered conger eel, and egg. The sushi was generously sized compared to other restaurants, but personally, I prefer the toppings to be a bit thinner. - Clam soup: Finally, I enjoyed a warm clam soup to settle my stomach. It was delicious! However, the portion was so generous that my stomach was completely full! I had to walk around Kokura city to digest before heading to the next spot for drinks (laughs). The building is a bit hard to find. When you arrive, you are greeted by a friendly master and his wife. I felt at ease in the tatami room as I was not too close to other customers. As for the food, everything from start to finish was delicious and the portions were so generous that I couldn't finish it all! The dishes were so delicious that my eyes widened with each new dish... I had leftovers because of the large portions. I definitely want to go back to this restaurant! Next time, I'll make sure to go on an empty stomach (lol). Highly recommended!

I went on a trip to Kyushu and visited a restaurant. The restaurant was a bit lonely-looking and located within walking distance from the Monorail Takanokai Station. I had made a reservation in advance and arrived before noon. The head chef seemed a bit intimidating, but he was actually quite friendly. I had pre-ordered the 2,300 yen sushi lunch set. First, they served tea and chawanmushi. The white fish sushi was sea bream, with a nice firm texture and delicious taste. The tuna sushi was medium fatty tuna. Next was the cherry salmon, slightly seared with a burner, which was really tasty. Then came the red miso soup with plenty of fish scraps. After the shrimp and squid sushi, I had a sushi roll with conger eel and egg to finish. Everything was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

They seem to be raising prices soon, but I was a first-time visitor so... I think the lunch set for 2300 yen before the price increase is very cost-effective! I had reserved the Upper Nigiri Sushi Lunch. The restaurant emphasizes reservations, so it's recommended to book in advance. The Upper Nigiri Sushi Lunch included 12 pieces of sushi: Tai, Ishidai, Hiramasa, Tuna, Mackerel, Sawara, Freshwater Eel, Oyster, Sea Urchin, Akagai, Anago, Toro Tekka, and Tamago. The sushi here is of high quality, but the portions are huge! You will definitely be full to the brim! Despite the 7000 yen course, they generously serve dishes like simmered dishes with blackthroat seaperch and matsutake mushroom steamed in a pot. Located in the fiercely competitive sushi restaurant area of Kokura, I recently visited Manryou. If you plan to visit this place, be prepared to battle with the owner, that's my advice! In my case, I'm not sure if I won or lost the battle, but I managed to finish everything they served! I really pushed myself!! As you reach your forties, the self-control you've cultivated usually prevents you from eating until you're full (in my case), but I haven't felt this full in years, to the point where I thought I wouldn't be able to move! Normally, I follow a low-carb diet, but I managed to eat that much sushi, it's a miracle! I probably caused the most dangerous spike in blood sugar levels in the past few years! I made a reservation for the 7000 yen course and visited the restaurant. The sashimi was delicious as expected, but the generous portions were also a pleasant surprise. The simmered dish had a whole blackthroat seaperch!! So luxurious. The sweet, fatty flesh of the blackthroat seaperch was complemented by a subtly sweet seasoning. Elegant and delicious. The grilled dish was flounder. It had a similar flavor to Saikyo-yaki, but the thickness of the flounder was incredible. Flounder isn't normally such a thick fish, right? It was fluffy and, of course, sweet and fatty. It was delicious. And then, the matsutake mushroom steamed in a pot was served! It contained shrimp and white fish, and their umami had melted out beautifully. It was the ultimate luxury. And then, the sushi. They kept coming one after another, and I had a lot to eat, but I'll write about the ones that left a lasting impression. ・Red Sea Urchin Red sea urchin. Apparently not commonly eaten in the Kanto region. The sweetness and umami were amazing. Rich but refreshing umami. Of course, there was no trace of the unpleasant taste of alum, just the taste of the highest quality. ・Oysters from Harima Rich and yet refreshing taste. The Harima area is known for its delicious salt, but the oysters tasted like they were raised in delicious seawater. ・Boiled Shrimp Boiled shrimp. I was initially surprised to see boiled shrimp at a high-end restaurant! But when I tasted it, it was shocking. The thickness, sweetness, and elasticity were incredible. It was the most delicious boiled shrimp I've ever had. ・Conger Eel It was big and fluffy. The aroma of the charcoal grilling was amazing. You could even smell the fragrance from the fins, elegant and satisfying. It's a guaranteed way to feel happy. ・Negitoro Hand Roll Not the usual toro used for hand rolls. It was a high-quality toro that was long and thick, almost like a block, giving it a strong toro flavor. Can you believe they serve such a luxurious hand roll?! It's a punchy hand roll that makes you wonder if it's okay to eat something so extravagant?! Oh man, it was truly an amazing battle! It must have been a battle for the owner as well, but he was a bit tough on his employees, which made me a little nervous. If he could be a bit kinder to his employees, I could relax and enjoy my meal more.
