This will be my last review of the year. Thank you all for your support throughout the year. I really appreciate all the reviewers who have helped me. I look forward to your continued support next year. When it comes to Chinese food, I always come here, but I realized that I have never listed it as my best restaurant!! So, I decided to post about it after a long time. One of the specialties here is the lunch dim sum buffet! It's an order-style buffet with a wide variety of dim sum dishes being brought to your table on a trolley, and you can eat as much as you like. It's a great deal and delicious. I highly recommend it to everyone. A university classmate who lives in Nagoya is a fan of this dim sum buffet, and whenever he visits Kyoto, he requests to go here. This time, we had a mini reunion with a classmate who lives in Shiga, and the three of us enjoyed a satisfying meal. Thank you for the feast. I will definitely come back next year. Have a great New Year, everyone!

This is a Chinese restaurant located in the COCON Karasuma, which has won numerous awards. This time, we tried Course No. 40 for dinner. The course included five appetizers, mini steak with Japanese beef miso, homemade XO sauce sautéed spiny lobster, Shanghai crab miso sautéed with blue shark fin, braised dried abalone, Hong Kong-style seafood dish, special flying fish roe fried rice with soup, crystal steamed custard bun, premium swallow's nest and almond dessert soup as a souvenir. The roast pork appetizer had a crispy skin that was enjoyable in one bite. The spiny lobster was large and had a firm texture. They even helped remove the shell for easy eating. The blue shark fin was rich due to being mixed with Shanghai crab. It was recommended to eat it as is first, then with just the soup, and finally dipping it in the soup before eating. The dried abalone, considered a luxury ingredient, was served in a large size as a complimentary dish. The aroma and texture were exceptional. The seafood dish featured freshly caught grouper dipped in a flavorful sauce. The flying fish roe fried rice used only egg whites and was served with a soup made with Jinhua ham, similar to a tea rice porridge. The fried rice was light, making it a perfect match with the soup. We also ordered the Peking duck, which had a thick and satisfying skin. The souvenir was an egg tart. Although the cover charge was relatively high, we were able to enjoy Chinese cuisine in a private room at a leisurely pace. The chefs were friendly and it was a pleasant experience to chat with them.

Third visit! This all-you-can-eat buffet is seriously addictive! The price has gone up quite a bit, but I understand why. I think it was too cheap before. I love the buffet style where dishes are brought to you non-stop. I always enjoy authentic Chinese food to my heart's content. The steamed chicken appetizer is a favorite of mine, and the dim sum is flawless with no off flavors. Whenever I'm in Kyoto, I have to go there.

I used it for my relative's 60th birthday celebration. We usually order a la carte, but this time we ordered a course menu because there were many people, and also added a few extra dishes. Every dish was delicious, but the crab omelette, shrimp mayo, mango pudding, and other items that you can find in other restaurants were on a whole different level of deliciousness. Truly remarkable.

I have never taken a train in Kyoto, only cars or taxis. The only difficulty I encountered when visiting this restaurant was finding a coin parking lot (there is none inside the building). Despite taking some time to find it, it was worth it to visit this charming place during the busy Obon season. The nostalgic atmosphere inside, reminiscent of old Shanghai, was lovely. The various dishes being brought in on rattling stainless steel carts. The staff were all friendly and provided excellent service. The food was delicious and the staff explained each dish in detail. I particularly enjoyed the chicken feet, a favorite of mine that is not often found in Japan. The xiaolongbao and fried dishes were also great, and I liked the style of choosing dishes at the table. I have tried many buffets and Chinese restaurants in Kyoto's top hotels, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of this place. For grilled dishes, you can choose from samples beforehand and receive freshly grilled items, which was a nice touch. I was also surprised to see many solo diners, who were seated at large round tables with plenty of space and received attentive service. Throughout my visit, I saw solo diners of various ages and genders enjoying their meals in a relaxed manner. The staff did not rush anyone and treated everyone equally, creating a great atmosphere. Although I couldn't drink alcohol due to driving, I was not pressured to do so and enjoyed plenty of delicious tea instead. I would love to visit this restaurant again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Located 3 minutes on foot from Shijo Kawaramachi, you can get to Hong Kong without a magic door. Their specialty is the all-you-can-order dim sum buffet. With authentic trolley service, you can enjoy over 60 varieties of authentic dim sum and snacks. From appetizers, steamed dishes, fried dishes, stir-fried dishes, Chinese porridge, soup noodles, desserts, and more. From shark fin dumplings to simmered chicken feet, there is a wide range of choices that make choosing fun. The flavors are authentic but not too heavy, with a light seasoning. The portions are small, so you can enjoy a variety of dishes. It's a very cost-effective restaurant, and I have used it many times. This time, I ate until I felt like I was going to burst.

I visited a restaurant called COCON Karasuma, which is directly connected to Shijo Station or Karasuma Station. I made a last-minute reservation for a meal with a business partner. They offer a lunch set menu that changes weekly. I ordered the Hong Kong-style dim sum lunch for 2280 yen, which included appetizers, grilled dishes, a selection of dim sum, the main dish of the week, Hong Kong-style soup noodles, and a choice of dessert. The dishes were served all at once on a tray. The dim sum were flavorful from the start and delicious. The main dish was a choice of noodles with simple flavors. For dessert, you could choose from 3 options. It's a great place to enjoy a casual Hong Kong dining experience. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

"Old Hong Kong Restaurant Kyoto" located on the restaurant floor of "Cocoon Karasuma," directly connected to Karasuma Station. The restaurant specializes in authentic Hong Kong cuisine and has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. The restaurant is quite spacious, with almost 100 seats in total, divided into several rooms, making it suitable for large group gatherings. The staff provides casual yet courteous service, creating a comfortable atmosphere. The dim sum trolley passing by adds to the authentic experience. I opted for the "Chef's Special Lunch" priced at 1,980 yen, which included a variety of dishes. The appetizer platter consisted of Chinese-style pickles, jellyfish, chicken, and a meat dish. The egg and spinach stir-fry was decent but tasted like a simple home-cooked dish. Sweet and sour pork was average, lacking the professional touch. I chose noodles as my main dish, which came with a clear soup but the noodles were not impressive. The dessert options included mango grapefruit, nata de coco, or tapioca, and I enjoyed the mango grapefruit combination. Overall, the lunch set was reasonably priced considering the ambiance and service, but the main dishes did not stand out. It may be more satisfying to opt for the lunch buffet at 4,500 yen for a better dining experience."

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for the first time, and finally got the chance when a friend took me there. I was very excited. We were a bit late but managed to secure a private room, which was great. The atmosphere of the restaurant was just like being in China, and the staff were Chinese, which brought back memories of my trips to China. The appetizers were delicious, especially the two types of jellyfish - one of which I had never tried before and had a great texture. The crispy skin of the roasted duck was excellent. The recommended herbal soup and Emperor shrimp were tasty. The shrimp dumplings and stir-fried shrimp and squid with vegetables were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The fried rice and noodles were simple dishes but executed perfectly. However, I felt that the cost of the recommended soup and Emperor shrimp was a bit high. Next time, I will make sure to check the prices before ordering.

I went to a lunch buffet for Tianjin cuisine! I wanted to try as much as I could because the regular lunch Tianjin dish was delicious. I thought I could choose what I wanted from a wagon, but instead, they brought all the grilled items to the table and lined them up, removing the ones we didn't want. So, I started with grilled dishes, fried dishes, and appetizers. It seemed like we could order more, but after the first round, I was already about to burst from eating too much. I learned that the best way to enjoy Tianjin cuisine is to have just enough for lunch - not too little, not too much.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and enjoyable for dim sum, similar to experiencing it in person in Hong Kong. Despite the image of dim sum being a bit chaotic, the staff are polite and provide clear explanations about the dim sum. The ambiance and music are reminiscent of Hong Kong, giving a satisfying feeling of having lunch in Hong Kong. There are 15 types of appetizers, 10 types of steamed dishes, and 10 types of grilled dishes, all served on a trolley brought to your table. You specify which dishes you want to try. The flavors are all delicious, with favorites like pork buns, steamed dumplings, and shark fin dumplings available for seconds. The use of spices adds to the satisfaction of the flavors. The service is a bit rushed, but not stressful, and the frequent drink orders may be a way to encourage additional purchases. However, the availability of hot tea at the table is sufficient. The lack of congee and soup noodles was a bit confusing, as there was no announcement about it. Overall, the all-you-can-eat dim sum experience in the heart of Kyoto is valuable, despite the slightly high cost of 5000 yen per person. It was an enjoyable dining experience.

COCON KARASUMA's basement 1F. It is a continuously award-winning restaurant for the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in 2023. Despite being a high-class Chinese restaurant, I decided to give it a try. The interior is quite spacious, and there are many luxurious lunch meetings going on. However, there are also many solo diners, couples, and those with a high sense of awareness. The popular lunch menu is the Hong Kong dim sum all-you-can-eat course. The Noodle and Rice Set Lunch (1,980 yen) today included Hong Kong-style char siu noodles and seafood fried rice, which I think is the Golden Set. Of course, the noodles were Hong Kong-style egg noodles. They were thin, firm, and had a good texture and a refreshing taste. But what surprised me the most was how delicious the char siu was! It's a rich and flavorful Chinese char siu that no one could dislike. Also, the bok choy quickly stir-fried with strong heat was surprisingly delicious. This kind of dish that you can't eat at home is brought to you by the strong heat. And the "surprise dish" for me was a spring roll. Of course, it was delicious. I wrote "for me" because the woman sitting across from me also ordered the same thing, but she got a xiaolongbao. Is it a whim? Gender discrimination? (laughs) And when we finished eating, we were offered a dessert choice from a selection of three options on a cart. I chose the mango milk. Ah, it has a good aftertaste. Honestly, when the dish was served, I thought it was just an ordinary Chinese restaurant in the city, but I was wrong. It's truly remarkable. It's a high-class Chinese zone, but I'm sure anything you eat here will be delicious. The service is also friendly and good. It's a restaurant worth bookmarking. Thank you for the meal.

There are so many menu options and they keep coming one after another, so it's fun to choose. Each dish had an authentic taste and was delicious. I ate until I thought my stomach would burst. The dim sum dishes were particularly delicious, so I want to try the dishes I didn't get to try this time on my next visit. ✨

Visited on June 25, 2023 at 11:30 AM. This restaurant, "Old Hong Kong" in Kyoto, has been selected as one of the top 100 Chinese restaurants. The highlight is the Hong Kong-style dim sum buffet available only during lunchtime. I arrived in Kyoto a day early just to enjoy this dim sum buffet. I made a reservation through Tabelog and came to the restaurant. The course was a "Hong Kong-style dim sum buffet for ¥4,500" where you can enjoy 90 minutes of unlimited dim sum. I occupied a table for four by myself, which I felt a bit sorry for. I walked about 2km one way from the hotel, so I started with a "medium draft beer for ¥858". Beer in the daytime is the best! This was my first dim sum buffet experience, so I tried every dish that was brought in on the trolley one by one. However, I couldn't eat as much as I thought, and after trying all the dishes, my stomach was about to burst. Every dish was delicious, and I wanted to eat more, but I couldn't... I felt so pathetic (sad). The dim sum brought in on the trolley for the first time was just as I had seen on TV, and I enjoyed it very much. The 2km walk back was a struggle, and I ended up not eating anything until the next day. Thank you for the meal.

I used to go to the old Hong Kong restaurant under the Kobe overpass. I found a nostalgic name in Kyoto and decided to try it out. They still offer all-you-can-eat dim sum during lunchtime. When I went in the evening, I started with my favorite stir-fried rice noodles. I had already eaten dessert before coming here, so I couldn't eat too much, but I ordered a few items from the dim sum menu. I also tried the ham sui gok since they had it. I used to visit Hong Kong 10 years ago, about once or twice a year, so I talked to the staff about how Hong Kong has changed over the years, which was a bit sad. They recommended other dishes, so I ended up ordering more and my stomach was completely full! The bill ended up being higher than expected, but that's okay. It was nice to encounter those nostalgic flavors again. Next time I visit Kyoto, I'll try their lunch menu.

I ordered the Chef's special lunch (1980 yen) which was selected as one of the top 100 Chinese restaurants by WEST. I made a reservation on Tabelog three days in advance and visited the restaurant. However, I found out on the day that it was possible to enter without a reservation. The lunch was reasonably priced and you can enjoy a course meal.

Due to the impact of the typhoon, I didn't feel like getting off the train and searching for a lunch spot in the rain, so I decided to stop by here right after they opened. The place I visited was Lao Hong Kong Sakeya, located on the basement floor of Furukon Karasuma on Karasuma-dori Shijo-sagaru in Kyoto. I ordered the Noodle and Rice Set Lunch (1,980 yen). The Noodle and Rice Set for 5/22-6/2 includes: - Weekly changing noodle: Soup soba with bean sprouts and thinly sliced pork - Weekly changing rice: Crab meat fried rice - One enjoyable side dish - Choice of dessert. Although I was tempted by the cakes at Over Canal on the first floor of the same building, I decided to come to this restaurant because I wanted to eat century egg congee for the first time in a while. However, after looking at the menu, I suddenly felt like having the crispy crab meat fried rice instead. This restaurant is listed on Tabelog as one of the top 100 Chinese restaurants in Western Japan.

This is a famous dim sum restaurant in Kyoto! I've been wanting to come here for a while, and I finally made it! They serve hot dim sum on a trolley. I wanted to try a variety of dishes, so I had one whole dish and cut the others with scissors. It was a great idea because I could try many different types of dim sum. The staff were so kind, I'm sorry for the trouble! Thanks to them, I was able to enjoy a wide variety of dishes and I'm very satisfied. The dim sum here was just perfect! The sweet dishes were also delicious. There are so many types of dim sum that I couldn't try them all, so I'll definitely come back to try the ones I missed. It was so tasty! Thank you for the meal!

Located in the B1 floor of cocon Karasuma, directly connected to the Subway Shijo Station, this authentic Chinese restaurant offers a wide variety of lunch courses. The lunch set includes options like fried rice and steamed chicken noodle soup, with a choice of 3 dim sum and dessert. The fried rice was simple yet flavorful, reminiscent of high-end establishments. The steamed chicken noodle soup was packed with tender chicken and a delicious broth, with noodles that had a satisfying texture. The dessert selection was presented on a cart for you to choose from, and I opted for the milk mango which was a perfect way to end the meal. This was my first visit, so I chose the most casual course, but they also offer buffet-style courses with all-you-can-eat dim sum. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I wanted to try a variety of dishes little by little, so I was hesitant, but the staff adjusted the portion sizes nicely for me. Personally, I often find that Chinese food has flavors I don't like, but this time everything was delicious and I was impressed. The price is a bit high, but I was satisfied with the service and taste. I visited just before last order, so there weren't many customers and I was able to enjoy my meal leisurely within the time frame. I would like to visit again.

Tonight, I decided to have Chinese food and visited this restaurant. I used to have course meals here before, but this time I wanted to eat my favorite dishes, so I ordered a la carte. The menu was surprisingly extensive! There were probably five times more items than a regular restaurant. Even for someone like me who can decide quickly, it took time just to flip through the pages and check the categories. The staff were quick to ask about my preferences and mood instead of just explaining the menu, which I appreciated. Based on that, they provided recommendations which was nice. Since I had specific preferences for today, I chose only the dishes I wanted to eat from the menu. I ordered appetizer platter, raw sea bass, simmered shark fin, chili prawns, pork with green peppers, and crab miso fried rice, among others. The average price per dish was around 3,000 yen, so I assumed that they would come in decent portions, but every dish on the menu made me want to try it. The quality of the food was high, and you could really taste the goodness of the ingredients. It had the finishing touch of a high-end Chinese restaurant, but each dish had a clear and understandable deliciousness that I appreciated. It might not be suitable for those who want to try various types of dishes in small portions, but it is a restaurant that is easy to use and enjoy for small groups. The service, with its lively finishing touches and thoughtful hospitality, definitely justifies the service charge. Since we ordered too much for two people, the bill was a bit high, around 25,000 yen per person. For a regular dinner, you could have a satisfying meal for around 15,000 yen. I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
