I was originally planning to go to the neighboring soba restaurant, but there was a long line! Then I saw that the next door shop had won a Michelin star, so I immediately decided to go there with my friends! They had tatami seating, and the window in front of us had a view of the river! It was a first-class seat! The interior was cool, and they offered free drink refills so you could make tea whenever you wanted. The soba and tempura were both really good. If you're looking for a nice atmosphere, this place is also a good choice!

Near Higashiyama Station, it's a perfect place to stop by after visiting the art museum. I made a phone reservation and got a great seat. I enjoyed delicious tempura soba in a tatami room while gazing at the Shirakawa River and listening to the babbling stream. The soba was really tasty! I want to try the large serving next time.

For the past 6 years, I have enjoyed having duck hot pot at this restaurant in January. The cost performance was great, the taste was good, and it was a fitting way to start the new year. However, looking back now, I feel that the level of service has been gradually declining year by year. Especially this year was not good. I specified a seat when making a reservation, but on the day, I was promptly shown to a different seat. Every year, I reserve the large portion of duck hot pot, but for some reason, I always end up with a regular portion. It's like a promised joke. There used to be hot towels, but this year there were none, and when I asked for one, I was given a tube of 100 wet tissues. For the finishing rice porridge of the hot pot, in the past, the staff would cook it for us, but this year, we were told to make it ourselves. In terms of service, it's not evolving, it's devolving. It's a shame because the duck hot pot itself is still delicious as before. I have to lower the rating this time.

After having a meal at Yoshizumi in Shimogamo, we visited Shugakuin Imperial Villa. This villa was built by Emperor Gosai and consists of upper, middle, and lower villas with a vast and undulating landscape, including 80,000 square meters of rice fields as attached farmland. It is a truly magnificent strolling garden. Similar to Katsura Imperial Villa, we were guided by staff and received explanations while walking for about an hour, which was a bit tiring under the scorching sun. Summer can be tough. Afterwards, we stayed at a private inn along the Shirakawa River near Higashiyama Station. They did not provide meals, so after indulging in a feast at noon, we opted for a lighter meal in the evening. We rested a bit at the inn and then headed north along the Shirakawa River to this soba restaurant located slightly north of Higashiyama Station. Despite being a soba restaurant, it seemed that they only accepted reservations in advance, making us wonder if it was a particularly popular place or if there was some special reason. Therefore, we had made a reservation. The entrance of the restaurant had a calm Kyoto-like atmosphere, but the interior felt somewhat unsettling. The tables were near the entrance, while the back was all raised tatami seating without much atmosphere. Despite the reservation-only policy, there were only a few people at the table near the entrance. Since no one was in the raised tatami area, my wife and I sat there and ordered. I had the large serving of duck soba, while my wife chose herring soba. She likes duck meat but dislikes green onions, so she decided to go with herring soba this time. The soba itself was quite ordinary, contrary to our expectations due to the reservation-only policy, and it felt like a very average soba restaurant you would find in town. Both my wife and I had a similar impression. Perhaps it's difficult to fully appreciate the aroma of soba in the hot weather, but it was somewhat disappointing. After leaving the restaurant, we leisurely walked along the Shirakawa River back to the inn. It was my first time seeing the river so peacefully. We could even see its gentle flow from the second floor of the inn. It was really nice.

Soba Restaurant Masutomi Located at 103 Oitecho, Sanjo-dori Shirakawa Hashi Nishi Iruru, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City - Kamonanba Soba Listed as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog, this popular spot in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto is a must-visit! I went during lunchtime and waited for about 30 minutes. I originally went for the soba, but they also offer a side dish called Kamochiri, which requires a reservation, so be sure to keep that in mind. What I ordered that day: - Kamonanba Soba A gentle broth with plenty of duck meat! The texture of the duck meat was amazing, unlike any I've had before. Perhaps because the soba was warm, I didn't taste the soba flavor as much, but the texture was great and I couldn't stop eating. I ordered the large size and wished I could have had seconds (laughs). The broth was so delicious that I could eat it endlessly. I was surprised to see two men at the table next to me eating three bowls of soba each (laughs). Next time, I want to try the seiro soba.

My husband and I went on a cherry blossom viewing tour in Kyoto. We got off at Keage and walked to Higashiyama from the Incline. Unfortunately, Yamamoto Menzo was very busy, so we had to give up on that today. However, even though it was just after opening, there was already a line at Matsutomi. The neighboring restaurant, Samikouan, was the same. Matsutomi seemed to have fewer people waiting, so we went there. We ended up waiting for about an hour, even though many people had reservations. It's Sunday, so I guess it can't be helped. Finally, we were seated and I ordered the duck soba that I had decided on in advance. My husband ordered the tempura set. After waiting for about 2-30 minutes, our food arrived. The smell of the duck and the dipping sauce made my mouth water. The duck had more pieces than I expected, which made me happy. The dipping sauce, which never disappoints, was delicious. The soba itself was chewy and tasty. I love soba, but I'm not an expert, so I can't really tell the difference between this place and others. As long as it's a proper soba restaurant, I usually find it delicious. However, if I were to be picky, I would say that I wish there was a bit more soba, as even the large portion felt like a normal amount. Maybe this is the refined Kyoto portion size. (I am a big eater, so I need more, haha)

Is it a family-run business? The grandma was so cute. I ordered soba with yuba on top! Being in Kyoto, it had a gentle flavor. Coming from Nagoya where flavors are stronger, it might have been too mild for me (^-^; Yuba is really delicious! I've only had it at temples or on trips before, so I can't really compare, but yuba is tasty! It was nice to relax at this cozy soba restaurant.

Masutomi! Duck Seiro Soba! I wanted to eat delicious soba so I went to Masutomi! There were many options but I chose the recommended Duck Seiro Soba! The appearance is short noodles that sparkle! When I tried it, the soba aroma was good! It had a good chewiness and texture, and a nice throat feel! The duck broth was flavorful with a strong taste of sansho pepper! A broth that everyone loves! The duck meat was delicious and there was plenty of it! Finally, I drank the soba water and it was satisfying! Oh, it was delicious! Masutomi! No mistake!!!

Located right next to the 1st exit of Higashiyama Station in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, this restaurant is situated to the east after climbing a small alley along the Shirakawa River from Sanjo Street. The exterior has a simple and traditional Japanese appearance, while the interior has a cozy and homely atmosphere. The menu mainly focuses on soba noodles, with a variety of rice bowl dishes also available, including dishes like duck hot pot. The soba noodles come in both hot and cold options, with the option to upgrade to a set meal or larger portion for an additional fee. The Duck Soba Set meal includes three side dishes and rice, with the soba noodles being freshly ground in a stone mill. The noodles have a slightly greenish color and a rough texture, offering a fresh and delicate flavor. The duck broth is warm and filled with plenty of duck and green onions, with hints of sansho pepper and yuzu aroma. The duck meat is firm yet tender, complementing the sweet and rich flavor of the broth. The side dishes include simmered vegetables, spicy miso with vinegar, and pickled vegetables. The soba noodles are carefully selected from all over Japan, showcasing the restaurant's dedication to using quality ingredients. With its rustic charm and smooth taste, this restaurant is popular among tourists due to its convenient location near Heian Shrine and Kyoto National Museum.

It has become an annual tradition, and this year I visited Heian Shrine for Hatsumode (first shrine visit of the year). After that, I decided to explore and find a place to have lunch. I wandered into a quaint restaurant near Higashiyama Station, down a side street. The exterior of the restaurant had a Kyoto-like charm, which may have stood out to me as someone from out of town. I noticed that there were already two groups waiting in line 15 minutes before the opening, indicating that it might be a popular spot. Inside the restaurant, there were tables near the entrance and tatami seating towards the back. I sat at a table near the entrance and checked the menu, which had a limited selection. There was a dish called "New Year's Greetings," so I assumed it was a special New Year's menu. I ordered the Duck Nanba Soba Set Meal and Yuba Soba, as it seemed like a Kyoto specialty. However, a few minutes later, I was informed that they were out of Yuba, so I had to change my order to Tempura Soba. The meal was served in about 15 minutes. The set meal came with three small side dishes like tsukemono (pickles) and rice for an additional 350 yen, but I felt the pricing was a bit ambiguous based on the menu. The soba was warm with a good texture and the duck meat was tender with a nice chewiness. The combination of soba, broth, and duck was excellent. The three small side dishes were tasty but nothing exceptional. After trying the Duck Nanba Soba, I wished I had ordered Zaru Soba instead. The Tempura Soba had shrimp, shiso leaf, and nori seaweed on top, with a crispy texture and a delicious broth-soaked part. The tempura was fried perfectly, adding to the classic flavor. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would like to revisit this restaurant if I return to Kyoto. I finished my meal, paid the bill, and left the restaurant feeling satisfied.

Located just a minute's walk from Higashiyama Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, this restaurant has no parking. Established in 1953, this traditional soba restaurant operates by reservation only. I decided to try their specialty, the Kamo Chiri for 3,600 yen including tax. The restaurant is housed in a Kyoto-style machiya townhouse, with a charming atmosphere. I was seated in the tatami room at the back of the restaurant. The beautifully arranged duck meat arrived, with instructions to eat it as soon as the color changes to avoid it becoming tough. The duck meat was tender, flavorful, and truly delicious. The hot pot also included yuba and nama-fu, adding a Kyoto touch to the dish. After finishing the hot pot, I enjoyed the homemade soba noodles in the remaining broth, which were fragrant and had a smooth texture. The meal was completed with a rice dish and a dessert of mandarin oranges. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience, and I would love to visit this restaurant again. Additionally, I ordered the zaru soba set for 1,100 yen including tax, which is shown in the photo for reference.

Good evening ( ̄Д ̄)ノ Tonight, I am in the area around Higashiyama Sanjo. If you head south, you will find Marushin Ryotei, and if you go west, you will reach Ryumon Honten, offering a variety of Chinese cuisine. Continuing east, you will come to a place where high-end hotels and condominiums line the streets, creating a different atmosphere that is distinctly Kyoto. After a short walk down narrow alleyways, you will find Sobadokoro Masutomi. Tonight, we are having a year-end party here! I am looking forward to the delicious soba and duck dishes. The interior of the restaurant is designed like a traditional Kyoto townhouse with a long narrow layout. You take off your shoes and sit on the tatami mats. As everyone gathers for the year-end party, we start by adding vegetables and then boiling the duck meat for shabu-shabu. The duck meat is succulent and rich, with a sweet and firm texture different from chicken. The vegetables are also tasty, and the hot pot warms you up on a chilly night. What makes the meat and vegetables taste so good? It's the fragrant and flavorful ponzu sauce. You can even drink the sauce on its own. The combination of dipping the meat and vegetables in this ponzu sauce is delicious. As we enjoy our food and drinks, the pot becomes more flavorful, and then the soba noodles arrive. Served on a bamboo strainer, the cold soba noodles are best enjoyed by dipping them in the hot pot briefly before slurping them up with wasabi on top. The refreshing soba noodles go down smoothly. Duck and soba noodles make a great pair! Finally, we have the rice dish to finish the meal. We topped the rice with wasabi and poured the hot pot broth over it. With a full stomach, we each enjoyed a tangerine for dessert. The duck hot pot (reservation required) costs 3,600 yen per person. We warmed our hearts and bodies with delicious hot pot and drinks. Thank you, President. Please take care and stay safe as we approach the end of the year. After this, I will disappear into the night in Gion. It's been a while since I've been to a karaoke bar ♬ My specialties are Checkers, WAND'S, and GLAY. Yes, it's old-school, so what!? I'll show off my beautiful voice ( ̄Д ̄)ノ Bohe〜〜〜♬ P.S. While writing this review, I was surprised to see Rira-chan at the restaurant (´⊙ω⊙`) What a surprise!

I have been extremely busy lately, working every Saturday and only having Sundays off. I am feeling very tired. Despite that, today I went on a day trip to Kyoto. For lunch, I went to Masutomi, a soba restaurant along the Shirakawa River in Higashiyama. The restaurant was a bit small and I was seated in a tatami room. I prefer warm soba, so I ordered the Kamo Namban Soba. The portion was a bit small, but the broth was delicious and I finished it quickly. I also had some tempura, which was tasty but the portion was also small.

I visited this restaurant based on reviews I read. The location is a bit hard to find, it's just outside the Higashiyama subway station, up a narrow alley. The interior is small but clean and has a calm atmosphere. I was seated at a table overlooking the Shirakawa River, in a sunken kotatsu style seating. It was nice for my tired legs. I chose the duck soba which had many reviews. The duck meat didn't have a strong smell, making it easy for even those who don't like duck to enjoy. The broth had a strong dashi flavor, typical of Kyoto. As someone who prefers a soy sauce-heavy soba broth, I found it a bit lacking, but it was still delicious.

After visiting the Kyocera Museum, my friend and I decided to check out this restaurant that was also chosen as one of the top 100 in the area. There was a long line, but we decided to wait and eventually got in easily (although it did get crowded later on). We ordered the duck soba set meal, which was prepared by a young male chef with assistance from an older woman and a young employee. Our table was near the kitchen and the staff area, which was a bit cramped. The woman peeked out from time to time, while the men chatted loudly and somewhat obnoxiously. The service towards us was fine, but the staff seemed too cheerful and chatty, which might have been a bit much. The food was delicious, but I probably wouldn't come back again.

A soba restaurant in Kyoto. I happened to come across this soba restaurant! The soba had a gentle broth with a sense of history. Both the noodles and the dipping sauce were to my liking and delicious. The tempura was also crispy and tasty. I might visit again if I have the chance.

At the soba restaurant, I usually had a choice between tempura or duck nanban, but this time in Kyoto, known for its duck, I tried the duck seiro (cold soba). I ordered the cold soba with duck meat, which was not sliced as I had imagined, but rather in large, chewy cuts. It was so satisfying! The dipping sauce had a subtle yuzu flavor that added a refreshing touch to the rich broth. Even as I ate more, my mouth didn't feel overwhelmed. I wish there was a bit more soba though!笑

I had lunch at Sobadokoro Masutomi in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. I made a reservation this time because a few years ago I was turned away due to being fully booked. I requested a sunken hearth seat, which had a beautiful view of the river and greenery. I ordered the Duck Seiro Soba for 1250 yen. The homemade stone-ground buckwheat noodles had a great texture and were very smooth. The duck broth was elegant and paired perfectly with the soba. The duck meat was cooked perfectly, tender and delicious. When you drink the soba broth, you can taste the richness of the duck.
