Visited on a Sunday evening. The service was a bit slow after being seated. There were many families, creating a lively and homely atmosphere. The hamburger was fluffy and really delicious. The rice was white and you could have unlimited refills, and the pickles on the side made it easy to eat as much as you wanted. They also seem to be very particular about their rice, as it changes daily.

【Visit Date】September 16, 2023 Lunch 【Order】Special Lunch (with demi-glace sauce), Brown Rice and White Rice (medium) Today, I visited my hometown Kyoto. I was planning to have breakfast, but got distracted by a travel salad and ended up running late. I decided to switch to lunch instead. My destination was a famous Western-style restaurant. I arrived at Demachiyanagi Station on the Keihan line before 10 am. It took about 40 minutes on foot to reach Kitchen Papa. Sweaty and exhausted by 10:30 am, there was no one there. I had no choice but to pass the time on a bench at a nearby bus stop. I started lining up at 40 minutes past the hour. After a while, a few people with hair followed behind me. While waiting, I cried loudly, and the staff at the restaurant provided amazing service when I finally got inside. I got a seat at 10:45 am and a table at 10:50 am. This place is a restaurant attached to a rice shop, and it seems they have a strong focus on rice, with today's white rice being Milky Queen from Kyoto. Brown rice was also available. I ordered the Special Lunch, limited to 20 servings, with extra brown rice. The salad arrived in about 10 minutes. Five minutes later, the rice, miso soup, and main dishes followed. Today's main dishes were a burger, shrimp fry, and bacon cheese cream croquette. The main dishes had a well-balanced flavor, leaning towards a mild taste, but the rice was indeed delicious. I had a satisfying second helping. The amazing service and well-trained staff made the experience great. By 11:05 am, the restaurant was full and there was a line forming. It was incredibly popular. Quite different from me. I left after 30 minutes. Thank you for the meal.

I was cut off last time, so I visited for a return match. I arrived at 12 o'clock, but there were three groups ahead of me. I was surprised that the last order is at 1 o'clock, but they stop taking customers at 12:30, probably due to preparations. This time, I ordered the Beef Stew Hamburg. It came with not only the hamburger but also two pieces of beef stew. It wasn't as impressive as my first visit, but it was delicious.

On Saturday around 10:30, the underground coin parking was full, and the next closest one was also full. I searched and found a place that was already open 10 minutes before their official opening time. I just managed to get a seat. For today's special lunch, I got a salad, rice, and miso soup. Even with just one bowl of rice and the pickles on the table, I was already full. Then the main dish arrived - I got the Chicken Nanban this time! It went really well with the rice. I was completely satisfied and my stomach was full. New rice will be coming soon. I can't wait to eat something like this again soon!

Today is the second day of the three-day weekend on Sunday. After checking out of a hotel in Osaka Honmachi where I stayed the previous day, I went for a walk to visit three famous sweet shops. Then, I had lunch at a Western restaurant in Nada-ku, Kobe. After finishing the meal, I thought about heading back, but realized that I hadn't heard the live performance of the Gion Festival's "Konchikichin" yet! So, I decided to end my trip by going back to Kyoto. I traveled from Kyoto to Shiga to Osaka to Hyogo and back to Kyoto in 2 nights and 3 days. It was incredibly crowded. It felt like normal life had completely returned. While it was nice to see, it was also difficult to see the floats... After walking around the area, I felt the summer atmosphere of Kyoto. For dinner, I headed towards Kitano Hakubaicho. I went to a restaurant called Kitchen Papa, which is now listed in the top 100 Western restaurants in Japan instead of Grill Isogawa. When I arrived, I was surprised to find that the storefront was actually a rice polishing shop. However, the restaurant was located inside. Inside, jazz music was playing, which was interesting. I was seated and looked at the menu. Unfortunately, the set menu of hamburger and cream croquette was sold out, so I ordered the set menu of hamburger and chicken nanban with a soft-boiled egg topping. I chose the special demi-glace sauce for the sauce. The rice was freshly polished by the rice polishing shop established in Ansei 3 years, using freshly polished rice from Kyoto Tanba and Milky Queen (the variety may change each time). Refills were free! The restaurant was full of mischievous university students, which was amusing. After a short wait, the salad arrived. It consisted of shredded cabbage, daikon, and tomato. Then, the set menu of hamburger and chicken nanban with a soft-boiled egg, rice, and miso soup arrived. The chicken nanban was quite ordinary, while the hamburger was soft and delicious. The soft-boiled egg on top was particularly enticing. However, the highlight was the rice, especially when paired with the crunchy radish pickles on the table. The set menu is appealing, but the best way to enjoy this place seems to be by savoring the hamburger and rice. I would definitely come back to try the regular hamburger with the Japanese-style grated ponzu sauce. Thank you for the meal!

Kitchen Papa is a Western-style restaurant run by a rice shop established in the third year of Ansei. When you enter the restaurant, it feels like there is a Western-style restaurant in the back of the rice shop. The set meal includes hamburger, shrimp fry, salad, miso soup, and rice. Today's rice is Milky Queen from Shiga Prefecture. It's nice that you can have seconds of rice. The hamburger was delicious but a bit salty. In contrast, the demi-glace sauce was light and just the right amount of salty, which was good. Set meal hamburger & shrimp fry 1600 yen.

I arrived around 11:15 AM. There are a total of 7 tables of various sizes. It was full, and I was second in line waiting outside. By 11:30, there were over 10 people waiting. I received a number ticket after being told it would be a 30-minute wait. While waiting, you can place your order. The restaurant is affiliated with a rice shop, so you can choose between brown or white rice, and the portion size ranges from small to large, with free refills. I ordered the hamburger and chicken nanban set for 1450 yen. I was seated 35 minutes later. The salad arrived quickly. Rice and miso soup came about 10 minutes after being seated. Some people enjoyed the rice with just the pickles provided on the table. The rice was cooked to a slightly firm texture, reflecting the expertise of a rice specialist. Even without pickles, the deliciousness of the rice was evident, and I ended up eating quite a bit. The main dishes arrived about 3 minutes after the rice. The chicken nanban was easy to eat with a hidden knife included. The hamburger was almost entirely meat. The rice was delicious, and the dishes were of the highest quality. You could feel the care put into the preparation, cooking, and seasoning. The sauce was perfectly balanced in taste and quantity. Depending on when you visit, there may be a long wait, but it's definitely worth it. This restaurant is undoubtedly in the top three of Western-style restaurants in Kansai.

On the final day of my stroll in Kyoto, I had lunch at the familiar Kitchen Papa. I always end up coming here, and each time I try a new dish. Today, both of us had the beef stew hamburger, along with the usual sirloin steak. We also tried the shrimp fry for the first time, as well as the special minced cutlet and beer set with fried chicken. The beef stew was rich and the hamburger was juicy, with cheese adding a nice touch. The minced cutlet was fluffy and paired well with the demi-glace sauce. We arrived a little after 11 am, but the place was already full. We had to wait for the second seating, but it was worth it. Kitchen Papa never disappoints!

I ordered the "Set Hamburger & Shrimp Fry" and it was delicious! The hamburger was thick and juicy, while the shrimp fry was large, plump, and had a crispy coating. You could choose between demi-glace sauce and ponzu sauce for the hamburger, and I chose demi-glace this time. It was rich and went perfectly with the meat! The side dish was limited brown rice, which was chewy and fantastic. The set also came with miso soup and salad. I arrived around 17:45 at the 17:30 opening time, and there were already many customers. Unfortunately, the limited "Set Hamburger & Pork Cutlet" was already sold out. I'll have to come back for it next time!

Gourmet-focused solo trip to Kyoto on a weekend, visiting a restaurant for lunch on a Sunday. Arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes before opening time with 2 customers already waiting. Waited in the waiting room inside the restaurant, which had a refreshing sight of various famous rice varieties from across Japan being sold in large quantities. [Food] - Daily lunch special (¥1,580-): Limited to 20 servings per day, includes a 160g hamburger, shrimp fry, rolled tonkatsu, miso soup, salad, and free rice refills. The set was very satisfying with a generous amount of food! Every item on the plate was delicious... Especially the hamburger, which was juicy and flavorful without being too heavy, making it easy to eat. The slightly salty taste made me keep going back for more rice... And the free rice refills. The type of rice varies depending on the day, and on this day, it was Milky Queen rice from Tango, Kyoto. The first serving was a bit dry, making me doubt if it was really Milky Queen, but the second serving had the characteristic sweetness and stickiness, truly delicious. (Was the first serving from the surface or edges of the pot...?) [People, Building] Used a bus for transportation as there was no nearby train station. The restaurant is located in a residential area without parking spaces, standing out as a Western-style restaurant in the neighborhood. The exterior had a traditional feel while the interior was clean and the service was polite, all of which I liked... However, the restaurant only had 8 tables, and guests are seated by table (1 person at a 4-person table). The service took about 20 minutes from ordering, so it may be quite a wait depending on the timing, considering the popularity as a top-rated restaurant on Tabelog. [Ambience, Purpose] The restaurant has a calm and relaxed atmosphere, suitable for a leisurely meal. The customers were diverse, ranging from solo diners to families. Overall, a great restaurant where you can enjoy high-quality rice and delicious Western dishes at a good value! If I lived nearby, I would definitely be a regular customer... I look forward to visiting this restaurant again when I return to Kyoto!

This is a restaurant that serves delicious authentic Western food with rice. They offer large portions of rice with free refills! They also have limited quantities of brown rice available. You can feel the enthusiasm of the rice shop. The brown rice tends to sell out quickly, so be sure to come early. Today's blend was Koshihikari brown rice and mochi rice. The refill was Kyoto Milky Queen. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Welcome back to Kyoto tour! After enjoying the rich and flavorful Nikudaku Tori Paitan ramen in Ichijoji, we headed to the third shrine on our Kyoto sword and stamp tour, Fushimi's Fujimori Shrine! We received our stamp, explored the treasure hall, and completed today's itinerary. In the end, we traveled back and forth between the north and south of Kyoto three times in one day, riding the city bus 13 times, including transfers! With the 700 yen bus day pass, we definitely got more than our money's worth! For dinner, we visited Chibon Kamitachi in the north after our inefficient day of traveling. This place holds special memories for me as it is where I spent my university years 15 years ago. I found Kitchen Papa while planning this trip, a place I had only visited a few times during my student days due to the high prices. The fact that it has now become a famous restaurant made me happy! Kitchen Papa opened in 1996 and is associated with a rice and grain store established in 1856. They offer freshly milled brown rice and a different brand of rice chosen by the owner daily. The best part is that they offer free refills and extra portions! I arrived at the restaurant around 7 pm, and although there were only three groups of customers, the place was packed with memories. I ordered the set hamburger and chicken nanban. The hamburger was juicy and flavorful, with a special demiglace sauce that was sweet and well-rounded. The chicken nanban was tender and juicy, with a delicious tartar sauce on top. The rice served was Kyoto Milky Queen, soft and milky in texture. The miso soup was comforting with red miso. The prices at Kitchen Papa are surprisingly reasonable, and I realized how much the taste has grown over the years. I may have overindulged a bit, but I look forward to coming back again in the future! Thank you for the meal!

This restaurant is located a 20-minute walk from Kitano Hakubaicho Station, and just a short walk from Senbon Kamidachiuri Station by city bus. It is a Western-style restaurant run by a rice shop established in the third year of Ansei. I have been curious about it for a while and happened to walk in this time as I passed by. It was 11:30 on a weekday and there were about 4 groups of customers. They offer a daily limited special of Hamburg steak, but this time I went with a standard menu. Beef stew, cheese Hamburg steak, rice, miso soup, and salad for 1700 yen. The salad was served in about 10 minutes. Then, rice and miso soup came in 5 minutes. Since it is run by a rice shop, you can enjoy freshly polished rice that changes daily. Refills are free and there is also limited brown rice available. By the way, if they run out of rice, they close. The Hamburg steak arrived in 20 minutes. I chose to enjoy the beef stew and Hamburg steak together. The Hamburg steak was good in a way that it was just a normal Hamburg steak. It had that classic taste that makes you want rice. Personally, I would have preferred the beef stew to be a bit richer, but overall the quality was high. The access is a bit inconvenient, but if I have the chance, I would like to revisit to try the Hamburg steak special.

I was looking for a good restaurant near my workplace and found Kitchen Papa. I was torn between the menu options but decided to order the daily lunch special which included hamburger, shrimp fry, and chicken nanban with a normal portion of rice. This restaurant is known for their rice and offers free refills. The daily lunch special was served with a generous portion. The chicken nanban had a crispy texture with a nice touch of vinegar, the hamburger was smooth and juicy without causing heartburn, and the shrimp fry had a firm texture with a rich shrimp flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up getting a rice refill. The rice served today was Milky Queen, which had a chewy texture and left me feeling satisfied. The pickles on the table were also delicious!

After a long time, I went on a casual trip to Kyoto and had lunch at the familiar Kitchen Papa. I ordered the usual hamburger and sirloin steak, topped with two fried shrimps. Today, I added chicken nanban as an option. The juicy hamburger and tender sirloin steak in demi-glace sauce, crispy shrimp fry with tartar sauce, thick chicken thigh with sweet vinegar tartar sauce, and brown rice in large portion, accompanied by a refreshing beer, made me happy from the morning. ❤️

On this day, I visited the restaurant for lunch before a dinner party. I had been craving a genre of food that I hadn't eaten recently... I really wanted to eat hamburgers. After searching around Kyoto, I decided to visit Kitchen Papa. The location is about a 20-minute walk from Imadegawa Station on the subway. I arrived at the restaurant around 11:30, a bit later than the opening time, and there were about 5 people waiting in line outside. A staff member came out to take our order and confirm the menu. I ordered the Chef's Special Lunch (hamburger, shrimp fry, bacon cheese cream croquette). Soon after entering the restaurant and waiting for a while, the hamburger was served. This restaurant originally started as a rice shop, so they also pay attention to the rice they serve. On this day, they used Milky Queen rice from Shiga Prefecture. The rice was freshly polished. You can also choose the amount of rice freely. Now, let's talk about the hamburger! It was juicy and flavorful, with a special demi-glace sauce that complemented the meat well without overpowering it. The shrimp fry and bacon cheese croquette were also delicious, with a good crispy texture. The rice had a nice texture and tasted great. You can also ask for seconds, which is a nice touch. Overall, I felt that this was a good restaurant to enjoy casual Western food in Kyoto.

I arrived at 11:30 and had to wait for 30 minutes because it was a weekday during Golden Week. I ordered the special lunch set which included bacon cheese cream croquette, shrimp fry, and hamburger with cheese. The cheese was rich and stretchy, and the beef stew was delicious. The hamburger had meat and carrot inside, so I could enjoy both the beef stew and hamburger. The rice was cooked firm, like Milky Queen.

I went to the restaurant at 10:30 on a holiday and was given the menu book at 10:40. I waited in the waiting area until 10:50. I entered the restaurant at 11:00 and ordered the special hamburger demi with a large serving of white rice. First, I had a salad, which was a vegetable-first dish. The special hamburger, shrimp fry, and beef cutlet were all delicious and well-prepared, but the rice was the standout. It was so tasty! The restaurant is known for its rice, and it was served in a bowl, which I appreciated. I also liked that they provided pickles in a pot. I ended up getting a second helping of pickles with my rice and left the restaurant feeling satisfied. The only downside was that the restaurant's coin parking lot, located diagonally in front of the store, only had space for two cars.

When you arrive at the restaurant, the staff will quickly inform you of the waiting time. It's helpful to know the approximate time. I placed my order in advance and received a number tag. When the scheduled time arrived, I waited a little longer before entering. The beef stew and miso were sold out, so I opted for the hamburger and pork cutlet. Both dishes come with a choice of sauce, and I chose the demi-glace sauce. The hamburger had a classic Western-style taste, with juicy meat when you cut into it. It was fluffy and delicious. The demi-glace sauce was light and complemented the hamburger perfectly. The rice of the day was Milky Queen from Kyoto Tango, which was very delicious.
