I had the dish "Kuzukiri" with black honey for ¥1,300 (tax included) at the trademarked restaurant "Kuzukiri Mizukami Ben". When I was young, I saw the narrow mountain kuzu flowers. These flowers bloom in a purple cluster and turn into bean-like fruits in autumn. As I eat kuzukiri at "Kagiyo" in Kyoto, I can't help but feel the scent of my hometown soil. I heard that "Kagizen" uses kuzu from Yamato. However, it is said that in the past, there were kuzu plants grown in the deep mountains of Kozuke. Kuzu is a plant with strong roots, and countries like America import seeds from Japan to prevent landslides, creating mountains covered in kuzu flowers. While the flowers are beautiful, the refined taste of kuzukiri, with its delicious roots, is not something of American origin. This is undoubtedly a taste of Japan. As a lover of sake, going up to the second floor of "Kagizen" and being served kuzukiri in that unique vessel, savoring it with my tongue, is the morning after a night of drinking. The sweetness of the air and the whiteness of the kuzu blend coldly on the tongue and slide smoothly down the throat. That taste, like the premium sake served from a lacquer cup, is truly delicious. It feels like the purple petals blooming in scales are reflected on the surface of the ice water left over from eating. I always ask for a second cup and get laughed at. The atmosphere of the kuzukiri shop is undoubtedly reminiscent of the elegance of "Kagizen" in Kyoto, but no matter how many roads and tables are lined up, a place will not last if the taste is not good. This is because the roots that protect the soil of Japanese mountains are being processed deliciously. No matter how much civilization digs up the mountains and fields, the natural deliciousness will remain. I believe that kuzukiri is the king of flavors. I had been wanting to go there for a long time, and finally I was able to go! I ordered the kuzumochi with black syrup that I had been wanting to try. I arrived around 11:30 and was able to get in without waiting in line. It came in a container that looked like a water bottle, with black syrup on the first layer and kuzumochi on the second layer. (At first, I didn't realize and thought the black syrup was an outrageous amount!) The kuzumochi was soft and easy to eat. Thank you for the meal!

I enjoyed relaxing with kuzukiri and traditional Japanese sweets. As I've gotten older, I've started to appreciate the taste of kuzukiri more. The Takadaiji store is small, but when I went on a weekday morning, there was only one other group. It was quiet and a pleasant space to be in.

Sightseeing in Kyoto in the rain. We decided to have tea on this less crowded street. We chose a famous shop that serves "kuzukiri". The menu includes kuzukiri, sweet red bean soup with rice cakes, sweet red bean soup, matcha, green tea, and fresh sweets. Without hesitation, we ordered the kuzukiri with black honey. The dish arrived with a large bowl that looked like a lunch jar. The kuzukiri was served with black honey on top. We dipped the clear kuzukiri into the black honey. Should we dip just the tip like with soba noodles, or fully immerse it? We decided to fully immerse it, and it was just the right level of sweetness. The kuzukiri had a good texture and went well with the black honey. We couldn't stop eating it and finished it silently. It would probably be even more delicious in the hot summer.

"Kagizen Yoshifusa Kodai-ji Store" in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City. Despite having a Tabelog score of 3.62, it ranks 534th in the Tabelog ranking for Kyoto Prefecture out of approximately 22,000 restaurants. In addition, it ranks 28th in the Tabelog ranking for Kyoto Prefecture in the "Sweets" category. It's quite an achievement. I visited this cafe after having lunch at a nearby restaurant called "Ichisei". The cafe is located southeast of Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Electric Railway. It's about a 12-13 minute walk from the station. Upon arrival at the cafe, I found it to be a charming building. I visited on a holiday at 12:55, and there were no other customers at that time. However, more customers started coming in, and by 13:19, the cafe was full. It was clear that this is a popular spot. I sat at a table and checked the menu. This time, I ordered the "Kuzukiri" for 1,400 yen (tax included) and chose between black syrup or white syrup. After a short wait, the Kuzukiri arrived. Regardless of whether it matched my preferences, I was able to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with the cool Kuzukiri. The balanced taste with the mellow sweetness of the black syrup enveloped my taste buds. The Kuzukiri, which had a refreshing coolness, was the highlight of the experience. It was a dessert with a sophisticated sweetness that was moist and smooth. The menu also includes items like Kinako Mochi Zenzai and Oshiruko, which I'm sure would provide even more satisfaction. I would like to challenge those on my next visit. The atmosphere in the cafe is relatively quiet, but it doesn't create a tense atmosphere. I was able to relax and enjoy a leisurely time in a relaxed mode. The cafe is approachable for one person or two, making it easy to drop in for a quick break or a sweet treat. It is a well-known dessert spot that confidently operates in Kyoto City. Kyoto Prefecture is home to many outstanding restaurants. The region has a rich food culture. Renowned establishments such as Kyoto cuisine "Kusagui Nakahigashi", Japanese cuisine "Mizai", French cuisine "Ryouriya Stefan Pantel", Italian cuisine "Yamaguchi", Chinese cuisine "Saika", and Japanese sweets "Shoutgetsu" compete and strive for excellence. In a prefecture filled with popular restaurants like Kyoto, visiting "Kagizen Yoshifusa Kodai-ji Store" and having a high-quality dining experience was truly meaningful.

I tried eating kuzukiri for the first time. It was served in a large bowl with big chunks of ice, semi-transparent noodles inside. In a black lacquered bowl, there was black syrup. I had never eaten kuzukiri before, and I had imagined it to be like agar jelly in anmitsu. It was completely different. The texture was chewy. I wasn't sure how much black syrup to put on, but I found that dipping about half of the noodles was okay, although dipping about 80% and eating it was the best way to enjoy it. There was more than I expected, and I am full now. The first experience of eating kuzukiri was delicious. It's important to try new things without prejudice. Thank you for the meal.

The Keykanya Room Shijo Main Store is a popular tea shop in Kyoto that has been selected as one of the top 100 sweets shops ❤️ The store at Kodai-ji Temple has a calm atmosphere with no long lines, making it easy to enter ☺️ I had high expectations when I went, but I was a little disappointed with the service. The specialty "kuzukiri" costs 1400 yen and comes in a double-layered container with a lid, containing kuzukiri and black syrup, giving it a luxurious appearance. This kuzukiri is made from kuzuko powder from Yoshino, Nara, and water, while the black syrup is made from Okinawan black sugar. It had a good texture and was moist and delicious until the last bite ❤️

I was in the mood to eat kuzukiri no matter what, but the main store in Gion was closed. Then I remembered there was a shop at Kodai-ji Temple, so I decided to come here. It was my first visit since I was a child, but the atmosphere was just as I vaguely remembered. I was able to enjoy a relaxing snack. It was nice to receive complimentary chrysanthemum sugar as well!

I entered Kyoto by Shinkansen from Fukuoka. This is a review of a restaurant I visited when I went sightseeing at Kodai-ji Temple. I took a bus from Kyoto Station and walked to the restaurant, which is located just before Kodai-ji Temple. The restaurant is a traditional machiya with a surprisingly spacious interior and tables neatly arranged with plenty of space. There were hardly any customers, so I was able to relax. Of course, I ordered their specialty, kuzukiri. Kuzukiri is served in two tiers, with one tier in ice water and the other tier in black honey. The kuzukiri is thin and long, similar to somen noodles, but it is translucent and has a chewy texture. When you eat it, it is chewy and slides smoothly down your throat, giving a refreshing sensation. The light kuzukiri pairs well with the rich black honey. I also had matcha because my mouth was getting sweet, but the total of 2200 yen is a bit expensive. However, if you came all the way here, I recommend trying it as it is delicious.

After visiting Kiyomizu-dera, I stopped here for a break. I ordered kuzukiri with black honey. The chewy texture was enjoyable. While the shop in Shijo is nice, this one has a spacious and calming atmosphere with a view of the garden. The complimentary Kikusato sugar was delicious too.

Visited the popular sweet shop "Kagiya" in the Kodai-ji area. The main store is a well-established shop in Gion Shijo and is one of my favorite shops in Kyoto. The Kodai-ji store is often closed, making it difficult to visit, but I finally got the chance this time. The store opened in 1983. Considering that the main store was established during the Kyoho era, it may seem relatively new, but it's amazing to see them continue operating for 40 years in the ever-changing Kodai-ji area.
Had the Kuzukiri (¥1200), which is a must-try at Kagiya. When I tried the first piece, it was a bit lukewarm. There was ice in the bucket of kuzukiri, so I mixed it around and chilled it to try it again. This is it! The chewy texture and smooth throat sensation. A clear taste without any roughness. The black honey is thick and rich, yet has a refined sweetness with a clean aftertaste that pairs well with the kuzukiri. The second store was also undeniably delicious!

One of the must-visit shops when you come to Kyoto. Despite being early April, it was as hot as midsummer on this day. Perfect weather for kuzukiri!! The shop was empty around noon. Even though I had just had breakfast, I didn't hesitate to enter. I ordered the kuzukiri with black honey without hesitation. After a while, the kuzukiri, making a clinking sound of ice, was brought to me. The sight of the kuzukiri, once opened, was exciting. It was so beautiful that I couldn't help but admire it for a while. When I dipped it in the sweet black honey with chopsticks, it went "churun" and was so deliciously sweet and refreshing that I couldn't stop eating it!! I usually finish it in one go every time, haha. Thinking of Kyozen Ryoriya, I feel disappointed when I eat kuzukiri at other shops. Kuzukiri is definitely the best at Kyozen Ryoriya!! I want to keep coming back here in the future!!

I went for lunch on a weekday! The interior of the restaurant was not crowded, but it might get busy on weekends as it is not very spacious. The seating is like private booths, so you can relax. The exterior and interior have a traditional Japanese feel! It seems like a fairly new restaurant and is very clean. I ordered the rice cake set! It is a style where you grill the rice cake on a skewer yourself. The rice cakes come in plain and mugwort flavors, with either sweet soy sauce or red bean paste as toppings. The rice cakes were very soft and delicious! I went in a kimono, and the rice cake set was not too filling, so I could enjoy it comfortably! However, if you are looking for a more substantial meal, this might not be enough. This is a highly recommended restaurant, especially for women! The restaurant has a view of a park, so it is particularly recommended during the autumn foliage season!

It was my first visit. This is a Japanese confectionery shop located in Kodai-ji Temple in Kyoto. It is the second store of "Kagi Zenrabo," famous for its Kuzukiri. It is a little further away from the main store, so you can enter without much crowd. Since it was close to closing time, it was even more empty. I ordered the "Kuzukiri (with white honey)" this time. I had only tried the black honey at the main store before, so this time I tried the white honey. I tried the Kuzukiri. The taste of Yoshino kudzu is rich, the texture is chewy, and it is really delicious as it is. The white honey is not too assertive, with a moderate sweetness that enhances the taste of Kuzukiri. I would like to try it again at the main store. Thank you very much.

I visited "Kagiya Yoshinoya Takayama-dera Store" located just up the hill from the entrance of Kyoto's Takayama-dera temple. The main store on Shijo Street is a very famous traditional Japanese sweets shop. This shop has a calm atmosphere in a machiya (traditional wooden townhouse). I ordered their signature dish, kuzukiri, and it arrived in a green container with two tiers. The kuzukiri is made from only kuzu powder and water from Yoshino, Nara. The first tier was filled with kuzukiri and the second tier had black honey. The kuzukiri had a great texture, chewy and delicious. When dipped in the rich black honey made from Okinawan black sugar, it was a perfect match and I couldn't stop eating. The freshly made kuzukiri was so beautiful and I finished it in no time. The chilled kuzukiri is perfect for summer. I highly recommend this place for a satisfying experience.

It was a very hot day, so I wanted to eat a refreshing snack and decided to visit based on a friend's recommendation of a place that had delicious kuzumochi. There were about four groups of people inside the shop. You can choose between black honey and white honey for the kuzumochi. Since it was my first time trying kuzumochi, I chose the standard black honey. The kuzumochi arrived in about 5 minutes in a container that looked like a two-tiered bento box (with the black honey container on top and the kuzumochi container underneath). I tried it and it was sweet but not too heavy, very delicious! There was also more than enough quantity, more than it appeared. I thought I would like to eat it again when I come to Kyoto next time.

I went to Kagi Zenzai at Kodai-ji Temple. While the main store in Gion is good, I personally prefer the thickness and texture of the kuzu at Kagi Zenzai in Kodai-ji Temple. The main store's kuzu is a bit thicker and chunkier, but I like the slightly thinner and finer kuzu at Kodai-ji Temple. When I want something hearty, I go for the black syrup, and when I want something lighter, I choose the white syrup. This time, I had the white syrup. Despite that, after finishing it, my stomach felt quite full, so I wouldn't recommend having it before dinner (lol). However, there are fewer people at Kodai-ji Temple compared to the Gion store, so you can enjoy it leisurely. I'll definitely visit again to take a breather. Thank you for the meal! (^-^)

This time I was in Kyoto in winter, so I was debating whether to eat or not, but since the kuzukiri here is delicious, I decided to have some before leaving. The main store was closed, so I went out of my way to come here. As I walked, I suddenly remembered that when I came to Kyoto before, I visited Ishikawa in Gion nearby. Now, the kuzukiri (with black honey) had no hint of the usual kudzu taste, it was smooth and chewy. Ah, it's delicious after all. (But it's cold, haha) I love the Kikujusato sugar that comes with the tea. It has a gentle sweetness that warms the heart. I bought a lot of souvenirs before heading back. Thank you for the meal (201902).

It takes over 10 minutes to walk from Gion Shijo Station. In Gion, there is the main store of Kagiya, located near Kodai-ji Temple. I really love Kagiya's Kuzukiri, and whenever I come to Gion in the summer, I always feel like eating it. The sweetness of the black honey, the chilled Kuzukiri, and the kinako powder sprinkled on top are just amazing. I always feel a sense of loneliness after finishing it. It's similar to the sadness of the end of summer.

I had lunch in Gion and then walked towards Kodai-ji Temple. For a snack, I had awa zenzai and kuzukiri. The matcha was also elegant and delicious.
