When it comes to tonkotsu ramen, I always associate it with Hakata, but I heard that it originated in Kurume. So, tonight's dinner decision is tonkotsu ramen. I stayed at a hotel in front of Nishitetsu Kurume Station, so I decided to look for a nearby ramen shop. I found a popular shop with about three people lined up in front of it, even on a weekday. Looking at the menu, I noticed that hormone (offal) is also a specialty, but since I didn't have much of an appetite after walking around in the scorching heat of over 36°C during the day, I decided to keep it simple and ordered a bowl of ramen. The simple tonkotsu ramen came with three slices of rolled chashu, plenty of green onions, and a lump of fried lard on top, all for only 680 yen, which is quite cheap these days. The soup had a sufficient umami flavor of tonkotsu without any unpleasant smell, and it was easy to eat. The noodles were straight, medium-thin noodles that mixed well with the soup. Getting three slices of chashu for this price was much appreciated. If I had more appetite, I would have liked to try more variety. Thank you for the meal.

I had gyoza at Goban-san and it wasn't enough. So I decided to go to Daiei Ramen, which is close to the hotel. Established in 1973, they serve a tonkotsu-based soup that has been simmered and added to over time. I ordered a ramen and a draft beer. The noodles were cooked to a normal firmness. The soup, surprisingly, had a light and mellow taste despite being tonkotsu-based. The ramen had three slices of char siu and plenty of green onions. The noodles were thicker than Hakata ramen, and there were crispy fried fat pieces in the soup. The char siu was a bit thin and lacked juiciness. Overall, it was a gentle tonkotsu ramen that even those who don't like strong tonkotsu flavors might enjoy. I regret not trying the horumon (offal) as well. Thank you for the meal.

In the early afternoon, I happened to spot a shop from the bus and found out it was near Nishitetsu Kurume Station, so I walked back a bit and visited. The ramen was ¥680 and the large size was an additional ¥150. It was a traditional and orthodox Kurume ramen. It didn't have a huge impact, but it was very satisfying. It was probably the result of many years of accumulation. Things that have been around for a long time are always kind.

Kurume City #Dai Ei Ramen Honten
While running errands in the area, I searched around and found Dai Ei Ramen! Established in Showa 48 (1973), the building has a nice charm. This time, I debated between horumon (offal) and ended up ordering ramen with beef tongue minced meat rice. The rice, minced meat, egg yolk, and green onions were a perfect match. The ramen had light noodles that paired well with the mild soup, making it delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I visited around 8 pm on a weekday and there were two people waiting, so we were seated right away. After eating gyoza, I ordered a mini ramen. The rich pork bone soup was delicious. The chashu was also tasty. Thank you for the meal!

Around 10 p.m., a group of 5 of us managed to just barely get a seat at the restaurant. We didn't know it was a famous place, but the ramen we casually tried was surprisingly delicious. The 680 yen ramen came with 3 slices of chashu. The noodles were slightly thicker than the thin noodles commonly found in Fukuoka, and they were really tasty when combined with the soup. I now want to try out the famous ramen shops in Kurume. I would definitely visit this place again when I stay in that area.

I entered the restaurant before 7:00 PM on a regular day. I sat at the counter near the entrance and ordered ramen for 680 yen with firm noodles. The ramen arrived in about 2 minutes, with a rich pork bone aroma. When I drank the soup, the pork bone flavor spread slowly in my nose and mouth. The thin noodles went into my mouth while capturing the soup. The noodles had a firm texture. There were three slices of tender char siu. The moist and sweet leeks paired well with the soup. You can also enjoy changing the taste of the soup with soy sauce or garlic soy sauce. There are no decorations, just simple and authentic ramen. The chef in the kitchen was always attentive to the customers, and the staff's service was energetic and polite. This is what a ramen restaurant should be like. Despite being located near Nishitetsu Kurume, the business philosophy of valuing customers at a low price is evident. It was excellent.

I had the Ramen set for 750 yen (tax included). The pork bone soup has a strong smell and rich flavor. The crispy bits floating on top were a nice touch. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. If I get hungry again, I would like to try the Hormone set or Pig's Feet set next time.

The staff at the restaurant were all Chinese, which made me briefly worried if my order would be understood properly. I ordered a set of grilled hormone and rice with tonkotsu ramen. I also tried adding grated yam as a topping for the tonkotsu ramen, which I had never seen before. Kyushu's tonkotsu ramen always tastes light and refreshing, despite being pork bone-based. It might be perfect for a post-drinking meal. In regions like Chubu and Kanto, many places intentionally make their tonkotsu ramen smell strongly of pork, which is not appetizing after drinking. Both the ramen and hormone were delicious, and I left satisfied.

I visited a restaurant in Kurume for a meal after drinking. My goal was to eat horumon and ramen before heading home, and my wish came true in Kurume. We arrived after 10 pm and had to wait a bit because the restaurant was full. First, I enjoyed horumon at Taiyo and waited for the ramen to arrive while sipping on beer. The firm texture of the horumon goes well with beer! The gentle and light ramen that arrived was perfect for the slightly drunk body. It was delicious! A perfect way to end the meal. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I visited on a business trip to Kyushu. Despite arriving just before closing time, I received polite service and enjoyed a delicious meal. I had one bowl of ramen with an extra serving of noodles and a beer. It wasn't too greasy, which I liked. At the end, the staff came out to thank me. No, no, the thanks should be coming from me!

I wanted to eat rich and creamy tonkotsu ramen for lunch, so I went to "Daiei Ramen Main Store". Even before entering the store, the smell of tonkotsu was enticing and stimulated my appetite. On this day, I ordered the ramen set. The ramen came with rice and pickles for 750 yen, which was a good deal. Personally, I recommend soaking the char siu pork that comes with the ramen in the soup and then eating it together with the rice. I also ordered an extra serving of noodles, so the total bill was 910 yen. It was a delicious meal.

Founded in 1973, this place has been preserving its unique flavor for 50 years now. While I appreciate modern variations of ramen, there's something special about sticking to the original taste. I thoroughly enjoyed the Kurume ramen here. The staff were energetic and made the experience even better. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I finally made it to the long-awaited Taiei that I had been curious about for a long time! The ramen had a mild Kurume style (slightly thicker noodles compared to Hakata style, and the soup was a little bit richer), and it was incredibly delicious. The horumon (offal) had the expected flavor, cooked in a soy-based sauce with a taste of stir-fried pork guts. Since I won't be able to come to Kyushu for a while, I feel a bit sad that I won't be able to enjoy this Chikugo style for some time. I will definitely come back again.

For lunch today, I went to the well-established "Daiei Ramen" in Kurume for the first time in a while. I had the Chashu Ramen with extra noodles, and on the way back, I bought some Hormone for tonight's drinking session to take out. #DaieiRamen #DaieiRamenMainStore #ChashuRamenExtraNoodles #DaieiHormone #KurumeRamen #DaieiHormoneTakeout #Takeout #KurumeLunch #KurumeGourmet #KurumeCityHigashimachi #WantToConnectWithRamenLovers #RamenPreferencesVaryByIndividual

Ramen 680 yen
Spicy bean sprouts 130 yen
Char siu appetizer 400 yen
Grilled dumplings 330 yen
Daiei Hormone 500 yen
Passing by the front of the restaurant, the smell of pork bone is strong! But once you enter the restaurant, you don't notice it at all, lol. The ramen is not as heavy as you would imagine from the smell. I started with a normal bowl, then added extra noodles and made it spicy with soy sauce and garlic sauce on the side. It was delicious. The spicy bean sprouts were also tasty, definitely a must-try. The char siu appetizer was a bit disappointing. The grilled dumplings were like mini gyoza and delicious. The hormone dish was incredibly tasty, I couldn't stop eating it. I definitely want to come back.

Visited the restaurant because it's close to my workplace and was recommended by my boss. There is no parking lot, but there is a large coin parking lot next to the shop. Show your parking ticket at the shop for a discount. I heard that the hormone (offal) is delicious, so I ordered a ramen and hormone set. I hesitated a bit because it was over 1000 yen for lunch, but oh well. The hormone and rice were served first. The ramen came soon after. I took a bite of the hormone first. It goes well with the sauce and tastes delicious. I also ordered the ramen with extra toppings and took a bite. Delicious. The staff were also very kind, so I will definitely come back again.

I suddenly received the baptism of the pork bone smell, feeling like I jumped into the heart of Kyushu. It's an old-fashioned place with a Showa era vibe that I really love. The inside of the shop was also wonderful. I tried Kurume Ramen and enjoyed it. I wonder what the difference is between Kurume Ramen and Hakata Ramen. I also had some yakitori and will finish off my visit to Kurume with gyoza tomorrow.

I feel like having ramen since yesterday, and since I am in Kurume, also known as the birthplace of tonkotsu ramen, I decided to visit "TaiEi Ramen," which has been in business for 50 years since its establishment in 1973. After leaving the west exit of the station and walking for less than 5 minutes along Hiromata Street, I found the restaurant... Upon entering the red curtain, I was greeted by the cheerful voices of the staff, and I could feel their sincere attitude towards their business, with the shiny red counter and neatly arranged condiments reminiscent of Showa-era Chinese restaurants.
There was only one customer when I visited, so I took a table and simply ordered "ramen." Although I thought about trying their specialty "TaiEi Hormone" because I felt like it wasn't enough with just ramen, I had to pass on it as I'm not a fan of pork offal. Kurume ramen is known for its rich soup made by adding more soup as you eat and its medium-thick soft noodles. I didn't choose the firmness of the noodles, but it seems to be a recent trend to ask for it when ordering. I decided to go with the standard "normal" firmness.
The soup had a deep umami flavor yet was refreshing, and I found myself quickly finishing 2 or 3 servings with the ladle. The crispy topping floating on the soup, called "karikari," is said to be a symbol of Kurume ramen shops. It is apparently fried pork back fat until crispy, and its texture added an extra delicious touch to the bowl. The noodles were made with plenty of water, giving them a chewy texture that paired well with the soup. The pork belly chashu was also tender, making it a satisfying bowl overall.
