On the first day of my trip to Kyoto, I had dinner at "Grill Kobo". My companion was like, "Huh, Western food in Kyoto?" haha, well, yeah. "Grill Kobo" is an old Western-style restaurant established in 1961 in Okazaki, Sakyo-ku, and has been preserving its taste for three generations. I remember visiting this place back when I was a student, when it was run by the second generation owner. The taste didn't seem to have changed, but maybe they were celebrating an anniversary? There were some orchids for the celebration, which made me happy. Just sitting at the table made me excited. Opening the menu made me grin. When I was a student, I used to treat myself to this place whenever I got my part-time job pay. Back then, the prices were of course ¥100-¥200 cheaper than now, right? I remember being so happy and full after ordering the omurice (medium). Today, I will fulfill the dream I had back then of having the "Kobo drink". I ordered Omurice (small), Oyster Fry, Hamburger, and half a bottle of red wine. It was the perfect order. While waiting and sipping on wine, the famous omurice arrived. Even though it was small, it had a generous 300g of rice. The demi-glace sauce was light but had a deep bitter taste. Hmm? Light. Was it always like this? But you realize the greatness as you eat through the second half. Ah, yes, this amount is just right. The omurice with its generous portion, because if the sauce is too heavy, you'll get tired of it halfway through. The sauce was well thought out. The inside of the omurice was like a ketchup rice with bits of beef offal, which was delicious on its own. Next came the Oyster Fry. The volume was no joke. I want to eat it while it's piping hot, but I'll burn my mouth with the oyster juice haha. So delicious, with a crispy and fragrant batter and juicy, plump oysters. It was no joke, and visiting in winter was a good choice. And then, the long-awaited hamburger! Adding rice would make it over ¥2000, so it was a dream food in my student days. The moment you cut into it, you'll be seriously impressed by the overflowing meat juice. You'll want to pour it straight into your mouth. The finely ground meat with a bit of texture and a well-kneaded, sticky texture. It melts in your mouth, making you sad. So delicious. We thought we could eat more as a pair, but our stomachs were full. I wanted to leave the taste of memories as they were, but I'm glad I came. It was delicious after all. Thank you for the meal. I look forward to visiting again in a different scene.

Today, I was able to take a day off and relax at home. However, staying at home all day can be a bit boring, so I decided to go out for dinner. It's Monday today, and the first restaurant that came to mind was "Grill Kobo" because they are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If I didn't go today, I would have to wait until Thursday for the next opportunity. So, I visited in the early evening during the idle time. I ordered the usual "Omelette Rice (small)" with double the demi-glace sauce, and also added the "Hamburger Steak." This combination has become my go-to recently because it offers a good quantity, quality, and cost performance. The meal was satisfying as always. I also got a "Omelette Rice (small)" and a "Vegetable Salad (small)" for my wife to take home.

I arrived at 1:30 pm and had to wait for an hour. While waiting in line, I ordered lunch and was served in about 10 minutes after sitting inside. The portion was huge with shrimp fry, pork cutlet, mini hamburger, salad, and a mountain of rice. The freshly fried food was delicious and I quickly finished it due to my hunger. My husband ordered the omurice which was a plate full of rice with plenty of meat inside. There are many other menu options available, so I would like to challenge myself to wait in line again on a day when I can resist the temptation.

I visited the restaurant at 12:00 on a weekday. It took 30 minutes to get a table. I ordered immediately upon entering and waited on the left side of the entrance. I ordered the small omurice for 740 yen and the hamburger for 2010 yen. After about 5 minutes, I was seated at a table. I waited for about 10 minutes for the food to arrive. The small omurice was said to be 350g. The flavor of the rice inside was not too strong and easy to eat. It was delicious, of course. The hamburger was fluffy and the demi-glace sauce matched perfectly, making it very delicious. It's expensive, but it's better than the restaurant I went to yesterday. I would like to come back again.

I went to Grill Kobo again today. Yesterday, I enjoyed the omurice and hamburger steak, so today I ordered the fried rice. I also added a small vegetable salad to balance out my meal. I was completely satisfied with the usual deliciousness. I am truly grateful that Grill Kobo is nearby. I plan to continue going there in the future.

I had dinner at "Grill Kobo" for the first time in about 3 weeks. It has been a while since I last visited. I ordered the "Omurice (small)" with double the demi-glace sauce, and also added a hamburger steak. My heart always longs for "Grill Kobo". It's a place where you can easily visit without needing a reservation, as the seats are never fully occupied.

By 11 o'clock, a line had already started forming. We were seated as soon as the restaurant opened, and I ordered the omurice and crab cream croquette. The omurice had green peas inside, with a traditional taste. The crab cream croquette was hot and satisfying! (Although a bit pricey...)

After a week of craving, I finally went back to "Grill Koho". I chose my recent favorite, the "Yakimeshi" (along with the usual small vegetable salad). I won't go into detail about how delicious it was since I've talked about it in previous reviews, but needless to say, it was a satisfying dish. Good food brings energy and I'm sure I'll have a fun holiday starting tomorrow. The power of food is truly amazing! Hooray!

Omelette rice (medium): 1,130 yen Lunch during a trip to Kyoto. A long-established Chinese restaurant in the Higashiyama district. There is a line of locals and tourists. The owner takes orders in advance from the line. The portion size is surprisingly large, like that of a regular restaurant. As a fan of omelette rice, I was happy with the size. The special demi-glace sauce, which is said to be prepared for 2-3 weeks, was delicious and paired well with the omelette rice. I later found out that the owner also provided a water pitcher with a difference in height (the water with more air is tastier), which made me happy.

The fried rice had a simple seasoning of salt and pepper, but the richness from the lard and the sweetness of the onions created a perfect harmony, resulting in a deep flavor. I am always impressed by this taste. Normally, there is not much crowding during dinner time on weekdays, but today there were four groups of waiting customers, resulting in a wait time of about 30 minutes. However, if I can enjoy such delicious food, the wait time is not a problem. I am grateful to have a Western-style restaurant like Grill Koho nearby.

Monday, 18:05, I visited Grill Kobo for the first time in a while. There were two groups of customers before me, and many more came after. I ordered the Hamburger Steak for 2,010 yen and the Small Omelette Rice for 740 yen with double demi-glace sauce for an additional 180 yen. I wasn't sure if I could finish it all, but I decided to go with the Omelette Rice and Hamburger Steak. At 18:18, the Omelette Rice arrived first. The ladies at the big table next to me were eyeing my Omelette Rice. Next came the Hamburger Steak. I remembered it came with mashed potatoes and spaghetti on the side. It was quite a generous portion. The demi-glace sauce and hamburger sauce had a similar taste, so I felt like I made a slight mistake, but I managed to finish it all. The waiter's famous skill of pouring water was still impressive. It was a very filling meal. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Even for adult men, the small size omurice is sufficient. The taste is actually just average for a Western-style restaurant, not particularly impressive but still tasty. It seems to be popular with both tourists and locals, but whether I would go back again even if it was nearby is a tough decision. The manager's water pouring act is entertaining.

"Grilled Ham Rice" was a new experience for me at Grill Kobo. Since they don't use ketchup, the buttery flavor and salty taste of the ham really stand out in this dish. Of course, their signature dishes like Omurice and High Rice are delicious as well, but their high quality and attention to detail are evident in more sophisticated dishes like Ham Rice."

It had been a while since I last visited. I arrived around 11:40 and there were already people waiting outside before the store opened, with 7 groups waiting in line. I prepared myself for at least an hour wait, equipped with a sun umbrella and a handheld fan to endure the scorching sun. We finally got seated at 12:30, after waiting for 50 minutes under the summer sun. Today, I ordered the shrimp fry and the omelette rice. The portion and taste were both excellent and delicious. I went to Grill Kobo again today. The flavor of the grilled rice I ordered brought back memories of a distant past. It closely resembled the pilaf from the now nonexistent Tokyo Western-style restaurant "Makoto." When I was a child, each time Makoto's delivery arrived at home, it was a small celebration. The moment the shop owner slowly lifted the lid of the bento box, the scent and steam that gently rose, and the excitement of seeing the anticipated dish, all of these feelings remain vivid in my heart. Time has passed, and "Makoto" has disappeared from the streets of Tokyo, but when I taste this grilled rice, it feels like the joyful family meals of those days are right in front of me. The vegetable salad I added for health reasons was delicious as always, but the portion of the grilled rice was truly surprising. You can even choose a large serving, but the amount in a regular serving was beyond my imagination. Grill Kobo maintains the atmosphere of a traditional Western-style restaurant while exuding its unique elegance. I sincerely hope that such a wonderful restaurant will continue for a long time to come.

On Saturday around 1 pm, there were 5 groups waiting at the restaurant, but fortunately we were able to get in after about 10 minutes. We were given a fan and a parasol, which was much appreciated. We ordered omurice and lunch. The taste was average, but the rice was a bit hard. Thank you for the meal. It cost around 3300 yen for two people.

I visited a Western-style restaurant recommended by a gourmet senior at work for the first time. Although it can get crowded during lunch, surprisingly it's a hidden gem in the evening. It was a Saturday, so I wasn't sure, but I decided to go around 7 pm. The senior recommended the hamburger, so that was a must-try. After some research, I found out that the omelette rice is a specialty, so I chose that too. And since it's a Western-style restaurant, the crab cream croquette must be delicious as well! The hamburger was juicy and tender, with the sauce being delicious too. However, the cabbage served on the side was not seasoned with dressing or anything, which was a bit disappointing. The spaghetti seemed like it was pre-cooked, as it was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. The omelette rice was quite filling, so the small size is probably enough for one person, while the medium and large sizes are more suitable for sharing. There are 4 parking spots a little further away as mentioned on the restaurant's website. If they are full, there is a coin parking lot very close by. Overall, it was a delicious meal! I visited around 5:30 pm on Friday and there was no wait. The restaurant was almost full. It seems to be a popular place. The Omurice Special is huge, weighing about 1.2 kilograms, and looks very impressive. The demiglace sauce has a strong bitterness, giving it a classic Western-style diner feel. Looking around, it seems like many groups are ordering either Omurice or fried rice. I'll try the fried rice next time!
