Location: 5 minutes walk from Kyoto City Bus stop Fuchomae Ordered: Pistachio cake I purchased a birthday cake for an acquaintance's birthday. The shop has a simple and atmospheric feel in a townhouse, and the service was very polite, leaving a great impression. The cute birthday cake made my acquaintance very happy. The taste was also impressive, with a sense of sweetness that doesn't feel overwhelming, showcasing the ingredients well. Thank you for the meal.

A small cake shop in Kyoto run by a chef from Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture. Under the guidance of Chef Yoshiharu Fujio, he touched the essence of classical French pastries, studied under Viennese pastry pioneer Haruo Yokomizo, and even trained under the maestro of French pastries, Masashi Yanagi. Finally, he opened a shop in Kyoto. "Marc Patisserie" is located in a quiet residential area lined with traditional Kyoto townhouses. The shop is not frequented by tourists or inbound visitors. As you slide open the door with a creak, you are greeted by a cool earth floor and a small showcase filled with petite gateaux. The buttery and fragrant smell of baked goods fills the air. I wanted to buy some to take home, but it was too hot outside, so I settled for some of my favorite baked goods to go. Fig Sand Cake - ¥900 A pound cake made with red wine-soaked dried figs and Darjeeling tea. "Fig" means "fig" in German. Sandkuchen is a traditional German cake that means "sand cake." It has a crumbly texture but is also moist. The subtle flavor of Darjeeling and the chewy figs make it enjoyable. It's more of a robust German pastry than a delicate French pastry, but it suits the atmosphere of Kyoto well. There is also a cafe space at the back of the shop. I had to resist buying fresh cakes due to the heat, but I look forward to spending a leisurely time there next time. Thank you for the meal.

Located about a 4-minute walk from Marutamachi Station, I visited this shop on a Saturday around 6 p.m. when I suddenly needed a souvenir. The shop has a Kyoto townhouse-style space and offers Austrian-inspired confectionery, both fresh and baked. I bought Mandelzantkuchen and other baked goods for myself. The Schokoladenziegel is a chocolate and almond butter cake, while the Mandelhonigkuchen is an almond and honey butter cake. Both are simple and heartwarming treats. This shop offers a variety of gentle-tasting sweets, and I would love to try their cakes if I have the chance.

Visited the popular patisserie "Marc Patisserie" in Maruta-cho. The Pistachio Mousse was rich and flavorful, with crushed pistachios inside for added texture. Lately, many pistachio desserts have lacked a strong pistachio flavor, but this one was properly rich. The tart shell contained a red currant jam, similar to cranberries, which paired perfectly with the pistachio. It was delicious. The attention to detail was great.

I visited a popular sweets shop in Marutamachi, Kyoto for the first time. I arrived on a Sunday at 11:30 am and was able to enter without waiting in line. The shop has a Showa-era atmosphere with an old Kyoto townhouse. I purchased a chocolate butter cake and it was delicious! The rich chocolate aroma and moist texture were great. I enjoyed it very much.

Mark Purge / Marutamachi - Tabelog 3.62 (14th August 2023) I felt a little guilty after having breakfast with my wife at a trendy cafe and leaving our children behind, so I decided to buy a cake on the way home as a way to make up for it. The shop is located near the Kyoto Prefectural Office, in an area I haven't explored much before. There are quite a few impressive houses lining the streets, and amidst them, this shop seemed to be operating in a renovated traditional Kyoto townhouse. There were four types of cakes available, with most of them almost sold out in the refrigerated case. I purchased the Topfenobst (cheesecake), Schokoladenschnitten (chocolate cake), Milchhinhinbe 3 (white chocolate cream), and Bernstein (hazelnut) for takeout. We had them after dinner, and although the cakes were very small and cute, I was a bit surprised by the size considering the price. However, the taste was undeniably good, and even the kids enjoyed them, saying "delicious delicious". The shop has a very nice atmosphere, and I thought it would be nice to sit in and enjoy the cakes and coffee if there was an option for dining in. Thank you for the meal!

Milchhirsch Himbeer was a delicious white chocolate cake with a tangy raspberry sauce. It was my first birthday cake in about 7 years and I ordered it in-store only. The cake's name was in German and the shop's name was in French, which was a fun touch.

As the weather warms up and some days get hot, I bought a cake with a refreshing sweetness. The raspberry tartness and white chocolate sweetness created an exquisite harmony in this very delicious cake. All the cakes here are delicious, so I highly recommend them.

Before the pandemic, there was also a dining area, but now they are only offering takeout. I bought a cake called "Cardinal Schnitten" that uses yuzu. It had a very strong sour taste that I had never experienced before. The area near Marutacho City Hall is actually a fierce battleground for Western-style confectionery shops.

Located a short walk from Maruta-cho, this charming little cake shop has a lovely exterior. Unfortunately, when I visited on 03/15/2023, they were not serving eat-in customers. They only had two cakes available, but oh boy, they were amazing! The Yuzu Cardinal Schnitten had a moist and fluffy cake base with a soft, slightly sweet cream and yuzu jelly in between. It was a bit tangy, but incredibly delicious. The combination of yuzu and custard was genius. I devoured it in seconds. The Chef's recommended Papageno was also a treat, with chocolate shavings, yuzu peel, and biscuit inside. It was light and delightful. I wish I had bought more cakes! They were so tasty. I'm considering going back for more while writing this review. If you like light and perfectly balanced cakes, you must try these. They may not be for those who prefer rich and heavy desserts, but they were right up my alley. Absolutely delicious!

On Saturday at 10:05, I went to Marque-page for a morning of bread, espresso, and today's specials. It had just opened. I tried the Chocoladen Schnitten for 680 yen, Apfelstrudel for 680 yen, and Pistazie for 680 yen. The presentation was cute and the taste was great, leaving me with a good impression. It's not often in my usual area, but I will definitely stop by again if I'm nearby. Thank you for the meal.

I bought the following items: ① Vint Voitl ② Castanienstetten ③ Pistatzie ④ Apfeltrpfon ⑤ Bernstein: ⑥ Maronenberg. The ① is only available on weekends. It is a choux cream with custard cream and whipped cream. The ② is a Mandelmasse made with Spanish chestnuts. The ③ is a rich pistachio tart. The ④ is an apple tart with caramel cream. The ⑤ is a classic item from this shop. The ⑥ is what we call a Mont Blanc. All of them have a gentle sweetness and are easy to eat.

I visited with no prior information and was immediately drawn in by the impressive appearance of the traditional Kyoto townhouse. The atmosphere inside was charming and not typical of a Western-style pastry shop. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the seating area was not available. The chef, Mr. Akiyama, previously ran a store in Utsunomiya and relocated to Kyoto, changing the name of the shop in the process. With a background at the renowned Patisserie Tadashi Yanagi in Ebina, he is undoubtedly a skilled professional. - Chocolarden Schneiden (680 yen): A cake with layers of chocolate biscuit and cream, offering a rich and deep chocolate flavor. - Bernstein (640 yen): An amber-colored cake with hazelnut biscuit and caramel buttercream, featuring a delightful mix of nuttiness and sweetness. - Topfenobst (580 yen): A Viennese-style cheesecake with a refreshing tanginess from the fresh cheese and cream, providing a satisfying experience.

The cakes here are always delicious and well-balanced. On a hot day, I happened to pass by and felt like having something sweet, so I decided to stop by. I looked at the display case and thought that something refreshing and fruity would be nice in the heat, so I chose this mango cake. The juicy flavor of the mango was preserved well, and the sponge cake was moist and delicious, perfectly complementing the mango. It was a high-quality treat that I really enjoyed.

Located a 5-7 minute walk from Marutamachi Station is Patisserie Marc Pierre. Situated a bit into the residential area from Marutamachi, this patisserie maintains the atmosphere of an old Japanese house. They do not recommend taking away their pastries for more than 2 hours due to their short shelf life, so it's best to enjoy them soon after purchasing. This time, I bought the popular items, Strant and Papageno. The sweets, which combine the refreshing acidity of oranges and iyokan, stand out even more with the crispy texture of the dough and the elegant sweetness of the cream. The appearance is also very beautiful, making it seem like a popular choice among women. The shop is currently only offering takeout as their eat-in option is closed, making it a great place to visit when you want to enjoy sweets at home. Thank you for the meal!

Strawberry shortcake for 680 yen. Rare cheesecake for 580 yen. Both are quite small. The rare cheesecake has a creamy texture, with sponge cake and cookie at the bottom. The strawberry shortcake has two layers of mousse and one layer of jelly, giving it a simple and rustic feel.

After passing by a cake shop on my way back from a nearby public bath, I decided to go in. I bought a chestnut cake, which was a bit small but priced at 680 yen. The taste was rich and well-balanced, with a nice chestnut aroma and sweetness. It was a very delicious cake. They have a variety of other cakes as well, so I would like to go back again soon.

I went there. It's Mr. Mark. The shop is quite hidden. Also, the door of the shop is hard to open... I thought it was closed. So I bought it. I forgot the name, but it's something like Mont Blanc. It's delicious! It has a nice aroma with just the right amount of liqueur. It's interesting how it has multiple layers. Also, the chestnuts are roughly crushed, giving it a nice texture.
