The meat I eat overwhelmingly is beef, but I also eat chicken, pork, deer, bear, wild boar, and of course, horse. In fact, when I was younger, I used to enjoy horseback riding as a hobby and even obtained a certification up to level 3 from the National Riding Club Promotion Association. So, for a while, I had reservations about eating horse meat, but I eventually switched to enjoying it deliciously, considering it as part of their destiny. That's why I decided to visit "Uma-cha" in Sangenjaya, which is known for serving fresh horse meat directly from Kumamoto. The cost ratio is said to be 50%! The interior of the restaurant has a warm, stylish, Italian-inspired atmosphere with a variety of seating options. We tried the following dishes:
- Horse sashimi assortment: loin, chouchin (rib), rump, and mane. The freshness of the horse sashimi was outstanding, and the meat was so tender and delicious.
- Potato salad with horse meat flakes: A rich and flavorful dish with a unique twist.
- Horse meat menchi-katsu: Juicy and tasty with any sauce.
- Grilled horse meat assortment: Fillet, classic cut, served with Awaji Island onions and various condiments. The medium-rare grilling was mesmerizing, and all the condiments paired perfectly with the meat.
- Grilled rice ball with horse tartare: A crispy rice ball topped with horse tartare and egg yolk. Simply amazing!
- Horse meat with uni: Marbled horse meat topped with plenty of sea urchin. A delightful combination.
For dessert, we had homemade tiramisu made with coffee shochu. The coffee shochu was a nice touch, especially when enjoyed on the rocks after the meal. The drink menu offers a variety of options, including a wide selection of sake and original drinks. This was my first time experiencing such fresh and delicious horse meat in Tokyo. Every dish was a hit, and I highly recommend this place for a satisfying meal. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience.
