I had been curious about a cake shop in Kyoto Motomachi for a long time. It has been well-reputed for a while, but I hadn't had the chance to visit until now. When I entered, there were cakes lined up in the display case, all looking delicious! Tarts lined up by the window, and baked goods at the back of the store. I was indecisive and couldn't choose.
- Location: About an 8-minute walk from Kitaoji Station North Exit. About a 2-minute walk west from Kitayama Bridge West Approach on Kitayama Street.
- Time of visit: 1:30 PM
- Weather: Sunny and hot
- Number of visitors: My wife and I
- Service: I received advice because I couldn't decide what to choose (laughs)
- Exterior: Parking lot right in front
- Interior: Stylish atmosphere
- Rating at the time of visit: 3.61
I recommend the seasonal Mont Blanc, which is currently made with Hokkaido chestnuts. It is said to gradually move south as the season progresses. I definitely want to try it. I also love tarts, so I had a slice of apple tart cut for me.
[Items purchased]
- Mont Blanc
- Apple Tart
- The Mont Blanc was creamy with a prominent sweetness. The chestnut flavor wasn't as strong as expected, but it had a nice aroma. It was delicious and energizing.
- The apple tart was so sweet and delicious. I want to eat more. I really liked it. I want to go back again. Thank you for the meal.

This has been my favorite cake shop since I was a child. It's always popular and bustling with customers. They offer delicious cakes with a gentle sweetness that isn't overwhelming. Their tarts and baked goods are also delicious. ⭐︎ Vanilla Cheesecake: A moist and fluffy souffle cheesecake with a mild sweetness. The sweet and sour strawberry sauce on top pairs well with the fluffy cake that spreads the aroma of vanilla. It's a delicious cheesecake that you could eat as much as you want. ⭐︎ Shine Muscat Tart: A tart where you can enjoy the juicy shine muscat with mascarpone and cookie dough. It's filled with plenty of muscat, and the mascarpone is refreshing without being too heavy. Despite the intense heat of this season, this is a tart that makes you want to eat it over and over again!

After a walk along the Kamogawa Sakura, I stopped by the patisserie "Comme Toujours" in Kitaoji, known for its delicious tarts at reasonable prices.
Located in Kyoto City, Kitaku, Koyamamotocho 50-1, open from 10:00 to 18:00.
I tried the Berry Tartlet and the Baked Nut Tart. The Berry Tartlet costs 500 yen and is filled with blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, tangy berry sauce, crunchy choux pastry, and lots of custard. It's not too sweet and absolutely delicious.
The Baked Nut Tart costs 440 yen and is packed with almonds, pistachios, cashews, walnuts, and macadamia nuts, topped with brown sauce and chocolate tart. It's a tart with a mature sweetness and a satisfying crunchy nut texture.
Both the berry and nut tarts come in a variety of flavors, are generous in size, and are indeed reasonably priced. It's no wonder they are so popular.

I stopped by a small shop that seemed easy to overlook. I heard that their tart cakes are delicious so I decided to give it a try. Since it was close to evening, the selection of products was limited. The cakes in the showcase caught my eye, but the tart cakes also looked delicious. The products were generally small in size. Towards the back of the shop, there were baked goods that would make great souvenirs.

I happened to stop by a cake shop that is a little off the main street, so it's easy to miss if you're driving. There is parking space in front of the shop. Inside, there are over 10 types of fluffy cakes on display. This time, I chose the black tea and strawberry cake, and the tart noire. The black tea and strawberry cake had an outstanding aroma among all the black tea cakes I've had before. The sponge was light, and the balance of the strawberry and cream was perfect. The tart noire had a mascarpone and white chocolate cream that wasn't heavy, complemented by the slightly bitter cocoa sponge, the acidity of the strawberry, and the refreshing mint. Lately, I've been eating a lot of complex and heavy cakes, so it was refreshing to enjoy the light and fluffy texture of these cakes. After paying, I saw some new tart cakes that looked delicious. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal.

Purchased baked goods as snacks for a picnic:
Earl Grey pound cake with white chocolate on top, enhancing the rich tea aroma.
Fruit pound cake with moist butter and a hint of fruit liqueur flavor.
Leaf pie with a crispy surface and a buttery and wheaty aroma, creating a happy experience.

I have been repeatedly using this bakery since before my visit in January 2022. I tried the Croissant au Beurre, Vanille, Marble, Macaron, and Florentin. The Croissant au Beurre has custard cream inside and a cookie dough on top, which creates a delicious balance of sweetness and texture. The Vanille is a plain pound cake with a rich vanilla flavor and moist texture. The Marble is a pound cake with chocolate mixed in, maintaining a great balance between vanilla and chocolate flavors. The Chocolate Macaron is light and melts in your mouth. The Florentin is packed with almond flavor and topped with chocolate, creating an interesting combination of tastes. This bakery not only changes the seasoning but also maximizes the flavors and textures of their baked goods. It's a fantastic place with delicious pastries, and I highly recommend it.

My daughter and her husband brought home some cakes for a remote dinner party. It's been a while since I had cake, and they look delicious. There's a strawberry shortcake and a souffle cake, I think. We split them in half, my daughter-in-law and I. The strawberry shortcake has a bit of custard in the sandwiched part, with just the right amount of sweetness and the tartness of the strawberries is so delicious. This one is a classic. The cheesecake also has blueberries and strawberries on top, and it's a refreshing cake with a smooth texture. Oh, these cakes are really delicious...

Patisserie Comptoir is located an 8-10 minute walk from Kitaoji Station. It is a small, bright sweets shop offering a variety of fresh and baked sweets, perfect for souvenirs. They are open on weekends as well, making it a great stop during sightseeing in Kyoto. We purchased the popular Tart Noir and the Black Tea and Strawberry Cake. The Tart Noir combines mascarpone brulee with strawberries and white chocolate, while the Black Tea and Strawberry Cake features layers of black tea sponge and cream. Both desserts had a gentle, not overly sweet taste. When you visit the Kitaoji area, be sure to check out this place. Itadakimasu!

I was drawn in by the Parisian-like exterior and decided to stop by. They sell baked goods and cakes. I bought some baked goods, but they were so delicious that I ate them before taking a photo. I don't remember the name of the cake either. However, I do remember that both the Tarte Tatin (probably) and Millefeuille were authentically made and delicious. It's a bit far, but I would like to visit this place again. (Definitely worth a revisit)

While biking around Kitayama, I stumbled upon a highly-rated restaurant on Tabelog. I decided to get a takeout of their apple tart. It had a crispy and light taste, and they had various other tart flavors available as well. This shop seems to be well-known for their delicious baked goods. Thank you for the meal!

The tart had a cocoa-flavored cake base, which was delicious overall, but I was disappointed with the nuts. They didn't taste bad, but I couldn't help but think they would have been even better if they had been roasted. Sorry if they were already roasted...

I walked from Kitaoji Station. I visited on a holiday afternoon. They had bread, tarts, cakes, cookies, financiers, etc. Fig baked tart 400 yen + tax: A crispy pie crust with a soft tart on top. It has a nice aroma. Raisin brioche 350 yen: Lots of raisins. Good buttery scent. It was very delicious.

Today, I visited a popular Western confectionery shop located on Kitayama Street in Kyoto's Kita Ward. The shop, called Comme Toujours, is known for its cakes and baked sweets. The store was bustling with young women who love sweets. The display case was filled with shortcakes, Mont Blanc, Bavarois, tarts, and more. It seems like a shop that only sells items in-store. They also had a wide variety of baked sweets, perfect for gifts. After some deliberation, I decided to purchase some baked sweets and a tart to take home. Let's dig in!
- Nut Tart: This tart was packed with almonds, peanuts, and other nuts. The nuts were coated in sweet caramel, shining like jewels. The crunchy texture of the nuts was delightful. It was just sweet enough, and I enjoyed the crispy texture of the tart crust.
- Orange and Chocolate Tart: This tart had a beautiful visual with orange slices and a hint of mint. The tart crust was also crispy. I savored the rich chocolate flavor along with the refreshing taste of orange.
- Pando Genoise: This butter cake was generously topped with thinly sliced almonds. The crunchy texture of the almonds was enjoyable, and the rich almond flavor spread in my mouth. The baked sweets were delicious, just as the reviews suggested. It was a lovely Western confectionery shop.

A cake shop with a great reputation, especially known for their delicious tarts. The summer fruit tart with mango was particularly satisfying. I couldn't decide, so I ended up buying four tarts. We shared them and they were all very tasty. Unfortunately, they were in the middle of making Mont Blanc, so I couldn't get it this time. I definitely want to try it next time! They were also out of the nut tart, so I'll have to go back for that too.

There were plenty of baked goods available, but this time, I purchased a Tart Tatin as a souvenir for my friend. It came with cheese cream which complemented the moist apples perfectly, making it delicious. The bottom part had a firm tart crust, providing a satisfying texture. I would love to try various cakes if given the chance.

Every year, our family buys a cake for Hina Matsuri. This year, we visited this shop for the first time. We arrived around 2 pm, with one customer already inside. The shop is small with parking space for one car in front. As soon as you enter, there are bread and tarts. In the display case, there are various cakes. Towards the back right side of the shop, there are cookies, macarons, madeleines, and financiers. Everything looks delicious. After careful consideration, we purchased Tart Noir, Biscuit Roll, Gateau Chocolat, Dekopon Tartlet, and Black Tea and Strawberry Cake. The elegant lady at the shop packed them carefully in a box. After dinner, we enjoyed them as a family, sharing each variety. The delicately crafted cakes were all subtly sweet with distinct flavors. While I like adult cakes with plenty of alcohol, cakes that can be enjoyed by children and the elderly make me feel happy. I want to visit this shop seasonally. I found a great shop!
