The world is still in the middle of the Bon holiday on a weekday Wednesday and I felt like eating eel. After contacting several places, many were closed for summer vacation. I called and confirmed the operation, then decided to visit "Funajou Fukushima-an" in Osaka Fukushima without a reservation around 11:30. Luckily, we were seated right away at the counter on the first floor for an early lunch. We both had the eel rice bowl set with soup for 2,700 yen each. The eel was deliciously grilled by the side entrance with Kishu Binchotan charcoal, giving it a crispy and tender texture. You can choose between "liver" or "yuba" for the soup, and both of us chose liver. The sauce was to my liking, and the amount of sauce was just right. I really enjoyed the Kansai-style grilled eel. I would love to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal. During our meal, a few groups of customers with lunch reservations arrived. It might be best to make a reservation before visiting.

The Kansai-style eel grilled with Kishu Binchotan charcoal has a crispy and fragrant surface, while the flesh is tender and juicy, making it incredibly delicious. We ordered the premium Unagi Ju (1.5 eels) for ¥6,200 and were extremely satisfied. You can choose between liver or clam soup to accompany the dish. The eel has a rich flavor, so the light and gentle broth of the soup complements it perfectly.

Ordered the top-quality unagi-don and umaki (forgot to take a photo). The taste lived up to the hype. Despite being light, the satisfaction level was incredible. The umaki had a richness that didn't lose to the eel. It's good to fill up at the first place and start drinking at the second place. Also, since the restroom is shared here, I recommend going there from the second place onwards.

Let's build up some stamina! I went to Funasada for eel and chose Hitsumabushi. It arrived pretty quickly. It was fragrant, well grilled, thick and had a nice texture. It was delicious, but if you want to be satisfied, you might need to order the higher quality options, such as Jo or Tokujo. Thank you for the meal.

Eel is definitely more of a Kansai style dish. The eel was delicious and the clam soup was also very tasty. I would love to eat to my heart's content without worrying about the price. It seems like they use domestic eel now, so it's not cheap, but I remember back in the day on the 27th of every month, they had an Eel Day special where you could get an eel bowl for around 680 yen. It may not have been as good as it is now, but the eel was still delicious.

On a regular day, I arrived at Shin-Osaka at 13:00, just in time for the last order at 13:30. I barely made it in time to enter the restaurant. There is a counter on the first floor and it seems there is also a second floor. I debated between getting the regular eel dish or the premium one, but since I wanted to try Kansai-style cuisine and had done my research, I decided to go for the top-notch eel dish priced at 6200 yen, which came with one and a half eels. When asked if I wanted eel liver or clams, I chose the liver. After a while, a large lacquered box was presented to me. Upon opening it, I saw thick, crispy eel on top of rice. The eel had a nice charred surface and the skin was crispy and fragrant. I savored the fatty eel with the rice, which was very satisfying. I usually ask for less rice when eating eel, but this time I didn't need to. The restaurant has been around for 27 years, and it was run by the son who grilled the eel and the mother who served as a waitress. It had a very cozy and friendly atmosphere. The evening menu seemed to offer a variety of delicious dishes as well. If you want to experience authentic Kansai-style cuisine, this is the place to go. You can enjoy both the traditional ambiance and the delicious flavors. It was a delightful meal! Thank you for the feast.

When I visited Osaka for work, I made a reservation for 7:30 pm during the Golden Week. I ordered eel rice bowl, eel roll, and grilled eel liver. The eel I ate at this eel restaurant had a fluffy texture and a crispy skin, which I enjoyed. The prices were very reasonable, and I was satisfied with the cost performance.

【Fluffy Unagi Don Made Only by Grilling!】On the first day of Golden Week, a Saturday at 1:00 PM with a reservation. The restaurant was quite empty on this day. We were seated in the second-floor tatami room. This unagi restaurant serves "Kansai-style" unagi, which is rarely seen in Kansai. What sets it apart is the amazing skill of the chefs who are able to create a fluffy texture without using the steaming process, just by grilling alone! - Special Unagi Don (one whole eel) ¥4250 - Premium Hitsumabushi (eel over rice with condiments) ¥4650 The unagi, with its unexpectedly fluffy texture achieved through grilling alone, was delicious! The sauce, which is not too sweet, brings out the true flavor of the eel. The hitsumabushi was also excellent, with a broth that does not overpower the eel but complements it perfectly. While it may lack a strong punch, this lovely unagi restaurant truly brings out the deliciousness of domestic eel.

First visit to a famous eel restaurant in Fukushima. Ordered the special eel rice bowl. Waited for about 15 minutes before it arrived. The eel was crispy in the Kansai style, and when combined with the sweet and salty sauce, it was an exquisite deliciousness. The fact that a whole eel dish costs over 5,000 yen is uncommon in the center of Osaka, I think.

I visited the restaurant at 7:30 pm on a weekday. I always noticed the delicious smell coming from it as I passed by. Finally, I had the chance to come in. From the outside, only the counter was visible, but there was also a tatami room on the second floor with about five sunken kotatsu tables. Today, it was empty, and we were the only ones on the second floor, so we were able to enjoy our conversation without worrying about disturbing others. We started with sake-steamed clams as an appetizer. It was lightly seasoned with a delicious broth, and I ended up drinking it all. The eel grilled over charcoal was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The sauce was not too sweet, allowing the delicate flavor of the eel to shine through. The staff's service was pleasant, and we were able to relax. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Located on the south side of JR Fukushima Station, about halfway along Jyosei Shindo, is an eel restaurant. After passing by the line at "Moeyo MenSuke," you'll arrive after a short walk. Established in 1996, the restaurant exudes the atmosphere of a long-standing establishment. I ordered the three-piece eel bowl for 2,700 yen. You can choose between liver soup or clam soup. This time, I opted for the clam soup. After a short wait, the eel bowl arrived, with a wonderful sear on the surface. It looked delicious already. Being Kansai-style, the surface was crispy, with thin and fragrant skin. I prefer Kansai-style as it brings out the flavor of the eel more strongly. The sauce was light and flavorful. The taste of the rice underneath was also excellent. In Kobe, most eel restaurants serve Kanto-style eel, with only "Aoyagi" offering Kansai-style. If you want to try Kansai-style eel, you'll need to go all the way to Osaka, such as "Honke Shibafu" in Yodoyabashi. Next time, I'll go for the premium eel bowl with a whole eel.

Had lunch at "Funajou Fukushimaan" in Fukushima, a restaurant that serves eel grilled in the Kansai style without steaming. I ordered the special eel rice bowl. The eel was crispy and delicious, with just the right amount of chewiness. The sauce was not too thick or overwhelming. The rice was cooked perfectly. #FunajouFukushimaan #eel #FukushimaLunch #OsakaLunch

【Received Menu】 - Special Deluxe Eel Bowl (¥4,100) tax included 【Impressions】 I love this restaurant where you can enjoy the fragrant Kansai-style eel. Personally, I prefer Kansai-style eel over Kanto-style. The surface grilled with charcoal is crispy and has an irresistible aroma. After the crunchy texture, the fluffy eel meat spreads in the mouth, and the high-quality fat melts in. The sauce, which is essential for an eel restaurant, is perfectly balanced, not too sweet or too spicy. I visited close to the Saturday of the Ox Day, but eel is definitely more delicious in winter since it is in season. I'll revisit in winter for sure. Check it out if you get a chance!

Fukushima ◇ Eel ◇ [Fukushima 5-chome, Fukushima-ku] Located in a narrow alley west of Naniwa-suji, a 3-minute walk south from JR Fukushima Station, is "Funajou Fukushima-an." Just in time for the midsummer Day of the Ox, eel restaurants are bustling. Arrived in the evening just as they opened, made a reservation for a table with a sunken hearth on the second floor (a bit stuffy as the air conditioning wasn't working well yet). Started with a beer. The five sunken hearth tables were fully booked within 30 minutes. The menu was not fully listed, making it hard to read, with some items posted on the wall. Items consumed included: ◆ Eel roll (good balance of egg and eel) ◆ Grilled eel liver (unfortunately not skewered) ◆ Grilled white eel (light with wasabi soy sauce) ◆ Grilled eel (sweet sauce) ◆ Top hitsumabushi (one whole eel, generous portion) ◆ Clam sake-steamed (the best dish) ◆ Firefly squid simmered (a good way to end the meal) Also had: ■ Yoshino cedar barrel sake ■ Akakirishima on the rocks ■ Mitsuyama on the rocks Despite the crowd, the eel was served promptly within 30 minutes. Expected the eel to be a bit livelier, but overall, it was a satisfying meal. "Thank you for the feast."

There is a restaurant known for its grilled eel. The reviewer decides to visit the restaurant for lunch, having not eaten anything all day. They order a premium boxed meal and a special local sake, enjoying the delicious grilled eel with a perfect balance of flavor and texture. They are impressed by the high quality of the eel and the richness of the sauce, as well as the fresh and flavorful soup with liver. The reviewer expresses their preference for eel over sushi or steak, savoring every bite without hesitation. For more details on the dishes, refer to the accompanying photos or comments section. My daughter, who loves eel, and I had a long-awaited lunch at the restaurant she chose, Funasada Fukushima An, which serves Kansai-style eel dishes. We enjoyed the following dishes: Funasada set meal for ¥4,600 - kabayaki (eel grilled with soy-based sauce), umaki (eel omelette), uzaku (eel and cucumber vinegar dish), Hachiman roll, changed to hamaguri clam, rice, pickles. Special Hitsumabushi (eel over rice with soup) for ¥4,100. I wanted to try various eel dishes, so I focused on the kabayaki, while my daughter enjoyed the Special Hitsumabushi. The kabayaki was perfectly grilled, with a crispy surface and tender inside, complemented by a not overly sweet sauce that enhanced the eel's flavor. The umaki had a delicate and fluffy texture with a subtly sweet sauce that paired well with the eel. Uzaku combined hot grilled eel with cold cucumber vinegar, creating a delightful contrast in temperature and flavor. The Hachiman roll featured crunchy burdock root and flavorful eel, a great combination. The hamaguri clam soup was also delicious, allowing us to fully savor the eel. My daughter was sad when she finished her meal because it was so delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Entered the restaurant on Saturday at 12:37 PM. There is a second floor but the details are unknown. Left at 12:55 PM. Had the Hitsumabushi (eel with liver) and grilled liver for a total of 2600 yen plus an additional 870 yen. It was delicious, with a crispy Kansai-style texture, firm rice, and a not overly sweet sauce. The eel itself and the grilling were both good, and in terms of cost performance, it was worth the price. I look forward to another meal there someday. Thank you for the meal.

While wandering around Fukushima-ku, I happened to come across Funatei, an eel restaurant. I wasn't sure what to eat, but it turned out to be a delicious find. They serve Kansai-style crispy eel over rice, and they also have a variety of other dishes on their menu. The eel over rice was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

This time, I walked from Shin-Fukushima Station and stopped by this restaurant. It was around 18:40 and there were no customers... It seems like it's not very popular... I sat at the counter in the back and ordered an eel rice bowl. It was served in about 7 minutes... The eel was thick and delicious... Eel is definitely better in autumn... The sauce was on the sweet side and a bit rich... The broth was tasty with a strong dashi flavor. I paid 1800 yen in cash and left.

I had surfed through Tabelog in the past and saved a unagi (eel) restaurant. Since my children were staying over at their grandparents' house for summer vacation, my husband and I decided to visit the restaurant. It was the day of the "Doyo no Ushi no Hi" (Midsummer Day of the Ox), so we met up after work. Luckily, my husband had lined up early for us. Just as he got in line, they announced that they were done taking orders for the day. We barely made it in time. Lucky us! It seems everyone has the same idea on Doyo no Ushi no Hi. The restaurant was quite busy, especially with takeout orders. We waited for about 1.5 hours in total - 1 hour outside and 30 minutes inside. We were exhausted from waiting, but the food was undeniably delicious. I learned that it's not a good idea to casually visit an unagi restaurant on Doyo no Ushi no Hi. I wanted to have a beer to relax after the long wait, but due to COVID restrictions at the time, they were not serving beer. I'm not sure about the current situation. Whether I revisit this restaurant or try another unagi place, I don't think I'll be going on Doyo no Ushi no Hi in the future. This review turned out to be more of a lesson learned from an impulsive decision rather than a typical food review.
