When you go down to the underground, you will find a large counter where the chef is working briskly in front of you. It is quite enjoyable to watch the cooking while waiting. The chef is the first head chef of "Il Boccalone" in Ebisu, so he has been in Japan for quite some time. However, or rather because of this, he makes authentic Italian regional dishes that Japanese people think of. It's not too niche, which is good. It may be a bit difficult to casually visit during these times, but I would like to visit this place regularly to casually go downstairs, have a few glasses of wine at the counter, enjoy a few appetizers, and then leave.

I enjoyed a course meal here. It was fun to watch the chef prepare dishes like pasta, stretching and cutting the dough right in front of me at the counter. The chef worked alone but with amazing efficiency, finishing each dish one after another. The flavors were delicious, and the use of ingredients was truly Italian, making me feel like I was on a trip to Italy.

Lunch on a whim. The entrance door was slightly ajar, so I asked the staff, "Is it open?" and they replied, "Please come in." Even though the staff was standing right in front of the door, they did not open it for me. Inside, the staff was unfriendly, and the atmosphere was very uncomfortable. It felt like I was not welcome at all. I had limited time that day, so I only ordered pasta. I was told to order drinks through a QR code, but despite clearly being a first-time customer, there was no explanation about the drinks (or the food menu, for that matter). The taste was average. (The uncomfortable atmosphere made it feel like the taste was halved.) Overall, it was very uncomfortable.

At the counter, you can watch Chef Franco quietly preparing dishes. Instead of lunch mats, thick wooden boards are used, which is unique. Everything was delicious. It seems to be a family-run business. The chef, an Italian man, runs the place by himself with two servers. The lady server in the front is a bit intimidating. She gives off a foreigner wife vibe and can be scary when taking orders. Despite the lack of servers for a full house, the atmosphere inside the restaurant is busy. Service might be a bit lacking, but the food is simply delicious. I would definitely go back again.

Having Saturday lunch with friends. We went to a restaurant located in a building facing Platinum Street, also known as Omotesando West Street. With a reliable friend by my side, we left the wine and food choices to him. As a result, we ordered two appetizers, three pasta dishes, and two main dishes. We started with rosé wine, then moved on to white, and finished with a full lineup of red wine. Everything was delicious, and we couldn't stop eating. Before we knew it, almost 3 hours had passed since we entered the restaurant. We were recommended to try the carbonara as a final dish, and it was a perfect way to end the meal. We ate so much that it felt like a meal for both lunch and dinner. It was quite a luxurious experience, but sometimes it's nice to indulge like this. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

In late October, during a break from work in the neighborhood, I had lunch at a restaurant located just a 3-minute walk from Shirokanedai Station, right by the Shirokanedai intersection on Platinum Street, in the basement of a building with a large Italian flag displayed in front. Lately, I had been eating too much, so I opted for a light pasta lunch. Weekday Limited Pasta Lunch ¥1500- Mixed Salad Focaccia Pasta Spaghetti with homemade sausage and mushrooms Tomato cream sauce with tiger prawns Pappardelle (+700) Coffee I enjoyed a delicious mixed salad with a tasty dressing, and soon after, a piping hot plate of pasta was brought to me. It was a generous portion. I tried the spaghetti with homemade sausage and mushrooms, which was in a cream-based sauce. I had imagined it would be in a tomato sauce or olive oil base, so it was different from what I expected. However, it was incredibly delicious! The sausage was cooked like ground meat, with a hint of herbs and nutmeg spice that added a refreshing touch to the rich cream sauce. The abundance of mushrooms provided a nice texture, making the pasta easy to eat until the end. The tiger prawns in tomato cream sauce, which I splurged a bit on, were also delicious. The flat noodles had a good chewiness, and the sauce, being tomato-flavored cream-based, had a tangy taste that balanced the richness well. The large tiger prawns added a nice touch, and for an additional ¥700, it was worth it. The evening menu offers pasta for over ¥2000, so the weekday limited offer of a cafe included for ¥1500 is a great deal. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal! A restaurant located in the basement of a building along Platinum Street. Upon entering, you will see an L-shaped open kitchen counter. The lighting is more subdued than the photos suggest, creating an elegant atmosphere. There is a showcase displaying the day's ingredients, adding to the enjoyment. Inside the counter, there is only one Italian chef. The chef was invited to open Il Boccalone about 30 years ago. The pasta lunch starts at 1,500 yen, including coffee afterwards. --Salad-- The vinaigrette's balanced acidity and the gentle saltiness of the sausage are good. --Bread-- Fragrant and delicious. --Sicilian-style Spaghetti with Sardines and Fennel-- Fennel, also known as finocchio, is beautifully presented with a silvery sheen. The dried sardines used give it a strong flavor that may leave you thirsty. I was surprised by this. The chef is from Rome, so I should have chosen a dish closer to that rather than Sicilian. --Coffee-- In addition to coffee, you can choose from espresso, chamomile, and more. The coffee has a slightly acidic taste rather than bitterness.

First visit since moving from Shinjuku Gyoen to Shirokane. The seats were fully booked with reservations. It seems to have already become a local favorite, as several couples who dropped by without a reservation looked disappointed and had to leave. I chose the lunch course, each dish was generously portioned and truly delicious. It was nice to see an increased variety of desserts. As always, they had a great selection of rare Italian wines that left me very satisfied. It's also convenient that it's within reach from both Shirokane and Meguro!

Franco Cantoni, who came to Japan as the first head chef of Ebisu's "Il Boccalone". He opened his own restaurant in Shinjuku Gyoen called "Ilbatticuore", and in the spring of 2019, he relocated to Shirokanedai. The new location is much more stylish than his Shinjuku days. The open kitchen is visible from the counter seats, creating a sense of presence. Lunch is only available on weekends and holidays. The 3,500 yen prix-fixe course offers a high degree of freedom in choosing your dishes. Of course, you can also order from the a la carte menu at night. For starters, I had the "Chef's assorted appetizers". It included pistachio pate, caponata, and sea bream carpaccio. The sea bream was firm and fresh. My companion had the "Antipasto of the day", which was like an Italian-style char siu. It was a bit bland and forgettable. The bread was disappointing, dry and tasteless. For pasta, I ordered the "Spaghetti with seafood tomato sauce". It was decent but had a homemade taste that was easy to replicate. I should have paid extra for the "Pappardelle with shrimp tomato cream sauce". My companion had the gnocchi, made with purple potatoes. It was flavorful and delicious, especially with the truffle cream sauce. For my main course, I had the "Herb-roasted olive pork shoulder". The flavors were vague and the pork had a lingering smell. My companion had the "Sautéed swordfish with onions, olives, and Livorno-style tomatoes". The strong tomato flavor overpowered the fish. The dessert of the day, especially the strawberry tart, was excellent. I finished with an espresso. Overall, the meal cost 3,500 yen. The dishes were tasty but lacked a clear focus, making them forgettable. It was neither modern nor rustic Italian cuisine. It was just decent Italian food without a standout feature.

Start with a toast with sparkling wine. This is an Italian restaurant, so they mainly serve Franciacorta sparkling wine. The fine and powerful bubbles and rich aroma also stimulate your appetite. The menu is mainly based on daily recommendations. From Antipasti (appetizers) to Primi (pasta) and Secondi (main dishes) are clearly listed. On this day, we had fried zucchini flowers, homemade bresaola and mushroom salad, and a fish dish from the antipasti. We also tried a special dish of white asparagus and eggs, which was not on the menu, but it was simple yet delicious with plenty of cheese. The price range is around 1,500 yen for appetizers, 2,000 yen for pasta, and around 3,000 yen for main dishes. If you ask, they can always serve the authentic carbonara dish that is not listed on the menu. This place is versatile for various occasions, so I recommend trying it at least once.

Grappolo, a popular restaurant in Shirokanedai, closed down and this new restaurant opened in its place. It offers a kind of Italian cuisine that is not too casual like Dal, Bilbante, or Jokondo, nor too fancy like Senso or La Sosta, but something in between - a sophisticated Italian dining experience for adults. The chef is from Rome and has experience as a head chef at Rabis Botcha, known for delicious stews, pasta, meats, and desserts. The restaurant aims to offer delicious food in a casual yet slightly upscale setting. Located underground along Platinum Street, it's not a place you stumble upon, so the number of customers is still low. If you're looking for a place to enjoy a slightly better pasta than what you'd get in a set course, this is the place to go. The counter seating is perfect for a date. They offer a decent selection of wines, mainly from Piedmont and Tuscany.
