Around 3:00 p.m. on a regular day. There was no line and I was able to enter smoothly. The interior of the shop is not very spacious but has a nice old-fashioned feel.
Ordered items:
-Three-colored ohagi
-Shiruko sake ohagi
All three ohagi had a subtly restrained sweetness, making them easy to eat even after a meal. Among them, the highest-grade o-nanko bean paste used in the ohagi was shiny with grains and juicy, with a taste similar to zenzai rather than the overly sweet red bean paste. It is my No. 3 favorite ohagi in Kyoto.
The uruchimai rice inside was smooth and soft, blending perfectly with the softness of the bean paste, making it truly exquisite! The shiruko sake ohagi, which I thought might be too sweet, turned out to have a very refreshing sweetness with azuki bean sherbet that you can drink easily. If you go to Kyoto, I highly recommend visiting this place!

Located in the middle of Ninen-zaka slope, it might be a bit hard to find. It has a calm atmosphere and wasn't crowded on weekdays, so we were able to get in quickly. After wandering around places like Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera, we decided to order shaved ice, which was really delicious - not too sweet and very refreshing!

I also visited "Kasagiya," where Takehisa Yumeji frequented, and tried the Kameyama (azuki bean mochi) and Isobeyaki. The interior of the shop is adorned with Yumeji's paintings, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. It's a place where you can feel the Showa era. The mochi is small and very easy to eat. It's recommended for when you're feeling a little hungry. The quality of the azuki beans is quite high.

Finally, I was able to come to Kasagiya in Ninen-zaka. I always couldn't come because it was always after Gion Nanba, where my husband makes delicious sweets for me. I looked at the menu and decided what to eat that day. Although I was tempted by the shaved ice for a moment, I chose the Kasagiya 3-piece set with Sanjiki Hagi-no-mochi, Kameyama, and Isomaki. The Sanjiki Hagi-no-mochi has both strained and coarse red bean paste, and the red bean paste is just delicious. The soybean flour is also fragrant and nice. Kameyama will be irresistible for those who love red beans. You can eat plenty of delicious simmered red beans. It's also fun when the hidden mochi appears at the bottom after finishing the simmered red beans. The Isomaki was carefully grilled that day with mochi on a charcoal brazier. It's so strange and unbearable that there is no line at this shop that was frequented by Takehisa Yumeji.

#Three-color Ohagi 750 yen
Smooth red bean paste / Dainagon (large grain red bean) / Kinako (soybean flour)
The red bean paste is very smooth, the Dainagon is large and juicy, and the Kinako has a fragrant aroma of freshly ground beans. Each one emphasizes the aroma and flavor of the beans more than sweetness.
#Ice Shirokoshi with Red Bean Paste and Shiratama (white rice dumplings)
Two white rice dumplings with plenty of smooth red bean paste at the bottom. Delicious green tea is free for refills. The pricing is very fair and I regret not stopping by before.

I had matcha with Kameyama. When I tried ohagi before, I thought it was too sweet, but Kameyama has just the right amount of sweetness and plenty of big azuki beans to satisfy you. After trying Kameyama here, I feel like I don't need to eat other sweet red bean pastes anymore. It's so delicious that I definitely want to stop by when I go to Kyoto.

My wife and I went to this sophisticated sweet shop in Ninen-zaka and were amazed. My wife had ohagi, and I chose baked mochi! You can also order matcha for an additional charge, but the regular tea was delicious! The mochi was chewy and cut easily with chopsticks. I ended up having seconds. Thank you for the meal.

The stable rice cake shop. Today, I had my favorite rice cakes and it was a happy day. The outside is bustling with tourists, but as soon as you enter here, the atmosphere changes and the flow of time becomes quiet and relaxed. Rice cakes with plenty of sweet bean paste inside the chewy rice grains, yellow rice cakes dusted with yellow powder, and moist and smooth sweet bean paste rice cakes. Each with a different texture, the rice cakes at this shop are truly exceptional. The thin tea served alongside is also exquisite. Despite being so delicious, it's only 750 yen. It's a very reasonable price for a prime location in a tourist area.

It's been a while since I visited Kasagiya. Today is cold and I hesitated between Ozen and this Ohagi, but I decided to go with the Ohagi after all. It's a snowy day and there are a few tourists outside. Inside the shop, the sound of boiling tea and ticking clock creates a quiet and comfortable atmosphere. The three-color Ohagi with large red beans, smooth red bean paste, and white bean paste is always delicious and makes me want to come back for more. This is the only shop I keep coming back to. Thank you for the warm tea and delicious Ohagi today.

I visited the sweet shop Kasagiya for the tenth time today. As usual, I ordered the three-color ohagi. As the weather is getting colder, the ohagi has switched from kinako to white anko. The white anko and koshian are both smooth and velvety, made with large, tenderly cooked red beans. Each ohagi is so delicious that it's hard to pick a favorite. The tea served with it complements the flavors perfectly.

It feels like visiting an old countryside shop with a great interior. Located on Ninen-zaka, it's a special place where you can forget time in the hustle and bustle and indulge in your favorite ohagi. I was surprised by the large red bean at first, but it was incredibly delicious and addictive. The three flavors were sweet, but the large red bean ohagi I took home was incredibly tasty. When I visited after a long time, there were a lot of tourists returning. I hope the shops that closed due to COVID will also make a comeback.

While I knew that ohagi was popular, it was too hot so I ordered shaved ice! The mother was very cheerful and cute. The shop had various masks displayed and had a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. The shaved ice had matcha ice with condensed milk topping, and the matcha flavor was rich and matched well with the milk, making it delicious until the end. It was the best shaved ice that cooled down my heated body. Of course, the ice was fluffy!

Established in 1914, the longstanding sweet shop "Kasagiya" was visited. Located just off Sanneizaka and near Ninenzaka, next to the former residence of the artist Takehisa Yumeji, the shop is adorned with Yumeji's calligraphy, showing his affection for the place. Sitting inside, the hustle and bustle of Ninenzaka can be faintly heard in the distance. Despite its hidden location, the shop seems to go unnoticed by tourists, making it a perfect escape from the crowds. It's truly impressive that they have been in business for over 100 years in the ever-changing Ninenzaka area. The three-color ohagi (¥750) is a popular menu item, featuring three types of ohagi: grainy sweet bean paste, smooth sweet bean paste, and roasted soybean flour. Starting with the smooth sweet bean paste, it was incredibly silky and moist, blending perfectly with the rice. The sweetness was subtle and elegant, satisfying even a fan of grainy sweet bean paste like myself. Moving on to the roasted soybean flour, it lacked both sweetness and saltiness, allowing the nutty flavor of the soybean flour to shine. With a thin layer of sweet bean paste inside, the roasted soybean flour was not overly sweet, creating a perfect balance. Finally, the grainy sweet bean paste was made with large grains of red bean paste. It was moist with a generous amount of liquid, yet the red bean paste itself remained intact. The skin had a crisp texture, adding to the overall experience. All three were delicious!

Established in the 3rd year of Taisho era. I've lost count of how many times I've been here. Whenever I visit Kyoto, I always make sure to stop by Kasagiya. I usually order ohagi, but this time I tried Kameyama for the first time. I heard that Kasagiya uses the highest quality Tamba Dainagon azuki beans, and each bean has a strong presence. The azuki beans are generously piled up, with grilled mochi inside. I've always wanted to try Kameyama, and now my wish has come true. I savor the azuki beans to the fullest, while enjoying the grilled mochi. It's amazing. The slightly burnt taste of the grilled mochi goes so well with the azuki beans. It's irresistible. Ohagi seems to be popular, but as a fan of Kasagiya, I also highly recommend Kameyama. It was delicious once again today. Thank you for the meal.

Located near Kiyomizu-dera, a popular spot in Kyoto, is a favorite sweets shop that has been standing on Ninen-zaka for a quarter of a century. Despite the trendy new dessert shops opening around Gion Shijo, this shop maintains its traditional appearance and menu, now run by the son and his wife. Their specialty is the exquisite "Ohagi" made with high-quality Azuki beans from Tanba. I visited this time for their "Three-color Hagi Mochi" which includes "Tsubuan," "Koshian," and "Kinako." The Ohagi is always freshly made to order and truly delicious. In addition, during the summer, they also offer "Kakigori" (shaved ice). I tried the "Ice Uji Shiratama" which is a Kyoto-style shaved ice with five white dumplings and Uji matcha. It's not the trendy airy ice, but a traditional and delicious treat. In the ever-evolving world of sweets and in a top tourist destination like Kyoto, shops that continue to stick to their traditional roots like this one are truly valuable. I hope they continue to offer their unchanged sweet treats on my next visit.

I love the ohagi from Kasagiya so much. I crave it so much that I come regularly to eat it. From the white bean paste ohagi in winter to the kinako (soybean flour) ohagi, which also has bean paste inside. There is more bean paste than rice, making it a must-try for bean paste lovers. I have never found an ohagi that surpasses Kasagiya's, that's how much I love it.

Near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, by the stone steps of Ninen-zaka, there is a sweet shop called "Kasagiya" in Kyoto. Established in 1914, this shop is said to have been visited by the painter Takeshita Yumeji, and it still retains its old-fashioned charm. From inside the shop, you can see the staircase outside the entrance, allowing you to watch people going up and down without feeling crowded. On this day, I tried the "tricolor ohagi," which is small but generously filled with sweet bean paste. The paste is made from Tanba Dainagon beans, cooked to perfection with a refined sweetness. Each grain of sweet bean paste was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Each individual assertion is strong, whether it's the smooth red bean paste, the coarse red bean paste, or the rice cake itself. The balance of all these elements is wonderful. Each grain, each bite, is carefully made, which is why it should be savored carefully. Ah... it's finished already. I always think that every time I come. Thank you for the meal. I will come again.
