Located off Teramachi Street in Kyoto, this soba restaurant caught my attention as there was a line outside on a Sunday. I decided to try their lunch set (1300 yen) which was only available during lunchtime. The portion size of the non-soba items was small, making me wonder if they should reduce the variety and increase the portion size instead. The soba itself was good, and they served soba-yu from the beginning. The restaurant was not busy on weekdays, so I wondered if it catered more to tourists. They had a good selection of alcohol available as well.

Soba Rojina is a popular soba restaurant in Kyoto. There was a long line outside, but I waited and finally got to eat there. Once inside, there were empty seats available. When I was called to be seated, it was right after the person in front of me left. The mori soba was 900 yen. The lunch set seemed to be sold out, but the soba came out quickly. The thin and short soba noodles had an average taste. The slow service and lack of efficiency in cleaning up by the staff caused the long line, which made me think that in a normal restaurant, I wouldn't have had to wait. Overall, it was a decent meal.

As I was passing by, I searched and found that a trusted reviewer gave a high rating. I decided to try it out. It was scorching hot, so I ordered the cold duck soba. The soba noodles with duck and sudachi were a bit unconventional, but the saltiness and acidity were just what my body needed in the hot weather, and it was delicious.

I made a reservation and visited around 7:00 pm. I ordered the duck broth soba, which was delicious with the rich flavor of duck. Personally, I recommend the dish of grated daikon radish with chili pepper and dried baby sardines, as well as the tempura of conger eel, more than the soba noodles.

Around 13:30 on the weekend, there were about 4 people waiting in line, so we waited for about 30 minutes before entering the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is narrow, but it has a warm atmosphere like an old folk house. We ordered the soba noodles with sudachi (citrus) and a seasonal dish of conger eel and Kamo eggplant tempura. The conger eel was fluffy and sweet, and the eggplant was juicy with a crispy and light batter. It was very delicious! The soba noodles looked beautiful, and the broth was very refined, refreshing, and had a subtle umami flavor, making it perfect for a hot day. By the way, the noodles are thin. It was a restaurant where you could feel that each dish was carefully prepared.

I came to Kyoto, so I decided to have lunch at a Michelin-listed restaurant. I wandered around Gion and arrived at the restaurant at 1:45 pm. I could order a large portion of soba for an additional 300 yen, so I decided to go for it. The soba was thin, flat, and fragrant. They provided coarse salt in a small dish, so you can try it with just salt first. The dipping sauce was flavorful with a katsuobushi base and a nice balance of sweetness and acidity. The soba was so good that even the soba broth was delicious. The side dish of yuba with ohitashi was a nice touch, reflecting the Kyoto style.

This is my favorite restaurant. I visited it again since I came to Kyoto this time. I came here to enjoy day drinking and finish with delicious sudachi soba. I thought I would have to wait in line since it was almost 1 PM, but when I called the restaurant, they said there were only 3 people waiting. So, I quickly took a taxi and headed there. There was no line when I arrived, but the restaurant was full so I had to wait a bit, but I was seated relatively quickly. The appetizers here are all delicious and well-crafted. I enjoyed day drinking with these appetizers and finished with sudachi soba. There's no greater happiness than this. I will definitely come back.

A soba restaurant near Ichibodou Chaho. It has received a Bib Gourmand from Michelin and has a high rating of 3.63 on Tabelog (as of April 19, 2023). I visited during early weekday hours and was able to be seated without waiting. I tried the lunch set (1,300 yen) which included soba noodles, ohitashi (tofu skin and komatsuna), dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette), pickles, and rice with ginger and fried tofu. The soba noodles were made from 100% stone-ground flour. Although they use soba from Numata, Hokkaido and grind it in-house, the aroma and flavor were not particularly outstanding. The thickness of the noodles varied, and the texture was inconsistent. The soba broth was on the spicier side with a moderate to slightly thin consistency. It had a slight off-flavor that was a bit off-putting. The dashimaki tamago, a staple in authentic soba restaurants, was not particularly delicious. The other dishes were average. While the variety of dishes was sufficient, the portion size of each dish was very small, so it didn't feel like a great deal. It's just the right amount if you want a light lunch. The restaurant became full while I was eating, and there was a wait by the time I left. It seems to be a popular spot, but personally, I felt it would be wiser to look for another place rather than waiting in line at this restaurant.

I visited Ryojina in Teramachi, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, because I wanted to eat soba in Kyoto. I confirmed that they were open on the day I planned to go. It was my first time trying Kansai-style soba broth. It was lighter than I expected, not too salty, and really brought out the flavor of the soba. The salt also added a nice touch, enhancing the sweetness. The duck soba was a complete contrast, with a rich flavor. The umami of the duck and the soba paired really well together!! It was incredibly delicious.

I visited a soba restaurant in Kyoto called Soba Roji. The interior has a traditional Kyoto feel, with a counter and tables in the back. I ordered the zaru soba in a large portion. They grind the soba themselves, and the texture is very good. The soba has a normal aroma. The dipping sauce is light and refreshing.

I decided to try this "harisoba with sudachi" after seeing it on social media. It has a refreshing taste compared to regular soba, and I finished it in no time. The lunch set comes with ginger and fried tofu rice, rolled omelette, boiled vegetables, and pickles, making it a great value.

I arrived at the rice field 15 minutes early, and because it was cold, I found a nearby soba restaurant and went in. It seemed to be quite popular, and even though I was short on time, I ordered a beer and a plate of grated wasabi. The grated wasabi was fluffy and delicious. It's a place where I'd like to go back and enjoy soba leisurely. Someone who ordered Ebisu beer won a prize and was very happy.

I ordered the winter limited warm soba with sudachi on top, which had a refreshing broth and thin noodles, overall a very refreshing taste. I love thin noodles, so this soba was right up my alley. When I visited Kyoto before (in the summer), I couldn't try the sudachi soba, so I had lemon soba at a different restaurant, which was delicious, so I was very satisfied to finally try the sudachi soba. The restaurant was located on a side street off the main street in a quaint setting. There were a few counter seats and a couple of table seats, and there were also solo diners. Next time, I want to try the duck nanban.

I sat at the counter seat in a traditional yet stylish atmosphere, overwhelmed by the ambiance of the staff. They kindly advised me to take a photo of the soba from directly above, and I ordered the coarse ground soba for 900 yen along with tempura on the side (served with salt). The soba was fragrant and made with Hokkaido Numata wheat, perfect for my diet, although the portion was a bit small. The price was a bit high, but the taste and texture of the soba, along with the overall atmosphere, left me very satisfied.

In early November, on a Sunday afternoon. I visited during the start of the autumn leaves season. Despite being listed as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog, I was able to get in easily. Most of the customers were dining alone. I had the zaru soba for 900 yen. It was just the right amount and I finished it quickly. It might be a satisfying portion for women.

On the first day of my trip to Kyoto - Part 3
For a light and delicious soba lunch, we visited "Soba Rouna." We arrived around 11:30 on a weekday and sat at the counter. We ordered the lunch set for 1300 yen and the Mori Soba for 900 yen. The lunch set came with boiled vegetables, rolled omelette, pickles, ginger and fried tofu with rice cooked in broth. The soba noodles were made of 100% buckwheat, thin and smooth, with a rich bonito-flavored salt broth to enhance the flavor of the soba. The generous serving of soba water was a nice touch. Since it was a weekday, there were a few salarymen dining as well. After finishing our meal, we returned the dishes to the counter. Happy with the delicious soba - a moment of bliss!

I made a reservation this time because a few years ago I was turned away due to the restaurant being full. I tried the Nara prefecture's "Mimuro Sugi" sake in a glass this month. Although the sake menu didn't have descriptions like junmai ginjo or dry, the Mimuro Sugi was described as a special junmai sake with a mild aroma and an elegant dry taste. Indeed, the sake had a faint, elegant aroma and was easy to drink. For snacks, I had a platter of three appetizers: simmered taro, yuba rolled with spicy cod roe, and stir-fried long green pepper and small dried fish. The sake was dry, so I also became dry. It was a bit pricey at 1,000 yen for just this. After the sake, I had a bowl of soba noodles. The thin noodles were served in a thick broth. It was quite salty because the server poured a lot into the soba cup, so even when I diluted it with soba broth, it was still salty. I tried drinking just the soba broth in a separate cup. Lastly, I had soba seed ice cream. The crushed soba seeds on top were fragrant, had a good texture, and tasted delicious.

It's been a while since I visited. I always pass by the shop but avoid lining up, so I usually skip it. However, I managed to get in at the right time this time. I ordered the duck soba noodles (1500 yen), which were consistently delicious. The thin soba noodles were tasty. The aroma of the new buckwheat was also good. I will visit again when it's not crowded.

I visited the restaurant on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, around lunchtime, probably a little after 12 o'clock. When I peeked into the entrance of the restaurant, it was empty, which is unusual as it is usually crowded. I sat at the available counter seat with only 4 other customers and ordered the lunch set. The soba noodles that were served a few minutes later were thin and delicious! The dipping sauce was not too spicy, giving me a taste of Kansai-style flavors, unlike the unique spiciness of soy sauce in Kanto region. The rice and pickles were also tasty, but the soba noodles and soba soup were the highlights. Overall, it was a great dining experience at this restaurant.
