On this day, I visited "Hakata Tempura Nagao" in Imazumi, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City.
◇Exterior and Interior
This izakaya specializes in tempura and is located in Imazumi, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City. The exterior is characterized by a traditional Japanese atmosphere with a striking white noren curtain, while the interior is bright and unified in wooden tones, creating a lively atmosphere despite its small size. The restaurant is casual and non-smoking inside, with smoking allowed outside.
◇Seating
All seats are at the counter, with around 15 seats.
◇Menu Structure
Upon seating, the staff will show you a wooden box containing the day's recommended ingredients. After that, the appetizer is optional, and you can choose from the regular menu. I ordered the following:
- Tempura: This was my 4th attempt at making a reservation today. The previous 3 attempts were unsuccessful, and each time I wondered if the lemon sour was delicious or the tempura was delicious. I had high expectations each time, and if this attempt failed, I thought it would be a sign of bad luck. However, I miraculously received an OK on the day itself. Of course, it wasn't early, but still. Due to my own assumptions, I decided to try the tempura with lemon sour, so I ordered burdock, shiitake mushrooms (180 yen), premium carrots (250 yen), Unzen ham (280 yen), Me-hikari (380 yen), shirako (480 yen), etc. Each item was carefully prepared and delicious. Among them, burdock and Me-hikari were particularly recommended. There are three types of salt on the table, and it was nice to have explanations for each option, such as eating with tempura sauce or as it is. The lemon sour was surprisingly dry, which was probably chosen to complement the tempura, and I was impressed by the system of refills... lol
◆Strong Points
This popular tempura izakaya in Imazumi was quite delicious!
◆Service
The service was above average and there seems to be a lot of room for improvement, but the basic style was well established.
◆Summary
Just like yakitori, there is definitely a trend towards more interactive presentations like sushi. In the end, it was clear that it is difficult to make a reservation if you go early. I wouldn't say that "everything is top-notch," but being able to enjoy tempura at a reasonable price and not being a high-end restaurant makes it attractive for everyday use. It was a good memory that I happened to have a great time at a shop I like in Yahata Nishi-ku... lol By the way, the restaurant provides mineral water instead of free tap water, and I fully support this decision... lol Thank you for the meal! ^ ^
