I visited a cake shop called "Mushiyashinai" in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City. My husband and I came to Kyoto to see the autumn leaves. On our way from Nanzen-ji to Enko-ji, we felt a bit tired and decided to have some tea. Enko-ji is closest to Ichijoji Station, which is on the Eizan Electric Railway line. Personally, when I think of Ichijoji, it's known as the holy land of Kyoto ramen. However, I didn't want to suggest eating ramen to my wife as she would get upset, so I decided to look for a nice sweets shop where we could have tea. I found an interesting shop near Ichijoji with the name "Mushiyashinai," so we decided to visit there. When I peeked inside the shop, it seemed bustling with customers, so we entered and found that it was full. A full house usually means the taste is good, so we decided to wait for a table to open up. When we informed the staff that we would wait, they asked for our order first. Looking at the showcase, there were a few delicious-looking cakes left, even though it was late. I was particularly drawn to a yellow cake with maple leaves on top, which looked sweet but not too much, so I ordered the seasonal "Seasonal Tart" with persimmons and maple leaves for 450 yen, and a "Mushiyablend Coffee" for 500 yen. While waiting for a table, I tried to remember what "Mushiyashinai" meant... As I was pondering, I searched online and found out that in Kyoto dialect, it means "to satisfy one's hunger." Ah, that's right, I thought to myself, and realized how fitting the name was for a sweets shop in Kyoto. Feeling relieved to understand the meaning, we finally got a table after a 15-minute wait. The atmosphere inside was lively with chatty ladies, and being a cake shop, tables didn't open up easily. When we finally sat down, our cake and coffee arrived within 2 minutes. So, let's dig in! The tart had custard and cream on top, sprinkled with almond chips, and a ripe persimmon on top. The contrast between the fluffy custard and creamy cream with the crispy tart was delightful. The custard was not too sweet to allow the sweetness of the ripe persimmon to shine. It was delicious. The sweetness was mild, but the flavor was rich, giving a solid and delicious taste. It was a satisfying treat. Thank you for the meal. Mushiyashinai 075-723-8364 78 Sato Nishimachi, Ichijoji, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City
