Located in the basement of KITTE Hakata next to the station, there is a small restaurant that serves fish set meals from 7:30 in the morning. The menu includes 4 options: "Silver Cod Miso Set Meal" (950 yen), "Mackerel Mirin Set Meal" (790 yen), "Salted Mackerel Set Meal" (750 yen), and "Salted Salmon Set Meal" (830 yen). However, since salmon is not caught in Fukuoka, there are essentially 3 choices. I tried the three options, and the silver cod was definitely the standout. The fillet, though not large, was fluffy and full of flavor. One serving of rice is definitely not enough (extra servings are available for a fee). The combination of silver cod and miso is so good that it makes you want to share it with the world. The official name of this restaurant is "Hakata Tenno KITTE Hakata Store," a branch of the Japanese restaurant "Hakata Tenno" located between Nakasu Kawabata Station and Kushida-machi. This branch mainly serves set meals for both breakfast and dinner, and the quality of the fish is just like the main store. Despite being a small restaurant, it manages to attract a long line of customers from early morning to night, offering delicious fish set meals at an affordable price. The mackerel in the "Salted Mackerel Set Meal" has crispy skin and tender, moist flesh, while the mirin-marinated mackerel in the "Mackerel Mirin Set Meal" has a slightly sweet flavor typical of Kyushu. Honestly, all options are equally good considering the price, but if you have to choose one, the "Silver Cod Miso Set Meal" is highly recommended. The rice is fluffy and delicious, and the miso soup is light yet flavorful. Instead of having a mediocre and expensive breakfast at your hotel during your Fukuoka sightseeing trip, come to the station and enjoy a meal here.

[Travel in Kyushu] On the second night, I managed to return to Hakata Station as planned by rental car from Takachiho Gorge! However, I was really exhausted... I bought souvenirs like spicy lotus root, mentaiko, and snacks at Hakata Station underground and stored them in a locker. I wanted to enjoy the last bit of Kyushu, so I tried to go to a restaurant I had wanted to visit, but it was fully booked due to reservations. So, I resorted to my usual "Tabelog search" and decided on this place. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was full, but the staff asked, "It will take some time for your order, is that okay?" After a short wait, I was able to enter! There were even solo female customers around. I was so exhausted that I didn't have much appetite, so I ordered a draft beer and Sesame Mackerel for 880 yen, and Scallop and Shrimp Butter Yaki for 1,280 yen. As I sat down, I started to relax... And first, the draft beer arrived! "Here's a draft beer for your hard work!" they said, along with a complimentary appetizer. I had anticipated being exhausted when I was looking at souvenirs at Hakata Station, but I was truly exhausted. This trip was great with the accommodations, hot springs, and Takachiho Gorge. Now, I'll head back on the Shinkansen!

For the fourth stop, I visited Hakata Tenno at KITTE's underground area! I ordered a set that came with three types of sake and three kinds of appetizers. The sake included Wakana, Porcini, and Nabeshima. Personally, I liked Wakana the best! Porcini tasted like white wine. Today's finale was the sake! (≧▽≦)

I came to Hakata and wanted to try mentaiko, so I went to a restaurant that I found on Tabelog which served mentaiko don. It's conveniently located near the station and opens early in the morning, which is great. I also added a bowl of fish broth for only 200 yen. The mentaiko don looked very fancy and luxurious, but the taste was surprisingly average. What really stood out was the fish broth, it was incredibly delicious. Despite being called fish broth, it had a lot of fish meat and a rich fish flavor. It was definitely worth ordering. Many people were also ordering the grilled fish set meal, so I thought it must be really delicious as well, considering how tasty the fish broth was.

I didn't have breakfast included at the hotel, but upon recommendation from a colleague, I visited around 9:20. I was surprised to see a long line, similar to what you would see at Starbucks across the street. I understood why people were lining up right behind those who were eating, so I waited for about 30 minutes before entering. I ordered the cod miso set meal, but noticed that many people that day were ordering mackerel dishes. I thought that eating here was much more delicious than having breakfast at the hotel. I ordered the silver cod set meal (approximately 1600 yen). It was delicious, with a nice crispy texture from being grilled with barley miso. However, there were quite a few bones in some parts, which was a bit disappointing. Additionally, it came with freshly steamed chawanmushi, although it is not shown in the photo.

The spiciness was just right! Mixing the dried young sardines and rice with soy sauce, and eating it with the spicy cod roe was amazing! The flavor of the spicy cod roe was strong, so the rice kept disappearing! I tried pouring the soup over it to eat it like ochazuke, but I think I prefer it as it is! I finished it in no time! On the first day of my business trip to Kyushu, I arrived early at Hakata Station for a meeting. I wanted to have lunch in Hakata, so I quickly headed to this restaurant I was looking for. It was a bit early for lunch, so even though there were three of us, we were able to enter without much of a wait. I ordered the motsunabe set meal, horse sashimi, and a sashimi platter with 5 types of fish. The food was delicious and made me want to drink alcohol. I ordered the "Motsunabe set with mentaiko rice and simmered vegetables" and my friend ordered the "Tonkatsu set" with a highball for an additional 350 yen. The motsunabe was delicious with a soy sauce base and included burdock, cabbage, leeks, tofu, and juicy, chewy motsu. The soup was so tasty that I felt like I could keep eating it forever. The simmered vegetables and rice topped with plenty of mentaiko were also delicious. The motsunabe set meal really hit the spot after sweating in the heat. It seems like people are flowing to Hakata Station area due to redevelopment around Tenjin Station. Today, I ordered the fish tempura set for 1650 yen. The taste was not particularly impressive, and I felt like it was priced for tourists. I probably won't visit again.

When it comes to lunch in Hakata, it's all about Tenno. I usually go for the sashimi set, but this time I tried the fried horse mackerel. Today I went on a business trip to Hakata. I visited a restaurant called "Amano" at KITTE, which I had seen on SNS. It was easy to enter even for solo diners. The mentaiko donburi was not only Instagrammable but also delicious. I enjoyed it as is, with soy sauce, and finally as ochazuke. It may be a bit pricey at ¥2,100, but I highly recommend this restaurant when in Hakata.

Underground shop in KITTE Hakata. Not a place to relax, more like a quick meal atmosphere. Since I'm in Fukuoka, I decided to order the seafood mentaiko bowl, which is a step up from the regular mentaiko bowl. It was a lavish lunch with a whole mentaiko and seafood. The atmosphere of the shop feels like a set meal in the 1,000 yen range, so it feels a bit out of place. While I enjoyed experiencing Fukuoka, the significantly higher-priced menu leaves me feeling a bit uneasy about the value for money.

The mentaiko was very delicious! The salad was average. The kinpira gobou was a bit too strong in flavor, so it was like a battle in my mouth between the mentaiko and kinpira gobou. The prices felt a bit high, maybe because it's in a commercial facility. The service was not bad, but I wish the staff guiding us was a bit better.

A delightful breakfast from the morning. This kind of breakfast is truly delightful. The smell of miso and fish in the morning is irresistible. The mackerel simmered in sweetened soy sauce can be eaten with the bones. Not enough rice. The miso soup, sucking on the bones. The meat is delicious too. Operating as a set meal restaurant in the morning and afternoon, and as an izakaya in the evening, this popular casual line of Amano! This time, I chose the popular Mentaiko Don as Fukuoka is known for mentaiko! The homemade mentaiko at the restaurant is plump and has a mild saltiness and spiciness! The sauce it is marinated in has a gentle taste with a rich dashi flavor! The unique chewy texture of mentaiko is still present, but it might be even better with a little more accent! The rice is topped with plenty of shredded omelet! It's nice to see a generous amount rather than just a token amount! On top of that, there are dried small fish and Korean seaweed! You can enjoy the different textures! Pour some dashi halfway through and have ochazuke (rice in tea)! The combination of this dashi and mentaiko is great! I don't usually have ochazuke, but this was quite good! I managed to finish it without getting tired of it! It's not too crowded even on weekends, so it's recommended for those staying near Hakata! In addition to mentaiko, there are various options such as seafood bowls and grilled fish set meals, so it's good to order according to your mood!

While the shop in Gofukumachi is said to be high-end, this one is more casual. The interior is narrow with counter and table seating available. They offer a variety of lunch menus with a focus on fish. I ordered the Salted Mackerel Set Meal for 1,080 yen and changed the miso soup to clear soup for an additional 30 yen tax included. They offer free extra rice up to one serving. The presentation is beautiful. The salted mackerel is delicious with a good amount of fat. The side dishes are a bit on the smaller side.
