On a Sunday lunchtime, I visited "Afterglow", located about a 10-minute walk from Rokumonmatsu Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line. This restaurant has been selected as a Bib Gourmand in the "Michelin Guide Fukuoka", so I had been curious about it for a while.
**Store**
I arrived around 12:45 on Sunday. It was lunchtime, so there was a line of about 10 people. What caught my attention was the "store owner's poem" posted on the glass in front of the shop. It had quirky phrases like "I don't think it's worth waiting in line to eat here" and "I'm doing my best, so please let me do things at my own pace". I love this kind of uniqueness. I entered the shop around 1:10 pm. Inside, there were 4 counter seats on the left and 4 two-person table seats on the right. The interior was quite distinctive, with peculiar items like a human head, crab, and turtle. The background music was by the band Sakanaction, playing at a fairly high volume. There were also the store owner's poems placed all around the shop, making me look around curiously.
**Menu**
I chose the Sri Lankan Plate, which I had decided on even before my visit. There were 3 types of Sri Lankan Plates to choose from, so it was a tough decision. I consulted with the owner and ended up ordering the ★Sri Lankan Plate with oysters for 1800 yen, as it was a popular choice that day. It arrived in about 15 minutes. The oyster curry was served in a separate dish. The owner advised me to break the papadum, pour a little oyster curry over it, and eat it. First, I tried the oyster curry alone. It was delicious!!! The gentle sweetness of coconut was followed by the spices like curry leaves. There were about 7 large oysters in the curry. Oysters and curry really go well together. The oyster curry alone was already perfect. I had to stop myself from finishing just the oyster curry and moved on to breaking the papadum, mixing it with the side dishes. The beans, green beans, carrots, lotus root, potatoes, and other carefully crafted side dishes were all harmoniously prepared. Each side dish blended well without overpowering each other. It was amazing. I was so engrossed that I finished every last bite.
**Final Thoughts**
It was a plate that left a strong impression on me. Personally, it was a dish that hit the spot for me. When I spoke to the owner, she mentioned that there were too many daily menu options, making it impossible to keep up even if you visited twice a week. The restaurant was unique and its true potential was beyond measure. It was a fantastic meal. Thank you for the delicious food.
