Smoking is permitted in all seats. As the Law Concerning Measures Against Passive Smoking (Revised Health Promotion Law) has been in effect since April 1, 2020, please check with the restaurant prior to your visit as the information may differ from the latest information.
One of the representative bars in Kyoto. It is a deep bar. Highballs are famous, and most people order them. Despite being crowded, you can find a seat. On a holiday after 8 pm, there were two groups of customers before us and two groups after us. It is mostly counter seating, but there are more seats than it appears from the outside. [What we drank] Highball ¥1300 I may not have much credibility as I don't usually drink highballs. But oh, this is delicious... Slightly strong but not too strong, not too weak either, this, this! I drank it in no time. There were mostly male customers, and since you can't see inside from the outside, it might be a bit intimidating for women. But I recommend it to those who love Kyoto and love alcohol. The atmosphere is really nice. Just as I was thinking that, I came across some unbelievable experiences in the Google Maps reviews... It seems like there are unique rules and the staff observe the customers closely. I'm glad I didn't accidentally offend them (^_^;) It might be a place that requires some preparation. Also, there are some concerns regarding infection prevention measures. For those who are worried about it, I recommend visiting after the pandemic. Thank you for the meal!

I stopped by a retro bar near Kyoto City Hall after dinner. There were three male customers drinking alone. It was a very unique space. I decided to order a highball, thinking it would be a safe choice, and enjoyed it. It had just the right amount of carbonation with a base of Taketsuru, making it refreshing. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since my last visit. I've stopped by a few times, but the lights were always off, which made me worry. The bartender seems to be the same as always. I ordered a highball with ice made from Super Nikka. However, disinfectant spray on the counter of this historic bar just doesn't seem right.

I visited the shop just after it opened, so the master wasn't drunk yet (lol). Last time I had a Taketsuru highball, but now they don't have Taketsuru in stock, so I had the same Nikka SESSION (奏楽) this time. It cost 2000 yen per glass. The calming atmosphere of the interior remains the same. This time I had to catch a bullet train, so I only had one drink and left, but I would like to come back next time to enjoy a leisurely drink.

I often wander around Shinkyogoku, but I went there for the first time. The master is really cool. I had studied in advance, so I ordered a highball. As I was observing the other customers, I noticed that the master's expression seemed to darken when someone ordered a highball with ○○. If it was just my imagination, I apologize. The highball was poured into the glass with whiskey and soda without any stirring, but it was surprisingly delicious. Maybe it's the combination? By the way, the whiskey used was Nikka's "Kouga". I got carried away chatting with the gentleman next to me, and I lost count of how many refills I had. When I left the restaurant, I was a little unsteady on my feet. It was a wonderful time.

Today I went on a solo trip to Kyoto izakayas. After finishing sightseeing in the morning, I visited two standing bars and a bar in the afternoon. Back at the hotel for a nap. The second part of the evening started after 8 pm. The bar I visited was full, so I couldn't get in without a reservation. I was guided to a nearby affiliated store, but I was already done with beer. I walked a bit and found "Kyoto Sanboa" where luckily there was one seat available at the counter. I ordered a highball. The highball at Sanboa was crisp and delicious. Each bar has its own style, standing or sitting. But the common point is that the highball is delicious. Let's have another drink, this time a whiskey straight. I saw the 17-year-old Hakushu, so I ordered that. It was consistently delicious. Even though a Suntory executive says it's good or bad, I always go for Hakushu. Let's visit a few more bars before we call it a night. Thank you for the hospitality. "Kyoto Sanboa" Kyoto City, Nakagyo-ku, Teramachi-dori Sanjo-sagaru, Sakuranomachi 406, 18:00-23:30, closed on Tuesdays and the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

I read a book called "Sanbo" which talks about the history of the bar "Sanbo". I wanted to visit this place because of the book. I arrived around 10:30 PM on Saturday and saw a young woman talking to the bartender about the corkscrews displayed in the bar. There were indeed a lot of corkscrews there. The woman seemed interested in them. I ordered a highball as I read on Tabelog that it is the specialty of the bar. It was made quickly and tasted great, especially because they used Taketsuru whiskey. Japanese whiskey has been popular overseas and in short supply lately. The bartender has been working at the bar for 40 years, which is impressive. It seems that foreign tourists also visit this bar in Kyoto. Interestingly, if the first customer is a foreigner, the bar fills up with foreigners, and vice versa for Japanese customers. The atmosphere is great for enjoying conversations and delicious drinks. I highly recommend Sanbo. Check out the blog for more details: https://blog.goo.ne.jp/good-tasty/e/e358f321feaada4babe7791894ff8592

I visited this shop that I was interested in for the first time. It's not very spacious, but it's a quiet and relaxing space where you can enjoy your drink slowly. I didn't have much time as I was about to catch a bullet train, but I ended up having three drinks. I would like to visit again.

Came to the famous restaurant with my wife on a weekday evening. It's impressive that this place has become so well-known, thanks to the hard work of those who came before us. There was a lady sitting alone as the only other customer. We ordered the recommended highball and gin and tonic. Unfortunately, both drinks were flat, as if they were made from leftover ingredients from the day before. It's disappointing to think that a famous restaurant would do something like that.
