Good evening. I am beauty acupuncturist Kozue. The other day, I went to a shop called Ryoen Tozumi near Takadanobaba Station. The most popular item is the Double-Skin Milk Pudding for 500 yen. There are various toppings available, such as red beans, lotus seeds, taro balls, sesame paste, and tapioca. This time, I ordered the Coconut Milk Grass Jelly for 500 yen with tapioca topping. It is a generous amount of coconut milk with grass jelly and tapioca soaked in it. The grass jelly is not very sweet and has a subtle herbal fragrance. The tapioca has a chewy texture and is very delicious. The coconut milk is mildly sweet and goes very well with the grass jelly and tapioca. A friend of mine ordered warm milk pudding with red beans and taro mochi as toppings. The milk pudding is topped with plenty of red beans. The red beans are quite large and not very sweet, but still delicious. Overall, the desserts are not too sweet and healthy. I would like to try other menu items next time. It was delicious. I tried turtle jelly (honey option) and curry fish ball. The turtle jelly is perfect for summer, with a chewy and smooth texture. It is made with protein from a turtle shell, not gelatin, and is like a traditional Chinese herbal jelly. It was my first time trying it, and I really liked it. It's a bit bitter on its own, but the chewy texture is enjoyable, and even with the bitterness, it was quite tasty. You can add condensed milk or honey syrup as options. Condensed milk is more popular, but I chose honey, which was delicious. It would also be nice to try it with coconut milk. I hope they add it as an option.

In Hong Kong, the popular snack, steamed milk pudding, lined up alongside local brands like "Australian Dairy Company," so I wasn't the only one. However, what awaited me after the queue was just a normal taste. "Oh, it's milk pudding," they said. Of course, that's fine, but in the gourmet metropolis of Hong Kong, I was hoping for something like, "Wow, this is amazing! I want this in Japan too!" Shortly after, Hong Kong started making headlines for riots, followed quickly by the coronavirus. Naturally, I forgot all about the pudding, but I happened to stumble upon this shop in a small alley in Takadanobaba. Keeping in mind that "milk pudding is just milk pudding. Nothing more, nothing less," I ordered without getting my hopes up. As I put the pudding in my mouth... it was explosively delicious. I couldn't contain my expectations and took another bite, and another. I tried the plain milk pudding without any toppings. Yes, it was incredibly delicious. Even without the label of steamed milk pudding, it was delicious. I apologize for my lack of vocabulary, but it's just... I want to eat it every day. I want to share it with others. I wonder if it could become as popular as Starbucks. I'm serious.

I visited a shop by chance and thought the dessert would be tofu pudding because of its appearance, but when I looked at the menu closely, it said milk pudding (which I thought was a Hong Kong food). I tried the hot version, and it was just the right temperature to warm me up, with a refined sweetness that I really liked. Perhaps because the milk pudding is sweet, the toppings like tapioca and sweet potatoes were not flavored to balance it out, so you could enjoy the natural sweetness and chewy texture of the sweet potatoes.

I couldn't visit the restaurant for a long time since it closed shortly after opening. I stopped by on my way back from Xi Hua Tea House. They offer Cantonese-style snacks like double-skin milk pudding with red beans, which was not too sweet and tasted similar to what you would find in Hong Kong. The owner speaks Cantonese, which adds to the authenticity of the experience. It's a Hong Kong dessert shop, so hearing someone with a strong Northeastern accent speaking Mandarin would be a turn-off. I look forward to trying their fish balls next time.

It was around 2:00 PM on Sunday when two of us casually visited the restaurant. We were lucky to get seats at the counter right away, but others who came after us had to wait in line. It's a popular spot! * Double Skin Milk - 500 yen * Red Apple Tangyuan - 580 yen I was drawn to the signboard advertising "Twice-steamed Milk Pudding," and it truly was the most delicious milk pudding I've ever had! (*⁰▿⁰*)☆ Authentic! Inside the restaurant, Chinese was being spoken, creating an atmosphere as if we were actually in China! The restaurant has a Foodlog rating of 3.08 as of August 2022.

The highlight this time is double skin milk. Well, it looks the same as the Shunde local dish, the texture is smooth, and you can feel the richness of buffalo milk. When made with regular milk, it is difficult to balance the milk and egg white, so it feels stubborn, but the double skin milk I had at the restaurant doesn't feel this way at all, it's very close to the original. Double skin milk just can't be made without buffalo milk. From this perspective, you can feel the owner's dedication. However, it's a bit too sweet of a problem. The richness of the buffalo milk has been diluted. It's a shame. (Additional orders of grass jelly coconut milk and sago in coconut milk with sugar syrup are just the right sweetness.)

The owner is from the region and the shop feels like a family-run business. The owner's manner of speaking and atmosphere are very relaxed, just like being overseas! I've never been to Shunde in Guangdong, but personally, it felt similar to Taiwan. On this day, I had the classic warm double skin milk pudding with red bean topping. It was quite a hot day, so when I asked for a cold pudding, the owner said, "Oh, you're like a local person, not wanting it cold." It felt great! The pudding was so smooth and the not-too-sweet red beans were amazing. Scooping it up with the lotus spoon made me so happy. It was incredibly delicious and I left completely satisfied.

(Sorry for the lack of exterior photos due to this) Inside the store, there are three small tables (about 4 seats each, additional round chairs), and a small and lively counter. So, I quickly looked at the menu. Hmm! They all look delicious! And at reasonable prices! Turtle jelly 580 yen Ginger milk pudding 550 yen Ginger soup dumplings 480 yen Toppings are also 80 yen each. I should have added toppings! So, turtle jelly. Ta-da! With condensed milk. The turtle jelly, which may give the impression of a slightly herbal scent, is sweeter and easier to eat than syrup. And ginger soup dumplings. Ta-da! It warms your body up. All of them are so good for your health! Sweets that really consider your body. The day after eating turtle jelly, my skin always feels plump and moist, and this morning it was still soft! It really has an effect. I want to go again! I came to this shop looking for dessert after a meal. The shop didn't speak any Japanese, but the menu was written in Japanese so I could understand the atmosphere. However, what I ordered was completely different from what I got, haha. The taste was homely and had a rustic homemade feel that was comforting. However, the shop was freezing cold as the air conditioning was turned off. Both the staff and customers were wearing coats and down jackets inside.

Located about a 10-minute walk from Takadanobaba Station towards the Kotaki Bridge intersection, this small shop offers Cantonese sweets. The interior has a counter and three small tables. The owner, who speaks little Japanese, mainly communicates in Cantonese or Chinese. The menu has Japanese translations, so don't worry if you don't speak the language. I visited twice on weekend afternoons and was lucky to find it relatively empty, but it's recommended to go when you have some time to spare. The items I tried were: Red Bean Double Skin Milk Pudding (¥500), Water Chestnut Cake (¥450), White Fungus Egg Sweet Soup (¥550), and Turnip Cake (¥450). They may not look fancy, but they have a simple and gentle taste that reflects the owner's personality. The Double Skin Milk Pudding, in particular, is a labor-intensive dish that I recommend trying at least once.
