This is my second visit. I went on a Saturday morning for a business trip in Kyoto. I arrived at 9:20. The way people were lining up was different this time, maybe because the shop next door was closed. The line extended horizontally, and I was in the second row right after the turn, which would have been about three rows in the previous arrangement. There were the usual two rows in front of the shop. Can I buy in 20 minutes from here? If it takes more than 30 minutes, I won't make it to my next appointment. It was still a close call. Surprisingly, it felt like it was moving faster than last time. But it still took about 25 minutes. Today, I wanted to buy the bean mochi and rice cakes, but it seems they are not available. I asked the person managing the line, but they weren't sure if there were rice cakes available, and indeed, there weren't any when I got to the front of the shop. So, I ended up buying the recommended Mizuki, Kyoto white miso kashiwa mochi, and red rice. I will eat them at home. First, the bean mochi. The beans are still firm and have a good texture. And most importantly, the mochi itself is delicious, with a perfect amount of salt. There is a slight hint of nuttiness in the aftertaste, making it a satisfying bean daifuku. The white miso kashiwa mochi has a unique flavor. Mizuki is not my favorite, but I feel like I might start to like it.

Chestnut mochi ¥320, Bean mochi ¥230. Before the store opened on Sunday, there was already a line forming. It took just under an hour from lining up to making a purchase. Both the chestnut mochi and bean mochi have a mild sweetness and are delicious. The famous bean mochi had a nice touch of saltiness.

After helping my son move, I stopped by a popular souvenir shop on the way back where there is always a long line. It usually takes about 20 minutes to wait in the three lines. I remember buying some delicious bean cakes from Kyoto Daimaru department store about 15 years ago when I visited for some errands. It's been a while since I had them. The secret to their popularity might be that they need to be eaten on the same day. Today's menu included: - Famous Bean Cakes for 220 yen - Tanba Chestnuts for 320 yen - Country-style Daifuku (with real yomogi leaves) for 250 yen I went there after 3 pm, so many items were already sold out. It might be better to go in the morning to avoid missing out on your favorite treats.

What is your favorite traditional Japanese sweet? Mine is "Daifuku with red bean paste". If you love Daifuku, then you must know about "Meidai Mochi" from Demachi Futaba! It is made using the same traditional method that has been passed down for over 120 years. It's amazing to think that people from over a century ago were enjoying the same Mochi. This Daifuku has "smooth red bean paste", so if you prefer "chunky red bean paste", please be aware. I personally prefer smooth red bean paste, so this Mochi is perfect for me! The soft and smooth Mochi paired with delicious red bean paste is just heavenly. The balance with the green peas is also just right. The hint of saltiness adds to the wonderful flavor. Thanks to the amazing Japanese sweet buyer, Mr. H, I was able to enjoy Kyoto sweets in Tokyo through Takashimaya's air delivery service. I always feel satisfied when I see Mr. H during the delivery. Thank you, Mr. H, for this amazing Meidai Mochi!

The rotation was fast, so we didn't have to wait as long as we thought. Finally got our hands on the famous Demachi Futaba's Daifuku. My partner and I bought 5 different items: Mame-mochi, Kurimochi, Fuku Daifuku, Inaka Daifuku, and Sekihan. It was hot, so we didn't want the mochi to melt, so we enjoyed them freshly made on a bench near the riverbank. - Mame-mochi: The combination of mochi and beans is solid, and the balance of sweetness in the red bean paste is just right! The red bean paste is not too much, and you can taste the deliciousness of the mochi. A taste that will appeal to many people. - Kurimochi: The filling is smooth red bean paste. The taste of the Tanba chestnuts is preserved as it is, surprising! The sprinkled kinako (roasted soybean flour) on top is fragrant and really delicious.

I visited Demachi Futaba and ordered yomogi manju and azuki bean mochi. It was very crowded on a Sunday afternoon, so I had to wait for about 10 minutes. The manju was delicious, sweet and tasty. Overall, I would rate it 4.5. Honestly, I couldn't tell much of a difference between this manju and regular ones.

When I go to Kyoto, I always visit this shop. In September, I bought daifuku with sweet potato filling. I also got red bean daifuku and mugwort daifuku. They are all delicious. Since they don't contain any additives, the natural flavors and textures are amazing. It's always crowded, so I will consider the timing of my visit. Now that it's autumn, I wonder if they have any chestnut sweets available. I look forward to visiting again.

Name-dai Dobei - 220 yen Inaka Daifuku - 250 yen A shop I visit a few times a year, located east of Kyoto's Demachi parking lot. There is always a long line, and if it weren't for that, I would go more often. Today, I arrived after 10 o'clock and was happy to see no line. For the first time, I was able to order without waiting. Both items were delicious as always. I will definitely go back. Thank you for the meal.

"Demachi Futaba" is a famous traditional Japanese sweets shop in Kyoto, known by everyone in the area. Even on weekdays in the early afternoon, there is a long line of customers. Their most popular item is the bean mochi, which has a chewy and bouncy texture with a slightly salty bean filling and not too sweet red bean paste. They also offer other delicious options such as sweet potato bean mochi and chestnut mochi with whole chestnuts inside. All their products have a same-day expiration date, making it difficult to buy them as souvenirs.

When I left Isetan and crossed Kawaramachi Street, I visited this shop right nearby. At 13:44, when I arrived at the shop, there were a few people gathered. It wasn't crowded enough to form a line, so I looked at the products from a distance and made my purchases. I bought: - Famous bean cakes (¥220) x2 - Country-style daifuku (¥250) x2 - Real bracken rice cake (¥380) x1 Each had a different filling like whole bean paste or smooth red bean paste, but they were all delicately sweet and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

This is Kyoto. In Kyoto, there is a shop a little further north from the intersection of Kawaramachi and Imadegawa streets. I had some time and wanted to buy some sweets, so I decided to go to Demachi Futaba. As I turned the corner and looked ahead under the arcade where the shop is located, I saw quite a long line. It's a busy season... I thought I couldn't wait without a roof. Nevertheless, I joined the line at the end. The line was roughly about 30 people??? But surprisingly, the line moved quickly and we were soon at the front. The staff were all experienced and worked efficiently, making the whole process stress-free. I only bought the red bean daifuku. There were other tempting sweets available, but I didn't want to spend too much time deciding, so I stuck with the daifuku. I took it as a souvenir to my friend's house nearby and served it as a tea snack. The daifuku with red beans and soft mochi with a good balance of sweetness in the filling was incredibly delicious. I couldn't resist and ended up eating a second one. I had to accept the line as inevitable, and I know that I will definitely buy from here again when I come back to this area.

Today's souvenir is Futaba's bean mochi. Whenever I go to Kyoto, my companion always asks me to buy this bean mochi. I have to go there for work, but oh well. I'll manage to make a detour and buy it on the way back. As soon as I got home, my companion's tone changed when they saw the package hanging from my hand. Phew, it was worth taking the long way and making a pit stop. I'll eat it after drinking tonight. I'll have one, and my companion will have two. Munch. The sweet red bean paste and salty mochi are just right for my tired body. Futaba's bean mochi is truly delicious. As I enjoy it slowly, my companion has already finished munching on their two pieces. They should have savored it a bit more (laughs). When I finish eating, my companion says, "Buy it again next time." It's quite a hassle to get it, but oh well (laughs). Thank you for the meal.

Located about a 5-minute walk from Demachiyanagi Station on the Keihan Line, this shop does not have a parking lot. Established in 1890, this Kyoto confectionery shop is known for its traditional Japanese sweets. After enjoying some soba, I noticed that there was not a long line today in front of the shop, which is usually the case. This was my chance! I had to line up. I waited about 7 minutes until it was my turn. I ordered 3 servings of the shop's famous bean rice cakes for 220 yen each, and 1 serving of "mizore mochi" for 290 yen. When I got home, I tried them chilled. The bean rice cakes had a delightful texture with red adzuki beans on the outside. They had a nice balance of saltiness and sweetness from the high-quality beans from Tokachi. They were delicious as always! The "mizore mochi" had a soft and refreshing sweetness. It was also very tasty! It's clear that high-quality ingredients are used in both. This shop is rooted in Kyoto's traditional confectionery making, and I hope they continue to preserve their traditional flavors for many years to come.

Shop Information: Shop Name: Demachi Futaba Nearest Station: 7 minutes walk from Demachiyanagi Station Business Hours: 8:30-17:30 Regular Holiday: Tuesdays, 4th Wednesday Personal Impression: ⭐️⭐️(out of 3) I thought that rice cakes and rice cakes with bean paste were just different names, but it turns out they are actually different things. Honestly, I can't tell the difference even after eating them...lol. It's a traditional Japanese confectionery shop loved by locals!

Meimeido Mochi. This shop is famous for its bean daifuku. There is always a long line. They also have warabi mochi, kusa daifuku, and ohagi, but the bean mochi (bean daifuku) is the most popular and my favorite. The skin is thin and soft. The refined red bean paste inside is also exquisite. The taste of the beans is solid and different from other bean daifuku. There is the Kamogawa Delta nearby, so it's nice to sit and eat while looking at the river.

I had been wanting to go to this restaurant for a long time. Finally, I was excited to be able to eat there and lined up in the queue. After purchasing, I went to a nearby riverside to enjoy it right away. It was so fluffy that it seemed like it would fall apart if I held it. The texture was chewy. The balance of the subtle sweetness of the red bean paste and the saltiness was superb. I devoured it in no time. It's a treat that you could eat as many as you want. Undoubtedly the pinnacle of daifuku.

Long time no see! Today in Demachiyanagi, Kyoto, let's stop by "Demachi Futaba" and grab some sweets. The bean mochi is not too sweet, with a refreshing sweet red bean paste and a chewy mochi that stretches. The touch of salt from the red beans enhances the flavor, making the sweetness even more delicious. It's no wonder there's always a line for it - it's so popular. This delicious bean mochi is enjoyable for anyone, even for those who don't like overly sweet treats like me.

Established since Meiji 32, the long-standing "Demachi Futaba," especially popular for its "Meidai Mochi." Today, with the scorching heat, there were fewer people lining up. For those who love sweet bean paste, they bought the mugwort mochi. It may have been since high school that I last purchased from the main store. Back then, there were no lines, and you could buy anytime. Futaba's bean daifuku is a great souvenir that always brings joy to everyone. The perfect balance of saltiness makes you happy as you savor it in your mouth. As always, it was delicious. Yummy~~~(⑉• •⑉)‥♡

The other day, I had some errands in Demachiyanagi, Kyoto, and stopped by. I was surprised by how crowded it was. I don't have any photos, but I really like the hon warabi mochi from this shop. Their specialty is cold warabi mochi, but when I went around 3 o'clock, they were sold out. I'll definitely try to go and buy it next time I visit.

I arrived at the store around 2:40 pm on a holiday. As usual, there was a line. There were about 20 people in front of me. I docked at the end of the line. The line moved quickly and I was able to order in about 5 minutes. I ordered 6 pieces of mochi. When I asked if it's better to keep them chilled, they said to take them at room temperature to prevent them from getting hard. I was a little worried because it was hot in Kyoto. However, when I brought them home, they were soft and very delicious. Even though it had been about 5 hours, they were still delicious. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. I want to eat it again.

I went to Shimogamo Shrine on a Saturday afternoon before Obon in August. On the way back, I passed by Demachiyanagi Station and saw a small crowd at Demachi Futaba as usual, about 10 groups in line. I decided to wait and it only took about 10 minutes. The staff, about 5 or 6 of them, efficiently served customers, so the turnover was fast. I bought 4 bean mochi (220 yen each) and 2 real bracken mochi (380 yen each). The bean mochi was delicious with a nice salty flavor and a soft, chewy texture. The elegant sweetness of the red bean paste complemented it well. I was tempted by the seasonal offerings like Minazuki and Mizore mochi, but I resisted. The bean mochi was so good that it tasted decent even the next day, although it probably had to be consumed on the same day.
