Ramen, regular size, 700 yen, around 1:30 PM on weekdays, no wait. After leaving Kitchen Gorilla, I thought I could eat a little more, so I headed to Akutagawa, but it was Kyoto University's graduation ceremony today, so the students were lining up like crazy, so I gave up. I understand the feeling of wanting to eat Akutagawa's ramen last! So, I went to Mastani, which I had been bookmarking for a while. It's a 2-3 minute distance by bike. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is nice with a Showa era vibe. The staff are all like grandparents, definitely delicious! While ordering the regular ramen, it arrived in about 3 minutes. It had tonkotsu pork bone soup with back fat, green onions, menma, and chashu! The guy next to me ordered extra green onions, so I wanted more green onions, but the normal amount was still quite good. The soup had a good pork bone flavor and umami taste. The noodles were thin straight noodles with a slightly chewy texture, which was unique, but paired well with the soup! The chashu was well-seasoned and the texture of the green onions added a nice accent! It was a delicious ramen that you could feel was loved by everyone. I'm glad I could come to this popular ramen shop with a long history! Thank you for the meal, I will come again!

I was searching for a place to have lunch near my current location, and I happened to come across a restaurant that I had heard of before. Although I hesitated for a moment when I saw the exterior of the restaurant, I decided to go in. It was crowded, so I had to wait in line, but the staff gave me water and provided a level of service that I hadn't experienced much at ramen shops, which pleasantly surprised me. I ordered the "Ramen Large" for 850 yen. It was delicious! The staff members were also very nice, and I couldn't help but feel happy. Thank you. It was a great meal.

During a break from work, I went for lunch! It was my first visit to this ramen shop that I had been curious about for a while. They mentioned that they couldn't provide extra green onions due to a shortage. Too bad!! However, the ramen was delicious with a light taste despite having pork fat. I definitely want to visit again in the future.

A Kyoto long-established ramen shop that is only open for lunch from 10 am. The shop is located on a small alley parallel to the main street, so it is easy to miss if you are not paying attention. Luckily, I entered without having to wait in line. As soon as you open the door, you can smell the meaty aroma from the pot where the soup is being simmered. I sat at the counter, and the staff came to take my order. There was a notice saying that prices will increase from August due to rising costs, and based on other reviews, it seems like the noodle dishes will go up by 50 yen. This time, I ordered the regular ramen for 750 yen. It didn't have as much greasiness as I expected, and the light soy sauce flavor was refreshing. This Kyoto ramen shop has been around for a long time. There are soy sauce, vinegar, pepper, and shichimi on the table, so you can adjust the taste to your liking. The noodles had a nice firmness, and the portion was just right for hopping to another shop. I hope this place continues to thrive for a long time.

I walked from Ichijoji TenTen Arimoto main store to enjoy back-to-back meals! I have been to the shops in Kyoto Station and Tokyo, but finally made it to the main store in Kitashirakawa. There was a faint animal smell in the air as I waited about 20 minutes to be seated. Since I was having back-to-back meals, I only ordered the Chinese soba. The soup was rich but not overwhelming. It had a taste that conveyed the history and experience of the place. I sat closest to the entrance and next to the cashier, so I couldn't get the intonation of the lady saying "Thank you very much" out of my head for a while. Thank you for the meal, thank you very much! ( ◠‿◠ )

A traditional ramen shop in Kitashirakawa with long lines inside. They offer a single ramen option, with the Chashu-men priced at 850 yen. The soup tasted salty, similar to my previous visit. It had a lot of pork fat which complemented the flavors well. Despite its inconvenient location, it's worth visiting at least once.

The restaurant is small, but the ramen itself is delicious. The parking lot is about a 3-minute walk away. It has a traditional feel as it has been around for a long time. The inside of the restaurant has a strong smell of oil, which may make it difficult to fully enjoy the taste of the ramen. Despite this, it is a popular spot with customers coming in even after 1:00 PM. Customers include solo travelers, couples, and foreign tourists.

This is Mastani from Otokita Shirakawa, a Kyoto ramen shop. Even after 11:30 am on weekdays, there was still a slight wait. This time, I had the regular ramen for 700 yen. It's so delicious that I feel guilty for only paying 700 yen. The soup is amazing. It's a strong chicken bone soy sauce with back fat, a classic and authentic style. Despite the gloomy rainy season, by the time I left, I was sweating and feeling energized!

It's been a while since my last visit, about 2 years ago. Even during the pandemic, the restaurant was still packed with a constant line. The narrow entrance of the shop can make it feel crowded for those sitting at the counter seats, as people line up along the counter. However, the turnover rate is high, so even if you have to wait, you'll be seated quickly. This time, I visited on a weekday just before 2 pm, and there were about 3 groups waiting inside. It took less than 15 minutes to be seated. However, it felt longer waiting for the noodles to arrive after being seated. I waited for about 15 minutes, reading a book leisurely. Orders are taken in order once you are seated. I ordered the "Ramen Large" for 800 yen. I asked for extra green onions and firm noodles. In Kyoto, the noodles are usually soft, so it's important to ask for them firm if you eat slowly. The soup was quite salty at first, but I got used to it and it became enjoyable. After sweating a lot, the saltiness tasted even better. The chashu was the traditional thin, brown, slightly firm kind, nothing special. The portion of noodles in the large size was satisfying. The crunchy green onions were plentiful and delightful. The lady at the shop was friendly, and the guy who showed us to our seats was attentive, quickly noticing when our water was low. There were condiments like pepper, black pepper, and shichimi for flavoring, along with ramen sauce on the table. Adding shichimi gave it a nice kick. It's nice that they are open until 4 pm even after lunchtime. In a time when ramen prices are often over 1000 yen, it's impressive that they have been operating at this price for so long. For those who enjoy the strong saltiness of traditional pork fat soy sauce ramen, I recommend this place.

I visited Mastani-san, established in 1948, after a long time. The Kyoto ramen with chicken bone soy sauce, back fat, and plenty of Kujo green onions is excellent. I patiently waited for the waitress to take my order after entering. The ramen was served within 5 minutes of ordering, piping hot with a little shichimi pepper added. The large ramen is served in a bowl full to the brim, so it is quite substantial. The fact that this quality is only ¥800 is much appreciated. Thank you for the meal.

On Children's Day, Friday at 12:15 pm, there are more than 15 people lined up. The parking lot, which can fit 3 cars, is located on the opposite side of the road, with 6 middle school students waiting. We waited for about 40 minutes. The counter is small, and with people waiting behind you, it feels cramped physically and mentally. After sitting down, the food arrived in about 10 minutes. The large portion comes in a big bowl with plenty of noodles, making it quite heavy. The thin straight noodles are delicious as they mix well with the soup. I ordered the noodles firm, but they felt quite soft. The soup has a strong, almost gamey flavor that lingers in your mouth. It's a simple pork fat soy sauce soup, but this intensity is both unique and memorable. There is a significant difference between the large and regular portions, so be careful when ordering. The rice is an additional 200 yen, but the portion is on the smaller side, around 150g.

Spring is in full bloom, we went hiking at Daikokusan and enjoyed the cherry blossoms in full bloom along the Philosophers' Path. We took a break from the hustle and bustle of the path and found a local Chinese noodle shop with a short wait of 5 people ahead of us. The staff estimated a 10-minute wait, and we were seated as expected. I ordered the Char Siu Ramen for ¥850, a simple yet deeply flavorful dish loved by locals in Kyoto. While waiting, I chatted with a regular customer who has been coming here since childhood. It's a beloved local spot. Thank you for the delicious meal. We will definitely be back.

I was looking for a place to have lunch before the open campus ceremony at the correspondence university, and decided to search for my favorite ramen. I found a highly rated, long-established Chinese soba restaurant called "Masutani". Since it hadn't been long since it opened, I thought it wouldn't be too crowded. The location was on a side street across a small river near Ginkaku-ji Temple. From a distance, it was hard to tell if the restaurant was open. When I arrived and opened the door, there was already a line forming, about an 8-person wait. The restaurant was small, with about 3 tables for 4 people each and 5 or 6 counter seats. I had to wait for about 20 minutes before being seated. The ordering style was to wait for the kitchen staff to come take your order. I ordered the large size with extra green onions. Most people seemed to prefer their noodles firm. The soup was very flavorful, but overly salty. The noodles were hot and soft, with a generous amount of green onions. The volume of noodles was satisfying, but the saltiness was a bit too much for me. I found it challenging. I saw reviews saying this was the best Chinese soba in Kyoto, but I wonder if other Chinese soba restaurants in Kyoto also have such strong flavors. I plan to visit other Chinese soba places in Kyoto during my next schooling session at the correspondence university.

After descending from Mt. Hiei to Kyoto city by motorcycle, I arrived at Masutani, which is quite close. It was past 3 o'clock, but there were still people waiting inside the restaurant, and the staff were taking orders from the customers at the counter. It had been a while since my last visit, so I ordered ramen with extra char siu, firm noodles, and extra green onions. The ramen that arrived was the quintessential Kyoto-style ramen with a rich broth topped with plenty of pork fat, yet it was not overpowering at all. I added some vinegar from the table halfway through for a change in flavor, and I was filled with nostalgia as I finished every last drop of the soup. There was a sign in the restaurant saying they would have a temporary closure on the 30th, and I felt relieved that I had visited just one day before that. The weather was nice, and places like the Philosopher's Path, Nanzen-ji Temple, and the Incline (Keage) were packed with people, perhaps for cherry blossom viewing or tourism.

I ordered a regular portion of char siu ramen and rice for 1,050 yen around 2 pm on a weekday. I was able to enter the restaurant smoothly, but it quickly filled up with customers. It's definitely a popular place. The ramen had a lot of pork fat, but it wasn't as heavy as I expected. The char siu was cooked just right and remained delicious until the end. This ramen goes well with white rice.

This was my first time eating at this restaurant. I always avoided going during meal times because of the long lines, but when I found out they open at 10am, I decided to go at 10:08. To my surprise, there were already 10 people inside! I was relieved that I didn't have to wait in line. At first, the soup seemed a bit light in flavor and the noodles felt lacking, but as I kept eating, it grew on me. This is truly the classic Kyoto ramen! Delicious! The char siu was also tasty and paired perfectly with rice. The ramen was 700 yen and the rice was 200 yen. I felt so happy and satisfied! Thank you very much!

I went to eat ramen with Mr. Masuta after a long time. I ordered the usual chashu men, and when it arrived, I suddenly felt like I really wanted to eat it. Why is that? This pork fat soy sauce flavor feels just like everyday miso soup to me. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I have been to this long-established ramen shop in Kyoto since I was young. Today, I stopped by on foot after visiting the Ginkaku-ji Temple. It was crowded when I arrived before noon. I ordered the Char Siu ramen with firm noodles and extra green onions, along with a side of rice. The soup was so good that I drank it all. Definitely delicious.

I have been coming here for 35 years and the food is still delicious as ever. This time I had the extra large portion of char siu ramen and I even finished all the soup. The only improvement I would like to see is that when dining at the counter, it can be distracting to have customers waiting in line right behind you. I think it would be better if they waited outside. I would prefer to wait outside as well.

This time, I went to Masuta Hon-ten with a friend on a Saturday holiday. We arrived a little late, about 10 minutes past 10 o'clock. I was prepared for a line outside the store, but luckily we only had to wait inside for a short while. I ordered the morning ramen set for 700 yen. It's important not to rush and place your order as soon as you sit down. Wait for the waitress to come take your order. She will make sure to take everyone's order in order.

The main branch of Ginkakuji may be the first time in 10 years. I eagerly devoured it in no time, but it had a soy sauce base with plenty of pork fat, yet it was not overwhelming in taste. I ordered with lots of chashu and green onions, just like in the old days. Delicious, nostalgic, thank you! I will come again!
