In a quiet residential area, there is a striking building with a magnificent entrance. Upon entering through the curtain, you will see a green garden and a charming Japanese house. Next to the entrance, there is a space selling traditional Japanese sweets, and you must take off your shoes before entering the store. I was seated promptly and enjoyed the view of the beautiful garden from the tatami mat seating area, which was very relaxing. I ordered the Warabimochi for 1400 yen and Matcha for 700 yen. The Warabimochi had a transparent blackish color and was served in a glass dish, giving it a refreshing appearance. The freshly made Warabimochi was soft and stretchy, with a delightful texture as it slowly stretched when lifted. It was sweet enough even without the black honey topping. The luxurious setting of the dry landscape garden and greenery was a perfect place to unwind after sightseeing. The exquisite Warabimochi with its addictive texture was truly exceptional.

I arrived at the restaurant for the first time on Saturday at 2:40 PM and there were two groups ahead of me, but I was called in after 5 minutes. The inside was a tatami room. I tried the fresh bracken rice cake, which was delicious and surprisingly tasty. Since it hardens over time, I ate it quickly, which made my stay short, so I enjoyed the garden with tea. It was a place I would like to visit again.

In a traditional tea room that is over 100 years old, you can enjoy delicious warabi mochi and zenzai while gazing at a Japanese garden. You can wait inside the restaurant, so it's a comfortable option even in the summer. Menu items include: - Warabi Mochi (1400 yen) - Cold Zenzai (1250 yen) - Matcha (700 yen) - Cold Matcha (900 yen)

Visited at 3:30 pm on Sunday and the store was quite crowded, so I decided to get takeout. I tried the Kikusu and Mushinon, both are wagashi. Kikusu had a refined white bean paste that was soft and spread nicely in the mouth, with a good sweetness. Mushinon used carefully selected azuki beans, and the sweet yokan at the bottom was extremely delicious! Next time, I definitely want to enjoy it while looking at the dry landscape in the tatami room. Thank you for the meal! ♡

Visit on a regular afternoon. There seems to be seats available, but you have to order first and then wait to be served, so if the person in front of you is indecisive about the menu, you may have to wait a bit. I also had a hard time deciding, haha. The zenzai was more substantial than it looked, and the warabi mochi was quite sweet. The other menu items also looked delicious. ^_^

Warabi mochi is the best! After a drive with my daughter for brunch, I, who usually don't eat sweets, found myself wanting to eat it again. The warabi mochi I had while gazing at the garden in a cozy tatami room was truly delicious. It was a taste I had never experienced before. Other customers also nodded in agreement and exchanged smiles while enjoying it. I will definitely go back again! ❤️

When it comes to traditional Japanese sweets in Kyoto, the first place that comes to mind is Hoshoen. I visited it 13 years ago and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the sweets were. I had to wait a little before being seated. I tried the seasonal matcha set for 1200 yen and the warabimochi for 1400 yen. While waiting, I enjoyed some cold tea and a small sweet treat. I chose the sunflower-shaped wagashi. The sweetness of the red bean paste was just right, and it was incredibly delicious! I wanted to get some for takeout, but they were sold out, so I ended up taking another sweet treat home. I found out that the warabimochi is made to order. There were also some foreign customers, who ate quietly and politely, blending in with the peaceful atmosphere. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I visited during lunchtime and had a rare chilled white azuki bean dessert. It had a refined taste and aroma different from regular azuki beans. The white mochi was chewy and soft, complementing the azuki beans well. The restaurant had spacious seating, allowing for a relaxed dining experience.

Visited by bus from Kyoto Station. Arrived around 13:30 on a Saturday to avoid crowds, but there were already about three groups waiting. However, it was not too bad as we could wait comfortably indoors. After a short 10-minute wait, we were shown to our seats. The seating was in a spacious room with tables spaced apart, and we sat on cushions. Soon after, the warabi mochi and matcha that we had ordered while waiting arrived. The warabi mochi was incredibly beautiful. You could tell just by looking at it that it was soft and fluffy. When you put it in your mouth, it was smooth, soft, and silky (melts in your mouth). It was delicious without any impurities. I felt torn between wanting to eat it quickly because it was so delicious and feeling like it was a waste to eat it too fast. The price is a bit high, but considering the complimentary cold tea, sweets, and ambiance, it seems reasonable. For some reason, I felt like I had been purified and had a special time.

On a regular day, I visited in the late morning and there were only a few other customers. Many seats were available. While areas like Shijo Street remain crowded as usual, it seems more quiet a little further away. This time, I only ordered the warabi mochi. Once you try the warabi mochi here, any other warabi mochi you eat will pale in comparison. Truly the ultimate warabi mochi. A masterpiece that showcases Kyoto's true strength.

This is a dessert shop located south of Matsugasaki Station, a little south of Kitaoji. It is a tea house located a short distance east of the main store of the traditional Japanese confectionery shop, Housendo. Although it has tatami seating, children under school age are not allowed in the tatami area. Since I was with my grandson, we sat at a special table for families located next to the sales/waiting area. We ordered the recommended chilled zenzai for 1250 yen, the summer limited ice shiruko for 1000 yen, and the warabi mochi that can only be eaten in the store for 1400 yen. The warabi mochi is made with domestically produced warabi powder and topped with Okinawan Hateruma black syrup. While waiting, they serve tea and the "Tamba Kurodaiju" and "Kamo Aoi" soybeans that are sold in the shop. My grandson particularly liked the "Tamba Kurodaiju" soybeans, so we bought some to take home.

I visited "Charyo Hosei," located near Shimogamo Shrine. This restaurant has been selected as one of the top 100 dessert shops in the west on Tabelog for 5 consecutive years and has won THE TABELOG AWARD three times from 2017 to 2019. I have been curious about this place for a while, as it is a famous and popular shop in Kyoto. Despite being a weekday, I was prepared for a wait, but surprisingly there was no line. I have been having good luck lately, and I'm starting to get worried about the backlash. I ordered the warabi mochi, which is made fresh to order. The visual appearance is very fresh and shiny due to the reflection of light. When I tried it, I was amazed. The texture is amazing - chewy, bouncy, smooth, but it doesn't stick to your mouth at all. It has a subtle and elegant flavor, and even though it comes with black syrup, it's honestly not necessary. It's so well-balanced in flavor that you don't need anything else. I was impressed. I also received a complimentary dish of squeezed beans & Kamo Aoi. The squeezed beans are like sweetened red beans, allowing you to enjoy the natural flavor of the beans rather than just the sweetness of sugar. The Kamo Aoi is like amber sugar, but the sugar coating is softer than amber sugar. Both were delicious. Great service, great atmosphere, and of course, great taste. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I visited the restaurant after having lunch. It was the weekend, but there was no line and I was able to enter smoothly. The interior of the restaurant has a cozy Japanese atmosphere. I ordered the specialty menu item, Warabi mochi. The Warabi mochi looked beautiful, made with only real warabi powder and sugar, and has a short shelf life so it must be eaten soon after serving. When I took a bite, it was delightfully chewy and not too sweet, very delicious. I was impressed by the authentic taste of the Warabi mochi. It was also delicious when eaten with the black syrup, which seemed to be of high quality and had a unique flavor. The meal also came with tea and a tea sweet (which was also incredibly tasty), making me very satisfied. I was impressed by the attention to detail, as the Warabi mochi is made to order and not pre-made. It truly showed the craftsmanship of the chef. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The building is over 100 years old. There are 4 tables in the main hall we were guided to, but no one was there. The other hall was full. A couple who arrived later were enjoying the atmosphere by wearing yukatas. The serene and dignified atmosphere in the room, with a cool breeze flowing slowly, was very pleasant. The Japanese garden reflected in the window was beautiful, and the dry landscape garden behind the window was expansive. The gentle sunlight filtering through the window and the warmth of the wooden building created a peaceful mood. The freshly made warabi mochi was unique in texture. It was smooth and chewy, delicately sweet, and had an elegant taste that seemed to reflect the world of Hosei. The additional matcha was refined and delicious. This is a place where you can experience the world of Kyoto tea, and it is worth a visit when traveling. I would love to come back for another blissful moment that can only be experienced here. I visited Hozen Chaya for the first time during the Gion festival, as it was very hot and I wanted a cool treat. I ordered cold zenzai and my partner got ice shiruko. The light sweetness was delicious. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere in the building while admiring the garden. However, the seating was spacious but limited, so there was a bit of a wait. The staff politely reminded the customers next to us that it was time to leave as they were chatting for a while. It seems that lingering is not encouraged here.

During my trip to Kyoto, I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from a friend who lives in Tokyo. It was a small place, but the view of the moss-covered Japanese garden was amazing. The tatami room had plenty of space, and the tables were set up in a very comfortable way. I ordered the chilled white zenzai, which was delicious with elegantly cooked white beans. The portion size was satisfying. My companion had the soft and sticky warabi mochi, which was a delight to eat. Another friend ordered the ice agar jelly with red beans and white beans on top, and the texture and sweetness of the jelly were quite unique. The restaurant had recently been featured on TV, so there was a long line of people waiting outside. We arrived a bit later around 4 pm and still had to wait for about 30 minutes before being seated. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the large number of customers, but it was understandable given the crowded conditions.

Crowdedness: Visited with 2 people on a Monday (holiday) around 2:30 pm. Parking spaces available. The restaurant was full, so we had to write our names on the waiting board and wait. We were about the 5th group in line. We placed our order while waiting. Wait time was about 30 minutes.
Payment Method: iD

- Out of 6 types of fresh sweets, 4 were sold out
- Matcha set: 1200 yen
- Summer clothing (Awakanzashi)

Atmosphere & Service: The entrance area was crowded due to the restaurant's popularity, but the dining area was spacious and calm. You can relax while enjoying delicious tea and sweets while looking at the garden. The service was very polite.
Impression: The warabi mochi was very delicious. It was a shame that there were only a few Japanese sweets left. Thank you for the meal.

It's worth visiting after a trip to Shimogamo Shrine!! The quiet atmosphere, elaborate Japanese sweets, and pure matcha were delicious. The warabi mochi is unique with its cool appearance and elasticity, not available at other locations like Kyoto Station, so it's definitely worth a visit.

I wanted to eat delicious warabi mochi, so I found this shop and visited. I was told to look at the menu and wait here, and was guided to a veranda right by the entrance. Since warabi mochi was the only option, I quickly got up from my seat and looked for souvenirs. I locked onto the Kamo Aoi and was soon guided to the tatami room. What a spacious house! There were many customers, but I didn't feel crowded and was able to relax. As for the warabi mochi, my friend said, "It was better without the black honey drizzle." I agree that once you drizzle black honey, it becomes the dominant taste, but it was still delicious. It might have been even better if we were given a plate to enjoy it as is. Nevertheless, I felt healed by the atmosphere and the cuteness of the dishes in this relaxing summer setting. I bought the delicious looking Mame Kanten and Kamo Aoi as souvenirs on my way out!

I couldn't believe how delicious the mochi was at this place - it was so soft, chewy, and rich. The moment it touched my tongue, the texture and intense flavor were amazing, along with the aroma that filled my mouth when I chewed. The combination with the black syrup was perfect. The quality of the water used was evident not only in the mochi but also in the yokan I bought as a souvenir - my body felt purified. The black beans served as an appetizer were also incredibly delicious, with their natural sweetness shining through.
