Today I got takeout from here. I had a cup of Premio Pistachio gelato from this place in Arashiyama, Kyoto. Even though it was hot outside, the gelato, which has won international awards, was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Gelato shop on the side of Togetsukyo Bridge. They have a few eat-in seats, but it's mostly for takeout. They offer a variety of Japanese flavors like matcha and Sagano tofu. I was aiming for pistachio flavor, but it was sold out at 3 PM on a weekday, so I got sakuramochi and caramelized instead. A double scoop for 550 yen is quite affordable for a tourist spot! Unfortunately, you can't get a triple scoop without a premium flavor, which is a bit disappointing. The flavors were delicious, especially the caramel which had a nice bittersweet burnt taste that both adults and children would enjoy. The sakuramochi was tasty, but lacked the expected "mochi" texture, which was a bit of a letdown. Overall, it was delicious and good value for money, but maybe I had high expectations due to it being a "top 100" shop. I would love to visit again because it was tasty.

I stopped by again because I visited Arashiyama (^o^)◎ Double Gelato ¥650 Lemon Waltz (Premium Flavor) x Hojicha (Standard Flavor) The lemon flavor was refreshing with a hint of lemon peel occasionally, delicious! It was a perfect flavor for summer. The hojicha had a stronger tea taste compared to the matcha float I had last time, and I thought it was rich. Both were delicious in their own way! As a bonus, a cute bear cookie was included as a service ( ̄∀ ̄)

It looks like a pop atmosphere, but this gelato shop ranked 3rd in the Italy International Gelato Competition. They have many unique flavors to choose from, making it fun and delicious. The prices are reasonable! The seating area was full before 2 PM on weekdays. Many people were eating while walking around, making it easy to buy. I had the Premio x Standard for ¥650, choosing Dragon Banana and Pear. The Pear flavor seemed to have less due to the Premio price, but it was incredibly delicious. I wish there was more of it. The Dragon Banana flavor was also tasty, but it mostly tasted like banana. I had known about this shop for a while, but I always overlooked it because it seemed like a place for younger people with character-themed items. However, it was selected as one of the top 100 shops, so I decided to give it a try, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a high-quality shop that I recommend to adults as well. Thank you for the meal!

I visited one of the top 100 ice cream and gelato shops in Kyoto, near the Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama. It was a busy weekend afternoon with a wait of 5 groups ahead of me. The shop had multiple staff members, so the turnover was quick, and I was able to make a purchase in about 5 minutes. Inside the shop, there were benches and tables where you could sit and enjoy your treat. I ordered the Premium Standard for 650 yen, which included the Premium Pistachio and Standard Sakura Mochi flavors. The Pistachio gelato had a smooth texture with bits of pistachio, and a distinct flavor that was not too sweet. The Sakura Mochi had a chewy texture similar to mochi rice cakes and a festive flavor reminiscent of the traditional Japanese sweet. Both flavors were delicious and not overly sweet, making them easy to enjoy. I also found the bear-shaped pie crust on top of the gelato to be cute! I wish I had tried more Kyoto-inspired flavors like Saga tofu or Tamba black bean with kinako.

The Premio Trio for 900 yen allows you to choose 3 types of ice cream in any combination. You can choose one type from the premium category called Premio, which has won awards at the Italian Gelato Competition, and the other two can be from the standard category. The combination is up to you. This time, I chose Pistachio from the Premio category and Watermelon and Sagano Tofu from the standard category. The Pistachio was very rich in flavor with a smooth texture. The Watermelon was fresh and refreshing. The Sagano Tofu used actual tofu in it, so the taste was just like tofu itself! It was a new sensation dessert. The Arashiyama Togetsukyo area was hit with extreme heat on this day, so eating ice cream was a must. As I gazed at the colorful ice cream cases, I felt the desire to try all the flavors, even if it meant risking an upset stomach.

I came to the vicinity of Arashiyama, so I decided to make a detour series. I walked a fair distance from Saga Arashiyama Station. As I approached Togetsukyo Bridge, the number of people increased. Ah, I felt like I was back in the worldly world. I received a premium pistachio, which is a prize-winning work at an international competition. The texture of the pistachio is just right, and the rich pistachio flavor is even more enhanced. Indeed, this is delicious. While I am curious about other flavors, how about starting with pistachio?

Located about a minute's walk from Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad, I stumbled upon this shop while taking a weekday stroll. In 2010, they placed 3rd in the Italy International Gelato Competition, making them the first Japanese gelateria to do so. I ordered the "Premio x Standard" for 650 yen, which consisted of Saga tofu and premium pistachio flavors. The tofu gelato is made using Morioka tofu instead of soy milk, resulting in a smooth texture that was easy to enjoy. I added soy sauce midway through, but it came out too strong, overpowering the original flavors. The pistachio flavor uses pistachios from the Pronto region of Sicily, along with high-quality paste and a hint of matcha from the Shinyachi blend. It had a strong pistachio taste with a complex flavor profile. Overall, it was delicious, and I would love to revisit to try their other flavors.

I visited "Shin Hachi Tea House," which was selected as one of the "Top 100 Ice Cream & Gelato Shops" starting in 2023. The location is in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City. It is about a 2-minute walk from Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad Arashiyama Line. In front of the shop is the Togetsukyo Bridge. The interior of the shop looks like a typical gelato shop, but there is a large trophy displayed. This trophy was won when a Japanese person placed for the first time at the 2010 International Gelato Competition in Italy. This time, I purchased the "Premium Pistachio" flavor. When I tasted it, I could tell that the pistachios were roasted well, giving a strong pistachio flavor compared to raw pistachios. I also felt a fragrant aroma from my nose. The smooth texture with occasional nutty bits was delightful. It was a like an oasis in the middle of a desert on a hot day. Thank you for the delicious treat.

Famous gelato shop in front of Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama. This shop has won awards worldwide. I ordered the Lemon Waltz gelato this time. It has a refreshing citrus flavor with hints of lemon and yuzu. The mint also adds a nice touch, making it perfect for summer. It's a popular shop, but the line moves quickly so you don't have to wait too long to enjoy it.

I went to this shop in Arashiyama, thinking that I absolutely had to try matcha there. There are various dishes and desserts using matcha in Arashiyama, but the matcha sherbet here seemed to be the best for me, so I tried it. It was incredibly rich and had a strong matcha flavor, it was the best!

The gelato in Arashiyama was truly a wonderful experience. In particular, the blueberry yogurt flavor had a rich taste that spread in the mouth, making it truly exquisite. The sweet and sourness of the blueberries and the creaminess of the yogurt harmonized perfectly, with new flavors unfolding with each bite. And let's not forget the matcha ice cream. The uniquely flavorful Japanese matcha accentuated by a hint of sweetness created a refreshing sensation in the mouth, truly embodying the taste of Kyoto. The gelato itself had a smooth and creamy texture, making every bite a delightful experience. The beauty of nature in Arashiyama combined with the delicious gelato made it a dream-like moment. Arashiyama's gelato is a must-try when visiting, as its deliciousness and the beauty of the location will surely leave a lasting memory.

The gelato shop in front of Togetsukyo Bridge has a Japanese-sounding name, but it's actually certified by the Italian Gelato Association. Their pistachio flavor has even won awards! I got a double scoop of milk and matcha flavors. You can choose between a cone or cup, and if you want a waffle cone, it's an extra 100 yen. Both the milk and matcha flavors had a rich taste and a refreshing aftertaste. It's delicious and great value for money. I want to come back to try more flavors!

A few years ago, I visited this shop and decided to go back because I wanted to eat there again after a long time. The shop seems to have become cleaner and more spacious than before. Inside, there are benches and a counter where you can eat. On this day, I chose pistachio and black sesame flavors. The pistachio and lemon gelato, which won an award, is a bit more expensive than the others. Both the pistachio and black sesame flavors have a strong and intense taste, and they are incredibly delicious! It was a hot day, so when I ate outside, it started melting right away, but I definitely want to eat it again!

Arashiyama's recommended gelato shop. There are many Kyoto-like flavors to choose from, making the selection process enjoyable! You can choose between a cup, cone, or waffle cone (+100 yen) to go with your gelato flavor. This time, I chose a cone! ⚠️ Prices vary depending on the flavor! * Standard * Specialie (additional 100-150 yen) * Premio (650 yen and up) The cute bear-shaped biscuit that comes with the gelato is adorable! I got the "Standard Gelato Double" for 550 yen. ✳️ Sakura Mochi ✳️ Sora (Sky) I chose these two flavors! The sakura mochi uses domyoji flour, giving it a chewy texture. The sakura flavor was light and delicious! The sky flavor is a unique gelato made with soda and marshmallows mixed in. It's a taste you crave on a hot day! ⋆ I also got the "Standard Gelato Single" for 450 yen. ✳️ Matcha Ujishima This gelato has a rich matcha flavor with red beans mixed in. I didn't try it myself, but I could smell the nice aroma of matcha from the next table!

The gelato flavor I tried was "Lemon Waltz & Sakura Mochi". The "Lemon Waltz" flavor had a refreshing dance of yuzu, homemade kumquat peel, lemon, mint, and three types of citrus with a minty aroma. The "Sakura Mochi" flavor was a traditional Kyoto confection made with shiratamako flour, featuring the delightful scent of cherry blossoms. Both flavors were delicious, making me want to try more. Unfortunately, the Premio Pistachio flavor was sold out, so I hope to try it next time. You can find more details about the gelato flavors at this link: https://sayakahime2023.fc2.net/blog-entry-275.html Located near the famous Togetsukyo Bridge, Shin Hachi Chaya is a shop that received 3rd place in the Italy International Gelato Competition in 2010. They aim to introduce Japanese ingredients like sakura mochi, Saga tofu, and matcha floating island while preserving the tradition of Italian gelato. Using fresh seasonal ingredients, they bring out the natural flavors and aromas to create authentic and delicious gelato. The shop in front of the Togetsukyo Bridge always has a long line, especially on weekends and during the season. I went to try their matcha ice cream, but it was sold out, so I ended up ordering "roasted green tea" and "lemon" flavors for 650 yen. The roasted green tea flavor was creamy like matcha, not too bitter. The lemon flavor had a slight bitterness and left a refreshing feeling after eating. Apparently, the lemon flavor has won an award in Italy. While you can find ice cream for 300-400 yen around the area, I recommend trying this one if you haven't already.

In the freezing cold, I felt like eating and visited a store that serves Uji matcha gelato. In the summer, there seems to be a long line, but in winter, there was only one customer. The gelato had a cute bear on top as a bonus, which was very soothing. The taste of matcha was very strong in sweetness and flavor. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal. Eating ice cream on a cold day is happiness.

We got gelato to go and enjoyed it while looking at the Katsura River. My friend (left in the photo) had "Sakuramochi" and the seasonal "Halloween (pumpkin and sweet potato)", while I (right in the photo) had "Matcha" and "Sakuramochi". The weather was nice, so we walked around and the gelato tasted delicious on our warm bodies.

I visited this shop located in Arashiyama. I arrived around 5 pm on a holiday, and the place was not crowded at that time, with no waiting line other than us. When I peeked in at around 3 pm, there was a long line, so it seems to be a popular shop. This time, I ordered the pistachio flavor and matcha flavor, which have won awards in a contest, in a half & half combination. The price was around 700 yen, a bit on the expensive side, but the amount of gelato was generous. After trying it, I found that the flavors were strong and distinct, but after eating, I didn't feel thirsty or heavy in the stomach, and my mouth wasn't overwhelmed with sweetness. Both the pistachio and matcha flavors were rich in sweetness, but not overpowering. The pistachio had a strong pistachio aroma, while the matcha had a subtle aroma but the taste changed with the red beans inside. It's a gelato that can be enjoyed by both those with a sweet tooth and those without.
