Nostalgic Western and Japanese music playing in the background, a conveyor belt sushi restaurant where orders are not taken verbally at the counter. Limited drink options, with a focus on dining rather than drinking. Some customers were getting takeout as well. Overall, I think it's a good restaurant. The total bill came to 4037 yen.

I have visited the Japan Sea Gondon store nearly 10 times, and it is a sushi restaurant that I somewhat favor. I first visited about 5 years ago. Before the pandemic, they had a revolving sushi system, but after the pandemic, they completely stopped it. Despite being a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, they serve high-quality authentic sushi with skilled shari (sushi rice), making it comparable to Daio-Edo. The quality here is better than Daio-Edo, but the prices are higher. If you like sushi but don't necessarily need the highest quality every time, this place would be a good match for you. It's easy to end up spending over 5000 yen on items like draft beer, expensive sushi, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), and miso soup. Nevertheless, it's a restaurant that I find myself wanting to visit occasionally.

While on my way to work, I was drawn to a prominent sign on the main street and decided to stop for lunch. When I think of the Sea of Japan, I remember encountering "Murasaki Ika (roll)" at the Sea of Japan in Toyomachi a while back, and my expectations were raised. I immediately ordered the "ika" (squid) and was served with sodeika (firefly squid). These days, with the popularity of conveyor belt sushi, there are specific sushi packs for various types of squid, so using rolls for sushi may not be common. The shrimp was black and thick, and when I tried ordering "three pieces of squid," I was served with sodeika, uzushio monkawa, and fresh spear squid leg pack products, which are the standard lineup nowadays. Overall, the quality of the conveyor belt sushi was not bad, and the prices were not necessarily "cheap," but rather a good value compared to non-conveyor belt sushi restaurants.

A compact conveyor belt sushi restaurant located along the Koto Dori street from Iriya to Asakusa. I entered the restaurant around 6:15 pm on a certain holiday. Although Japan Sea offers not only sushi but also traditional Japanese cuisine, this particular branch focuses on conveyor belt sushi. The restaurant was quite crowded with families during the early evening, but as a solo diner, I was seated without having to wait. Due to the impact of the pandemic, there were no plates rotating on the conveyor belt. I ordered a bottle of beer and requested my usual "gizzard shad" sushi, but unfortunately, it was sold out. I then tried to order "sardine" sushi, only to find out that it was also unavailable. Feeling disappointed as a lover of blue fish, I settled for "horse mackerel" sushi. Despite the delicious quality of the sushi at Japan Sea, my mood was already dampened. I quickly ate a few plates, ordered a side dish, and prepared to leave. The next dish was white fish, served in a battleship-style sushi. It was delicious with no fishy taste. Finally, I ended my meal with a tuna roll, a perfect combination of tuna and seaweed flavors. I only ate about three plates, but that was enough for me to feel satisfied. From entering to paying the bill, the whole experience lasted about 15 minutes. As a disappointed "blue fish enthusiast," I don't think I will make a special trip back to this area.

Dinner alone at 9:40 PM. Decided to grab something to eat and stopped by a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Ordered my favorite iwashi (sardine). The chef said they were out of fresh fish today, so I ordered hamachi (yellowtail) instead. It was delicious. A couple of sushi and a beer helped satisfy my hunger. Noticed they had a sashimi platter on the menu for 1,200 yen. Ordered it and got a plate with 6 types of sashimi. The flavors were average. Ended up just having one plate of sushi (laughs). Thank you for the meal.

I visited Nihonkai Gonten, a non-revolving sushi restaurant in Iriya on a Sunday in July. Despite it being past lunchtime, the place was quite busy with customers and the chefs were energetic. The prices were reasonable and wallet-friendly. I started with a bottle of beer and ordered the "Blue Three" which consisted of one piece each of horse mackerel, sardine, and mackerel for 350 yen. I also ordered the "Salt Trio" which included one piece each of flounder, scallop, and black throat sea perch for 450 yen. The fish was fresh and the sushi was skillfully made, exceeding my expectations. I ended up spending around 5,000 yen, but it was worth it. I highly recommend the "Salt Trio," "Hokkai Trio," and "Shako." The chefs and staff were friendly and I enjoyed my meal and drinks. I will definitely come back again!

I had a solo meal at the conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Iriya while on a work break. I was surprised to see that half of the customers inside were foreigners. The lunchtime service was good, especially the miso soup with sweet shrimp heads, pickled mackerel, and eel. Personally, I prefer the sushi rice to have a bit more vinegar flavor, but the quality of the toppings was high at this conveyor belt sushi restaurant.

I had some errands in Tokyo and it was late at night. I barely made it in time for the last train at Iriya Station. There was a sushi restaurant nearby, so I thought, well, I can just walk if I miss the last train. I asked if they were still open before entering. The staff welcomed me and told me to sit wherever I liked, and I chose a seat at the counter surrounding the kitchen. They had menus in foreign languages with pictures, but the Japanese menu did not have any. Unfortunately, the seared trio was sold out, so I ordered the tuna trio, the white fish trio, shiraou, and gyoku (no picture on the menu). Even though I requested egg without rice, they served it with rice, but I still enjoyed it. All the sushi was very delicious. The sign said they receive fresh fish from Tsukiji Market. Other customers included a group of young men drinking lots of chu-hi and a solo female diner. The prices were reasonable, and it was a great restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I went in the early afternoon, and it was crowded with foreigners, perhaps due to the location. It's a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, but the sushi doesn't actually rotate on a belt. You have to order and have it made for you. The quality of the fish is good and tasty, although the pieces are on the smaller side. The chef makes the sushi right after you order, and the anago (conger eel) was served with warm rice, which was delicious.

When I was studying abroad in Japan, my Japanese friends and I often came here to eat. It's really close to our share house, so we came about once or twice a month. The staff are really friendly, the prices are cheap, and the fish is incredibly delicious. When I was a student, I didn't have much money so I often came to eat the tsukedon. The Sea of Japan is the best!

After returning from a business trip to Vietnam, I had someone pick me up and we went to a sushi restaurant in Iriya. I was in the mood for some casual sushi, so I searched on Tabelog. The rating was low, but I trusted my own eyes after looking at the photos (laughs). First of all, the beer was really good! I ended up drinking three in a row (laughs). The sushi was also high quality! There was a mixed squid platter and a mixed tuna platter! Octopus, bonito! The bonito was especially delicious. It had just the right amount of acidity, and I really liked it. I couldn't help but ask for seconds. Next, there was a mixed white fish platter and salmon roe sushi! And then sardines. The sardines were also delicious with a good amount of fat. The freshness was great! And then clam, conger eel, fatty tuna, and herring! Finally, I finished it off with a cup of oolong tea! Japan and sushi are just the best. I was reminded once again how wonderful Japan is.

It's not a fancy place, but it's cost-effective and easy to go to, so I find it very convenient. I've been there about 3 or 4 times already. I visited the Nihonkai in Tamachi a long time ago, and I wonder if they are part of the same group. However, I hope they improve the attitude of the lady at the reception desk. The sushi chefs are not rude, but she stands out as the only disappointing one. The young foreign woman who was there last time had limited Japanese skills but had a very pleasant demeanor. The sushi tastes good! If they could add more appetizer options, I would probably visit more frequently.

It's a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, but the sushi doesn't actually rotate on a belt. You order and they make it for you, so it feels more like a regular sushi restaurant. In that sense, the cost performance is good, with options like a 3-piece sushi set being a great choice.

I learned from reading this review that this restaurant does not have a revolving belt for sushi. It seems they have stopped it due to COVID-19 measures. The sushi was delicious! They had various types of sushi assortments, not just the typical "X kinds of sushi" sets you find at conveyor belt sushi restaurants. I enjoyed the variety of blue fish and different types of tuna (not just lean or fatty tuna) that you could compare. The atmosphere was friendly and the sushi chefs were easy to talk to. The clientele seemed to be mostly local regulars.

I walked a little from the Inaricho subway station and felt like having sushi for lunch, so I entered this restaurant. It was a conveyor belt sushi place, but you had to order directly from the chef. I ordered some horse mackerel, sardines, and three types of tuna. The sushi was freshly made and delicious. The price was reasonable too. However, as more customers arrived, they started ordering in large quantities, overwhelming the lone chef. I felt a bit out of place in the bustling atmosphere, so I ended up leaving after only eating two plates. I'll try coming back another time.

I ordered a Kanpachi (amberjack) sashimi, octopus head, three types of blue fish marinated bowl (with crab soup) and a bottle of beer for 1512 yen. It's great that they are open until late at night. The taste is average. The price is too cheap, isn't it?

This is the most friendly and delicious restaurant among the Japan Sea chain stores. It's great that it's open late at night, and it maintains just the right distance. It's a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, so you can eat alone or drink alone, making it a place I visit repeatedly. The marinated tuna bowl is delicious, but I always resist and opt for sushi instead.
