Over 20 years ago, this shop was always crowded on weekends and holidays, known as the paradise for matcha parfaits. I was in the mood for hojicha after lunch, so I tried the hojicha parfait. Surprisingly, it wasn't too crowded on weekdays, making it a perfect place to cool off.

When you think of Kyoto, you think of matcha, especially matcha sweets, and among them are the classic cafes that have been serving them for years. Back in my student days, I used to conquer all the menu items - shaved ice in summer, parfaits in other seasons. This time, after a long time, I had the classic Tokurouji Parfait. It was delicious as always! It brought back nostalgic memories of my youth.

I waited in line for about 20 minutes around 1 pm on a national holiday. When I got in line, the staff gave out frozen wet towels, which was much appreciated. The interior of the shop had a pure Japanese style with a nice atmosphere. I ordered the special Toshu-ri parfait (1,595 yen). It was filled with matcha flavor and I was very satisfied.

I stopped by this shop while taking a walk in the Gion district and feeling tired from walking. It is located in the best location facing Shijo Street, making it a perfect place to stop by. Moreover, many dessert shops in this area close at 6 pm, but this one closes at 8 pm (last order at 7:30 pm). The matcha parfait and roasted green tea parfait seem to be popular, but I chose the matcha shaved ice. This shaved ice is extremely refined. They must be using real matcha instead of matcha syrup because the matcha flavor is strong. Even the roasted green tea that comes with it has a rich and refined taste. This must be the standard in Kyoto. The quality of matcha here is different from other areas. However, since this shaved ice costs over 1300 yen, I was hoping for a taste that surpasses the price. It seems like the taste was just okay for the price. By the way, it seems like the pricing system in this area is standard. Kyoto is amazing.

Limited time shaved ice with fine texture and delicious matcha espuma. Inside, there was houjicha jelly. I definitely want to go eat it again. The soba and parfaits are all delicious at this restaurant. The soba comes with a shiratama parfait set. No matter how many times I go, I never get tired of it and always want to go back.

It was Sunday evening and the restaurant was full. On hot days, I always crave for parfait. Matcha Castella Parfait for ¥1102 and Houjicha Parfait for ¥1037 are recommended. Matcha Parfait includes matcha castella, vanilla ice cream, and matcha jelly, while Houjicha Parfait has shiratama, black honey sauce, and houjicha ice cream. Both parfaits are very filling! This famous shop in Kyoto is a must-try.

When you think of Kyoto, you think of Toroli, right? This must be my umpteenth visit. We arrived around noon, so we were able to get in without much of a wait. I tried the Special Toroli Parfait for 1,595 yen. It was delicious, but man, it's expensive, isn't it? I mean, it's Kyoto, so I guess that's why. It wasn't too sweet, and the matcha jelly was just right, but I was a bit disappointed that the parfait ended with tasteless agar jelly. Personally, I prefer if they added flakes or something.

- Shiratama Cream Anmitsu ¥1,111
- Set Matcha Straight Tea ¥649
Established in Uji in 1860, and then opening a shop in Gion in 1948 after the end of the war, "Gion Tsujiri" has been dedicated to Uji tea ever since. Recently, their name can be seen in various collaborations, including with Mister Donut. "Tsujiri" opened as a tea specialty tea house in 1978, known as "Saryo Tsujiri". Located in the heart of Gion, this dessert shop is always bustling with locals and tourists. The shop is on the 2nd and 3rd floors of "Gion Tsujiri". Ordered the "Shiratama Cream Anmitsu" and a set with "Matcha Straight Tea". It arrived in about 10 minutes. The Shiratama, made fresh every morning, is topped with red beans, agar jelly, and matcha ice cream, all drizzled with rich black honey. The chewy Shiratama is delicious. The cold Matcha Straight Tea has a pleasant bitterness and a refreshing taste. The Anmitsu is full of agar jelly, but overall, it's a satisfying sweet treat to enjoy in Gion.

Established for over 150 years, this renowned tea shop offers a lunch menu. While most people come here for their famous parfaits and sweets, there are times when you're not in the mood for something sweet and just want a proper meal. That's when this longstanding establishment comes in with their delicious matcha soba set, priced at 1,804 yen (soba alone is 1,254 yen). The set includes soy milk matcha soba with a healthy and tasty broth flavored with yuzu pepper and sake lees, along with a chewy and rich matcha soba. And of course, you still get to enjoy a fantastic dessert typical of a sweets shop. The standout point is the amazing aroma of sesame oil in the broth. With the elegant atmosphere and delicious flavors unique to this traditional shop, even those who aren't fans of sweets should definitely give it a try. Visit Charyo Tsururi Gion Honten in Kyoto for this delightful experience.

This is the popular sweet shop called Tsujiri Main Store in Kyoto. There is always a long line. Their matcha dessert is a roll-shaped senbei with matcha cream inside. It is crispy and delicious, and the generous portion is perfect for sharing with family.

If you want to eat a parfait near Kawaramachi Station, this is the place to go. You can enjoy a Kyoto-style parfait and other traditional Japanese sweets at this shop. It's recommended for those who want to enjoy sweet treats in a Kyoto-like atmosphere. It's only a 5-minute walk from Hankyu Kyoto Kawaramachi Station.

I visited the cafe on a Sunday. It was crowded inside, possibly due to the rain, but I waited in line for about 20 minutes to get in. You can sample matcha at the souvenir corner on the first floor. All the menu items are delicious, so I want to go again.

The long-established shop called Toruri is a popular place loved by people of all ages and genders. The shop is always crowded with customers and there are no seats available. I got a takeout of matcha latte (hot) and was surprised that it was not too sweet but rather light. They also offer brown rice tea and seasonal limited edition teas like Spring Dandelion for takeout.

I used to often enjoy the special selection Tsujiri parfait for ¥1,595 at "Saryo Tsujiri" run by Gion Tsujiri, a famous Uji tea brand. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, I visited after several years. It's my favorite taste among tea parfaits. The jelly, sponge cake, cream, and ice cream are all matcha flavored. I didn't order it this time, but I also recommend the white soy milk soup with green tea soba noodles.

This was my first visit since the pandemic, about 4 years since my last visit. It was a weekday, so there were only about 6 people in line. I waited for about 20 minutes before being seated. Of course, I ordered the shiratama parfait. When I took the first bite, I almost cried. Without the pandemic, I used to visit Kyoto every year and always made sure to stop by here, so I felt really happy and nostalgic. The soft shiratama was as delicious as ever. I finished it in no time and left the shop. I promised myself to come back soon. It may sound exaggerated, but I am truly moved to be able to return to Kyoto and experience a sense of normalcy.

I have visited the flagship store of Kyoto Isetan's Tsujiri several times, but I never had the chance to visit the main store. However, during a recent trip to Kyoto, I couldn't resist stopping by as I passed by the store during snack time. Although the line was relatively short compared to before, there were quite a few foreign tourists returning, and after waiting for about 20 minutes on the stairs, I finally entered the main store. I usually order the special Tsujiri parfait with matcha, but this time I decided to try the hojicha flavor for the first time. It had a light sweetness and a fragrant roasted green tea flavor, and I finished it in no time. In the past, I used to think that the special Tsujiri parfait was delicious but expensive, but nowadays, with parfaits exceeding 2000 yen not uncommon, I think the quality and price of this parfait are quite reasonable. I will definitely go back to eat when I visit Kyoto again. Maybe I'll go for the special matcha parfait next time.

The white mochi was soft and chewy, with a nice bounce to it, and it was very delicious. It had a rich flavor, but was easy to eat, and seemed to be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders. It paired perfectly with the tea that was served with it, making it a very light and enjoyable treat.

At the end of my trip to Kyoto, I wanted to stop by a sweet shop, so I went in. I had a parfait that used matcha tea in a refreshing way, without being too overwhelming. It had matcha cream, matcha ice cream, and matcha agar jelly, all matcha-flavored. The vanilla ice cream and white mochi in the middle were a nice touch and complemented the matcha well. The terrine that came as a bonus was incredibly delicious. However, when I tried to buy some at the store on my way out, I saw the price and ended up not buying it. It was definitely tasty though.
