Michelin one-star & Tabelog Top 5000. Kaiseki course with a focus on meat dishes. A 6000 yen course enjoyed at the counter. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife, creating a comfortable atmosphere with their perfect balance.
- Plum wine (separate order) with soda. Light and easy to drink.
- Beef miso simmered with egg yolk. The rare miso, simmered in rich consommé, is wrapped in a thin layer of egg yolk, enhancing the flavor. It was so tender that it melted in an instant. I wished I could have savored the broth, but I only had chopsticks and couldn't scoop it up, which was a shame.
- Soup with conger eel and Kamo eggplant. Elegant broth with a refreshing touch of sudachi. The conger eel was moist and tender.
- Sashimi: tuna, sea bream, and another fish I forgot.
- Hors d'oeuvre: scallop and yuba vinegar jelly, fig and white miso, and a fish roll wrapped in kelp.
- Roast beef and egg yolk mousse, tail broth. The creamy mousse had a smooth texture and a rich umami flavor that melted instantly. It was a delightful surprise and my favorite dish!
- Beef and Kamo eggplant in white miso stew. The combination of white miso and beef broth created a deep flavor. The thick, velvety sauce coated the ingredients beautifully, making it incredibly delicious.
- Autumn salmon cooked rice with baby sweet potatoes "mukago." I tried mukago for the first time, and its firm yet creamy texture brought out its flavor as I chewed. I gladly accepted the offer for seconds and appreciated the small portion of red miso soup served with the rice refill.
- Coconut blancmange, sweet potato Mont Blanc. The blancmange was rich in creaminess and jiggly, while the freshly squeezed Mont Blanc was dense and smooth. The sweet potato candied and black sugar jelly allowed for flavor variations. Each dessert was well-executed individually and paired harmoniously. A well-thought-out dessert.
- Fukudaruma caramel. A light baked confection resembling caramel. Discovered at Nishiki Market after finishing the meal. It was adorable. The dishes were all meticulously prepared, allowing me to savor the ingredients. They were visually appealing. The high level of craftsmanship in each dish made me want to revisit. I will continue to support them in the future.

I used the hometown tax payment system to come to a Kyoto lunch. The restaurant was more like a clean, renovated Japanese-style store rather than a traditional townhouse. I reserved a 10,000 yen course for Saturday lunch, and there was only one other group of customers. The counter was a comfortable sunken kotatsu style. The dishes were quite well-seasoned and went well with alcohol, but since I don't drink, I started craving white rice early. However, everything was delicious. The meat dishes were especially good. It was a course meal with a genuine Japanese feel. I don't know much about authentic Japanese cuisine, but thanks to the hometown tax payment system, I was able to enjoy a meal that I wouldn't normally have.

I visited for lunch. The lunch was really good value for money. The variety, quality, and quantity were all excellent. It wasn't flashy, but the food and service were great. Focusing mainly on meat and offering Japanese cuisine, it felt like something that had always been there, yet also something new? To have such quietly amazing food in a town like this... What stood out the most was the meticulous work. I definitely want to visit again at night. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely come back.

I made a lunch reservation based on a recommendation from a senior colleague at work. The restaurant may be a bit hard to find. The counter seats can accommodate about 10 people. [Food] Everything was excellent. The presentation, taste, and attention to detail were all wonderful. I definitely want to come back when I visit Kyoto. The seafood and meat were well-balanced, and I was very satisfied. The course cost 8000 yen, but it was worth it with a variety of dishes. You can only get one refill of the final rice dish (unless the pot is empty), so make sure to go on an empty stomach! The ginger and sea bream flavors made me feel happy. [Atmosphere] The service was very polite, even towards a young person like me. I will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

We enjoyed dinner with our family at the counter. We were expecting a slightly more formal atmosphere, but it turned out to be a relaxed restaurant where we enjoyed our meal. However, since it was in Kyoto, we did feel a bit out of place. The drink options were not casual, so it is definitely a more adult-oriented restaurant.

I visited a small meat-based Japanese restaurant with about 6 counter seats and 1 private room. The place felt new and was run by the owner and a female staff member. They seemed to offer only one course menu for dinner. The dishes included: 1. Beef misji simmered in egg yolk 2. Matsutake mushroom and conger eel steamed in a pot, with plenty of matsutake mushrooms 3. Sashimi platter with fatty tuna, yellowtail, conger eel with plum paste, and sea bream with grated daikon and ponzu sauce 4. Grilled beef tail meat with lotus root puree and fresh wheat gluten 5. Hassun platter with pumpkin topped with walnuts, Spanish mackerel with yuzu-flavored miso glaze, etc. 6. Steamed eel sushi with chestnut base 7. Beef cheek meat simmered in white miso with myoga ginger 8. Rice cooked with shimeji mushrooms and sprouts 9. Dessert Overall, the restaurant's unique feature was the creative use of both fish and meat in their dishes. As a fan of eel, I particularly enjoyed the steamed eel dish. The sake complemented the meal well, and I left feeling satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful meal! o(^o^)o

It was a Michelin restaurant, apparently. It was a refined kaiseki cuisine typical of Kyoto. The dishes were very beautiful. Surprisingly, there were three meat dishes in the kaiseki course. The first meat dish was a simmered beef with yam. The beef cheek was so tender that it melted in the mouth. There was also a thick slice of roast beef on the plate with various other dishes. The roast beef was delicious even without sauce. I enjoyed various flavors such as sea bream roe, egg mousse, and others. I had a dry sake called Kentoku from Jyoyo Sake Brewery in Fushimi. It was very refreshing and delicious when served cold. The sashimi was excellent, especially the striped jack which was firm and tasty. The rice was lightly seasoned with a refreshing taste of ginger. Some people I went with thought it was too bland, but I found it easy to eat since kaiseki meals usually leave me full before reaching the rice. Lastly, I had fruit jelly and coffee. I was pleasantly full, not overly stuffed. It was just the right amount for me.

I had an 8-course lunch here. The atmosphere is quiet and you can enjoy your meal in a calm setting. The flavors are well-balanced and there are plenty of dishes with meat. The courses keep you interested without getting bored. The portions are generous, so you will leave feeling full.

I have been frequenting this wonderful shop in Kyoto lately, and it was truly delicious. The interior is clean and cozy, and the head chef seems very kind. Good shops have good vibes, don't they? The wine selection is reasonably priced, which is nice. They don't overdo it, which is good. And the food was amazing! Japanese cuisine can be hard to judge, but this place was really delicious. The wine just kept flowing (laughs). It started off smoothly and kept up the pace until the end without slowing down! The appetizers were especially impressive. I enjoyed every last bite and left completely satisfied! I definitely want to come back to this place.

Counter 7 seats, 2 private rooms. Lunch is priced at 6000 yen and 8500 yen. The 8500 yen course included miso-wrapped wagyu beef with cherry leaves, bamboo shoots and clams, and yomogi (mugwort) sashimi. The clams were soft and delicious. The yomogi sashimi was a first for me and was amazing. The firefly squid and bonito were simmered in a hot pot, and the tail meat was also very tasty. The baby eel and tail meat were tender and the fibers melted in your mouth. The luxurious eight-piece roast beef was outstanding and I was already full at this point! The simmered dish included lily bulbs, nama-fu (wheat gluten), beef, sea bream, and new ginger rice. I didn't take any leftovers home, so I had two servings because it was so delicious. It's a restaurant that makes you want to bring people along. Thank you for the meal.

We made a reservation in advance and visited the restaurant with two people. We had a lunch course for 7000 yen. Due to the prefectural request, alcohol was not available, so we enjoyed our meal with non-alcoholic drinks at the counter seats. The meal consisted of various dishes such as appetizers, soup, sashimi, warm dishes, rice, miso soup, pickles, and dessert. The combination of meat and Japanese cuisine was interesting, especially for meat lovers. The chef seemed humble and the service was good, despite us being the only customers during the pandemic. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience.

I finally got to visit this place that I've been curious about for a while. I was led to a calm private room, which was a sunken kotatsu style with a bit of a chill on the feet but it warmed up nicely as I got tipsy. As I had heard, the meat kept coming out little by little. The knockout was the last dish, a mixed rice. I will definitely visit again. Hmm, I wonder if I can charm my way in next time?

I visited this restaurant for the first time to try kaiseki cuisine. On this cold day, the interior of the restaurant was warm, and there were heating devices at our feet. The chef served each course at the perfect timing, and each dish was well thought out and delicious. I would like to bring my loved ones here in the future. The owner and the hostess were kind and provided attentive service, making the atmosphere very pleasant.

Lunch at the Michelin one-star restaurant "Shunou Sasagi" in the Kawaramachi area of Kyoto. Priced at 6000 yen per person, the kaiseki lunch started with a delicately prepared dish of miso-glazed Misuji beef with cauliflower sauce and yuzu. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful. The following dishes included a fluffy crab and clam soup, fresh sashimi of amberjack and tuna, and a beautifully presented assortment of dishes including roast beef and simmered daikon. The main course featured beef cheek and cod roe in a warming ginger sauce. The meal ended with a coconut panna cotta dessert with black sugar sauce and fresh fruits. Overall, the meal was elegant and refined, showcasing the natural flavors of the ingredients with just the right amount of seasoning. A satisfying dining experience in a traditional Kyoto style.

Shunou, a traditional Japanese restaurant located on Teramachi Street near Bukkoji Temple, is a Michelin-certified establishment where the chef trained at the renowned Sakurada in Sasaki. The restaurant has a bright and inviting atmosphere, with a beautiful white wood counter that stands out. The dishes are refined and flavorful, pairing well with drinks for a delightful dining experience. The meat dishes were particularly delicious, showcasing the skills honed during the chef's training at Isshin in Gion. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the excitement of each dish until the very end of the meal.

I am very satisfied. The dishes were full of rich flavors. I realized that I love dishes with a yuzu fragrance. I love meat, so the use of it throughout the meal really heightened my enjoyment. It was a shame that I couldn't finish all the food because I was so full. Next time, I want to go with a big appetite and savor every dish. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again. Due to the pandemic, there were very few customers, but it actually made the atmosphere very pleasant (laughs)!

Seasonal flavors of Kyoto cuisine: The atmosphere of the restaurant, the service of the staff, and the taste of the dishes were all fantastic! The floor is sunken into the tatami mat, allowing for a comfortable seating experience where you can stretch your legs. There are counter seats as well as a private room for larger groups. The staff provided detailed explanations of the dishes without being intrusive, striking a perfect balance. Not only were the dishes delicious, but they were also visually stunning. You can tell that each dish was meticulously prepared, and it's a delight to savor them slowly. Overall, the food was so delicious that you wouldn't want to rush through it. *Note: Some dishes were not photographed.

Department Head Gourmet Memo: Kyoto Michelin Restaurant: Sashiki, Isshin-style Meat Kaiseki: Beautiful and dynamic Hassun: A kaiseki meal that even young people can enjoy. I visited "Shun Ai Sasagi" for the first time in a long time. I think the first time I visited was about 7 years ago. The restaurant is located on the southeast side of Teramachi and Bukkoji Street. The exterior is very simple but has a charming atmosphere in a traditional house. You can leave your shoes at the entrance and be guided to the counter seats. The counter seats are in a sunken kotatsu style with plenty of cushions. The quiet owner has a pleasant distance, observing the customers' situation well and serving at the perfect timing, making it safe to leave it to them even for business use. This may be attributed to the training at "Sakurada" and "Isshin" for meat kaiseki, and the harmony between meat kaiseki and Kyoto cuisine is particularly evident in the Hassun, which offers good value for money and high satisfaction. On the day of my visit, I was captivated by the beautiful Hassun and enjoyed seasonal seafood and meat. The atmosphere between the owner and his wife is perfect, making it a versatile and convenient restaurant for both dates and business meetings. *The photos are arranged in the order of service.

I visited on the second night in Kyoto. I made a reservation through Ikyu. The course was 11,500 yen including tax and service charge. We took off our shoes at the entrance and were seated at a spacious counter seat. As soon as we sat down, the counter was fully occupied. We started with beer and grape juice for a toast! The course began with various dishes, mostly Japanese cuisine with a few meat dishes mixed in. The variety was enjoyable and delicious. There were many dishes, each in small portions, but surprisingly filling. My husband switched from beer to sake halfway through the meal. Many Kyoto restaurants do not display prices on their drink menu, but this one did. The husband and wife owners were running the place, so we didn't talk much during the meal, but they were friendly and engaging after serving the dessert. If you plan to visit here, it might be better to have a light lunch beforehand. Overall, it was a delicious meal. Thank you for the feast!

I usually live in Tokyo, so I don't have many opportunities to eat authentic Kyoto cuisine, but my foreign husband and I returned to my hometown Kyoto and decided to try Kyoto cuisine. Both of us love meat and Japanese food, so I chose Sasaki-san, which is known for using a lot of meat. We arrived a little late on Saturday night in Shijo, as the streets were quite crowded. The meal consisted of 9 dishes in total. Everything was delicious without any complaints, well-balanced, and served at a great timing, leaving us full in no time. My husband was also impressed by the Japanese food, which he hadn't had in a while. Since we both love sake, we had Kokuryu and Dassai. We didn't drink much and focused on the food. We are a couple in our 20s, and we often feel out of place in traditional Japanese restaurants, but this place had a relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed the delicious meal. It's one of the places we would like to visit again. In Tokyo, a restaurant of this level would cost around 30,000 yen per person. The cost performance is also great.笑

I visited a friend who lives here on a day trip to Kyoto. I wanted to eat something delicious for lunch because I had to go back the same day, so I asked my friend to find a place for us. We visited a restaurant and had the following dishes:
- Appetizer: Beef and warabi with jellied sauce
- Soup: Yomogi shinjo and bamboo shoot in a bowl
- Sashimi: Tuna, squid, and sea bream
- Assorted dish: White miso salad, firefly squid, Spanish mackerel sushi, egg and beef, low-temperature cooked beef
- Warm dish: Beef and bamboo shoot simmered together
- Rice dish: Sea bream rice
- Dessert: Coconut-flavored Bavarian cream and fruits
I was very happy to have an assorted dish for lunch, and I enjoyed drinking sake with it. The different cooking methods for the meat were all delicious and impressive. I would like to try going there for dinner next time.
