Tonkatsu Hyakumeiten 2022 Selected as the 62nd out of 100 nationwide on Tabelog Overall rating 3.66 Visit date: Saturday, December 10, 2022, 10:30 am Ordered: - Rosu Katsu set (130g) for 1,700 yen - Hire Katsu set (130g) for 1,900 yen Arrived 10 minutes before opening, no wait, so I was able to be first in line. It seems that they reserve some seats in a separate frame for reservations (up to 2 groups of 4 people per hour), so if there is availability at the desired time, you can enter with a reservation. When the store opened, customers came in one after another, and by 10:30, it was already full! It's popular here. There were various famous brand pork on the menu, but since I splurged on a different breed at another tonkatsu hundred famous store last time and couldn't really tell the difference from the basic one, this time I ordered the basic one. The low-temperature cooked Pin Ton took quite a while to be served after ordering, but the serving here was relatively quick. The appearance of the batter was quite white and rough compared to other Pin Ton from different stores. The texture was crispy and crunchy. The meat was juicy and tender! Although it didn't have an overflowing juiciness like in other stores, it became one of the tastiest restaurants I have visited among the tonkatsu hundred famous stores. Also, noteworthy is the Tonjiru (pork miso soup)! A meticulously crafted Tonjiru that was not found in other tonkatsu hundred famous stores! This was a highly delicious Tonjiru that could be considered a specialty. The service was also polite and attentive, making it a very pleasant restaurant experience.

When Mr. Kawamura comes, I recommend splurging a bit on the premium (and super premium?) options. This time, I had the regular pork cutlet and it was delicious. The meat was very tender with tasty fat. However, the premium option I had last time was a whole different level. The regular pork cutlet is delicious enough, but the premium one was unbelievably delicious. The super premium one must be out of this world delicious.

I had some errands in Yamashina and decided to visit a place I had been curious about right after it opened. Despite it being 10:45 am on a weekday, there were already a few customers. I couldn't afford the top-quality option, so I ordered the lunch rib roast cutlet. They said they fry it at a low temperature, so it took about 20 minutes. The rib roast was very flavorful, tender, and juicy. It might be a bit too fatty for older people though. I would love to try the top-quality TOKYO X next time. I wish someone would treat me to it... Thank you for the meal.

Tonkatsu restaurant located in the Yama Science area beyond the mountains from Kyoto. It is within walking distance from the station, but walking under the scorching sun can make you sweat. Reservations are possible, but only up to 2 groups can be reserved for an hour, and the rest of the seats are operated on a first-come, first-served basis. This system is interesting. There was no waiting line when entering, but it was just full so had to wait for about 10 minutes. Initially told to wait for 20-30 minutes, so it was lucky to be seated earlier. The menu is extensive, with about 7 types of brand pork available. Chose the long-aged pork. Thought it might take some time due to low-temperature cooking, but the tonkatsu came out quite quickly. Before that, rice and miso soup were served. In addition to dressing, there were sweet sauce, spicy sauce, soy sauce, salt, etc. Enjoyed the tonkatsu with these condiments. The meat was tender, and the breading was crispy. Didn't feel the condensed umami of aged meat, but it was still a delicious tonkatsu. Moreover, pickles and simmered food were served to eat with rice, and finally, lotus tea was served. This little extra dish was a nice touch, typical of Kyoto, and refreshing. A high-quality tonkatsu that is quite Kyoto-like and well done.

This restaurant's highest-priced aged pork rib loin cutlet (190g) was delicious with a crispy coating. The staff was friendly above all. The pork is from Miyazaki, the rice is Kyoto's Koshihikari, and the miso soup is a blend of Nishikyo white miso and Shinshu miso. The pork soup (with slightly firm meat) costs ¥4,000 (tax included) and PayPay is accepted.

When I came to the Yamashina area, I wanted to visit this tonkatsu restaurant. Even though I had tonkatsu-don yesterday, I couldn't resist coming here. The casual and friendly atmosphere of the restaurant raised my expectations. I ordered the most basic tonkatsu set meal, the loin tonkatsu, from the many options available. While waiting, I noticed a sign saying that it was cooked at a low temperature, so it would take a bit of time. When the loin tonkatsu was served, it had a slightly pink color from the low-temperature cooking method. Just looking at it, you could tell it was moist and tender, which made me even more excited. The refined flavor and fine breading matched the texture of the meat perfectly, and it was delicious! The miso soup was also tasty, and overall, the set meal was excellent. Thank you for the meal!

I visited "Aged Pork Kawamura" in Yamashina-ku, Kyoto City, where I don't usually go. I decided to visit a temple and a restaurant that I wanted to go to. It's rare for a Japanese restaurant to be open from 10:30 in the morning, so I thought it would be empty, but I was wrong! I decided to meditate for about an hour and then visited. The tonkatsu and soba have become high-end items. I ordered the premium rib loin tonkatsu (220g) for 3800 yen. It's quite expensive, making me question the value of food. It's fatty, but the fat is sweet and delicious, and the breading is thin and beautiful, making it a good tonkatsu. They use carefully selected pork from Kagoshima that has been aged for 3-5 weeks. It's indeed fatty, but it was delicious. I also want to try the fillet. The pork soup you drink in Kansai has a strong vegetable flavor and is comforting. There aren't many seats, and cooking takes time, so there may be a long wait. However, the staff made efforts to call waiting customers and take care of them. I think it's a great restaurant. I would like to try their lunch specials next time. Thank you for the meal!

I finally had the opportunity to try the TOKYO X pork cutlet, which I had been wanting to try for a long time. It was very delicious with a sweet taste and a fine texture. I was also very satisfied with the pork simmered in soy sauce and the pork soup, in addition to the tonkatsu.

Got off at JR Yamashina Station and walked south... Around 15:10 with about 20% capacity... Was seated at the counter in the middle... Lunch is until 15:00... Ordered the pork cutlet set meal (90g) with a small portion of rice... All items were ready in about 13 minutes. The pork cutlet was tender and delicious... The sauce didn't differ much between sweet and thick... The cabbage with sesame dressing was okay... The mashed potatoes were bland... The rice was average... The pork miso soup had tender meat and was tasty... Tried the pork simmered in soy sauce, tasted like coffee-flavored sweets... For some reason, hot tea was served at the end... Wonder if there's a reason for that? Paid 1700 yen with a card... Off to the convenience store.

Kawamura specializes in long-aged pork, offering a wide variety of premium cuts from well-known to lesser-known brands. Their menu is unique, with options like "special," "premium," and "super premium" ranks to choose from. I chose the special Kyoto-style long-aged pork loin this time. The tonkatsu had a glossy cut surface, perfect coating, and tender meat, showcasing its high quality even before tasting it. When I took a bite, I could taste the concentrated umami and sweetness of aged meat, along with its tender yet resilient texture. I regret not visiting earlier due to transportation issues, as the taste was exceptional. Additionally, I was lucky to visit during weekday lunchtime and got to enjoy a 100 yen mini curry. The curry, served in a cute container, was quite spicy, so beware if you're not a fan of heat. During weekday lunchtime, you can enjoy Kawamura for 1000-2000 yen, making it a highly recommended spot. The service was excellent, with condiments like Shibazuke pickles, pork tsukudani, and Iwate horohoro pickles on the table. The set also included a ginger-infused pork soup that helped cut through the tonkatsu's richness. If you're in Kyoto and craving tonkatsu, Kawamura is a must-visit spot. Thank you, Kawamura, for the delicious meal!

I called on the same day but the reservation slots were already full. They suggested I come directly to see if they could accommodate me, so I went to the restaurant. There was a line with a wait of 30-40 minutes, so I joined the line. I ordered the top-quality and super top-quality pork cutlets to compare the flavors. The top-quality was delicious, but I should have ordered two of the super top-quality ones. Next time, I will make a reservation and visit again.

I found this restaurant on Tabelog and made a reservation because it seemed very popular. It was fully booked by 12 o'clock and there was still a line waiting afterwards. At the counter seats, there were 2 types of sauces, dressing, soy sauce, and sesame provided. There were also 3 types of side dishes for rice. They offer a large serving of miso soup and you can have up to 3 servings of rice for free. It was amazing. I ordered the daily special for 1500 yen, which was minced cutlet and a bite-sized fillet cutlet. The portion was larger than I expected. The coating was crispy and white. I kept eating the rice side dishes like a rice thief. I almost wanted to get a refill because I ate too much rice, but I was quite full so I gave up. Cold tea was also served in a pitcher, and we were able to have some after the meal. I will definitely visit this place again.

Today's daily special pork cutlet set meal for 1,500 yen or more. Today's menu includes three bite-sized pork cutlets and a minced pork cutlet. It was a weekday after 1 pm, and surprisingly, there was no wait! There was only one empty seat available, while the rest were reserved. The familiar female staff member greeted me with a "long time no see." She remembered me! What great customer service! Despite the restaurant being busy every day with a constant flow of customers, the hospitality is amazing. I look forward to coming here for the delicious tonkatsu and the excellent service from this female staff member! Thank you to the staff member! I quickly ordered the daily special with pork loin and minced cutlet without hesitation. Unfortunately, the aged pork cutlet was already sold out for the day. I opted for extra rice and miso soup, both in large portions. While waiting, I took some photos and got ready. The rice arrived first, and the friendly staff member mentioned that I hadn't been by recently. I explained that I had been busy with work and had been traveling to various places like Hakata, Tokushima, Hiroshima, and Kanagawa. Finally, I was able to come here, and I felt happy. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes! To my surprise, there were three pork loin cutlets! What a generous serving! I first tried it with salt. Delicious! It naturally brought a smile to my face! It was so tasty that it made me smile! Tender and juicy, with no fatty parts, making it suitable for women! As usual, I mixed plenty of Yakushima soy sauce and sesame to create my original sauce, generously pouring it over the tonkatsu! So delicious! I realized today that adding a lot of sesame enhances the flavor! The minced cutlet also had vegetables, providing a good texture and juiciness! The rice, made from Yatsushiro Gibe rice, was glossy and delicious. It's amazing that you can have up to three free rice refills! The miso soup, as always, was full of ingredients and delicious! Although the ginger flavor was lighter than usual, the abundance of vegetables made it irresistible! Don't forget the pork tsukudani, a great accompaniment to rice! It's a dish that can make you eat endless amounts of rice even without the tonkatsu! Just before finishing, the staff member always brings tea at the perfect time! Excellent attention to detail! The meat was excellent, the service was excellent, and the hospitality was excellent! I have become an even bigger fan! I will make sure to find time to come back again! Thank you for the meal!

After a long time, I visited Kawamura, a restaurant known for its aged pork. I was craving for some fatty pork bone...♪ It had been 6 years since my last visit. The restaurant has changed its name to "Kawamura" and it was my first visit since then. It seems they are now open for lunch as well, so it's less crowded if you avoid the peak hours. I ordered the Rib Roast (250g) set meal for 2500 yen including tax. It took about 20 minutes to arrive. The thick and fatty pork cutlet appeared~♪ I enjoyed the juicy pork cutlet with sweet sauce, spicy sauce, and sesame seeds. Recently, there are many pork cutlet restaurants offering various condiments, but I still think pork cutlet is best with tonkatsu sauce♪ It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Yamashina is a part of Kyoto city, but you have to cross a mountain to get there. There is a delicious tonkatsu restaurant there. I made a reservation in advance because it's a bit far and I didn't want to risk it being full. Surprisingly, it's next to Shinpukusaikan, but since I had a reservation, I was able to walk right in. I ordered the premium loin tonkatsu. This time, there were four of us, so we also added shrimp fry and cabbage-filled menchi katsu a la carte. This tonkatsu is deliciously sweet. What is this sweetness made of? The hot tonkatsu with the perfect combination of meat juice and breading is amazing. It's recommended to eat it quickly while it's still hot. Also, the a la carte menchi katsu is excellent. It has a nice kick of spice and a crunchy texture. This is definitely a must-add. It's no wonder this place has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants. Also, the miso that came as a complimentary appetizer was outstanding.

I chose the special prime rib roast. I would love to try the super special one someday. This restaurant is perfect in every way - from the rice, miso soup, cabbage, side dishes, tonkatsu sauce, to the salt. Even the potato salad is exceptional. I bet the regular menu is delicious too. The restaurant is top-notch. Thank you for the meal.

It was my first visit on a weekday to Yamaoike, Kyoto City. The plan was originally for udon, but it suddenly changed to tonkatsu. I arrived in the early afternoon and was able to get a seat without waiting, although the restaurant was almost full. I decided to order the limited thick-cut pork loin tonkatsu set (270g), which takes about 20 minutes to prepare. While waiting, I noticed that the tonkatsu is divided into three ranks: regular, special, and extra special. I ordered the regular tonkatsu, but later regretted not getting the special pork loin set, which is the same price but 130g. The meal was served with a moderate amount of rice, a generous portion of thick and flavorful pork loin tonkatsu, a hearty pork miso soup, fluffy cabbage, potato salad, and cherry tomatoes. Everything was delicious until the end. I would love to visit again.

Tonight, I visited the tonkatsu specialty restaurant called Kawamura in Kyoto Yamashina, which proudly holds a Bib Gourmand award. I ordered the "TOKYO X" premium loin cut made with a brand of pork. The rosy pink color of the cross section is achieved through low-temperature cooking, as you can see. As for the taste, the umami of the pork stands out, the juiciness spreads in the mouth, and it was truly exquisite.

I received a gift voucher for "pork simmered dish" on my last visit, so I came back for the second time riding my bicycle. This time, I ordered the DX daily set meal for 1800 yen. I asked for medium rice and a large serving of miso soup. It came with a combination of menchi katsu and pork fillet. I thought there would be more menchi katsu, but there were actually more pork fillets. The pork fillet was tender, and the menchi katsu had a unique flavor that I had never tasted before, even though it wasn't juicy, it was delicious. The miso soup with a hint of ginger was also tasty. As expected, I ran out of rice, but I resisted the urge to ask for seconds. For 1800 yen, the satisfaction level was high with the deliciousness. The pork simmered dish can be eaten in the restaurant, but the one you receive as a bonus is frozen. It tastes even better at home than in the restaurant. You can also purchase it.

On June 25, 2023, in Kyoto, Yamashina, at Jukusei Buta Kawamura, located at 57-1 Takenokoshi Nishinokuchi-cho, Yamashina-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Closed on Thursdays and 1-2 Mondays per month, with irregular closing days. Operating hours are from 10:30 to 20:00. After enjoying Nagashi Somen in Kibune, we lined up for the highly recommended Tokyo X premium loin cutlet set meal priced at ¥3,200, as seen on @ichiharajunichiro's post. The cross-section was pink, enticing our appetite at first glance. The set came with both sweet and savory sauces, generously sprinkled with sesame seeds. The cutlet was crispy with a burst of juicy flavor and surprisingly light. You can have up to 3 servings of rice for free, allowing you to leave feeling satisfied. We opted for the 130g portion after having soba, but we might have wanted a bit more. It was incredibly delicious. Thank you for the meal. #JukuseiButaKawamura #Kawamura #AgedPork #Tonkatsu #PorkCutlet #LoinCutlet #AgedTonkatsu #KyotoGourmet #YamashinaGourmet #Kyoto #Yamashina

A popular tonkatsu restaurant in Kyoto, Kawamura, offers delicious tonkatsu made with aged pork. Their super premium loin cutlet set with 170g of meat costs 3700 yen, but it's worth it for the quality. It comes with rice and miso soup. They also offer other types of tonkatsu, so it's fun to try different ones if you go with a group. It's recommended to go early or late on Saturdays and Sundays as there is usually a line.
