"I visited Menya Ichi. I arrived early to avoid the long line that forms, just before the evening opening. I decided on the limited 'Clam Dashi Soba (White)' after receiving the menu from the staff. By the time the shop opened, there was already a huge line, with many foreign tourists waiting as well. Once the shop opened, I was seated and my order was ready in about 3 minutes. The bowl looked vibrant, with plenty of toppings, especially the large clams making an impact. I took a sip of the soup, which was sweet and elegant with a strong clam flavor, making it delicious. The noodles were also good, and the toppings, like the bamboo shoots, added a nice taste and texture. The chashu and seaweed were tasty as well. The thick clams paired well with the soup. I finished it in no time and was completely satisfied. When I left the shop, there were more than 30 people waiting in line. Amazing. Thank you for the meal!"

I visited a ramen shop that was featured in the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand and I was very excited! I lined up around 10:55 am and when the shop opened at 11 am, the line started moving forward. I consider the waiting time as a delicious time. When I was waiting inside the shop, I placed my order and was seated. Around 11:50 am, the gyoza arrived! The gyoza had a sweet flavor to it, so I tried it first without any sauce. However, it was too sweet for my liking so I added some sauce and mustard. The price of 550 yen for 2 pieces seemed a bit expensive for the taste. Next, the ramen arrived! I ordered the white broth noodles with extra noodles and a topping of 3 kinds. The soup had a delicious flavor of dashi. After eating half of it, I added the toppings of yuzu peel and grated yam as recommended. The yuzu peel didn't have a strong scent and the grated yam was hard to mix in. I may have added too much grated yam as the taste became too strong. There was a note on the box to add the grated yam little by little, but I missed it. The atmosphere of the ramen shop was clean and simple, with not much explanation about the toppings. The total bill of 2700 yen was a bit too much for me, so I don't think I will visit again.

We visited Michelin ramen restaurant on our honeymoon trip, and arrived a little before the evening session started at 5:30 pm. There was a line of nearly 30 people waiting. When the restaurant opened, the line reduced to about half, and we were given a ticket for the 6:15 pm seating. We arrived on time, and after the staff checked our ticket number, we finally got seated around 6:50 pm. The ramen arrived, and we enjoyed it with grated yam and yuzu as condiments. The light broth and thin noodles were gentle on the body and as time passed, the flavor of the soup intensified with the thin bonito flakes seeping into it. We only slightly altered the taste using the condiments. Waiting for 2 hours was tough, but it was worth it! It may be difficult to come back again, but it's a bowl of ramen that I would like to remember and taste again. Thank you for the meal!

As it is a popular restaurant, I arrived just before 11 am on a holiday and managed to get a last-minute ticket! This time, I ordered the black soy sauce ramen, which was rich yet light and delicious! They also offer unlimited grated yam and yuzu, so you can enjoy various flavors by changing them up.

Arrived at 11:30 on Saturday and received a ticket for a return time of 1:30. Ran errands and returned around 1:00. Waited for about 30 minutes. Noticed that the restaurant had switched to a ticket system for foreign customers. Ordered the White Dashi Soba with seasoned egg for 1550 yen and 2 pieces of gyoza for 500 yen. Watched as they sliced bonito flakes at the counter. The ramen had a generous amount of bonito flakes on top. You can add sliced yuzu peel and tororo kombu at the counter. The broth was delicious, and I enjoyed savoring every drop. The thin noodles were to my liking. Some may find it a bit pricey, but I would definitely come back for more.

It was incredibly delicious. The balance of flavors was perfect. The shumai was also delicious. I tried the pear juice, but it was just okay. I thought they would grate the pear for me based on the name, but they just poured it into a cup, which was a bit disappointing. We were able to get in without waiting in line, which was lucky. After we sat down, there was a decent line outside. Most of the customers were foreigners. The staff were all friendly. The food was so good that we couldn't help but mention it multiple times during our conversation. The restroom was too dark, they should really make it brighter. It's hard to check for cleanliness when it's so dark, especially in a unisex restroom. I almost couldn't see if there was any urine on the toilet seat!

I went at 11:30 on a regular day and was given a ticket for 12:15. When I went back at that time, I had to wait for 30 minutes. It was tough waiting in the heat, but I remembered how delicious it was last time, so I endured it. The awaited white ramen was just as flavorful with a strong broth. This time, I also tried the dumplings, which were filled with plenty of ingredients and seasoned well. About half of the customers were foreigners, and while it may appeal to them, I hope Japanese people will also experience the Kyoto dashi culture and savor the flavors.

I had lunch at a tourist spot. I arrived a little after 11:30, so even though it was a Saturday, I was able to get in without waiting. I ordered the white ramen. The soup was Japanese-style and had a strong dashi flavor. With toppings like grated yam and bonito flakes, I was able to enjoy different flavors throughout the bowl.

The taste is great, but it's enough. The cost performance is the worst. No matter how good it tastes, the price is too high. Thanks to the tourism promotion, the customers are all Chinese. The atmosphere is ruined when they are around. I know it's not the restaurant's fault, but it's a bit disappointing.

While taking a stroll in Kyoto, I happened to come across a shop with a few people waiting outside. After researching and finding out it was in the TOP5000, and looked delicious, I decided to visit the next day. Arriving 15 minutes before opening on a weekday, I was 12th in line. Luckily, I was able to get in after one round of waiting due to the heat. At opening time, there were about 30 people waiting in line. It seems to be a popular shop in Kyoto. The interior had counter seats and table seats, and was spacious. The bright lighting created a clean and pleasant atmosphere. They even provided paper aprons, which was a nice touch. I ordered the White Soy Sauce Broth Ramen with Red Tamago for 1,550 yen. First, I took a sip of the soup. It had a rich umami flavor with a gentle and refined mouthfeel. As I continued to eat, I could taste a pleasant sweetness with a hint of saltiness. The fluffy bonito flakes added an elegant touch. Adding grated yam seaweed enhanced the richness. Adding yuzu peel brought a floral aroma. The White Soy Sauce soup allowed me to savor the delicious broth. The noodles were thin and straight, and a bit soft. As I ate more, I found it slightly monotonous. Maybe adding some sansho pepper or black sesame from the table would have been good? The toppings included thinly sliced 0.01mm bonito flakes, chashu, bamboo shoots, seaweed, chopped green onions, white onions, and a seasoned egg. The chashu was thinly sliced and tender, with a subtle richness. The bamboo shoots were crunchy with a sweet flavor. The semi-soft boiled egg was also sweet. Overall, the ramen had a sweet finish, which I personally enjoyed. A refined and sweet ramen with delicious broth. I'm glad I was able to enjoy popular ramen with long lines in Kyoto.

In Kyoto's Shijo Kawaramachi, there is a popular restaurant that always has a long line. It is not only the best in the area, but has also received Michelin recognition. Despite the long line, the way they handle customers is not very efficient. They periodically come out to distribute time-specific tickets to those waiting in line. If you try to line up after 12:30, you probably won't be able to eat during the lunch hours. When your time comes, you exchange your ticket for a laminated menu and then join the line inside the partition. You'll be served your dish around 30 minutes after your ticket time. The restaurant has 8 counter seats and 2 tables for 4 people each. There are many foreign customers. I ordered the Red Miso Tamago Soba with White Soy Sauce (1,550 yen) and added Gyoza (550 yen). The broth had a rich bonito aroma, and it was undeniably delicious. The Chashu pork was perfectly sliced, and the green onions added a great flavor. The seasoned egg paired well with the broth. The noodles were straight and had a great texture with the soup. The balance of flavors was exceptional. Towards the end of the meal, the gyoza arrived, and although it was tasty, it was not as good as the one from another famous restaurant in Kyoto. Overall, it was a fantastic ramen experience that resonated with the traditional image of Kyoto. The turnover rate is slow due to the high number of foreign customers, but it's all part of the experience of enjoying Kyoto's representative ramen.

In Kyoto, known for its fierce ramen competition, I visited a highly-rated restaurant that was selected by Michelin and received high reviews on Tabelog during my solo weekend trip focused on gourmet dining. I arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes before opening on Saturday at around 10:30 am, with about 10 customers already in line. Every 10 minutes, another 10 people joined the queue.
[Food]
- Dashi soba (shiro shoyu) ¥1,400
- Topping trio ¥500
I ordered the classic ramen with popular toppings. The standout feature was the soup, which combined the concentrated delicate umami and sweetness of bonito flakes with the richness of white soy sauce, creating a smooth yet memorable flavor. The whole wheat noodles were supple. I personally recommend the toppings as well - the flavorful bamboo shoots, tender chashu, and classic seasoned egg were all delicious.
[Staff & Building]
The staff's attention to detail, such as adjusting the orientation of condiments for customers after they finish their meal, and their pleasant greetings, were exceptionally welcoming. The exterior and interior of the restaurant exuded cleanliness, and the spacious layout with 8 counter seats and 2 table seats allowed for a relaxed dining experience. Due to its location adjacent to the road, if the front of the restaurant becomes crowded, they may issue time-specific tickets for entry.
[Ambiance & Audience]
The restaurant's ambiance was enhanced by the calming UK jazz background music. The presence of many foreign tourists may be attributed to the staff's English proficiency. It seemed like a place where solo diners, couples, tourists, and people of all ages and genders could enjoy themselves.
Overall, the delicious flavors were truly satisfying. This restaurant is a must-visit in Kyoto, and it makes me want to return to Kyoto just to have their ramen. It was a delightful dining experience.

Ordered the Char-grilled Wagyu Soba Shiro. Went to a Michelin-selected ramen shop on a weekday at a strange time, so there were only two people waiting. We were seated right away. Lucky!
Dashi Soba: The noodles are thin, the broth is bonito-based with a rich flavor and not too salty. The toppings include seasoned soft-boiled egg, bamboo shoots menma, green onions, seaweed, freshly shaved bonito flakes. The Wagyu beef was a bit tough, and seemed like it was geared towards foreign customers. There was some fat floating on top, so if you want to enjoy the delicious broth, the basic option is recommended. The grated tororo kelp on the table is free. It's even better when added halfway through the ramen! It seems like there are times when you have to wait for over an hour, so I'm not sure if it's worth it to wait in line. Maybe the black version would have been more to my liking! Next time, I'll order the black one.

Overwhelming completion! I lined up around midday on a regular day and waited for about 45 minutes... but this wait time only heightened my expectations, haha. This time, I had the clear broth soba with seasoned red egg (white soy sauce) 【1550 yen】. As I was waiting and thinking that ramen has become more expensive, it arrived. The clear soup with delicious meat and egg looked amazing. When I took a sip of the soup, I was surprised by its perfection and depth of flavor... it's irresistible. This restaurant is worth lining up for... definitely check it out!

This is a popular restaurant in Kyoto. The store is clean and the staff are used to handling crowds, so the guidance was very smooth and the 30-minute wait was not stressful. I tried both the black and white ramen, and both had a rich broth and were elegant. I would like to come back again next time.

In Kyoto, the popular ramen shop, Inoichi, is definitely worth a visit! The noodles have a great texture, the soup has a rich flavor, and the special char siu is perfectly tender and cooked. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is calm and relaxing, allowing for a leisurely meal. However, it tends to be crowded, so it's best to go early or adjust your timing. Overall, it was a satisfying bowl of ramen! I definitely want to come back to this restaurant next time! If you're in Kyoto, be sure to check it out!

The restaurant had a wait of 2 people 40 minutes before opening on a regular day. Just as I felt relieved to have lined up, a group arrived and the place filled up quickly. Right before opening, there was a line of over 20 people. I ordered the seasonal cold Wagyu beef seared soba with a white seasoned egg on top. The broth was flavorful with each ingredient adding an elegant touch. Adding grated yam and eating it with wasabi was also delicious. The condiment used was from Hararyokaku in Kyoto, and every place that uses it has never been a disappointment. The staff were all friendly and welcoming.

It was a visit on Saturday at 10:30. Despite being 30 minutes before opening, there were already 22 customers ahead of us. We had to wait outside for about an hour as we couldn't get in with the first group. They started distributing time-specific tickets to customers after the 35th person at opening time. It seemed like the last order was at 2 p.m. Once seated, our food arrived in about 10 minutes as we had already placed our order. The soup, made without any animal products, was light yet flavorful with a nice depth. The bonito flakes added a nice touch, and they paired well with the noodles. The chashu was delicious too! There were a lot of foreign customers, but everyone seemed to be enjoying the food seriously. The service was polite, and I would definitely consider revisiting this restaurant.

The dashi soba with white soy sauce broth and black soy sauce (to share among multiple people) and the seared chashu rice bowl with red yolk on top are both delicious dishes. The white soy sauce broth has a refined and elegant taste that is unique to Japan, with a light and distinctively Japanese flavor. The freshly shaved bonito flakes bring out the umami flavor. The black soy sauce broth pairs well with the seared wagyu beef topping, creating a perfect combination. The broth is richer than the white soy sauce, which enhances the harmony with the beef. However, the white soy sauce broth and seared wagyu have different tastes and might not complement each other. The ramen shop in Kyoto is well-known and worth waiting for about an hour (even on a Sunday, 30 minutes after opening). The main shop operates on a ticket system where you get a ticket and line up at your designated time. Overall, the food is delicious and worth the wait.

The broth is delicious and light, so you won't feel guilty after eating. I ordered a drinking salad (smoothie), recommended dumplings, and white dashi ramen with an egg topping. The katsuobushi broth was so good that I wanted to soak it up with a handkerchief (just kidding). It's usually impossible to get into this restaurant in 5 minutes, so be prepared to wait for over an hour. To avoid that, try lining up at least 30 minutes before opening and aim to get in on the first round. I've only been on weekdays, so it might be different on weekends and holidays.
