I found a donut shop that I really love! I had been to a famous donut shop before, but I didn't remember anything special, so I thought maybe I didn't have a preference for donuts. However, today I encountered a perfect donut shop and felt full of satisfaction and happiness. It is located in one of the shopping streets near Shijo Kawaramachi, with a bold and stylish exterior made of glass and lighting. The interior of the shop is surprisingly deep, with decorations resembling a cave. They offer a wide variety of donuts with unique styles and flavors, blending traditional and modern Japanese influences with a new fusion twist. After much deliberation, I chose three different donuts: traditional baked donut (plain), chewy donut (kinako), and fluffy lemon meringue donut (with a bread-like dough). Each had its own distinctive texture and flavor profile, and they were all delicious. The kinako donut had a chewy and crispy texture that I love, with a well-balanced flavor. The baked donut was slightly dry but paired well with a drink, offering a thick and soft taste. The meringue on the lemon donut was an interesting addition, more like a meringue dough than traditional meringue, with a brioche-like structure and unexpected elements. While none of them were perfect or extraordinary, they all provided a satisfying and delicious experience. The atmosphere inside the shop, with many cute round sweets lined up, made me feel extremely joyful and I thought it was an experience that could only be found here.

I came to Kyoto wearing a kimono. The weather was sunny but then it started raining, and the lingering summer heat was still intense. I wore a kimono with a lily and nadeshiko pattern, and tied a linen obi with a Tsuruasobi design. I decided to visit a unique store that caught my attention, located a short walk from Shijo-dori in the Shin Kyogoku shopping street. Upon searching, I found out it was koe donuts, a donut factory with a theme of Ethical & Wellness. The interior was spacious with a concrete design, and the dome-shaped ceiling was adorned with 572 traditional bamboo baskets made from Arashiyama bamboo. It was a surreal and modern Japanese space designed by architect Kengo Kuma. I selected a dango donut with organic strawberry for 260 yen and a banana juice for 650 yen from the donut sales booth and chose to sit at the sofa seat at the back. The banana juice made from a whole organic banana was naturally sweet with a smooth banana flavor and a hint of pulp. The dango donut with organic strawberry consisted of three round donuts lined up on a skewer like dango. The icing made with organic strawberries had a strong sweetness with a hint of strawberry tartness as an accent. The donut itself had a mild sweetness and a texture similar to a baby castella. The initially empty store gradually filled up, especially with foreign customers drawn to the Japanese ambiance.

I went all the way to Kyoto, so I wanted to visit a nice cafe as well. That's why I went to "koedonuts" in Shin Kyogoku. It opened in 2019 and was quite popular on TV, especially for its bamboo basket ceiling. The store design was done by Kengo Kuma, who also designed the National Stadium. There were many different types of donuts available, including ones that looked like traditional Japanese rice cakes with bamboo skewers. You could pick up pre-made donuts or order custom ones at the counter. The drinks ranged from simple to elaborate. I chose an iced Earl Grey tea for ¥550. I took a photo in front of the neon sign featuring a donut scientist, which looked more like Einstein with a donut... I mean, it's an original character. You could eat in or take out the donuts. I chose the Donut Melt Strawberry for ¥980, which was made fresh at the counter. It had fresh strawberries, a rich strawberry sauce, and cream sandwiched between baked donuts. It was like eating a shortcake. The seating was spacious, and I could watch them making donuts from my seat. I also got some donuts to go, which were a bit sparse in the box. The Organic Strawberry donut had a Japanese-style rice cake look with strawberry cream on top. The Rum Raisin Cruller had rum raisin flavored cream and a slightly transparent dough. Overall, it was a nice place for a break.

This is an entrance area with a stylish vibe similar to an Apple Store. There is a cafe space in the back where you can enjoy a leisurely meal. They have dango donuts which are perfect for a light snack. They also offer matcha-flavored options, giving off a Kyoto vibe. These donuts come in a variety of flavors and designs, making the selection process enjoyable. Great for souvenirs too!

For breakfast, I had iced coffee and a donut. I had eaten too much starchy food the night before and was feeling a bit of indigestion, so I was looking for something light to eat. However, the donut I chose was not exactly light, haha. The restaurant was spacious and since it was early in the morning, there were plenty of empty seats. There were many different types of donuts to choose from, ranging from rich chocolate flavors to refreshing lemon. I would like to go back again if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal!

I had a delicious tsukemen (dipping noodles) at a cafe and felt like my stomach was going to burst, so I decided to take a rest. While sitting at the counter, I saw a stylish doughnut shop across the window that I had never seen before. I couldn't resist and went inside. I decided to have the doughnuts for breakfast the next morning. The shop was trendy with lots of baskets hanging from the ceiling. It was spacious and filled with women. I wondered who they were going to eat the doughnuts with. I lined up to choose my doughnuts and then lined up to pay. I bought four doughnuts (anpan butter cruller, fluffy caramel butterscotch, fermented butter sugar something, fluffy Japanese sugar glaze) and enjoyed them at home. Although they weren't as sweet as they looked, the anpan butter was the most delicious with its rich fats and sugars.

Mochi Mochi Koedonuts (Plain): 220 yen at a cafe in Kyoto. We decided on a dinner spot near Kyoto Kawaramachi Station and took a break at this cafe. The atmosphere was different from the bustling street in front of us, with a stylish and spacious space that felt like we were at a donut factory, yet with a Japanese touch. We sat at a counter seat where we could see the process of coating donuts and cookies, which was advertised as an interactive experience. It was fun to take a break while watching the process that we don't usually see. The classic plain donut was delicious. It had a stretchy and fresh mochi-like texture, different from a typical pon de ring. I regret not taking a picture with the Koedonuts in it, as I was feeling tired.

I found a stylish donut shop with an eye-catching exterior. The interior is also stylish, with a large cafe-like atmosphere and plenty of seating for eating in. The cafe menu seems to be well-stocked, but I had just finished tea so I opted for takeout. I think it was called a Plain Scramble Donut? The Blueberry Donut wasn't too sweet and the taste was delicious, but it felt quite oily, which was a slight downside for me. Thank you for the meal.

The interior of the shop is a stylish space with a Kyoto-like atmosphere. I was curious about the taste, but it turned out to be good. The Old Fashioned, French Cruller, and Sugared Raised were all delicious. The Old Fashioned was deeply satisfying. However, the standout was the French Cruller, it was truly impressive. The delicate sweetness of the first-class refined sugar, and the happiness that slowly spreads beyond the elasticity, was the best. This is what a French Cruller is all about.

Price only for the items in the photo.

After having lunch, I wasn't hungry so I had a banana juice instead! I wanted to eat a donut since I was at a donut shop, but I was already full so I couldn't. The shop was always full and the air conditioning wasn't working well. It seemed like the staff didn't have time to tidy up the tables and chairs. I was intrigued by the cute cookies in a can! The cookies looked like donuts and were so cute ♡

A donut shop located on Shin-Kyogoku Street, just off of Shijo Street. However, this is not your ordinary donut shop. They offer high-end and healthy donuts. The stylish exterior of the shop is quite surprising. The interior is spacious and classy, with a glass-walled kitchen that adds a sophisticated touch. The donuts themselves are not your typical sweet treats, with a restrained sweetness and unique flavors. They aim to create donuts that you can enjoy with a knife and fork. It all makes sense once you try them.

The atmosphere of the shop is extremely stylish! They offer a variety of donuts from simple ones to ones with delicious-looking toppings. This time, I tried the black sugar kinako and the Mont Blanc-like donuts for eat-in. The flavors were simple and delicious. The Mont Blanc donut was not wrapped in paper, but they put it in a paper with a print of Nagaba-san's illustration at the time of payment! Nagaba-san's illustrations are displayed everywhere in the shop, and there are also spots for taking photos! The stylish interior and Nagaba-san's illustrations were really nice, and the atmosphere was great. There were also outlets available for charging inside the shop. I went there around 11 o'clock, so there were still relatively empty seats and I was able to purchase smoothly without waiting in a long line. It seems that this shop is only in Kyoto, so I plan to visit again when I travel to Kyoto.

I visited around 6:00 pm, so the selection was not the best, but it was understandable considering the time. The donuts were light and easy to eat, with a very gentle flavor which was nice. The shop has plenty of seating, so you can relax and take your time.

I purchased organic chocolate for 260 yen and a salt lemon sugar cruller for 306 yen for takeout use, not for dining in at the cafe. The texture is a bit chewy, not light but slightly heavy. It's not too sweet, which I think is good. Maybe after lunchtime, there will be a line, around 10 o'clock perhaps, as there wasn't much foot traffic since other shops around were still closed.

I was torn between getting takeout or dining in, but I decided to order the Donut Melts Strawberry, which is only available for dine-in. I mistakenly thought it would have a moderate firmness, but it was actually moist and fluffy, almost like it could be cut with just a fork. The balance between the cream and the donut was just right and it was delicious.

The shop is stylish and cute! There were so many types of donuts that I had a hard time choosing. Among the ones I chose, I liked the blueberry the best! Generally, the sweetness is on the mild side. The 5-color beans had a nice balance of sweetness from the beans, and the roasted green tea chocolate had a subtle fragrance that came through afterwards. It was a takeout, so I would like to visit for dining in someday.

I bought some donuts as a souvenir for takeout. There were many types to choose from, but I decided on the fried donuts rather than the baked ones. Personally, I enjoyed the donuts coated with wasanbon sugar, which had a nice texture and sweetness that went well with coffee. The interior of the shop is stylish, and there were many tourists there.

I had been curious and made a reservation to visit the cookie shop. Both the donuts and cookies were delicious. I want to go back when I visit Kyoto again. The shop is stylish and well-designed by Kengo Kuma, with a beautiful bamboo ceiling. There were also many foreign customers.
