After a long time, I felt like eating tempura, so I searched for a restaurant in Shinbashi on Tabelog and luckily found one. I arrived at a rundown building and saw a faded menu sign. I climbed the stairs and entered the restaurant called Ikeda, which had a cozy atmosphere thanks to the owner couple. The tension I felt earlier disappeared, and I was seated at a table where I could see the TV well. They immediately provided me with a hot towel and cold tea. After placing my order verbally, I noticed a small mysterious wooden box on the table. I opened it to find a toothpick holder popping out, showing a playful touch. The food arrived: Tempura set meal for 1000 yen, including main dish, rice, miso soup, pickles, and tempura dipping sauce. The tempura included two shrimp, horse mackerel tempura, lotus root, eggplant, pumpkin, onion, shiso leaf tempura, and lemon slices. Each tempura had a thick and moist batter. I started with the shrimp tempura, soaking it in the dipping sauce to savor the unique flavor. The rice bowl was generously filled, probably around 300g, offering a satisfying meal. The cabbage pickles refreshed my palate after the oily tempura. The miso soup was hearty with tofu, daikon, fried tofu, and seaweed, served piping hot which I enjoyed. I savored each tempura piece, trying to identify the two unknown ingredients, likely onion and horse mackerel. I finished by squeezing lemon over the shrimp tempura, adding a different deliciousness. I ate quickly and finished everything. The other diners seemed to be regulars, and despite the location's disadvantage, once you develop a liking for their dishes, you'll become a repeat customer. Their tempura ingredients vary, keeping things interesting. This restaurant has become a valuable place in Shinbashi where you can easily enjoy tempura, especially since the closure of the previous tempura shop. I hope to join the ranks of their regular customers. Thank you for the meal.
