This is a quiet tempura restaurant on the second floor of a building. It's easy to miss because the sign below it belongs to a different store. I almost gave up thinking it was closed until I found the staircase on the left side of the building leading to the second floor. The tempura set meal, tempura rice bowl set meal, and simmered fish set meal are all 1000 yen each. Despite the recent price increase, it's still an unbelievable deal. I ordered the tempura rice bowl set meal for 1000 yen. When I said "Donburi desu," the elderly man with white eyebrows nodded silently. Impressive. I was amazed when the tempura rice bowl arrived. It looks like it could easily cost 1980 yen or more. By the way, before eating an Edomae tempura rice bowl, let me say this: Some people complain that it's not crispy enough or too moist, but that's a misunderstanding. Traditionally, Edomae tempura rice bowls are meant to be crispy, then dipped in sauce, placed on rice, and covered to let the flavors meld together. (Note: This restaurant doesn't cover the bowl). Even though it's small, it has two shrimp and the batter is not overly thick. It's not made with super expensive ingredients, but it was a very good tempura rice bowl. I happily told them it was delicious before leaving.

After a long time, I felt like eating tempura, so I searched for a restaurant in Shinbashi on Tabelog and luckily found one. I arrived at a rundown building and saw a faded menu sign. I climbed the stairs and entered the restaurant called Ikeda, which had a cozy atmosphere thanks to the owner couple. The tension I felt earlier disappeared, and I was seated at a table where I could see the TV well. They immediately provided me with a hot towel and cold tea. After placing my order verbally, I noticed a small mysterious wooden box on the table. I opened it to find a toothpick holder popping out, showing a playful touch. The food arrived: Tempura set meal for 1000 yen, including main dish, rice, miso soup, pickles, and tempura dipping sauce. The tempura included two shrimp, horse mackerel tempura, lotus root, eggplant, pumpkin, onion, shiso leaf tempura, and lemon slices. Each tempura had a thick and moist batter. I started with the shrimp tempura, soaking it in the dipping sauce to savor the unique flavor. The rice bowl was generously filled, probably around 300g, offering a satisfying meal. The cabbage pickles refreshed my palate after the oily tempura. The miso soup was hearty with tofu, daikon, fried tofu, and seaweed, served piping hot which I enjoyed. I savored each tempura piece, trying to identify the two unknown ingredients, likely onion and horse mackerel. I finished by squeezing lemon over the shrimp tempura, adding a different deliciousness. I ate quickly and finished everything. The other diners seemed to be regulars, and despite the location's disadvantage, once you develop a liking for their dishes, you'll become a repeat customer. Their tempura ingredients vary, keeping things interesting. This restaurant has become a valuable place in Shinbashi where you can easily enjoy tempura, especially since the closure of the previous tempura shop. I hope to join the ranks of their regular customers. Thank you for the meal.

I visited for lunch today and ordered the "tempura set meal". The contents of the tempura seem to vary slightly depending on the day, but it always includes 2 pieces of shrimp tempura. I love the firm texture of the shrimp, but the eggplant, which is in season now, was also very delicious. Today, I squeezed some lemon over the shrimp tempura, which was different from the usual tempura dipping sauce but still very tasty. Thank you for the meal.

I had lunch there. When I entered, I was alone so I could sit at a table. I ordered the "tempura set meal" as planned. The tempura sauce was a bit light, but it was within my acceptable range of preference. If I had to ask for more, I would have liked more grated daikon radish. There were a lot of tempura pieces. They were delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Today I had a tempura bowl. It had a lot of ingredients such as 2 shrimp tempura, eel tempura, pumpkin, lotus root, shiso leaf, small fish (smelt?), and eggplant. The restaurant was small and cozy. The miso soup was red miso. It was delicious, but the sauce was a bit lighter than I prefer. They also offer a tempura set meal, so I would like to try that next time. Thank you for the meal.

After referring to the reviews of Toranomon and Shinbashi on MyRebi, I decided to try this place based on their recommendation. Even though I was wandering around, I somehow ended up here! I didn't even know about this place, unless it was a famous restaurant. Frustratingly (laughs). One day, I decided to verify it. When I checked on Google Maps, it was located on the second floor of an old mixed-use building, deep inside. Both of you found it during location shooting, right? It was around 12:15 on a weekday. There were already customers at the table in the back. Even though I was alone, I was guided to a raised seating area. I ordered the tempura set meal. The elderly couple who worked together in this restaurant had a great teamwork. The set meal that was served was already satisfying just by looking at it. And it only cost 1000 yen. Plus, they even apologized, saying, "I'm sorry. We recently raised the prices," even though it was my first time there (laughs). Honestly, I felt that the taste of each ingredient was a bit shallow, but it was more than enough for a lunch. Next time, I'll try the rice bowl. I'm grateful to both of you.

In early May 2023, I visited a place for a 1000 yen lunch of tempura rice bowl. The restaurant is located on the second floor of an old building near Ueno exit of Shinbashi Station. The interior of the restaurant looked quite old with 14 tatami seats, 5 table seats, and 1 counter seat. The elderly couple who run the place were in charge. During the early lunchtime, there was only one customer before me and three customers came in after. When I ordered the tempura rice bowl, the owner fried the tempura and served it in a bowl after about 15 minutes. It came with cabbage pickles and miso soup. The tempura was plentiful with shrimp, conger eel, lotus root, eggplant, shiso leaf, enoki mushroom, pumpkin, chicken, and shiitake mushrooms. The frying was crispy and well done. The ingredients like shrimp and conger eel were average. However, I found the taste of the tempura sauce a bit light and lacking for my liking. My companion ordered the tempura set meal, which had a slightly different composition of tempura compared to the tempura rice bowl. The tempura dipping sauce here was also a bit light and refreshing. We finished our meals quickly and it was a satisfying experience.

Ikebukuro @ Shinbashi Tempura Donburi ¥1000 It's been a month since I last visited Ikebukuro. The tempura, coated in an elegant and light donburi sauce, consisted of two prawns, anago (conger eel), white fish, lotus root, eggplant, pumpkin, shiso leaf, enoki mushroom, and shiitake mushroom. Today's tempura was fluffy with delicious anago and juicy prawns! #Shinbashi #ShinbashiLunch #TempuraIkebukuro #TempuraSet #TempuraDonburi #JapaneseRestaurant #Tabelog

Tempura Ikeda @ Shinbashi Tempura Bowl ¥1000 Two shrimp, eel, white fish, lotus root, shiso leaf, pumpkin, shiitake mushroom, eggplant, enoki mushroom, a total of ten tempura pieces with a light and crispy coating. The sauce is subtle to let the flavors of the ingredients shine. The shrimp may be slightly small, but you get two of them, and today's eel is also a generous portion. From April, the tempura set meal and tempura bowl have increased to ¥1000, but it is still a great deal. #Shinbashi #ShinbashiLunch #TempuraIkeda #TempuraSetMeal #TempuraBowl #Kaiseki #Tabelog

I always see MyRebi's posts and saw a post saying there's a delicious tempura restaurant that rivals Kanda Imoyasan, so I decided to visit! It was on the second floor, but when I opened the sliding door, it seemed like they were preparing something? The tempura restaurant is on the second floor!! They kindly guided me to the staircase next to the shop and I found a hidden gem! I tried the rumored tempura set meal for 900 yen. Just as the reviews said, the tempura was overflowing with goodness! It included 2 shrimp, anago, kibinago sashimi tempura, eggplant, donko with large perilla leaves, pumpkin, nori tempura, and it was like facing King Ghidorah. The tempura dipping sauce was a light ginger-flavored sauce. It also came with a lemon wedge for flavor variation. The rice portion was quite generous and fluffy. The miso soup had grated egg, daikon, and tofu, a comforting taste like home cooking. The pickled cabbage was a perfect palate cleanser. I never realized there was such a reasonable restaurant hidden on the second floor of a back alley. Moreover, the retro interior of the shop creates a relaxed atmosphere, like leaving behind the hustle and bustle of Shinbashi. The landmark is Makochan, the yakiton shop next to the first floor. I am grateful to MyRebi for introducing me to such a great restaurant. The keen sense of taste in food is truly impressive! Thank you for the delicious meal.

Today's tempura set meal is ¥900. It includes lightly fried tempura of ten varieties, cabbage pickles, and a mild miso soup. The carefully prepared set meal is comforting. The tempura consists of 2 shrimp, 2 types of fish, seaweed, shiso leaf, eggplant, pumpkin, green onion, and lotus root, all for ¥900. It feels almost too good to be true. #Shinbashi #ShinbashiLunch #Tempura #TempuraBowl #Kaiseki #Tabelog

A cozy traditional Japanese-style restaurant. Ike Da in Shinbashi offers affordable tempura set meals. The shop is located on the second floor of a building a little off the main street from Shinbashi Station. The lunch counter was not in use during my visit. There are two tables and a tatami seating area (where you take off your shoes). The tempura set meal costs 900 yen and includes options like tempura rice bowl and tempura donburi. The father fries the tempura while the mother serves the customers. The tempura was generous and delicious, with a variety of ingredients like shrimp, shishito peppers, white fish, pumpkin, eggplant, and more. The miso soup was also flavorful with plenty of ingredients. The total bill was 1000 yen, with 100 yen in change. The restaurant had a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with many salarymen and regular customers. It's a comforting place to dine, especially considering the reasonable prices and quality of the food.

I visited Tempura Kappo Ikeda, which offers a cost-effective tempura set meal comparable to Imoya in Jinbocho. I had a hard time choosing between the tempura bowl and the tempura set meal priced at 900 yen, but I decided to go for the tempura set meal with extra servings for an additional 50 yen. The set included 2 shrimp tempura, ginkgo nut tempura, sand borer tempura, chicken tempura, lotus root tempura, pumpkin tempura, eggplant tempura, nori tempura, and shiso leaf tempura. I started with the shrimp tempura dipped in ginger and grated daikon radish sauce, enjoying the crunchy texture and the aroma of sesame oil that stimulated my appetite. I squeezed some lemon for added flavor, and also had homemade pickles and miso soup as a palate cleanser. It was a delicious meal that I enjoyed thoroughly. d(´ڡ`๑)

Located on the 2nd floor of a mixed-use building in a back alley right by JR Shinbashi Station, this restaurant offers a nostalgic feel with its tempura set meal and tempura rice bowl priced at ¥900 each. The tempura rice bowl includes two prawns, eel, chicken, green pepper, ginkgo nuts, eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, shiso leaves, and pumpkin - a luxurious mix! The prawns are quite large, and the dish is packed with vegetables. Especially notable is the flavorful ginkgo nut tempura. The rice bowl sauce has a gentle seasoning. The side dishes include cabbage pickles and miso soup with grated egg. All of this for ¥900 is a steal! #Shinbashi #ShinbashiLunch #Tempura #TempuraRiceBowl #Kappo #Tabelog

This shop was on my list to visit, but I had trouble finding its location. I finally discovered it when I visited Hatsushima the other day. The area around Uchisaiwaicho in Shinbashi has many narrow alleys and a lot of nightlife-focused dining establishments, so as someone who rarely drinks in Tokyo, I haven't explored many of these alleys. On this day, I was in the mood for tempura, so I decided to visit this shop. It's located on the left side just after turning onto the street where Uogin Honten is. I followed the signs for their lunch menu and entered an old, dark building that seemed to have no seismic reinforcement at all. I climbed up a very retro staircase that you rarely see these days. There's a club right in front, though it looks more like a snack bar than a club. It had just opened, as indicated by the many orchids lined up. The shop is located 180 degrees from there. It's a very retro place, with a steel door that doesn't look like a typical dining establishment. Inside, the main seating area is a raised platform with two tables and a counter, although the counter doesn't seem to be in use and is being used as a storage area. I was seated at a table, despite being dining alone. There were two groups of customers before me, and more customers arrived soon after, filling up the shop. It seems to be quite popular. I ordered the tempura set meal (900 yen), and most other customers also ordered the same. You could hear the sound of tempura being fried in the background. After a while, my meal arrived. The tempura had a wide variety of items: shrimp, horse mackerel, chicken, squid, okra, green onion, eggplant, pumpkin, shiitake mushroom, and shiso leaf. It was an impressive lineup. I wish there was some side dish like dried daikon radish or hijiki, but the variety of tempura was already quite appealing. It came with cabbage pickles and miso soup. According to reviews, the rice portion is quite large, so I had asked for less rice. The tempura dipping sauce looked thick in the photos, but it tasted light and paired well with the crispy tempura. The pickles served as a nice palate cleanser between the various tempura items. The meal was satisfying, and I could have easily finished it even without requesting less rice. Overall, it was a great value for the tempura set meal. It's worth trying out.

This is a hit! At Shinbashi, Ike Da's tempura set meal is only 850 yen. This is a great deal! The restaurant is a bit hard to find on the second floor of a slightly old building, but it's worth it. When I arrived at 12:40, the place was already full. The food takes a bit of time to come out since the restaurant is run by a couple, but the freshly fried tempura at this price is amazing! The dipping sauce is light, allowing you to enjoy a generous serving of tempura without feeling too full. The tempura donburi that other customers were eating also looked very filling. Note that starting tomorrow, the tempura set meal and tempura donburi will increase by 50 yen, but even at 900 yen, it's still a great deal. I feel a bit guilty recommending this place as it's a hidden gem in Shinbashi. If you ever visit Shinbashi, be sure to check it out, especially during the early hours. #ShinbashiLunch #ShinbashiGourmet #GinzaLunch #GinzaGourmet #Shinbashi3Chome #TempuraIkeDa #Tempura #IkeDa #Kaiseki #Kappo #Izakaya #HiddenGem

There was a sign saying "Reservation required" at the entrance, but two groups of customers ignored it and entered the tempura restaurant for lunch at 11:30. The table seats were full, so they sat in the raised seating area. As soon as they sat down, they were informed that prices would increase from December. Despite this, they ordered the tempura set meal for 850 yen. They borrowed the ethanol from the table and waited while listening to the sound of frying without wearing masks. The tempura set meal arrived in 13 minutes, which included pickles, miso soup, and rice. The tempura was rich, with two small fish, two prawns, and about five types of vegetable tempura. They could feel the dedication and style put into the dish. They enjoyed the small fish, which seemed to be horse mackerel and goby, along with shiitake mushrooms, pumpkin, shishito peppers, and eggplant. Even after the price increase to 900 yen, they felt that the tempura set meal was still a good deal, including the pickles. They finished their meal in 19 minutes, surpassing the customers who were drinking alcohol or having business meetings, and were the first to pay on that day.

When you meet your classmates from school after a long time, memories may have been replaced because it's been many years since graduation. It's interesting to realize that episodes that were originally about yourself are now remembered as someone else's stories, showing how memories can be overwritten. Nowadays, I enjoy taking photos with my iPhone, but in the past, it was all about film photography. The colors in printed photos can change over time, making it hard to remember the actual colors. Today's lunch was at a restaurant called #Ikeda, where they serve a menu with a bluish tint on the first floor. I mustered up the courage to go upstairs, passing by CLUB Miyuki, and finally found the place. I ordered the #Tenpuradon, which will be increased to 900 yen from December 1st. The large portion of rice in the bowl and the crispy tempura surprised me. The shrimp tempura was light and crispy, and the tempura dipping sauce was refreshing. The ingredients like shiitake mushrooms, green peppers, and pumpkin had their own flavors. The eel tempura may have been slightly undercooked, but the small fish, shiso leaf, and eggplant were delicious. After trying the eel, my memory got a bit fuzzy, but thankfully, I have the photos on my iPhone to remind me of the colors and taste. Hopefully, even after 10 years, these memories will not be overwritten.

Tempura Ikeda offers a tempura set meal for ¥850. When using navigation, you may be directed to the opposite side of the entrance, so you have to walk around the slightly intimidating multi-tenant building to find it on the 2nd floor. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and welcoming. We were seated in a tatami room. It takes a little bit of time for the food to be served, but it is within an acceptable range. The tempura, including shiitake mushrooms, green peppers, eggplant, perilla leaves, smelt fish, and 2 prawns, is freshly fried and crispy, so it's naturally delicious! The meal also comes with rice, miso soup, and cabbage salad. All of this for ¥850 (including tax) is amazing!

For lunch in Shinbashi that day, I was in the mood for tempura for some reason, so I headed to Ikeda, a tempura restaurant located on the 2nd floor of the Akiyama Building, very close to JR Shinbashi Station's Karasumori exit. The lunch menu consisted of tempura set meal, tempura rice bowl set meal, and simmered fish set meal, three options in total. To get to the restaurant, you have to climb the stairs in the typical mixed-use building in Shinbashi. Inside the restaurant, there are acrylic boards and disinfectant placed, ensuring thorough COVID-19 precautions. I ordered the tempura rice bowl set meal (tax included 850 yen) that day. The tempura rice bowl had a double layer, making it a bit hard to distinguish, but it was quite voluminous. It included two large shrimp tempura, a big sweetfish tempura, as well as white fish, shiitake mushroom, large leaf, shishito pepper, pumpkin, eggplant, sweet potato, and more. This was quite a generous portion. The tempura was crispy with a thin batter, and the dipping sauce was a refreshing light soy sauce-based Kansai style. Additionally, it came with a miso soup with plenty of ingredients and cabbage pickles. This combination for 850 yen was quite reasonable. This was my first visit after working in Shinbashi for 7 years and 6 months, and I enjoyed a refreshing, light soy sauce-based, and generous tempura rice bowl set meal.

A tempura restaurant located on the second floor of a mixed-use building in Shinbashi. They offer four types of lunch sets during the day: tempura, sashimi, simmered shellfish, and tempura rice bowl. I had the tempura rice bowl for 850 yen, which came with miso soup and pickles. The bowl included two large prawns, pumpkin, eggplant, sweet potato, carrot, shishito pepper, shiso leaf, white fish, and conger eel. The dish had a lot of ingredients and the batter was light, giving it a Kyoto-style feel. The broth was light and the frying was done well, but as a Tokyoite, I would have preferred a stronger flavor. However, the conger eel was just right. The miso soup contained seaweed, tofu, fried tofu, daikon radish, and scrambled egg, with a mild white miso flavor. The pickles were like a lightly pickled cabbage salad. Overall, considering the price, it was a good deal. The restaurant has a counter, tables, and a raised seating area, with a traditional tile and pebble floor. The ambiance feels a bit old-fashioned, but it adds to the charm. It's a casual and welcoming place to dine.
