Yesterday I had a solo lunch at Saizeriya. Since my dad was not around this day either, I decided to have another solo lunch. Due to the state of emergency and Golden Week, most restaurants were closed. So, just like the day before, I searched for a chain restaurant and ended up at Sukiya this time. It is located right near Waseda Station exit 1. When I entered a little after 11:30, there was only one other customer. I sat at the empty counter seat and in front of me was a tablet. I realized that I had to order using this, so I touched the screen and saw a menu with a dish called "Yakisoba Gyudon" (500 yen). It seemed like a combination of yakisoba and gyudon. I wasn't sure what it meant, but it looked interesting, so I ordered it. There was an option to choose a set, and the combinations were quite diverse, which made it difficult for a beginner like me to decide. In the end, I chose the simplest set, the salad set (170 yen). After pressing the order button, a chime rang in the kitchen, indicating that my order had been received. After a while, the tray arrived. I decided to start with the salad, and I saw two types of dressing on the table - sesame and Japanese-style. I chose the sesame dressing and poured it over the salad. The salad included cabbage, purple cabbage, shredded carrots, broccoli, lettuce, corn, and was quite substantial for the price of the set. Then, I turned my attention to the intriguing Yakisoba Gyudon. I could see the yakisoba, but where was the gyudon? When I moved the yakisoba aside, I found the beef underneath. This meant that I should eat the rice with beef and the yakisoba separately. I started with the yakisoba, which turned out to be a bit watery and had too much sauce. There was more yakisoba than I expected. After finishing the yakisoba, I moved on to the gyudon. It was tasty, but the ratio of rice to beef was not balanced. I realized that I should have eaten the yakisoba with the rice. The miso soup had fried tofu and seaweed in white miso broth, which was average. The total cost was 670 yen. The taste was okay, but the portion was surprisingly large. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the restaurant is doing its best. Thank you for the meal.
