I'm going to have dinner before heading back to Sapporo Station by highway bus. I'm the type of person who starts to have withdrawal symptoms if I don't eat soup curry once a month, so what should I have this time? Let's try here - Soup Curry Okushiba Shoten at Soseiji near Sapporo Station. This place is famous for its shrimp soup curry. When I arrived, there was already a line forming. Many tourists from overseas were also there. When you line up, the staff will give you a menu to order in advance. The staff can also speak English. The order process is soup, menu, spiciness level, rice portion, free toppings, famous toppings, and drinks. I ordered the Shrimp Soup with Chicken Bone and Okushiba Field Soup Curry for ¥1,480, spiciness level 10 (0-12) for an additional ¥150, normal rice portion, free topping of whole tomato, and Sapporo Classic beer for ¥550. When my turn came, I was seated at the counter. The interior has a retro atmosphere from the early Showa period, with traditional Japanese music playing in the background. The seating includes counter seats, table seats, and a raised seating area, with a capacity of 21 people. The open kitchen is visible. Water is served in teacups. After a short wait, the beer was served. It was slightly warm. Then, the soup curry arrived. The curry is served in a bowl, and the rice is in a teacup. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the serving dishes, with a very Japanese feel, clearly cater to the many foreign tourists. The soup curry includes basic ingredients like chicken leg, carrots, eggplant, bell peppers, pumpkin, watercress, lotus root, whole tomato, and menu ingredients like cabbage, potatoes, sweet potatoes, burdock, and radish. Now, let's try the soup. Hmm, I can't really taste the shrimp... Maybe it's because it's spicy? Did the spices overpower the shrimp's presence? It's not bad, but my expectations for shrimp soup were high. The chicken is okay for soup curry. The vegetables are fried, but the root vegetables are undercooked, so the texture and taste are lacking. The rice in the teacup is a bit difficult to eat for someone like me who prefers to eat soup curry with a spoon... Thank you for the meal. This time, there wasn't anything particularly noteworthy, so I'm not sure if I would visit again... Maybe the impression would change with different menu items or at a different branch.
