Jundok of Junpei-san♪ Um, it's a Jundok shop♪ "Western food and Cafe Junpei" The original Jundog and famous Ebi-don shop in Biei, "Western food ya Junpei", relocated and reopened in April 2014 in the same town of Biei. The previous shop had a vibe of "The old-fashioned cafe" with lush greenery and a large collection of manga books that seemed like a manga cafe, but the crispy Ebi-don topped with a large shrimp fry and the Jun-dock, a Japanese-style hot dog with shrimp fry coated in sweet and savory sauce and wrapped in rice, were incredibly delicious! The name of the shop changed from "Western food ya Junpei" to "Western food and Cafe Junpei", and the atmosphere of the shop shifted to a more sleek and stylish feel. However, personally, I feel a bit sad about it. The surprise of "Can you really eat such delicious food in a place like this?" was a big hit for me♪ The menu remains largely unchanged. The most popular dish is the "Ebi-don"♪ A large shrimp fry on top of rice, this is the specialty dish here♪ Other popular items include shrimp fry set meals, various fry assortments with rice, shrimp fry curry, cheese chicken curry, and another specialty, various baked curries. In addition, there are cafe-style menu items. Special omurice, toast & sandwich varieties, brunch sets, soft serve ice cream desserts, affogato, parfaits, and more sweets were added. You can also enjoy individual drink items as a cafe. But still, the "Ebi-don" is a must-try here♪ He went for the simple "Ebi-don", while I opted for the "Deluxe Ebi-don" with two shrimp fries and a large basil chicken roll fry☆ ●Deluxe Ebi-don (2 shrimp fries, + basil chicken roll) ¥1,260 On top of a bowl of rice, there are two large shrimp fries coated in crispy breadcrumbs. It's cute... but it kinda looks like the shop owner. lol I really wanted to buy the "Jundock" for takeout, but since I had already bought a lot of bread, I was told, "You've already eaten enough! lol" and sadly gave up... lol But it's really delicious! Jundock. This is a restaurant that I tried to visit twice before but it was closed both times due to temporary closure or sold out. This time, I left Sapporo at 7 am aiming for a head start (lol). I arrived at 10:15, even though the store opens at 11:00, there were already two groups waiting. By 10:30, there were about 12 groups waiting. I'm not sure if this is normal, but we were allowed into the restaurant at 10:30 and could start ordering! What caught my attention was that there were many tourists from China and Korea. Chinese conversations could be heard loudly throughout the restaurant, which kind of ruined the atmosphere a bit. The fact that the restaurant also had Chinese staff indicates that a lot of Chinese and Korean tourists must be visiting. Is this place famous overseas??? I ordered the most popular dish, the shrimp bowl (with 3 shrimps). I was interested in the pork cutlet bowl, but unfortunately, they couldn't make pork cutlet, pork loin cutlet, or pork cutlet today. As for the taste of the shrimp bowl... The shrimp fry with sauce was slightly sweet and delicious! The shrimp was quite large and tasty. The rice portion was quite small (it felt like it was lightly scooped into a small rice bowl). For those with a big appetite, it might not be satisfying. Well, it is undeniably delicious. The batter on the shrimp was slightly burnt-like, and I wonder if they haven't changed the oil? (I heard that they use a blend of oils). If it doesn't bother you, then it's fine. Also, 1320 yen for a shrimp fry is honestly not the best in terms of cost performance. It seems like the restaurant is supported more by tourists (especially from overseas) rather than locals. Considering the disappointing atmosphere with loud Chinese conversations and the lack of options in ordering (pork cutlet, pork loin cutlet, pork cutlet sold out?), I feel like I wouldn't go through all this effort to come here next time. To be honest, I wouldn't give it a high rating.

We ordered the most popular dish, the shrimp bowl (3 pieces). I was surprised by how quickly it was served. It only took about 2-3 minutes from ordering to the dish being served. The shrimp bowl had three large shrimp fries laid on top, giving it a powerful appearance. The crispy shrimp fries, wrapped in a special sweet and salty sauce, were very delicious. You can enjoy high-quality shrimp fries that are not deceivingly thick. It is popular among tourists, so be prepared to wait in line.

I ordered the shrimp bowl with 4 pieces of shrimp and extra rice. This was my lunch after getting an MRI at a nearby hospital. I also did a brain health check. It's beneficial to know about your own health. Anyway, Junpei's signature dish is still as good as ever today. The taste from the previous owner has been passed down well. Plus, the cooking time felt fast. Maybe because I had a light breakfast, I felt like I could eat faster (laughs). I feel lucky that the closest restaurant to my house is here, and I finished my meal. I have been to this place many times before, but for some reason, it feels like my first post... The freshly fried cutlet is the best! While they offer a variety of fry dishes, the specialty dish is a must-try. The Ebi-don Take (1320 yen) features crispy shrimp fry with a sweet sauce. The shrimp are not small, and the crispy batter is incredibly delicious! The batter steals the show, which is impressive! It goes well with the rice, and it's no wonder they came up with Jun Dog for a more casual way to enjoy it. The price may be a bit high for three shrimp fries, but the included salad is a nice touch. Looking at the menu again, I realized that the Deluxe option with other fried foods might be a better deal. I have some regrets... The interior is spacious and clean, giving off a family restaurant vibe. During the season or holidays, the place gets crowded, but the staff's friendly attitude of greeting regulars by name shows that they don't take their popularity for granted. It's a popular spot worth checking out.

I went all the way to Biei to eat Ebi-don. It's lunchtime, but the restaurant is quite large, so I got in smoothly! Without hesitation, I ordered three Ebi-don bowls! Also got a Jundog and a hot cafe latte to go! It was ready super quickly! It was delicious as usual! The sauce was especially tasty! Additional note: The Jundog was delicious! This restaurant is famous for its shrimp bowl, right? But I want to eat pork cutlet... I want to eat curry... I always end up eating pork cutlet curry wherever I go. It's like my adventurous spirit is fading and it's getting annoying haha. But since I'm here, I'll add one shrimp fry as well. Oh, the tenderness and deliciousness of this pork cutlet! The curry is not as spicy as at Daimaru, so it might be easier to eat here. Next time, I'll challenge the shrimp bowl! I want to try it, if possible...

Today, I went on a drive to Biei for a long-awaited lunch with my mom friends. We arrived at Junpei-san's restaurant just 5 minutes before opening and there was already a line! We decided on ordering the set with three shrimp fries and a menchi-katsu. The shrimp fries were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and paired perfectly with the sauce. The menchi-katsu was also crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and I'm glad I chose it. It was a satisfying lunch after a long time. ❤️

JR Biei Station is about a 10-minute walk away. It is located in the central part of Biei city. After entering the entrance and disinfecting with alcohol, I was guided to an available seat. I looked at the menu on the table. There were rice bowls, fried dishes, curry, chicken, and more. I ordered the "Specialty" dish, the "Ebi-don (bamboo)". It arrived in about 20 minutes. It had three large shrimp tempura on top. The sauce seemed slightly sweet. This delicious sauce soaked into the tempura nicely, making the rice very tasty. Also, the tails of the shrimp tempura were crispy and fragrant. The salad was cold and refreshing, with a sweet dressing. The "Ebi-don (bamboo)" costs 1,320 yen including tax. Today is a day off. The weather in Tokachi is still not good. I quickly went to the dentist and then went on a short drive towards Furano where the weather was really nice. The blue sky was visible and the temperature was around 30 degrees. It's currently the best time to see lavender and eat melons in Furano. There were a lot of rental cars on the road and it seems like tourists are starting to come back. For lunch today, I decided to eat shrimp fry at Junpei. We arrived around 1:30 pm and there was already a line of one group waiting, but luckily we were seated after about 5 minutes. I ordered the set with menchi-katsu and shrimp fry. The shrimp in the shrimp fry was big, thick, and juicy. The crispy batter and the flavor of the shrimp were irresistible! I couldn't resist eating one without sauce (laughs). The menchi-katsu was juicy and had a strong flavor, with a crispy batter. The portion of rice was smaller than I expected, so next time I will definitely get the large size. However, I was a bit disappointed that there was not enough Western mustard and that tartar sauce was not included. The quality of the ingredients was good, but the prices were a bit high, probably due to it being a tourist spot. Therefore, I have to give a slightly critical evaluation.

The price difference is due to the quantity or thickness? You can probably tell by looking at the cross-section, it's likely around 3cm thick. Frying this is really a great job. It's not heavy and doesn't make you feel bloated. It's light but has a firm texture, so there's a big sense of satisfaction. I think the tonkatsu here is one of a kind. It's a limited time offer, but you can drink Biei milk here. Even if you buy it at a supermarket, it's quite expensive. It's served at some of the eateries in Biei, so when you stop by, ask the staff about it.

I came to Biei for work. After finishing work, I searched on Tabelog for a highly rated place for lunch and found this place. Even though it's still before noon, there are quite a few cars parked outside. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious. Despite it being before lunchtime, the hirekatsu and chicken dishes are already sold out. So, I ordered the mixed set meal with menchikatsu and shrimp fry. While waiting, I noticed many customers coming in for takeout. The food was of a high level, especially the katsu. If I had to nitpick, I wish there was a bit more sauce. The prices are a bit on the higher side.

Popular restaurant in Biei-cho! When I visited in the early afternoon on a weekday, the parking lot was almost full but luckily I managed to find a seat as someone was leaving. I saw a shrimp fry bowl for the first time, although I've seen tempura bowls before, I didn't know they made shrimp fry bowls. I ordered the shrimp fry bowl and cheese chicken set, and after about 20 minutes, the dishes arrived. The shrimp fry was crispy and delicious, especially with the tasty sauce drizzled on top. They were also selling the sauce at the register, but it was a different kind of sauce, not the thick one for the cheese chicken, but a light and flavorful one for the shrimp fry bowl. I wish they sold that sauce too! Overall, it was a very satisfying lunch. Thank you for the meal!

I had some business in Biei and was wondering where to eat when I stumbled upon this restaurant. I thought it wouldn't be crowded on a weekday afternoon in Biei, but to my surprise, there was a line. The taste is definitely worth it. Honestly, it's worth going to Biei just to eat this Western food. However, the only disappointing thing was the service.

As usual, I visited the restaurant that caught my attention in the review by "☆流れ星"さん. The store information showed that it opened in 2014, and it had a nostalgic atmosphere with familiar flavors. I was most surprised by the combination of roast chicken and shrimp fry. The new sauces, soy sauce dressing, and homemade dressings were all delicious. It reminded me of "Lamstar," a restaurant run by a friend's family that I used to visit often in my hometown. The A combo (shrimp fry + roast chicken + rice + miso soup + salad) costs ¥1,738.

The shrimp was fried straight and had a crispy texture with a delicious sweet and savory sauce. It was so tasty! The portion of rice was a bit small, so I think 4 shrimp would have been better. If I have a chance to revisit, I would like to try a different menu item.

I pondered over the menu, thinking that 4 pieces of shrimp fry might be too heavy. I wanted to try curry and other fried foods as well. Eventually, I settled on the shrimp bowl with 3 pieces. I noticed that the staff didn't come to take orders promptly, but I learned that you can call them using a button on the table. When the shrimp bowl arrived, it was excellent. The batter was light and crispy, not too greasy. I could easily eat 4 pieces. The shrimp fry had the shell peeled up to just before the tail, which was a nice touch. The shrimp itself was plump and had a firm texture. It's hard to believe that each piece costs only around 200 yen. I want to buy some to take home.

My colleague who always takes me to the same places suggested going to Cafe Junpei, where our business partners always visit when they come to Biei-cho. The exterior of Cafe Junpei looks somewhat fairytale-like. The inside of the restaurant is bustling with regular local customers. After this, we will visit other trendy restaurants with many tourists. Of course, I ordered their famous dish! What? Jun Dock?? Of course, I'll have that too! - Shrimp Bowl Mats 4 pieces 1310 yen - Curry Sausage Jun Dock 390 yen The bowl arrived with plenty of shrimp fry on top. This shrimp bowl was even more delicious than I imagined. The crispy breaded shrimp fry had a wonderful texture. And above all, the sweet and savory sauce drizzled over it was incredibly delicious, making the rice irresistible. Well, the taste was pretty much as expected, but the way the rice goes well with the sauce was beyond my imagination. Furthermore, the combination of the crispy breaded shrimp fry, rice, and sauce. Even just eating this, you can really taste the flavor of the shrimp! Apparently, there is a separate oil for frying just the shrimp fry, and that's why the shrimp flavor is infused into it. And then, the Jun Dock. This Jun Dock is also a famous B-grade gourmet dish in Asahikawa and Biei. The original shop is said to be here. The basic version is a dock version of the shrimp bowl, where you dip the shrimp fry in that sauce and wrap it in rice, but there is also a version with curry sausage. The curry sausage fry, coated in crispy bread crumbs and drizzled with that sauce, wrapped in rice... This curry sausage fry is really delicious! However, after having 4 pieces of shrimp in the shrimp bowl, the taste of that sauce can be a bit overwhelming?? Well, I understand why the unique flavor of the shrimp bowl is so satisfying. The feeling of the rice going so well with the dish is great. If you want a quick lunch in Biei-cho, this place is highly recommended!
