Do you all know about the dish called "Muugata"? It means "Mu: pork" and "Gata: shallow pot," and it's a popular Thai hot pot dish that combines yakiniku (grilled meat) and shabu-shabu. I visited the place out of curiosity as it's gaining popularity.
- All-you-can-eat Muugata (2,499 yen)
- All-you-can-drink (2,299 yen)
Ingredients:
Various pork meats, chicken, chicken liver, squid, shrimp, white fish, sausages, Thai processed foods, various vegetables, tofu, glass noodles, and more. You can pick your favorites buffet-style.
How to eat:
The hot pot looks like a Mongolian barbecue pot. You pour Thai soup into the grooves around it, and you can enjoy grilled meat on the top round part. I thought the hot pot would be the star, but the soup was amazing! The soup, made with pork broth, has a unique Asian flavor but no overpowering taste, and it's so delicious. When you add processed foods or fish, they become soft and absorb the soup. As you eat, the soup absorbs the fat and umami from the meat, creating a devilishly delicious soup.
Nam Chim:
A must-have Thai sauce that is sweet, sour, and spicy.
- Red: A sauce with garlic and a Tabasco-like acidity that goes well with meat.
- Green: A sauce with a strong spicy flavor like habanero and a punchy garlic taste. It goes well with both grilled meat and shabu-shabu, so you can enjoy them alternately.
For dessert, they offer a popular Thai coconut milk dessert buffet where you can choose your favorite toppings.
- All-you-can-drink alcohol plan:
The drinks are served in plastic cups, giving it a street food vibe. You can also enjoy coconut juice and Thai tea as soft drinks.
In conclusion, it's a delicious and entertaining hot pot experience! You can enjoy a variety of vegetables, meats, and seafood while feeling the Thai vibes, making it a cost-effective option.
- Shop:
The shop is located about 3 minutes from Shinjuku Station West Exit, in the basement of a building. The elevator might be a bit tricky to find, adding to the fun exploration feeling. The interior of the shop, opened in December 2022, is compact but very clean. The flags hanging from the ceiling and the tables and chairs remind you of Thai street stalls.
The restaurant has about 4 locations in Tokyo and seems to be gaining popularity. It's exciting to enjoy a fun and healthy meal that lets you experience foreign countries. They also offer Thai dishes like Gapao and Green Curry for lunch. Give it a try! ✨
