Today was a stay in Kyoto. I finished my work at the hotel and had dinner! Tonight's dinner was already decided, haha. It could be said that I am a regular visitor, Suzuki Western Restaurant! Below are the dishes I had in order: - Draft beer - Kasago sashimi - Tartar sauce with red turnip - Densuke anago fry with sansho pepper soy sauce - Fried oysters - Highball - Chikuwa and aosa tempura - Fried sardines with Worcestershire sauce - Croquette - Spring roll with mackerel and rapeseed blossoms - Bolognese rice croquette - Rice croquette with squid and aosa I was completely satisfied and my stomach was full tonight! It was another deep-fried paradise, thoroughly enjoyed. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal!

We went to "Yo-shokudo Suzuki" for the second party. With the introduction that everyone will love the fry, we visited with high expectations and were truly impressed. Even though our stomachs were somewhat full, we couldn't resist the delicious food! The fry here doesn't make you feel heavy afterwards. The last time I was so impressed by fried food was at "Tonkatsu Narikura." I have added another favorite restaurant in Kyoto. [1. Steamed butter clam] Absolutely delicious. The seasoning was perfect. [2. Horse mackerel fry] Light and crispy fry. The tartar sauce with fresh ginger and cucumber was also delicious. I've never had such a wonderful horse mackerel fry before. [3. Conger eel cutlet] Thick conger eel with a crispy fry. [4. Burdock root fry] Surprisingly tender burdock root. The flavor of the burdock root itself was also delicious. [5. Kamo eggplant fry] The eggplant was huge. The dipping sauce was also delicious. [6. Tongue cutlet] The tongue had been marinated and tenderized before being fried. [7. Cold corn potage] A gentle flavor that you could drink endlessly. [8. Pork mince cutlet] The chef's recommendation did not disappoint. I will definitely order this again next time. [9. Minced octopus and plum cutlet] I ordered this because I missed out on eating takoyaki during the day, and it was also amazing. [10. Cutlet rice ball] [11. Mackerel sushi] [12. Fried wheat gluten meatball in broth] The soup dishes were also delicious. [13. Homemade plum ice cream with black honey] The homemade black honey, cooked for 4 hours, was used to make this dessert. Even the dessert was delicious. We tried a lot of dishes, and they were all delicious, especially the fry. The chef was also delightful, and we had a wonderful time. We will definitely go back again.

The first time you can only order the omakase course (¥3500 including tax), after that you can order individual items. The menu is not very extensive, with about 7 dishes including cold corn soup (¥3500 including tax). You can also add 2 glasses of draft beer and plum wine for ¥5600 including tax. The fried dishes were all freshly cooked and delicious. The course lacked sashimi, but the mackerel sushi at the end was the most delicious. It might be good to add more variety to the course. I made a reservation for 18:00 and there was no one else besides me in the restaurant.

I always wanted to go to this restaurant but never had the chance, but finally I was able to go! It was just as good as I imagined! The service and the food were both excellent! There were even solo diners, so the atmosphere was surprisingly welcoming. It's not a tempura place, but a stylish fry restaurant.

A restaurant in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, calling itself a Western-style dining hall. The atmosphere is created by renovating an old folk house, where you can watch the craftsmen at work while enjoying your meal. I visited for lunch. Reservations were not accepted, so it was all about timing. Luckily, I was able to get in without waiting, but there were people lining up after me. They offer set meals like minced cutlet and croquette set, as well as mixed fry set. I ordered the mixed fish fry set and added a croquette on the side. There are only counter seats available. On that day, it seemed like the chef himself was working alone. Despite being a set meal, dishes like salad and miso soup were served one by one, almost like a mini-course meal. It may take some time, but both the taste and the ambiance of the restaurant are convincing and worth the wait. The miso soup was delicious. The salad had a generous amount of dressing. A homemade tartar sauce was served, filled with plenty of ingredients in a glass bowl. It was mixed with large chunks of vegetables and eggs. Of course, everything was served freshly fried. The chef explained each type of fish fry as they were served, all made with light-tasting fish like Spanish mackerel. The tartar sauce was so full of ingredients that it was more like a topping than a dipping sauce. The hot and crispy fry was delicious. It would have been nice to have different seasoning options like salt or sauce. Then came the croquette. It was filled with sweet and savory flavored potatoes, almost like a meat and potato stew. No additional seasoning was needed as it was already well-seasoned. Even though the rating was already high at 3.54 during my visit, I wouldn't be surprised if it went even higher. That's how solid of a restaurant it was.

Since its opening, I have visited this restaurant at least three times a year. The menu changes with the seasons, allowing me to enjoy the best seasonal dishes. About 30% of the menu consists of regular items, so I never have the same meal twice. It is one of the few "go-to" places in Kyoto. Not only do I get to enjoy seasonal ingredients, but the chef, Suzuki-san, always suggests new dishes for me to try. While the menu is mostly omakase, starting with soup, followed by sashimi, salad, and then fried dishes, on this particular day, I had the main dish of yellowtail shabu-shabu on the second floor. Despite being a Western-style restaurant, the variety and freshness of the dishes never get boring, which is why I keep coming back.

For first-time visitors, I recommend the 3000 yen course at Seigoin Kabura. It includes Kabura soup, roast pork with sansho sauce and pickles, croquettes, minced cutlet with demi-glace sauce, and deep-fried sea bream with plum broth. You can add the special cream croquette made with rare freshwater shrimp for an extra 600 yen. The croquette has a creamy filling and a crispy coating, providing a unique texture. Even when eaten cold as takeout, the croquette remains crispy and delicious thanks to the flavorful broth.

On a weekday at 7:00 PM, I visited a counter-only restaurant that specializes in fried food after making a reservation two weeks in advance. The place was fully booked even on this day, so it seems like making a reservation in advance is a good idea for dinner. The menu consists mostly of fried dishes, so we started with sashimi and squid salad before moving on to the fried items. We tried burdock root, horse mackerel cutlet, minced cutlet, croquette, crab cream croquette, and another croquette. Each item was fried right in front of us, so they were all fresh and delicious. The burdock root was crispy on the outside but very tender inside, making it a delicious ingredient on its own. Everything was tasty, but I particularly loved the croquette and minced cutlet. The croquette had a perfect balance of sweetness from the potatoes and the frying process concentrated all the flavors inside, making it the best croquette I've ever had. I've been to around 60 famous Western-style restaurants, tried many croquettes in my life, but this one was probably the best. I even had a second helping. The minced cutlet also sealed all the meaty goodness inside, exploding with flavor in every bite. This fried food is definitely worth trying. The only downside was that the owner seemed very busy handling everything alone, making it a bit awkward to place orders. I hope they consider having more staff in the future.

Located near Nijo Castle, this restaurant has a counter-only seating. The owner, who originally trained in Japanese cuisine, serves meticulously prepared fried dishes. You can enjoy creative fried dishes using seasonal ingredients, offering a variety of flavors depending on the season. If you want to enjoy delicious food in a calm atmosphere, this is the place to go. Perfect for solo dining or a meal with 2-3 people.

Located right next to Nijojo-mae Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, this restaurant has no parking lot. On my first visit, they were closed unexpectedly, and on my second visit around 12:30, they were already sold out. This time, I arrived right at the opening time of 12:00, but there was already a line forming. Worried that they might sell out again, I prayed as I joined the end of the line. I was lucky to finally get the Maizuru-sourced fresh fish mixed fry set for 1350 yen including tax, as I was the last one to order it. However, those behind me were not able to have the same set. It seems like they only prepare enough for about two rounds of customers for lunch. The exterior and interior of the restaurant have been renovated from a traditional Kyoto townhouse, creating a nice atmosphere. The small and clean interior only has a few counter seats. The set meal includes a salad with watercress and potato salad, rice (extra serving for 100 yen), burdock miso soup, pickles, homemade tartar sauce, and mixed fry of horse mackerel, conger eel, and Spanish mackerel. The salad, rice, and miso soup that came out first raised my expectations. The potato salad with mentaiko was delicious, and the rice was shiny and fluffy. The miso soup had a delicate and refined flavor. The main dish, the mixed fry, was as expected - crispy coating with fresh and flavorful fish inside. The combination with the tartar sauce was exquisite. Lastly, the owner prepared hot tea for us. For the quality of the food, 1350 yen including tax is a great deal. It's understandable why they are so popular. I look forward to visiting again at night for a more leisurely experience.

I found this place on Instagram and decided to visit. They only serve lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I arrived a little after 12 o'clock and there were a few people waiting outside the small traditional house where the restaurant is located. The lunch is served at the counter. Despite being run by just one person, the service was very polite and they explained the lunch menu to me. I ordered the Croquette and Minced Cutlet set meal for 1150 yen and requested extra rice. The fried dishes were crispy and not too greasy, and all the side dishes were perfectly seasoned. I found a great restaurant!

I started a gourmet site for Mitomi Emon. Homepage "https://blog.33inc.jp/" Instagram "@mitomi_emon" Near Nijo Castle in Kyoto, there is a renovated old house that has become a deep-fried food specialty store called "Western-style dining Suzuki." You take off your shoes before entering, and the friendly service of the owner creates a cozy atmosphere. The menu consists of two main categories: fried meat and fried fish. The former includes a set meal of minced cutlet and croquette made with Tamba chestnut pork from neighboring Hyogo Prefecture. The latter includes a mixed fry of fresh fish from Kyoto's Maizuru. The choice of fried items and the origin of the ingredients give a slightly different impression compared to typical fried food shops. It is said that the owner used to work at a Japanese restaurant in Kyoto, which probably explains the influence of his experience. The lineup of mixed fry includes three types: dorado, amberjack, and horse mackerel. Dorado is the child of yellowtail, and amberjack is the child of bream. They are all cooked to a fluffy texture, with a clear taste characteristic of white fish. The horse mackerel retains the flavor of its fat in the coating. Because of their mild flavor, the role of the sauce becomes important, and the original tartar sauce served here is delicious. I also tried topping the minced cutlet with it, but the rich flavor of the meat doesn't really require the sauce. This deep-fried food specialty store was established in 2021 and is still relatively new. I have a feeling it will become popular soon!

Today, I visited "Yoshokudou Suzuki" near Nijo Castle. It's only a 4-5 minute walk from Nijo Castle Station. I ordered "Tonkatsu (@550)", "Aji Fry (@600)", "Squid Fry (@600)", "Kobou Fry 200", "Fig Fry with Dashi (@500)", "Seasonal Tartar Sauce (@200)", "Mackerel Sushi (@300)", and "Homemade Cucumber Ice Cream (@300)". The fried dishes were all lightly crispy and delicious. The mackerel sushi was refreshing with a hint of acidity. After a palate cleanser of homemade cucumber ice cream, I'm looking forward to my next visit.

I had the opportunity to stop by this restaurant, which specializes in fry dishes, with a counter for 4 groups and a maximum of 8 people. Despite being run by a single staff member, the service was excellent and we didn't have to wait long. The menu is à la carte, so we tried a variety of dishes, but the fried horse mackerel was the best. It was light and crispy. Do you really want to dip it in tartar sauce? It seemed like a waste! However, the combination of tartar sauce was also amazing. It knocked out the croquettes and I preferred it over the minced cutlet! I want to visit this restaurant once a month! (I wonder if I can make a reservation...)

-Kyoto City, Nakagyo-ku- A wonderful restaurant that I would like to visit frequently and recommend to friends. It is safe to make a reservation. The stylish and calm interior has only a counter where jazz music plays. The space is designed for 4 groups of 2 people each, with transparent shields between each group for safety. The ventilation is good, making it a comfortable space to enjoy a meal without worrying about noise. The chairs are comfortable, and you have to take off your shoes, making it a pleasant experience. It is an evening dining place with only a la carte menu options that may vary based on seasonal ingredients. We spent 8200 yen for two people ordering drinks only. - Tsubasu sashimi: We chose Tsubasu over horse mackerel as we wanted it fried. It was not fishy, not too salty, and easy to eat with a thick texture. - Maguro salad: A simple dressing of mustard and vinegar with octopus chunks. The octopus was delicious, and the dressing was tangy and tasty. - Iwata-san mozuku and ginger winter melon soup: A warm soup with soft winter melon and a gentle taste of ginger. - Pumpkin cold potage: Made with pumpkin instead of corn, it was smooth and easy to drink. - Burdock fry: Crispy burdock with a simple and rustic flavor. - Horse mackerel fry: A generous piece of horse mackerel with a moist and flavorful meat that goes well with the seasonal tartar sauce. - Cream rice croquette with conger eel roe: A creamy croquette with a subtle rice flavor and a popping texture. - Spicy cod roe potato salad: Cream cheese and spicy cod roe complement each other well, perfect for snacking. - Minced pork cutlet with tartar sauce: A light and delicious dish, especially when paired with tartar sauce. - Summer ginkgo nut and shiitake fry: Lightly salted and simple to enjoy. - Croquette with minced pork: A gentle and flavorful dish reminiscent of stewed meat, with a well-balanced saltiness. - Mackerel sushi: A refreshing end to the meal with a slightly sweet pickled ginger. - The octopus fry was good, but personally, I preferred the maguro salad. The staff also provided recommended ways to enjoy the dishes. Taking quick photos of the food with your smartphone is allowed, which is great for capturing memories of delicious meals.

I finally visited "Yo-shokudo Suzuki," which opened in August last year, just before its one-year anniversary. I arrived around 13:30 and managed to grab the last seat. The menu seemed to feature the "Minced Cutlet and Croquette Set Meal" as its signature dish, but I opted for the "Maizuru Fresh Fish Mixed Fry Set Meal" with a topping of minced cutlet. The mixed fry included horse mackerel, sea bass, and conger eel. The salad was made with cucumber and perilla seeds. Everything was incredibly delicious, with the fries being delicately cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. However, the standout was definitely the minced cutlet. It was juicy and had a chunky texture that was the signature of this restaurant. I heard they have various creative and seasonal dishes for dinner, so I look forward to coming back for that. The owner was very friendly, and despite being the last customer, he took the time to chat with me. It's clear that they run the business with sincerity. No wonder this place is popular. It's definitely worth lining up for.

On Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., I went to "Yoshokudou Suzuki" in front of Nijo Castle. The restaurant has a clean interior with a counter of 7 seats, giving off a slightly high-class traditional Japanese cuisine atmosphere. The exterior seems to have a historical and flavorful charm as it was originally an old folk house. The bald chef runs the place alone. He has been doing Japanese cuisine for about 20 years. I ordered the "Tanba pork minced cutlet and croquette set meal (1,100 yen)". I could hear the satisfying sizzling sound of frying. Just hearing that sound made me hungry. It arrived in 10 minutes. I tried the "minced cutlet" with homemade demi-glace sauce. Delicious! It was incredibly juicy with meat juices overflowing. The onions were cut into large pieces, so I could feel the texture of the onions. Next, I tried the "croquette". Delicious! It was very soft and flavorful. Even without any additional sauce, it was full of umami. It must be due to the strong dashi flavor. I would definitely like to come back at night. I am sure they have a variety of excellent dishes. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

We visited the restaurant in Kyoto in mid-June on a Saturday at 5:00 PM for the start of the Kyoto Prefecture residents' discount, just the two of us from Osaka Prefecture. We had made a reservation in advance. Upon entering, we took off our shoes and were given warm towels. We decided to order one dish at a time because we wanted to try a variety of dishes, starting with the corn cold soup, which was full of sweet corn flavor. The owner, who runs the restaurant alone, served us the following dishes: corn cold potage, Ine tuna sashimi, seasonal squid salad, horse mackerel cutlet, conger eel cutlet, beef cutlet with miso soup, burdock cutlet, turban shell black cream croquette, mackerel sushi. Everything was delicious, and even with a couple of beers, the bill came to only 7,800 yen. We still want to try more dishes, so we definitely plan on coming back.

Arrived before 12:20, there were 2 groups of customers ahead. The place was full by 30 minutes later. We took off our shoes and sat at the counter. I was mesmerized by the graceful and rhythmic movements of the chef. We ordered the Maizuru fresh fish mixed fry set for 1300 yen and the Tanba pork mince cutlet and croquette set for 1100 yen. The tartar sauce changes with the seasons, and today's was made with spring cabbage and bracken, giving it a crunchy and delicious taste. The miso soup had a hint of sweetness from the vegetables. The set included flounder, Spanish mackerel, and conger eel fries. The demi-glace sauce on the pork mince cutlet was warm and flavorful. The spicy cod roe potato salad was also delicious. The balance of the pickled cucumber and Nara pickles was perfect and everything tasted delicious and beautifully presented. The interior of the restaurant and the chef's movements were clean and meticulous. I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again, maybe even for dinner.

I went to a delicious fried food restaurant. When you enter the restaurant, you take off your shoes and sit at a counter seat in a calm atmosphere with a renovated old Japanese house. I started with a draft beer. I ordered the recommended fried horse mackerel and fried burdock. The horse mackerel is large and has thick juicy meat, very satisfying to eat. When eaten with tartar sauce, the deliciousness is even more enhanced. The fried burdock was surprisingly soft and flavorful when I thought it would be tough. I could eat as many of these burdock fries as I want. I switched from beer to a highball, which was delicious. I ended with mackerel sushi. They also have great lunch deals.

I arrived at the restaurant just before 1 pm and had to wait outside for about 10 minutes because it was crowded. I ordered the Maizuru-sourced fresh fish mixed fry set meal with an additional minced cutlet and croquette with demi-glace sauce. The meal came with radish tartare, salad, pickles, miso soup, and shiny rice. The mixed fry included yellowtail and Spanish mackerel, which I dipped generously in tartare sauce and found delicious. The additional croquette and minced cutlet with demi-glace sauce were also very tasty. I was offered a second helping, which I gladly accepted. I finished the meal with a hot hojicha tea. The parking lot was located north of the restaurant in a coin parking area.
