Burgundy is known as one of the most famous wine regions in France, often compared to Bordeaux. For those who want to try a variety of Burgundy wines, there is a dream-like restaurant in Susukino, Sapporo, Hokkaido, where you can enjoy unlimited Burgundy wines to your heart's content (during events such as weekends). The wine cellar is filled with mostly French wines, especially Burgundy wines, and the dishes are prepared to harmonize with Burgundy wines. All dishes are served a la carte, allowing you to enjoy your meal at your own pace while deciding the balance between drinks and food. It's a place where you can easily enjoy wine. The owner and sommelier, Yutaka Tanonoi, used to work as a pharmaceutical company executive and decided to continue living in Sapporo, so he retired from the company and opened "Rakudo" in June 2022. His partner, the chef, Toshihide Michinobu, worked in hotels and restaurants in Sapporo and has a 35-year career in French cuisine. Together, Tanonoi and Michinobu created this restaurant, with the name derived from their own names. Burgundy wines are mainly made from single grape varieties. The red wine uses "Pinot Noir," known for its noble fruitiness and elegant acidity. The white wine mainly uses the "Chardonnay" variety, which has a crisp acidity characteristic of Burgundy Chardonnay. The red wine offered on this particular day was from the prestigious producer Chateau de Saint Cosme in Gigondas, Southern France. Louis Barruol, the 14th generation owner, is a renowned winemaker known as the "genius of Gigondas" by Wine Spectator. He has received high ratings in various wine evaluation magazines and continues to be recognized as one of the top wineries in the Rhone region. It's a great privilege to taste such wines! The Domaine Nudant Pinot Noir was also delicious. The Pinot Noir by Paul Garaud was also very good. There were also rosé, white, and Champagne wines, along with Hokkaido limited edition Sapporo Classic beer to compare and enjoy a variety of drinks. The food included a hamburger rice bowl for growing children (with extra rice), hors d'oeuvres platter, bread and whipped butter, and confit of bone-in thigh meat from Takikawa, all satisfying dishes that complement the wines. It was so much fun! The hamburger was incredibly delicious. The total bill for four people was 21,830 yen (paid by card, with two people ordering the wine all-you-can-drink option). I am extremely satisfied. Ah, so happy! It was a group outing this time, but dining alone or as a couple at the counter might be great too.
