When you leave Shin-Okubo Station, the streets on weekends are packed with people, like the coming and going of a big event, making it difficult to walk slowly due to the crowded narrow sidewalks. It feels like you're not in Japan just in this area. Five blocks east from the station, at the corner where you turn, you will find the Korean restaurant "Muteppo." The first floor houses the main branch of a famous restaurant, so many people flow there, but the second floor of the restaurant was quite crowded on the weekend. We had made a reservation as a group on this day, so we were able to enter smoothly, but without a reservation, it would have been difficult to find a seat. The customers were mostly couples and families with babies, but the majority were women. We opted for the 120-minute all-you-can-eat buffet course on this day, which cost 1,980 yen per person for lunch (includes all-you-can-drink soft drinks; additional charges for all-you-can-drink and barbecue). There is a charge for leftover food, and when ordering additional soft drinks, you must finish your current glass before ordering more. The dishes we ordered this time included:
- Cheese Dakgalbi Tray: A large iron plate with chicken, cheese, and rice cakes sizzling on top, creating a delicious aroma. The combination of cheese, chicken, and gochujang with sweet rice cakes was very tasty.
- Samgyupsal: Thick slices of pork belly grilled and wrapped in lettuce with ssamjang, a classic Korean dish. We selected a cut of meat with less fat, which was juicy and delicious.
- Japchae: A dish with meat, vegetables, and chewy glass noodles, perfect as a break from the meat dishes.
- Gyeranjjim: A savory steamed egg dish with fish and vegetable broth, which was fluffy and delicious.
- Kongnamul Guk: A light and refreshing bean sprout soup that paired well with the meat dishes.
- Wakame Soup: A classic Korean dish that was light and refreshing, perfect as a palate cleanser.
- Appetizers (Green chili peppers, Negi Salad): We ordered these separately, and the pickled green chili peppers had a complex flavor, while the Negi Salad paired perfectly with the Samgyupsal.
Overall, the food was delicious, with generous portions and a home-cooked feel. The staff seemed to be handling large groups with just a couple of people, so it was busy during lunchtime. The ordering system was through a smartphone-like device, so it's best to take your time and clearly communicate your order. The reservation system using buttons at the seats may sometimes be faulty, so be cautious. It was a great value and a delicious restaurant, and I will definitely visit again!
