- Yuzu and Chestnut Bread @ 421 yen (tax included)
The refreshing scent of yuzu and the combination of crushed chestnuts in syrup are wonderful. The moist dough is also sweet and delicious.
- Coffee Caramel @ 324 yen
The marriage of coffee bitterness and caramel's fragrant sweetness. With plenty of hazelnuts, the texture is crunchy.
- Bagel (Plain) @ 194 yen
A delicious bagel with a moist and chewy texture. Despite being a simple item, you can feel the high quality. I had it as a sandwich with ham and cheese.
- Bagel (Apple and Grape) @ 270 yen
A bagel with rum-flavored apple and two types of raisins. The dough is similar to plain bagel, moist and chewy. You can also buy it in Tokyo Hibiya, but it was a good choice for a souvenir. Rediscovered the deliciousness of bagels.

For a home party, I wanted a little bit of bread, so I bought "Croque Monsieur" and "Bacon Epi" from this department store. The bread is delicious, so I think the "Croque Monsieur" is also delicious. The "Bacon Epi" has a good flavor that comes out more as you chew, but it's just too hard... My jaw gets tired from eating it. My partner was worried about their teeth. It was the hardest Epi I've ever had.

I can't easily go to the main store in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, but it's easy to go to Daimaru Kyoto store. I wandered around to buy bread for the next day. When looking for bread with plenty of butter and fats and fewer additives, I ended up choosing bagels and baguettes. The plain bagel costs 205 yen and is baked with steam. It didn't have a glossy appearance, so it seemed dry, but when I chewed it, it was chewy and fluffy. Even though it's plain, it has a strong flavor and a sweet taste. It's light and not too chewy, making it perfect for sandwiches. However, a glossy appearance would be more appealing.

I tried the cherry and white chocolate bread and it lives up to its reputation! It's filled with chunks of chocolate, white chocolate, and dried cherries. It's a chocolate lover's dream. The lemon bread has a refreshing touch of honey and lemon that adds a nice accent to the baguette. It's delicious too.

I strolled around Nishiki Market from Shijo Kawaramachi in Kyoto! The atmosphere seemed to have changed a bit since my last visit. There were still many foreigners around. I didn't have a specific goal in mind, so I just walked around. When I left Nishiki Market, I came across Daimaru Kyoto store! I planned to take a break here, but there were few chairs on the first basement floor, so I decided to go to a bakery where I could sit and have a rest. Le Petit Mec has around 10 to 15 seats. Since I had already eaten lunch, I opted for an iced coffee instead of bread. It seems that many people buy bread and eat it in the store. I will try their bread next time.

Oh no, this place is also a past top 100 shop... I paid 280 yen with my card for the popular No. 1 milk French toast with rum raisins... Took a bite outside... The French bread is hard and has a taste of alcohol? It's a bit of a downside, but it's sweet and the crunchy walnuts are delicious... Let's go to the next place.

I bought a bacon-filled epi for 285 yen, a tea and almond croissant for 385 yen, and a plain bagel for 205 yen, totaling around 875 yen. I happened to pass by Daimaru and bought them there, then ate by the Kamo River! Daimaru has many bakeries, so it can be confusing to choose. But I wanted to eat Lupchimek's bread after a long time. It ended up being a different type than my usual favorite, but hard bread is really delicious. The bacon epi was crispy and tasty, and I can see why it's popular. There is also an eat-in space here, so be sure to visit!

I visited here in the basement of Daimaru Kyoto. There is a spacious eat-in space on the left side after entering. Since it was evening, the selection of items was limited. I had the "chapata" for takeout. It was a soft chapata with no particular standout features.

Located just a 1-minute walk from Hankyu Kyoto Line's "Karasuma Station" (directly connected by underground passage) and a 2-minute walk from Subway Karasuma Line's "Shijo Station" (directly connected by underground passage), this bakery is situated right by the north entrance of the department store basement. They have an eat-in corner where you can enjoy coffee as well. I bought breakfast bread for tomorrow. Their popular bread is the Yuzu and Chestnut Panpuchimekku. It contains candied yuzu and chestnuts, creating a delicious balance of refreshing yuzu aroma and sweet candied chestnuts. You can also use it as a cafe by getting a coffee set. Before returning to Nagoya from Kyoto, I decided to get some bread to take out. Even though Le Petit Mec has expanded beyond Kyoto, I have also tried their bread at the Hibiya store. Similar to the Hibiya store, this location is very popular with over half of the seating area filled up. The Milk France I had at the Hibiya store had a sinful sweetness that I liked, but the Milk France here had a different filling. It was a Milk France for adults with a strong walnut flavor and a hint of rum in the homemade cream. I prefer more traditional flavors, so I was a bit disappointed. However, I discovered a hit that I didn't see at the Hibiya store - the Marble Donut. Intrigued by the label "masterpiece," I chose the marble flavor and was impressed by the texture. It had a unique chewiness that was different from bread or donuts, and the chocolate flavor that expanded as I chewed was also good. I used to like the Sichuan Pepper Baguette and Milk France at the Hibiya store, but I wonder if each store has different recommended bread and tastes? I'm thinking of visiting other locations to find out.

This is a bakery located in Daimaru Kyoto, on Shijo Street. It is the third store of Le Petit Mec, which has a total of 9 stores in Kyoto. They offer a variety of attractive bread, mainly French-style. You can also eat in the store. It opened in June 2014. The location is on the basement floor of Daimaru Kyoto, directly connected to Karasuma Station and Shijo Station. I visited in the afternoon. The store layout includes a bread sales area on the right and seating area on the left. The bread is sold face-to-face, and the payment is the same for both takeout and eat-in. Since it was late, the bread selection was limited. They had hard bread, sandwich bread, bagels, and pastries. I bought the following items (prices include tax):
- Pain de Mie (6 slices) (375 yen): A versatile and fluffy bread with a diameter of about 11.5cm. It has a nice elasticity to it.
- Plain Bagel (205 yen): A dense and chewy bread with a diameter of about 9.5-11cm.
- Ciabatta (145 yen): An olive oil-infused bread with a length of about 13cm. Perfect for sandwiches!
- Lemon and Macadamia Nut Bread (255 yen): A popular bread with lemon peel and macadamia nuts, with a refreshing lemon flavor.
It's convenient to buy bread while shopping at Daimaru Kyoto. Le Petit Mec Kyoto is a pioneer in French-style bakeries. Other stores include Imadegawa, Oike, Omake, Hibiya, Shinsaibashi, Shin-Osaka Station, Kyoto Station, and Hankyu Umeda Main Store.

A bakery originating from Kyoto in 1998, known for using safe and high-quality ingredients. It has expanded to locations in Kyoto, Osaka, and Hibiya. I visited their branch at Daimaru Kyoto, where there was always a long line. Despite the fierce competition in Tokyo's bakery scene, this bakery stands out. The unique feature is that the staff, not the founder or owner, make the bread. I visited the eat-in area at the back of the store to take a break from shopping. The place was bustling with inbound customers. They offer a variety of bread, particularly noticeable are the hard bread and side dish bread. I purchased some items and enjoyed them in the eat-in area. Recently, Tokyo bakeries have been offering appealing Japanese-style side dish bread, which caught my attention. One of the items I tried was the Eggplant and Lotus Root Bolognese, which had a fresh taste and texture. The bakery also offered a Coffee Caramel Danish, Kirsch-infused Cranberry bread, and a Milk French bread with Rum Raisin cream. Overall, it was a delightful experience trying out these unique bread options.

The yuzu and chestnut bread was sold out, which was disappointing. I decided to switch to my usual shopping and picked up a reliable baguette. I asked the staff to cut it in half. The baguette had a crispy crust and a soft interior. I stored it in the pantry instead of the freezer and enjoyed half of it on the second day. This baguette pairs well with any appetizer, especially cheese.

Kyoto Daimaru, Petit Mecさん is like the Robuchon of Kyoto, it's everywhere. This bucket bread has a nice wheat flavor and is delicious. This time, I tried the one with chocolate inside. Bliss. There's a big piece of chocolate inside. When you warm it up in the oven a bit, the deliciousness doubles. It was so delightful. Thank you for the feast.

I knew about the popular store Petit Meck in Kyoto, but I didn't have the opportunity to visit until now. I went to the Daimaru store for the first time and there were still quite a few products available in the evening. I was a bit overwhelmed trying to decide which one to choose because the staff picks the items for you and I couldn't wander around freely. I ended up getting a hard bread with Camembert cheese and a donut with almonds and chocolate. The bread with Camembert cheese had a firm texture and the taste of the bread itself was delicious. However, I was feeling a bit uncomfortable due to jaw pain at that time. The almond and chocolate donut had a slightly chewy texture and the sweet chocolate paired perfectly with it. It was a satisfying and delicious treat. I wonder if the products vary by store at Petit Meck? There were still many tempting items, so I would like to visit again and try more!

I felt like there were more varieties of donuts than other stores, but I wasn't particularly drawn to them. I selected something simple. The milk bread was soft when fresh and moist when toasted. It's not overly sweet, but has the delicious taste of wheat. The bagel (plain) for 205 yen was average, nothing special. It was puffy and firm, without a hole. The ciabatta (potato) for 145 yen was a simple focaccia with a good elasticity.

I bought breakfast this morning! The bread I randomly chose had a good texture. The Milk France with not too sweet cream was delicious! The sweet potato and apple bread had plenty of filling, satisfying with every bite. The ham and onion bread had tasty ham and lots of it! Every bread I tried was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

The petite Meck-san is truly amazing. The bagels that you can't buy in Kanto are delicious. It's simple but has a chewy texture and a nice sweetness to the dough, making it easy to eat even without any toppings. I hope that someday Meck-san will expand to Tokyo and offer their bagels there as well.
