It was like having curry from Matsuya and miso soup from Yoshinoya... in Ikebukuro Nishiguchi, on Romances Street. It used to be a Watami "Izakaya" called "Wamiza" at the corner where the famous coffee shop "Jotakichi" was. In the basement of that building on the corner. It's a lunch set at an izakaya. "Fried Chicken Curry" (650 yen) + "Extra Rice" (50 yen) + "Mini Salad" (100 yen) + "Crab Cream Croquette" (659 yen?) - as shown in the photo. The curry tasted like Matsuya, and the miso soup tasted like Yoshinoya. Unfortunately, I'm a fan of Yoshinoya's beef bowl, but I don't really like their miso soup. Matsuya, on the other hand, I only visit once every 3-4 years, but last year and this year, I had the Matsuya Premium Curry and Original Curry once each as a challenge with a reviewer on Tabelog. The curry is what you would call spicy, but Matsuya's version is quite salty. This curry makes you unusually thirsty. The fried chicken came with a soy sauce-based marinade, which was quite delicious. The mini salad was a good deal for an additional 100 yen. The miso soup had that instant Yoshinoya-like flavor. The crab cream croquette had a frozen food feel to it, similar to what you would find at Watami. However, it had a decent crab-like flavor and creamy texture. The coating was uniform and thick. The value for money was quite poor. Also, the rice quality wasn't good. It didn't taste like the original rice flavor but rather like it was cooked or stored improperly. Furthermore, the water served in a glass at the beginning tasted extremely bad, like melted ice that had been in the freezer for a long time. If they are using this water to cook the rice, then it makes sense. The fried chicken and mini salad were okay, but that's about it. Thank you for the meal. Wamiza claims to be particular about their ingredients, but it didn't seem like they were particular about many things. Therefore, I think it's okay to have the fried chicken and salad there. Also, there was something about their business practice that I didn't like. I entered the restaurant around noon, with no customers before me. At least two groups of customers who came in after me requested the "Grilled Saury Set" but were told it was sold out. While it's true that the lunch menu states "limited quantity," I wonder if all of them were sold out by around 11:30, before I arrived? Apart from the "Grilled Saury Set" (650 yen), the only other grilled fish option on the lunch menu is the "Grilled Mackerel Set" (700 yen). I think both groups were in that situation. The business practice of luring customers in with the 650 yen saury and then offering the 700 yen mackerel option is something I dislike the most. If it's not available, they should mark it as sold out on the menu. While there is also the choice to leave if it's not available, going down the stairs to the basement makes that decision harder. Well, it's probably not intentional, but it affects the feelings of those who came in wanting saury. (By: Kyonatsu Shuusora, 2020.11.20) (6 reviews/3.01)
