Sometimes I use the restaurant "Nabezo" for lunch. A few months ago, I went to the Sunshine Street branch in Ikebukuro for lunch and thought it was delicious, so this time I visited the branch in Shinjuku Sanchome. I had visited this branch only once before a long time ago, so this was my second visit. Even though I was dining alone, I had made a reservation in advance for the lunch course at Nabezo. Since the GoTo Eat campaign, I have found it less bothersome to make reservations than before, and I have come to understand the importance of reservations for the restaurant, so I try to make reservations whenever possible. I arrived after 12 pm, and the restaurant was not crowded. Japanese shabu-shabu is popular among foreign visitors, so I imagine the restaurant used to be bustling with inbound tourists a few years ago. I hope that the former lively atmosphere will return to the restaurant... I pondered over such unnecessary matters while enjoying my lunch. I ordered two plates of beef chuck roast and one plate of pork chuck roast. I prefer eating a lot of vegetables, so I don't order a large amount of meat. There are more affordable set menus for lunch, but those come with one plate of beef and one plate of pork, so I hesitated between those and the all-you-can-eat course here. The Nabezo course includes a drink bar and ice cream, so I opted for this course. The meat looked good and seemed to be of good quality. I don't like fatty meat, so I like the lean meat at Nabezo. The vegetables are displayed on a buffet table in the center of the restaurant, and you can serve yourself wearing plastic gloves. I couldn't find many red-colored vegetables like carrots, but there were cherry tomatoes. The vegetables were mostly green or white, lacking a bit of color. Perhaps due to the limited number of customers, the selection of vegetables seemed a bit strict. I noticed thick slices of sweet potatoes, so I decided to have them as dessert later. I was pleasantly surprised to find shredded konjac in addition to macaroni, as I prefer konjac over macaroni! I also took plenty of tofu, shrink spinach, and other healthy ingredients piled on my plate. And of course, I couldn't miss out on the delicious udon here! The boiled udon in a small bowl was wrapped in plastic, and it had a great texture and taste, impressing me. The service was good, and they asked frequently if I needed additional meat. The manager-like man was attentive throughout. However, the box seat where I sat had very dim lighting, making it hard to see the food clearly. Eating in the dim light felt a bit awkward. But overall, it was a very pleasant lunchtime in a spacious and clean restaurant, with the great service making it a good experience. I would definitely consider visiting again when I feel like having shabu-shabu.
