Located near the Beppu Bridge intersection on Beppu Bridge Street, east of the Fukuoka City Jōnan Ward Office, is the flagship udon restaurant of the popular group in the Fukuoka udon world known as Toyama Urauchi-kai. Toyama Urauchi-kai was formed in 2003 by the owner of the udon restaurant Men Tsuda-ya Kanbei in Kokura Minami Ward, Kitakyushu City, Kazuhiro Yokoyama, who was driven by the pursuit of original "ultimate udon" and gathered a group of expert udon craftsmen who dared to break free from conventions. The name of the group reflects their humble yet proud attitude, comparing themselves to "Toyama udon" as the "back" to "Sanuki udon" as the "front". The group respects Sanuki udon while overturning common sense and making it a rule to use a soup that is boiled without boiling, made with a mixture of Rausu kelp, katsuobushi, saba flakes, and urume iwashi flakes to bring out the flavor of soy sauce. Currently, there are 40 officially recognized shops of the group mainly in Fukuoka Prefecture, all of which are highly acclaimed and popular, becoming the "new axis" of Fukuoka udon. Udon Washoku, located here, is one of the 40 shops of Toyama Urauchi-kai, where Yoshio Kazumi, who learned udon making under Shingo Sora, the owner of the popular shop Daichi no Udon, which spread the group's udon in Hakata, opened the shop in 2008. The shop has become popular by evolving the "Tsuda-ya style" noodle making and soup while ensuring the training of successors. Other shops such as Takahama-ya in Sawara Ward, Fukuoka City, Kanjuya Kansuke in Miyazaki City, and Sankun Sanku in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, were founded by staff members who independently opened shops and were officially recognized by Toyama Urauchi-kai. The popular menu here is the "Gobo Udon" with a "laurel crown" shaped burdock tempura created by the original Men Tsuda-ya Kanbei, which is the number one choice! The big size of about 25 centimeters in diameter surpasses the original and is gaining even more popularity for its photogenic appeal. In addition, faithfully following the popular menu "Vegetable Tempura Bukkake" of the master shop Daichi no Udon has become another popular menu that does not lose to "Gobo Udon".

When I went back home, I just had to eat udon, and for udon lovers in Fukuoka, the famous Toyomae Uradachi-kai is a must-visit. I couldn't decide between the cold bukkake options, so I chose the Gobo Tempura, Ebi Tempura, Gyudon, and Tororo with Onsen Tamago. The udon noodles were thin, chewy, and had a great texture. The secret ingredient in Toyomae Uradachi-kai's noodles is something that makes them chewy and delicious. I want to come back again when it's a bit cooler and try the warm udon next time. I'm already getting hungry again...

During a business trip in Fukuoka, I visited Udon Wasuke Honten for a solo lunch on Saturday. The location is about a 4-minute walk from Beppu Station. Wasuke is a popular udon restaurant from the popular Buzen Urauchi Association. I arrived around 11:20 and there were already 7 people waiting, including in the waiting area inside the restaurant. I sat on a bench outside and chose my order while waiting. After about 15 minutes, my turn came and I entered the restaurant. The system involves ordering at a ticket machine (or informing the staff if using QR code payment). This time, I ordered the Tempura Bukkake for 1,300 yen, extra meat for 280 yen, and a Mini Katsu Don for 350 yen, totaling 1,930 yen. There are 21 seats in total, including counter and table seats. I sat alone at the counter. The table was equipped with toppings like tempura flakes, spicy condiments, chopsticks, spoon, toothpicks, paper napkins, and a pitcher of water for self-service. After sitting down, the food arrived in about 20 minutes. The Tempura Bukkake had a substantial amount of tempura - 2 shrimp, 8 types of vegetables, topped with meat, grated radish, chopped green onions, and seaweed. The udon noodles were firm and had a great texture, complementing the flavorful broth well. The Mini Katsu Don also had a decent portion size and was a good value at 350 yen. Despite its popularity, Wasuke provides excellent service. I recommend visiting Wasuke for a great dining experience.

I've recently been hooked on Toyomae Uradashi-kai. It's reliably delicious. Although there are many branches, I went to the main store today. We had to wait for 2 groups by 10:45, and by the time it opened at 11, it was already full. It was hot outside, but I wanted to eat hot udon, so I added tempura to my udon with lots of toppings. I added tempura to my Wakame, shrimp tempura, kitsune, and burdock tempura. The Toyomae Uradashi-kai style "gunpowder" (all toppings) is available for bukkake udon, but not for kake udon. The flat, transparent noodles are the same at all stores, as well as the broth. It's just delicious. I might try to visit all the stores!

I have been to Wasuke's restaurant several times, and I finally tried the udon with eggplant that I had been curious about. The eggplant was soft and sweet, and it paired well with the broth. It was also very filling and delicious. I would definitely like to eat it again.

I have been a repeat customer so many times that I've lost count! I ordered the cold vegetable tempura udon and the mini katsudon. I get this every time. The vegetable tempura has 8 different kinds and is crispy and delicious. I also love that the mini donburi is only 350 yen.

The ticket machine has been changed! That's so helpful! I went at night for the first time, and the atmosphere was different from during the day, which was great! I've been on a diet recently, but I can eat udon without feeling guilty, which is amazing! The clear noodles are chewy, and even without getting the large size, I feel satisfied, which is amazing! I recommend it for those who want to eat out while on a diet! When it comes to summer, it's all about cold udon! I love that they come with ginger, but it would be even better if it came with wasabi! I love wasabi so much, so having it with udon makes me happy.

I visited the famous udon restaurant, Wasuke, which is known for being a part of the renowned Buzen Urauchi-kai, around 7 pm to avoid the lunchtime crowds. Despite the time, there were still about three people waiting in line. I was able to wait comfortably in a chair, and I felt excited looking at the menu. I ordered the Small Shrimp Bukkake Udon (950 yen) and handed over the food ticket before being seated. Within 10 minutes of sitting down, my order was served. To my surprise, the dish came with burdock tempura! I was a bit regretful for not ordering the famous burdock tempura, so I was thrilled to see it included. The udon itself was amazing, with a shiny and chewy texture that was satisfying to eat. The noodles had a great presence when going down the throat. The only downside was that I ordered it as a bukkake style, and I felt that it would have been even more delicious as zaru, kama-tama, or kake udon. The small shrimp tempura was firm and bouncy, and the burdock tempura was crispy and light. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish, and it's no wonder there's always a line. There are still many menu items I'm curious about, so I definitely want to visit again!

In Fukuoka, the final lunch was udon. I searched for burdock tempura udon and found this restaurant. It was past 2 pm so I was able to enter without waiting. It was convenient that various electronic money could be used. I chose the burdock tempura udon (650 yen) located in the top left of the ticket machine. However, when using electronic money, I had to communicate with the staff in an analog way. They kindly asked if I wanted the burdock on a separate plate for easy eating, so I requested it. What arrived was a mountain of burdock tempura. It made quite an impact. I couldn't resist and immediately put the burdock tempura in my mouth. It was crispy and fried well. The aroma and flavor of the burdock spread gently in my mouth. The clear udon broth. This is it. Hakata udon. I could drink the broth endlessly. And the udon. It wasn't soft and chewy, but had a strong chewy texture. It was not slippery like Inaniwa udon, but had a new texture. I mixed the burdock tempura into the broth halfway through and ate it. The broth soaked into the batter and it was delicious. There are endless delicious things out there. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I visited this place. I ordered the regular udon with burdock tempura at the ticket machine. The staff asked if I wanted the burdock tempura served on a separate plate for easier eating, which was a nice touch. The interior of the restaurant had BGM playing by Mr. Children, and after a short wait, my udon arrived. It had a simple presentation, but the broth was gentle and I couldn't stop slurping it up. The burdock tempura was served separately, allowing me to enjoy it on its own or dip it in the broth. There were also various types of chili peppers available, and adding yuzu flavor to the broth gave it a nice twist. I finished almost all of the broth and left feeling very satisfied. I was feeling tired both mentally and physically, so I decided to visit a restaurant I wanted to go to for a change of pace. However, when I arrived, there were several groups of customers waiting in line, and the queue was not moving. Since I didn't have much time, I gave up and went to a nearby restaurant called "Udon Wasuke." Even though I wasn't in the mood for udon, I was quickly seated at the counter. I ordered a tempura bowl set, but was told that the tempura would take 20 minutes. So, I changed my order to a round tempura udon and two kashiwa onigiri. I really felt like eating rice today. While waiting, I listened to the 80s and 90s music videos playing in the background. It was nostalgic to hear songs like Jitterin' Jinn, Rebecca, and Junska. Unexpectedly starting my day at an udon restaurant with the song "Start" was quite something! It made me think about the past and how tough things used to be. After a 20-minute wait, my round tempura udon arrived. It was delicious, with a gentle yet strong aftertaste. The tempura was thick and sweet, and the udon had just the right amount of firmness. Everything felt just right for me today. The kashiwa onigiri had a gentle flavor as well. As I ate, I couldn't help but imagine that the owner was from the same generation as me. I felt moved by his kindness. Just as I was enjoying my udon and forgetting about the tempura, the owner apologized for the wait and brought me a small portion of tempura as a gesture of goodwill. It was delicious and heartwarming. I was touched by the owner's kindness. I casually stopped by, but the food was delicious. The nostalgic background music was perfect for a change of pace. Udon restaurant in Beppu. Visited during lunchtime. It had been a few years since my last visit, and I was surprised to see a ticket machine installed. ~Order~ Udon set (katsutendon) 800 yen I actually wanted to try the burdock tempura, but I was surprised by the sudden appearance of the ticket machine and made a mistake in my order. The light golden broth, reminiscent of Fukuoka, was delicious with a strong dashi flavor. The udon noodles were quite thin for Fukuoka standards, but had a good texture. It seems like they belong to the Buzen Urauchi-kai udon association, which might explain this characteristic. The katsutendon was average, neither good nor bad. I enjoyed it and finished my meal. ~Summary~ While I prefer thicker and softer udon noodles in Fukuoka, I actually quite liked the taste of these. The cost performance is good, so I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this place again after a long time since it first opened. The broth is not overpowering and has a subtle umami flavor. The large pieces of burdock tempura, unique to Tsudaya Kanpei, follow the traditional style of the group's udon. It was delicious, and the separate dish style was easy to eat. They also seem to offer various creative udon dishes, so I will try them next time. Maintaining the same taste over time is difficult, but I think they are doing a great job.

It's been a while, went to Wasuke-san's place again~ Got the Gobo Tempura Udon~ Gobo served on a separate plate~ I love the taste so much~ The noodles are transparent~ Can park two cars~ I wasn't confident in parking so I went to a nearby parking lot~ There was a neighboring shop~ Last time I got coffee from a different place so I couldn't get it this time~ What a shame~❕

I ordered the large portion of meat and burdock udon with shrimp tempura topping, and a mini pork cutlet bowl! The burdock tempura is huge! It's so big that it doesn't fit in the bowl! The taste is crispy and delicious! The shrimp tempura is also large and very satisfying to eat! And this udon is incredibly delicious! The rich umami flavor of the broth and the noodles have just the right amount of chewiness, which I like! The beef slices are also generous and full of flavor, so delicious! Famous udon restaurant in Rokumonsen, Fukuoka. Was able to enter without waiting too long. Ordered the burdock udon without hesitation. The burdock tempura can be served on a separate plate, but I chose to have it on top. The thick and generous burdock tempura covered the noodles so you couldn't see the soup! The chewy and delicious thin noodles, flavorful soup. Truly delicious! Thank you for the meal!

The first time at Yasuke Udon, the impact of the tempura udon was amazing! The portion was quite generous too! I might have mispronounced it because I ordered the tempura udon, but got the tempura udon instead. A little shocking! But the taste was really delicious. The mentaiko kamatama udon is just bound to be delicious! Like they say, the grass is always greener on the other side, food that others order always seems tastier! If you feel like having udon, you should definitely give it a try!

Visited the famous udon restaurant "Buzen Uradaikai Udon Wasuke" for the first time with a friend on a holiday Monday at 12:20 pm. Upon arrival, we found the restaurant full with customers, so we had to wait inside. The restaurant had implemented various COVID-19 measures such as automatic temperature checks, hand sanitizers, acrylic dividers at the counter seats, and thick vinyl partitions in front of the counter. We finally got a table after waiting for 3 minutes. We ordered the Vegetable Tempura Udon for 900 yen and the Shiso Sappari Udon for 750 yen. The noodles were slightly soft and had a transparent appearance, with a great texture and perfect harmony with the broth. The tempura was crispy and delicious, with various vegetables like pumpkin, eggplant, carrot, burdock, bell pepper, and shiso leaves. My friend preferred the Vegetable Tempura Udon over the Shiso Sappari Udon as it had more variety in flavor. The restaurant had a high turnover rate and was decorated with autographs of many celebrities and Softbank Hawks players. As we left, a new line of customers was forming. Overall, it was a satisfying lunch experience.

Around 2:00 PM on Sunday, it was hot so I decided to ride my bike to this place for some cold udon. Even though it was a late hour, there was a wait of 2 groups ahead of me... After about 15 minutes, I was able to enter. I had the cold shiso udon with onigiri (sesame salt and yukari). The udon had plenty of toppings, but everything was refreshing and the noodles were smooth, so I enjoyed it all. The onigiri was large and the seasoning was just right, making it delicious.

I ended up at Udon Wasuke in search of delicious udon. The prices are affordable and the portions are satisfying at this well-known Fukuoka-style udon shop. The Gobo Udon features soft yet firm, translucent thin noodles with a crispy gobo tempura that resembles petals. It reminded me of the first time I had it at the now-closed "Udon Prince," leaving a lasting impression. The tempura is not thin but has a crispy texture. The Nankansei Aged Udon comes with three large, fluffy pieces of tempura with a slightly sweet flavor that doesn't overpower the broth. The Katsutoji Don is delicious with tender katsu, although I wish there was a bit more broth to avoid interfering with the udon.
