The frozen tempura is pressed on a hot plate to make it into chips. It seems to be imitating the trend of pressing octopus or crab into senbei in the Enoshima area, but the result is lacking in quality. The level is like the shrimp tempura in a bento box that costs 600 yen. The staff seems unenthusiastic while waiting in a slow-moving line due to the narrow street causing congestion. It's a problem, especially in the current pandemic situation. There are many more delicious Asakusa specialties to try. Thank you for the meal.

A shop that presses tempura into senbei crackers. They use pre-made tempura and it's nothing special. It's not bad though, with a nice crispy texture. When they press it, a huge amount of oil comes out, which is a bit shocking. It really makes you realize how oily tempura can be. However, the customer service is not good. The lady there seems disinterested and there's a lot of small talk. So, I have to deduct some points for that.

Impression:
It was the middle day of a three-day weekend, and my husband, who has recently reignited his passion for horse racing, suggested we go to Asakusa. He was so excited, while I was left with some free time to enjoy food tasting on my own! I had been wanting to try this place ever since I saw it on TV when it first opened. The tempura was so flat and compressed, it almost didn't look like tempura at all! I wanted to try the daifuku too, but this time I went with the shrimp tempura chips. They were crispy and had a texture more similar to senbei than tempura. Because they were compressed, they were lighter and easier to eat than regular tempura.

While strolling around Asakusa for sightseeing, I stumbled upon this place. The food looked unique, perfect for eating while walking, and it was delicious. It was quite crowded on the first day of the 3-day weekend, so it took a bit of time to get served. If you're short on time, it might be difficult to visit.

On a Saturday afternoon, there were about 10 people in line when I arrived, but I ended up waiting for about 30 minutes from lining up to receiving my order. The machine can only press about 6 pieces of tempura at a time (taking 2 and a half minutes each), so the process is quite slow. The line for ordering and the line for receiving orders were mixed up, making it confusing to know where to stand. If someone in front of you orders daifuku, you will have to wait even longer. There were condiments like matcha salt and wasabi salt available for self-service. I noticed a large freezer in the store, so I assume the tempura is frozen. The tempura of the season was sweet potato. Despite the long wait this time, I would like to try other flavors, so I hope to visit again when it's less crowded.

Next to Hangetsudo, famous for its jumbo melon pan, is Tempura Chips! It's a novel idea to flatten tempura and eat it as chips! Choose your favorite tempura, press the start button yourself, and wait about 2 minutes for the hot tempura chips to be ready. It was fun and interesting (*^^*). It wasn't as greasy as regular tempura, more like a snack. I'd like to try it with other tempura too.

They press it right in front of you and give it to you freshly made, so it's very hot! It's a size that you can eat quickly and easily.

It was like frozen tempura pressed into a senbei-like snack! The taste was as expected, quite mild. It was interesting to see it demonstrated. I tried the shrimp and pumpkin flavors, and the pumpkin was tastier.

This shop located on a side street near Asakusa Temple had a line even on a weekday. They press about 5 groups at once, and one person in each group presses a button that makes the tempura flat! It's fun to watch the moment it gets pressed. The shrimp tempura chips cost 600 yen. They really do get flat! The texture is not crispy but rather firm and chewy, especially the tail part. They offer different types of salt like regular, matcha, and wasabi to dip them in, which brings out the flavor. It's a rice cracker that you can enjoy both visually and taste-wise. I was very satisfied.

Tempura is pressed and turned into something like senbei (rice crackers)! You can sprinkle salt on it according to your preference. I find tempura a bit heavy, but by pressing it, there is no excess oil so it feels light to eat ☺︎︎ It's hard to explain, but I thought it was a new type of food! It was a bit surprising to see elderly people lining up as well, but it seems like it would also be popular on Instagram, and the fact that people of all ages and genders can enjoy it is great ☺︎︎

Next to the famous Melonpan shop Hangetsudo (located in Asakusa Nishi-sando), I was recommended by a friendly guy to try the tempura chips. I chose the mixed vegetable tempura chips! They were really interesting and tasty, but at 500 yen per piece, they were quite expensive (laughs). It was definitely tourist pricing!

It's better to eat it with shrimp fry, it's very thin and crispy, like a rice cracker.

The tempura here tastes like real shrimp! I think it's an interesting restaurant with a unique tempura press.
