I went to the original pork bowl restaurant TONTON Sumiyoshi store, located about 500m south of the 4th street from Tokyo Metro and Toei Sumiyoshi Station, alone around 17:40 on a weekday. This was because I could use the shopping vouchers from Koto Shopping Street DE starting from July 1, 2023, and the year 2023. The restaurant, opened in April 2022, had two tatami seats for 4 people near the entrance, two 4-person table seats behind them, three 2-person table seats, and a 3-seat counter style. The pork bowl photos on the wall were impressive and appetizing, especially the top-tier one priced at 3,980 yen tax included, which could be eaten for free if finished within 30 minutes. There were no other customers at the time, so I was free to sit wherever I liked and chose a 2-person seat on the left side. The background music in the store was Japanese pop songs. Initially, a young man was operating alone, but later a young woman joined. I selected the half & half bowl of pork belly and Hokkaido Obihiro pork loin for 968 yen tax included from the menu because I wanted to enjoy both flavors if possible. I also added a hot spring egg for 165 yen tax included, which turned out to be a great choice. The half & half bowl, each containing 3 slices of pork belly and pork loin, arrived after about 15 minutes. The well-cooked black sauced pork belly and soft white pork loin were served with plenty of green onions and green peas on top. There was also miso soup and yellow pickled radish. The runny hot spring egg, with its shell intact, was cracked and placed on top of the pork bowl. Oh, the yolk was so creamy! The pork bowl was surprisingly not too heavy in flavor, with the thick and tender pork belly and the even softer pork loin complemented by the hot spring egg. The white pork loin was even softer and more enjoyable. The sauce could be added and mixed with the rice, making it even more delicious. It was delicious. However, the portion size of the pork bowl on the menu is huge, with a small note indicating it is a mega size, which could be misleading as it looks like a regular portion. Nonetheless, even the regular portion provided plenty of pork to enjoy, and TONTON, the original pork bowl restaurant, offers a delicious pork bowl that I highly recommend!
