I went to the original pork bowl restaurant TONTON Sumiyoshi store, located about 500m south of the 4th street from Tokyo Metro and Toei Sumiyoshi Station, alone around 17:40 on a weekday. This was because I could use the shopping vouchers from Koto Shopping Street DE starting from July 1, 2023, and the year 2023. The restaurant, opened in April 2022, had two tatami seats for 4 people near the entrance, two 4-person table seats behind them, three 2-person table seats, and a 3-seat counter style. The pork bowl photos on the wall were impressive and appetizing, especially the top-tier one priced at 3,980 yen tax included, which could be eaten for free if finished within 30 minutes. There were no other customers at the time, so I was free to sit wherever I liked and chose a 2-person seat on the left side. The background music in the store was Japanese pop songs. Initially, a young man was operating alone, but later a young woman joined. I selected the half & half bowl of pork belly and Hokkaido Obihiro pork loin for 968 yen tax included from the menu because I wanted to enjoy both flavors if possible. I also added a hot spring egg for 165 yen tax included, which turned out to be a great choice. The half & half bowl, each containing 3 slices of pork belly and pork loin, arrived after about 15 minutes. The well-cooked black sauced pork belly and soft white pork loin were served with plenty of green onions and green peas on top. There was also miso soup and yellow pickled radish. The runny hot spring egg, with its shell intact, was cracked and placed on top of the pork bowl. Oh, the yolk was so creamy! The pork bowl was surprisingly not too heavy in flavor, with the thick and tender pork belly and the even softer pork loin complemented by the hot spring egg. The white pork loin was even softer and more enjoyable. The sauce could be added and mixed with the rice, making it even more delicious. It was delicious. However, the portion size of the pork bowl on the menu is huge, with a small note indicating it is a mega size, which could be misleading as it looks like a regular portion. Nonetheless, even the regular portion provided plenty of pork to enjoy, and TONTON, the original pork bowl restaurant, offers a delicious pork bowl that I highly recommend! Unlimited chopsticks go on and on🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢 --------------------- 【Original Pork Bowl Restaurant】 Located a few minutes walk from Sumiyoshi Station - Obihiro specialty pork bowl - Pork belly bowl: Thick slices of meat marinated in sauce and grilled over charcoal, juicy and flavorful - Pork loin bowl: Tender meat with a light taste - You can choose from "large serving," "special serving," or "mega serving" - I had been on a diet the day before just for this day, so I went for the "mega serving" - Rich flavor and generous portion - I also ordered a highball to go with it - The taste was so good that I finished the mega serving without getting tired of it --------------------- "Finish within [time limit] for a free meal" I would have taken the challenge if I were younger, but it's too late now. It costs [amount] if you don't finish in time❣️

TONTON Original Pork Bowl Restaurant Sumiyoshi Branch 03-6666-2910 2-12-5 Ogikubo, Koto-ku, Tokyo Located a 5-minute walk from Sumiyoshi Station, here you can enjoy the famous Obihiro-style pork bowl at "TONTON" restaurant. - Pork Belly Bowl 858 yen - Pork Loin Bowl 858 yen The Pork Belly Bowl features thick slices of meat marinated in sauce and grilled over charcoal, with 6 slices providing a satisfying volume and deliciousness of the fat. The writer reminisces about their hometown in Sapporo, Hokkaido, where they struggled to find good pork bowls. They recently tried a pork bowl restaurant in Susukino and ordered the Half & Half large serving, which consisted of both belly and loin cuts of pork. The pork was tender and juicy, with a perfect balance of sweet and savory sauce. Despite the slightly higher price, the writer found the dish to be worth every penny and is considering trying the Mega serving next time.

I visited the original pork bowl restaurant "TONTON" located just across the small wooden bridge. While seeing the sign for the challenger wanted "Top Mounting (¥4,378)" inside the store, I tried the delicious "Pork Belly MIX Bowl Mega Serving (¥1,880)" and "Small Udon (¥300)" cautiously. On another day, I tried the "Charred Cheese Pork Belly Bowl (¥880)" and the calorie-conscious "Ladies Set Meal (¥550)" while keeping an eye on the top mount challenge. I revisited with the intention of challenging the top mount, but ended up enjoying the "Thinly Sliced Pork Belly Curry Special Serving (¥1,180)" and the "Thin Pork Belly Bowl (¥680)" deliciously. In the end, I lacked the courage to become a challenger for the top mount and ended my attempts.

When I tried going to the beef bowl restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised by the hearty bowl they served! You can choose between belly or loin, but if you like fatty meat, definitely go for the belly! It was tender and soaked in sauce, leaving me feeling satisfied. Ordering a large size increases the amount of meat! I always thought beef bowls had a small amount of meat, but this place had just the right portion. The cheese and kimchi paired perfectly, and having miso soup included was a nice touch! Personally, I was happy that the glass was ice-cold. Recommended points: * Easy to find, just a straight road from the station * Kids menu available * They also serve alcohol. Reservations are available for weekday dinners (but you can probably walk in without one). Atmosphere: Tatami, table, counter seats. There are more men, but it's easy for a woman to dine alone.

I had the pork belly bowl at the original pork bowl restaurant TONTON in Sumiyoshi. I opted for a regular size as I wanted to eat something light, but the price was a bit... The grilled pork belly had a crispy texture when chewed, which was a bit confusing at first. However, I got used to it after a couple of bites. Personally, I think I would have preferred it a bit more grilled. I tried adding sauce and shichimi pepper halfway through, which added a nice accent. I went before the lunch rush, but it seemed like they were also handling orders from Uber Eats and other delivery services, so I had to wait a bit for my food. Similar to the nearby Chinese restaurant Koryu from the other day, it may not be the best choice when you're short on time.

I happened to come across the Hokkaido specialty Obihiro pork bowl as I was passing by. Even though I had just eaten a bowl of ramen, I couldn't resist and turned left into the nearby alley to check it out. There are two types of pork bowls available - one with belly meat and the other with loin, both priced the same. I chose the loin with less fat. The regular size pork bowl costs 780 yen. You can also opt for a larger portion, which comes with an extra slice of meat. The meal also includes miso soup, two pieces of pickles, and you can add extra sauce according to your preference. If you ever crave Obihiro pork bowl, this place might be worth a visit.

Basically dry. Not much sauce. The pork bowl I had at New Chitose Airport was 100 times better. There were even meat fragments mixed in. Be careful, the portions for large and extra-large sizes may have smaller pieces of meat. You have to call out to the only server to get a refill of water. (They're usually in the kitchen) Disappointing.

I enter the "authentic" pork bowl restaurant with a skeptical mind. The standard pork bowl costs 780 yen, excluding tax. I'm tired of the external tax display. As I wait for my pork belly bowl, I notice that it comes with a lot of green onions, which is not a bad thing. The pork, grilled over charcoal and soaked in sauce, is placed on top of rice. However, the sauce tends to drip off during grilling, resulting in a weaker flavor impact. It would be better if they poured the sauce on at the end. The pork itself is more crispy than juicy, with a decent flavor. In the end, I couldn't determine what is authentic and what is fake, but one thing I did realize is that I miss the pork university that accepts students regardless of academic abilities. Pork Belly Bowl (6 slices of meat): 858 yen

Yamane Nikuten in Sumiyoshi closed down quickly, and a new Obihiro pork bowl restaurant opened in its place. I tried their lunch menu. It seems like a chain or franchise called "One's Train." They are expanding quite rapidly, as seen on their website. These types of newer multi-brand food chains often tend to mimic the established ones in terms of appearance, logo, and menu. The menu design reminds me of Yoshinoya. I ordered the cheapest and most basic pork belly bowl for 780 yen. There are no lunch specials. The staff seemed a bit disorganized, and even though there were takeout customers, the place wasn't too busy. Maybe they should consider installing a food ticket machine. The pork bowl took a while to arrive, and it didn't have the rich, charcoal-grilled appearance like in the menu. It tasted somewhat light, lacking the umami flavor along with the fat. I had to add extra sauce from the table to make it more satisfying. Despite claiming to grill each slice carefully, it felt more like they reheated it on a grill. The miso soup was almost empty of ingredients, giving a lonely impression. Although it was easy to eat for a pork belly dish, it didn't give me the satisfaction of eating a proper pork bowl. I prefer dishes like pork intestines over this. I would rather go to a chain beef bowl restaurant than return here.

TONTON, the original pork bowl restaurant in Sumiyoshi, had a work meeting in Koto Ward, so I decided to walk there after taking the train on this sunny day. I came across a newly opened restaurant with a tempting picture of a pork bowl on the window, so I was drawn in. In addition to curry and fried chicken, I decided to try their pork bowl since it was their specialty. They offered options like pork belly or loin, and even a half-and-half option. The meat was carefully grilled over charcoal, giving it a delicious smoky flavor without feeling too greasy. The seasoning was just right, and I enjoyed it with the sauce provided on the table. It was a satisfying meal at TONTON Sumiyoshi.

A new branch of the pork bowl restaurant TONTON has opened near my company. When I pass by, I can smell the delicious aroma of pork, so I decided to have dinner here. The menu has quite a variety of options, such as pork belly bowl, pork loin bowl, chicken bone bowl, curry, and pork grilled set meal. I am not a fan of greasy food, so I ordered the pork loin bowl. It arrived in about 10 minutes, and the sauce is a self-serve system where you can add as much as you like. The grilled pork loin, about 7 slices, is tender and not too greasy. I think if it was pork belly, it would have been too fatty. The pictures displayed made me a bit hesitant, but the food was actually tastier than I expected.

This was my first time dining in the restaurant. I had previously ordered takeout and enjoyed the pork belly, so this time I ordered the pork belly set meal (large) with extra rice. It was served to me in about 8 minutes after ordering. The meat was thickly sliced yet tender and easy to chew! The sauce and the savory flavor were a perfect match! It's still delicious as ever! I stayed in the restaurant for about 30 minutes, and when I arrived, there were no other customers, and only one person came in later... I'm a little worried, but I think they will thrive if more people get to know about them! I will definitely go back!
