Recently, I have been very interested in history. After being impressed by visiting Osaka Castle, I have been researching about history every day. Starting from January, the release of "What Will You Do, Ieyasu" and "Legend & Butterfly" is scheduled, which excites me even more as they are based on the Sengoku period that I am currently fascinated by. I had a reason to visit Nihonbashi this time, and I visited the famous store "Nihonbashi Nagato," which has been offering sweets to the Tokugawa family for about 300 years since the Edo period. This store is so famous that fans from all over Japan flock to it, and it is always crowded. This time, I specifically went for their specialty, Kyuju Mochi. The fluffy snow-like kinako powder on top was delicious, and the mochi made with 100% soft bracken flour had an indescribable elasticity. Kyuju Mochi, made with the artisan's skill without any preservatives or additives, instantly captivated me, even though I usually prefer Western sweets and rarely eat traditional Japanese sweets. It was so delicious that I ended up buying more wagashi (Japanese sweets) as well. It was a highly recommended store that left me thoroughly satisfied. Thank you for the delicious food.

Kuzumochi for 890 yen. It lasts for 2 days. I wonder if kuzumochi made with warabi flour is different from warabimochi? Well, it doesn't matter. It's delicious!! It's sticky and refreshing when chilled in the refrigerator, perfect for summer. There weren't many people lining up around 2 pm on weekdays, so I was able to purchase it right away. I wonder if Tokugawa Yoshimune also ate this.

On holidays after having lunch, before heading home, I often think about buying souvenirs and bring them back, but this time I wanted to try something different (usually I buy bread). I searched for traditional Japanese sweets and visited a shop called "Nihonbashi Nagato," which has been around for 300 years since the era of Tokugawa Yoshimune. This shop has been selected as one of the top 100 sweets shops in 2022 and 2020, and as one of the top 100 traditional Japanese confectionery shops in 2023. When I entered the shop, I saw a showcase filled with various traditional Japanese sweets such as "manju" and "yokan." I was interested in trying "mochi," so I chose the "Hisago Mochi (made with bracken flour) for 890 yen." The staff mentioned that it has no preservatives or additives, so it should be consumed within two days (until the next day). They recommended chilling it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before eating during the summer. The mochi had a black color and was soft and sweet with a dusting of soybean flour. It melted in the mouth and left a delicate and delicious taste. It was a great souvenir with excellent value for money. I will need to buy some more for myself next time.

After exiting Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit and walking along Sakura Street towards Nihonbashi Takashimaya, you can find a precious and delicious Warabi Mochi for 800 yen. It stays fresh until the next day and the taste remains unchanged. The soft texture and delicious kinako topping create a comforting flavor. I will definitely go back to buy it again. Thank you for the meal.

This shop has a 300-year history. The most popular item is the "Kuju Mochi" (bracken rice cake), which is labeled with the characters "bracken rice cake" in red next to it. This "Kuju Mochi" is completely different from the common triangular Kuju Mochi found in the Kanto region in terms of ingredients and production methods. It has a very soft and smooth texture, with just the right amount of sweetness. The kinako (toasted soybean flour) has a slightly less sweet taste and a very fragrant aroma. It complements the bracken rice cake well. It's so delicious that you'll want to eat it over and over again!

I happened to have some errands nearby, so I stopped by this store on my way from Tokyo Station. I had seen before that their kuzumochi was sold out, but this time they had plenty in stock, which made me happy. The packaging has an old-fashioned style, but it's actually quite eco-friendly. The kuzumochi is covered in plenty of kinako powder, making it a bit challenging to see the mochi itself. It's cut into triangles, which makes it easy to pick up a piece. I took a bite and enjoyed the perfect chewy texture of the mochi with a subtle sweetness. I couldn't stop at just one piece and ended up eating half of it in one go. It's best to finish it on the same day as it only lasts for two days, but I didn't have any problem finishing it all on the day I bought it (laughs). It's great for gifts as well as for personal enjoyment. It's a guilt-free dessert that not only provides carbohydrates but also protein. I will definitely be coming back for more.

Passing by, people are constantly visiting the small storefront with a red roof. I decided to check out the shop, and ended up buying some Kuzumochi (also known as Kyujo Mochi here) and Mizuyokan. The prices were a bit on the high side, but when I had them at home, the Mizuyokan was absolutely delicious. The smooth red bean paste was so carefully made, and the texture was just perfect. The Kuzumochi was different from what I had imagined, more similar to warabi mochi.

This is a takeout item. It uses bracken flour, making it almost like bracken rice cake. It is cut into triangles for easy eating. Unlike the Kanto-style bracken rice cake which is jelly-like, this one is more like a pudding. The texture is melt-in-your-mouth, and the flavor of black syrup is strong and delicious. There is a generous amount of soybean flour, so much so that you may need to think about how to use the leftover soybean flour after finishing the snack. The price is reasonable, making it a perfect gift, whether the recipient likes Japanese sweets or not.

When you exit Tokyo Station on the Yaesu side and walk along Sakura Street, you will find a quiet store. This store has been around since the time of Tokugawa Yoshimune, specializing in traditional Japanese sweets. I was excited to try their famous Hisago-mochi, but unfortunately, they were sold out by the time I arrived at the almost closing store. Instead, I bought some Monaka (6 pieces) with black sesame seeds in the filling. The Monaka shells were surprisingly thin, and they had a decent shelf life. They also had trefoil leaves inside, making them a great souvenir option.

This summer, I was disappointed when I couldn't find my favorite warabi mochi at Ikkoan, so I decided to try my luck at this other famous shop. Here they have kuzumochi instead, which has a similar taste and flavor. The difference between kuzumochi and warabi mochi is the use of kuzu powder or bracken powder as the main ingredient. In Kanto region, kuzumochi is made with wheat flour instead of kuzu powder, giving it a slightly sour taste. The taste was, needless to say, delicious. It had a nice chewy texture while still being bouncy. Since it's within walking distance from Tokyo Station, it could make a great souvenir to bring back for someone.

Just a 2-minute walk from Nihonbashi Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, you'll find the ultra-long-established Japanese confectionery shop "Nihonbashi Nagato," which dates back to the Kyoho era (1716-1735). They have been running a confectionery business since the time of Tokugawa Yoshimune, with a history of about 300 years, which is truly amazing. When I visited in the early evening, there was a group of people waiting. After about 5 minutes, we were able to enter the store and I purchased the Kyujo Mochi. This cute triangle-shaped warabi mochi covered in elegant sweet kinako powder has a delightful texture that makes you want to swallow it without chewing. When I tried chilling it in the refrigerator for a bit, it was even more delicious! During this hot season, I think it's definitely better when chilled. I planned to eat it slowly, but it was so delicious that I finished it in no time. I couldn't forget the taste, so I ended up going back to buy more a few days later. With so many delicious warabi mochi out there, once you try the "Kyujo Mochi" from this store, you might not be able to go back to others. This "Kyujo Mochi" from the same store is so delicious that you'll get addicted to it after just one bite!

I felt like having some traditional Japanese sweets, so I stopped by after a long time. In the middle of the city, when I opened the old-fashioned sliding door, beautifully crafted Japanese sweets were lined up. The Mizuyokan seemed to be a seasonal item, and I was lucky to come across it by chance. It was soft and very easy to eat! Unlike regular Yokan, it was not too sweet, and I came to like Yokan. It was a sweet that can be enjoyed even during this time of summer fatigue! Thank you for the meal!

Nagato has been a renowned sweets shop for about three hundred years, located in Nihonbashi, Edo, near Kanda Tori Shinmachi. The shop was established during the era of Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune. The shop has been providing delicious sweets that even the Tokugawa Shogun must have enjoyed. Eating delicious food brings happiness, a feeling that remains unchanged from the past to the present. - Location: 4 minutes from Nihonbashi Station, 5 minutes from Yaesu Chuo Exit - Opening time: 12:00 PM - Weather: Sunny and hot - Situation: No waiting time - Number of visitors: 1 person - Customer service: Good - Rating at the time of visit: 3.89 ************************************************************************** Bought warabi mochi as a souvenir for someone who helped me, and they were very pleased with it. The mochi can be kept for up to 2 days without preservatives or artificial coloring. [Items purchased] Warabi Mochi (2 pieces) - 890 yen The fluffy texture and gentle sweetness of the mochi are addictive. I forgot to take a picture, but it was delicious! There are many other products available at the shop, and I'm sure they are all delicious. Thank you for the meal! m(_ _)m

I often use it as a summer souvenir. It tends to sell out quickly, so I make sure to visit early in the day. The Kusu Mochi has a shelf life of 2 days, it's soft and has a delicate sweetness from the kinako (soybean flour). Even if you're not a big eater, you can easily finish one on your own. It goes well with green tea or coffee, and if you chill it in the fridge for about 15 minutes during the summer, it becomes even more delicious. The Kiriyokan is steamed yokan cut into small pieces like a wooden block puzzle. It also goes well with tea, coffee, and even alcohol. I bought some for home today, so I took a picture. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

I arrived just past noon on a regular day. There was only one customer in the store, so I was served quickly. I got the famous Kusumochi (890 yen) and sliced yokan (850 yen) to go. Both were delicious, but if I had to choose, the sliced yokan would win. The sliced yokan had a perfect balance of a mochi-like texture and a refined sweetness.

A traditional Japanese confectionery shop located less than a 10-minute walk from Tokyo Station. It's a bit of a walk, but it's highly recommended for souvenirs or when returning home. I visited on a weekday after the Obon holiday, and there were always 1 or 2 people lined up in front of the shop. I bought some traditional Japanese sweets, yokan, mizu yokan, and warabi mochi. Just as others recommended, the warabi mochi was exceptional. The mizu yokan was also lightly sweetened and refreshing, perfect for the hot summer weather. Definitely worth a try.

Visited the store around 12:30 on a weekday with the purpose of trying Mizuyokan. It was my first time at this store and I was able to enter without waiting or lining up. Oh no, the Kiri Yokan is sold out! But it's okay, my goal was the summer limited Mizuyokan. "We have it!" said the staff, which made me relieved. I purchased one (900 yen). The staff gave me a warning: "The Mizuyokan here is delicate, so please carry it home horizontally in this box without putting pressure on it. It's fragile." Seriously? I know that delicious Mizuyokan is soft with less agar and the taste of azuki beans spreads in your mouth. But to be warned this much... When I tried to put it in my work bag and close the zipper, "Roll..." (It flipped over inside the bag!) Seriously? Seriously? Seriously? It did a full flip! Is it okay... my Mizuyokan. When I returned home from work, I kept it horizontal in the paper bag I bought. After dinner, it's time to enjoy! Wow. It didn't break... but what's this? It's so cloudy! Mizuyokan from Nagato! The taste is... I see, the flavor of azuki beans is strong but it feels like it spreads softly in your mouth. Is this cloudiness from kudzu? I wonder what it is. This is elegant. A taste that is hard to come by. It's delicious. It feels like I had a valuable experience. It was fun to try the summer limited Mizuyokan. Next time, I'll try the Kiri Yokan. Thank you for the meal!

I received a gift and was able to purchase it easily around 12 o'clock on Saturday with only a 2-person wait, but by the time I left the store, a line had formed. Depending on the timing, you can purchase it smoothly. The warabi mochi with plenty of yellow powder is fluffy and creamy, and you can eat as many as you want. The high-quality yellow powder is also delicious, so I plan to visit when I go to Nihonbashi.

I purchased this as a birthday cake for my mother. Unfortunately, they were sold out of yokan, but I was able to get kuzu mochi, mizu yokan, and beautiful wagashi that were perfect for a birthday. The ingredients were simple and the sweetness was just right, with the mochi melting in your mouth! The smoothness of the mizu yokan was amazing, my mother was also very impressed.

In the summer, I crave it, so I went out in the heat to try it. When I opened the door a little after the store opened, three people were wrapping freshly made treats. This place is famous for its Kusu Mochi, and from the name, you might think it's made with kudzu, but it's actually made with bracken flour. I always buy two, and one is for a close friend as a souvenir. When you chill it a little and open it, it's covered in so much kinako that you can't see the mochi underneath. The Kusu Mochi, cut into triangles, is soft and slightly sweet. It's one of my summer pleasures. Thank you for the meal.

I found this shop while searching for a delicious Japanese confectionery store near Tokyo Station. The shop has a history of about 300 years since it was founded during the time of Tokugawa Yoshimune. Based on the reviews, the popular items are Kyuju Mochi and Kiriyogan, which require advance reservation to purchase. I made a phone reservation for these items as well as some other seasonal sweets. Both Kyuju Mochi and Kiriyogan are best enjoyed after chilling in the refrigerator for about an hour. They have a similar texture to warabi mochi and go well with kinako (soybean flour). The kinako itself is not too sweet, providing a refreshing taste. The Kiriyogan and other seasonal sweets also have a delicate sweetness that pairs nicely with cold green tea. When I visited the shop, there were many customers purchasing, indicating its popularity. I recommend making a reservation in advance for popular items. (Please note that pick-up is until 5 pm) I paid using Rakuten Pay.
