Located on Yobata Street in Osu, in an old apartment building with several eateries, is a popular curry restaurant on the 3rd floor called Nami Hira Curry. I had been curious about this place for a while, but their irregular hours made it difficult to visit. I checked their Instagram for their operating days and finally went. The interior has counter and table seating. During lunchtime, there is usually a line, so I went around 2 pm, but the tables were already full. The friendly couple who runs the place welcomed me along with their adorable baby.
The curry menu consists of one type of curry. They ask if you want chicken nanban, the amount of rice, and about any allergies. I ordered the Nami Hira Curry with chicken nanban (1500 yen, cash only). They served the rice in a smaller portion. On top, they explained that there was something like "green chili pepper," and you can mix it as you like.
I'm not knowledgeable about curry, so I can't explain it well, but there are two types of curry roux, "chicken" and a mild one. Both are not very spicy, and even someone like me who isn't good with spicy food can enjoy it. The variety of side dishes is amazing, including lentils, simmered eggplant, sweet potatoes, boiled eggs, various nuts, and more. I also tried the chicken nanban, which was delicious. The chicken was tender, and the tartar sauce had a nice flavor.
Continuing with the side dishes, there was raita (I know this one!), simmered shishito peppers, cabbage, and more. When mixed together, it was delicious. If you prefer strong spicy curry, this might not be enough for you, but this curry reflects the kind personality of the owner. I enjoyed the curry that I had been curious about and left satisfied. ♪
