I walked around the town of Abashiri. After already eating sushi, I wanted to have some noodles as a light meal. I found this Katsuyama Honpo restaurant a bit far from my hotel. It seemed like a soba restaurant. I entered right away. There was only one other group of customers. I took my time looking at the menu. I found a set meal called "Kani Meshi Soba Set" that caught my eye! Of course, when in Okhotsk, it has to be crab! I ordered it immediately! My wife ordered the Tempura Soba. It was brought to us in about 10 minutes. The crab rice had plenty of crab and also plenty of salmon roe. It was truly luxurious. The soba was Tanuki style. The crab rice tasted as luxurious as it looked. The collaboration of crab and salmon roe was bound to be delicious! Personally, I would have preferred if they had used less soy sauce to bring out the flavor of the ingredients more. The cold soba was perfect for summer, easy to slurp up. The crispy tempura bits were delicious! I tried my wife's tempura, and it was also crispy and tasty! Crab tempura, how luxurious! Thank you for the meal.

Katsudon and chilled soba at a long-standing famous restaurant in Monbetsu that has been in business since the Meiji era. I love the katsudon here♡♡ The sweet and savory katsudon here is the real deal for a soba restaurant! It's great that it comes in a bowl too! The soba noodles are thin with a satisfying chewy texture. It's not about the aroma or flavor, just enjoy the soba that has been loved by the people of Monbetsu for over 100 years. I usually get the mini soba set, but today I'll have the regular size since it's my last visit. There's plenty of tempura flakes on top.

When I visited the city of Nemuro on a business trip, I stayed at a hotel called Ohotsk Palace in the city. A local recommended a nearby soba restaurant just a 3-minute walk from the hotel, so my colleague and I decided to try it out. We ordered the "Karami Soba" set, which was recommended along with the "Katsudon Set." While waiting for our meals, we wondered what "Karami Soba" would be like - would it be soba with lots of toppings mixed in, or would it be a spicy soba dish with daikon radish and ginger? We concluded that it might be the former. When the soba arrived, it turned out to be a spicy soba with daikon radish and ginger toppings, which was quite unusual. I ordered the large portion, and was surprised by the generous amount of food, but it was delicious and I managed to finish it all.

- Katsu soba for 1000 yen. Warm soba with a big piece of pork cutlet on top. (2021.05.21.)
- Other notes: Dining space available. Complimentary water provided. No wet towels. Restroom available. No charging outlets. Average customer service. Average cleanliness and interior setting. Shoes can be kept on. It was not crowded, no waiting to be seated or at the cashier. The complimentary water service was mediocre. (2021.05.21.)

- Entered a soba restaurant near the Mombetsu Bus Terminal. Seated at a 4-person table. It seems to be a long-standing soba restaurant established in 1921 (10th year of Taisho era), currently run by the third generation.

"Katsuyama Main Store" in Mombetsu, I went alone and decided to check out a few places for my food log activity. I ended up spending more time than I thought, and now I haven't had lunch yet. I'll go for a place that seems quick and easy. I'm at Katsuyama Main Store branch, and it's packed with cars. Is it okay? This is not good; if I can't get in quickly, it will be a problem. Hurriedly went inside the store, no customers were there. What's going on? Are these employees' cars? The parking situation seems strange. A staff member was standing there. I thought it would be cold soba, but it's freezing and maybe zarusoba would be good. I ordered the "tanuki soba" for 750 yen. In my opinion, tanuki soba for 750 yen is too expensive. I know many people don't say that. There are no table seats or counter seats, just a raised counter. As expected, my order came in 5 minutes. I was worried that the soba might be pre-boiled, but I heard them washing it properly. I don't like that the tenkasu is melting. Most of all, the water is terrible; I couldn't drink it after one sip. The lack of shichimi is tasteless. The TV is on, and the staff member's mask caught my attention. The soba is town soba. Since it's zarusoba, the taste of the soba doesn't matter. The lack of negi is not good. There's a lotus root attached, but you shouldn't put a lotus root on soba. However, without this tanuki soba, you can't eat the tenkasu. The soup lacks sweetness, which is good. I won't go into the details of the broth or umami; it all comes down to the price and the water. Today I'm in a good mood, so well, it's just soba, but overall, it's not bad."

Had lunch at a soba restaurant near the Himo Station (^。^) Ordered the recommended crab rice set!! Started with a slurp of the small soba to settle down haha. The main crab rice had just the right amount of rice, topped with plenty of salmon roe, and it was delicious (*⁰▿⁰*) Not too sweet, which was nice ⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎ Next, I'll try the branch? South branch. Let's go check it out♪( ´θ`)

At Katsuyama Main Store, I had the tempura and egg over soba noodles. It was very filling. The thin noodles in a Soba style matched well with the broth. It really warms you up on a cold day. The shrimp tempura was big and satisfying. It made me want to try their pork cutlet bowl and curry again after a long time.

Curry soba for September 28th is decided! I love the main store's curry soba even compared to the southern branch. Menu: Curry soba Price: 800 yen Noodles: Slightly thick and straight soup: Today it was thick and rich curry that was delicious. It goes well with the soba. Impression: The best curry soba. Today there was a lot of meat, making me crave rice. It gets crowded at lunchtime, but the turnover rate is high as they serve efficiently. Delicious!

Curry soba with a bit of inconsistency but highly recommended. On June 24, 2020, it costs 800 yen. There is some inconsistency with the firmness of the curry soba and the amount of meat. I visit quite frequently, and if the curry soba broth is watery, it's a miss, but if it's a bit thicker, it's a hit! Even when we ask for it to be firm, sometimes it still comes out watery. When ordering curry soba for two people, it comes out watery. However, if you order it after the lunch rush, it's extremely delicious with firm broth. Recommended, but there is some inconsistency.

At Katsuyama Main Store, they serve a Natto Soba with shrimp tempura on top. It's packed with ingredients and very filling. The soba noodles are thin and firm, surprisingly. The thin noodles allow the natto and egg to mix well, making it delicious. Their curry and katsudon are also tasty, but my favorites are the natto soba and spicy soba.

I went to Monbetsu for work, and since the JR line has been discontinued, I took a highway bus back. I had about an hour before the departure time at 2:00 PM, so I decided to have a late lunch at a restaurant called "Katsuyama" near the bus terminal. The restaurant had a large communal table, several 4-person tables, and a raised seating area with about 7-8 tables, making it quite spacious. I sat at a 4-person table and ordered the "Nabe Yakisoba" for 800 yen. The dish was served in just 12 minutes and was filled with ingredients like fried egg, rice cake, bamboo shoot, fish cake, green onion, pork, wheat gluten, and komatsuna greens in a flavorful broth. The noodles were a bit soft and broke easily, but overall, it was a satisfying meal. I noticed the "Crab Rice" on the menu and it caught my eye, so I definitely want to try it next time. Thank you for the meal.

I had some business to attend to in Monbetsu with my father, and now that it's done, it's time for lunch. We were thinking of getting something to eat around the Himo Station area, and one of the options was Ando-san, but since I had just written an article about it recently, we decided to go to Katsuyama, which was right next door. I think I may have been brought here by my parents when I was a child, but I don't remember much, so it feels like my first visit. The menu had a typical lineup for a soba restaurant, and I was in the mood for something hearty! I decided to go with the tempura bowl! While waiting, I read a little introduction about the restaurant on the menu - Katsuyama has been a long-established restaurant since the Taisho era, and the current owner is the third generation. The first owner was from the famous tempura restaurant Daikokuya in Asakusa, which raised my expectations even more. The tempura bowl arrived shortly, and I dug in right away! The bowl had shrimp, squid, eggplant, and surprisingly, snow crab as well! The tempura had a crispy texture and was generously coated in a rich and slightly spicy sauce, which accumulated at the bottom of the bowl. Overall, it was a hearty tempura bowl that I really enjoyed! It was delicious! Among all the tempura bowls I've had in the past, this one definitely ranks high. It was a pleasant surprise!

Katsudon with warm soba set with a sweet and savory flavor. Topped with onions and green onions. This is what a katsudon should be like! Today, I went to Oumu Town. Stopped in Mombetsu for lunch.

There is a local soba restaurant that also caters to tourists in Monbetsu. They offer dishes like crab rice bowl and soba set, but their main focus is on serving the local community. I ordered a hot pot udon on a slightly chilly summer day. The udon noodles were cooked perfectly and the simple ingredients were satisfying. The crab rice bowl and soba set comes with crab and salmon roe, with soba noodles being the more-sekka variety.
