Grape Daifuku: ★★★★☆ The grape daifuku at this restaurant is delicious and satisfying. The combination of sweet grape and chewy mochi is perfect. I highly recommend trying it.

I checked out a nearby Japanese sweets shop called "Kameya" after seeing reviews on Tabelog about their Mitarashi dango. I had a vague memory of the name "Kame" in this area. When I entered, I realized that it was not the same place as the reviews had mentioned. Later, I found out that Kameya was actually a bit further down the street. Near the entrance, they had "Kuzumochi," which looked flat. I thought this might be the Kanto version (made with wheat flour). Upon closer inspection, I saw that it was made with Yoshino kudzu, the Kansai version. In Osaka, it's rare to find the Kanto version of Kuzumochi unless it's at a local product exhibition. It was made by Midori Seika Co., Ltd. in Higashi Sumiyoshi Ward. The texture was soft, similar to the inside of a sweet red bean soup with agar. It had a refreshing taste. Since it was a filled type, it had a longer shelf life even though I ate it right away. They also had round kudzu manju, which doesn't have a long shelf life. They also had "Kunoka," a specialty of Asahi Ward, which was also available at other shops like Takaraido Honpo in Senri Omiya and Kokujukya in Taishibashi Imamiya. Each shop had its own version of the product. I wonder if the local government is involved in the production of these products. The Kunoka had a double filling of coarse red bean paste and white bean paste. The skin had almond powder, giving it a crispy texture. It tasted like a soft cookie with a hint of Western confectionery flavor. It was delicious. It had an oxygen absorber and was purchased on June 30 with a best before date of July 14. It had a good shelf life. Thank you for the meal.

I like grape daifuku more than strawberry daifuku. Aren't strawberries too sour? The grape one is just right. I saw grape daifuku being sold here and couldn't resist buying it. Where is this place? Is it on the way from Senbayashi Station to Shimizu Station on the subway? It's an old-fashioned Japanese sweets shop around there. The filling inside is white bean paste, not sure if it's Kyoho grapes, but there were big seedless ones in it. It wasn't too sour, just right. The mochi was soft and good.
