ITAYA
The first stop on the Oshamanbe tour (out of 4 stops) is Sobaya Aida, located in front of the station. This place is famous for its station bento box soba, but when it comes to Oshamanbe's station bento, the crab rice is much more famous. Due to the discontinuation of the limited express train sales, you can no longer enjoy the nostalgic Oshamanbe specialty mori soba unless you visit a store inside or near the station. Simply being nostalgic, there is nothing particularly noteworthy about it. Although the name of the store is Sobaya Aida, they also serve udon, rice bowls, and curry rice. In reality, the original plan was to visit Amataro Shokudo, a grandmother-run restaurant in front of the station, for the first stop in Oshamanbe. However, even though it was not a regular holiday, they were unexpectedly closed, so we ended up coming here as the second choice. There were 6 customers before us and 3 customers after us. The limited express train stops here, but there is nothing special about this town, especially during the pandemic, so the number of customers is not high despite being located next to the station and the free station parking lot. There are some cars driving on the national highway in front of the restaurant, but most people use the expressway. Moreover, when it comes to food in Oshamanbe, it's all about crab rice and then Hamachanpon Honten. It seems that only regular customers or odd people like me would come all the way here to eat soba. As soon as we sat down, they brought us water. The mother is at the register by the entrance, the daughter is in the customer seating area, and the father is in the kitchen, perhaps. There is even an English menu on the table. I originally planned to have kakesoba after having gyudon at Amataro Shokudo, but I changed my mind and combined the two dishes to have nikusoba. It arrived in about 5 minutes. The soup and the bowl were both piping hot. I tasted it with the spoon. It was delicious. The soba is soft and thin, probably 80% buckwheat flour and 20% wheat flour. There is plenty of pork and green onions in it. The soup remained hot even after finishing the meal, so I couldn't drink much of it. If they reduced the amount of pork by half, it would be more reasonable at 650 yen. Thank you for the meal. Next stop, the station's shop.
